This thread needs bingo! Free tile for today is FELINIDS

So, /40kg/, why have you not embraced the Primordial Truth?

Are Necrons or Orks good for starting players?

Or should I go Space Marines?

From the last thread
So I have 10 grey hunters and I've just ordered the start collecting box. Then I'll have a wolf lord, 3 two, and 20 grey hunters. What other dudes should I add to my army? I'm planning on playing 1000-1500 point games. Should I get sky laws or bloodclaws? Even more greyhunters? Are we terminators worth it? Should I get drop pods or metal boxes?

Space Marines and Admech are the best factions for starting players, as they're both very forgiving armies that allow you to learn the game at your own pace. Just start with tactical squads and work your way up the complication ladder this way.

>tfw no Felinid waifu.
Why live?

Answer these questions, user.

>Which army do I like the look of best?

>Which army do I like the lore of best?

>Which army do I think would be fun to play best?

Then you'll have your answer.

god that shit enraged me. why do gods that exist need to be worshipped?

Necrons are a very good choice for starting players. Pretty simple rules and easy to paint (although kind of boring if you just pick grey metal with dry brush finish).
They were my first army and I really enjoy them, plus they actually have quite a bit of viable units that's its hard to make a terrible list.

Just starting orks now and all I have to say is you have to come to turns with the fact a lot of your boys are gonna die.

Felinids!

so Veeky Forums, what are your thoughts on commission painted armies? Just curious because I can't paint for shit and I wanted a nice looking army for myself.

I've recently gotten a pair of armies (Tau, and a Tzeentch dedicated Chaos force) painted up by Den of Imagination and curious to know what you guys think of the practice.

Pic related: wip of my Tzeentch army. (ignoring the titan and tyranid)

Also my finished Tau army

see first.

Following that, consider Marines, because you have the largest choice of codices, from loyalist chapters to Chaos. Suppose you pick Necrons, drop $100 on them, then realize you don't like how they play. Now you're stuck with them, and there's not much to do about it. Marines don't have this problem, or at least, don't have it as much. The other thing, is that between all of the codex options you have, something will always be viable. You'll never be orks and get stuck with a shit dex for two an edition or two with no good options.

Still need help deciding, IG or Orks!

SOON, 1 week from now I'm going to start making my first Power-armour felinids.

IG hands down. You always have options, unlike orks.

I made a small change to my Centaur HWT. After noticing that the power armoured torso weighed down the front of the model, I decided to attach rubble to the base to raise her up. The two front legs aren't glued to the base, instead I have the rear legs attached to the base with steel rods.

Are there any good, free Epub readers?

IG, because they're really just fun to play and you have the option to create any an army based on any army from the early modern period to modern mechanised infantry.

really liking bluefire right now.

You're in the guard now, son. Get your trusty lasgun and start firing on those greenskins, and die for the Emperor.

Readium works for me, it works fine with GW epubs.

Now that the setting is being expanded, fleshed out, and pushed towards the Time of Ending, is there any fucking chance for the Chaos Eldar to finally step into the spotlight and tear everyone new holes to defecate from?

Still not BUSTY.

Raptors user, I am disappoint. Go and look at your vietnamese pornographic cartoons until you get it right.

plus when you meet another guard player you just get on with them; the amount of options we have is staggering (although not always optimal!) and everyone will try to tell you there little tricks.

Danke

But user, I have no intention of playing BUSTY. My magical fucking Monstergirls in power armour will be tacticool operators, and my adorable lamia snipers will have tactical webbing, combi-lasguns, and actually decent sights for their stalker bolters.

I will say though that I now absolutely fucking hate the Missile Pack, it ruins all of the proportions. Next time I build a character with a missile launcher, it'll be using the standard power pack, or one of the light-packs from Anvil industries.

hmm, my in between would use ork models as your imperial gaurd and make em Da Emperor's Greenest, or you could use ork models as conscripts which sounds like an interesting idea.

I better see at least some cleavage, it's just not right, user.

Will you use the Imperials Militia and Warp Cults army list for them?

I'm sorry, who?

Posted this in the last thread right before it died.
Jumping back into 40k after putting it down at the ass end of 6th, running slaaneshi daemons (at 1850 because thats apparently what they play around here)

C&C?

Yep, the plan is to go Imperial Cults and Militia with the Abhuman Helots + Survivors of the Dark Age to represent power armour monstergirls. I'm also going to represent the S5 30" Assault 1 Lasguns with some conversions with the anvil industries stuff.

I might make some cleavage with my recon squads, since they're the only ones not going to be sitting around in power armour. I guess I'll buy actual cheesecake models from some third parties, and cut them up to attach to Reaper Bones lamias and various other snek monsters.

Your army is going to get mashed before it's halfway across the table. Drop the Heralds, get another Soul Grinder for killing tanks, and as many Fiends and Seekers as you can to act as a first wave.

IGs initiative is too high too accurately represent Orks though :^)

> MFW all of my monstergril operators will be I2
> MFW I can still wipe orks out in melee with grenadier squads with augmented weapons

I've never seen fiends make their points, Just like my two exalted chariots, I'd be inclined to agree with you on adding in seekers if I had more points, The alt of this list has very few Psychic powers which frees up 325 points.

I also find that many players underestimate the amount of attacks that daemonettes can pour out, Short of the eldar player I used to play against I've never had many problems weathering the storm to get to combat.

Asking from last thread;
Are Deathwing Command Squads worth the points, and if so what sort of loadout should I look at?

Also, wihch Land Raider is best for dedicated Terminator transport?

Good. I expect results, user.

Why would they be I2? Aren't Grenadier squads like I4 because of Abhuman Helots? Or does that one reduce initiative by 1?

Yea, Abhuman Helots gives +1 Toughness, and -1 initiative. It also makes me desperate allies with armies of the imperium, and allies of convenience with chaos. Then again, Monstergirl operators is pretty damn close to heretical anyway.

>have a huge army of blood angels and grey knights

>current edition books roll around

>No one in locale plays

>GW stores are dead besides a few regulars who only paint and talk shit

>check online, Facebook, etc. Groups for Warhammer locally

>most of the posts are ads to sell off their armies

Being 'murica is suffering

Pic related.

You should come to Utah, there's dozens of game stores nearby and most of them have 40k groups. One of my nearby stores plays nearly every night, with tournies on Saturdays or the first Saturday of each month, not sure.

I'd play more but I work afternoon-overnight, so it's kinda difficult.

The issue is that those Daemonettes aren't going to get across the board alive. 7th edition is extremely biased towards shooting armies. You're going to take fire all the way, you'll take more fire from Overwatch, and because you have no assault grenades, you'll end up striking last. And being only St3, you're almost entirely reliant on getting those rends to deal damage.

Mixed-deity Daemon armies can work pretty well, but mono-Slaanesh is one of the weakest. You've got next to no ranged firepower, no way of shutting down overwatch or getting through cover, no cheap Horrors to hold objectives and summon in new units. Honestly I'd say you're looking at an uphill struggle no matter what you want to use.

Maybe it's just a West coast thing? I can't find anyone who plays 40k, or those that do field unpainted half assembled cheese lists and complain the entire time. Then sell their army.

Idk if I should shelf mine and wait for a new edition or what. The warma hordes guys seem to have tons of people abd get regular games in... might be forced to switch. Shit sucks.

Posted in the wrong thread: Basically, how do I kill centurion devastators if they're cover-hugging as Guard.

In the West Coast you probably have to be in major metropolitan areas to find a playerbase. If you're in the boonies or the middle of nowhere "where is that again?" kind of town even being on the West Coast won't help you.

Plasma. Isn't there an Order that gives a unit Ignores Cover, or at least forces the target to re-roll cover saves? Use that in conjunction with some Veterans kitted out with max Plasma Guns and rapid fire them to death.

Don't IG have built in Ignores Cover via orders? If not, just get ignores cover from a psyker. The only real issue with killing Centurions is if they're invisible.

Alternatively, hit them with a Demolisher cannon. They might get cover saves, but any they fail will be Instant Death.

I'm about 30-40 minutes from two cities so that helps, but I've never seen the player base coalesce or respond to any posts, emails, etc asking if they want to get a (casual) game on.

It's just frustrating. I don't dislike the game, I don't even hate GW, but the player base always acts evasive or sleepy weeb I try to approach playing their Gane in an earnest and honest manner.

Ignores Cover, S10, Wound Spam, really anything that gives Ignores Cover.

Chosen vs. Command Squad with a similar loadout

>Command Squad
>4+ FNP with Iron Hands Tactics
>4 Plasma Guns
>165 points
>can also take bikes instead of a rhino and grav guns for relentless grav and free Mark of Nurgle

>Chosen
>5 plasma guns
>can PAY for mark of tzeentch to get the equivalent of IH Tactics without an Apothecary to buff it
>can't take bikes, could take MoN for T5 but also have to pay for it
>disregard VotLW and dumb melee options
>BUT OH WAIT YOU NEED TO TAKE VETERANS OF THE LONG WAR IF YOU WANT TO USE THE BLACK LEGION SUPPLEMENT LMAO
>200 points with VotLW and MoN, 195 even with just Tzeentch

ell fucking mayo

>skeevy

How did that autocorrect into sleepy weeb

Sounds like airdropping a CCS with 4 plasma guns might work. Didn't think of that.

FnP (6+) is superior to a 6++.

What is the best way to sell off my models? Most are still in box or only assembled.

Oh, I see. Since you're using Survivors of a Dark Age you can use your Land Raiders for then as well, iirc.

Also, have qt Patriotic Harpy for some inspiration.

Ok so this is a stretch but I remember a couple of months ago there was a picture of the Necron Doom/Night Scythe on the GW website with an alternate paint scheme. I don't remember what it was for but the scheme was red, ivory and grey iirc. I can't for the life of me find any images of it but I know I am not making it up. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?
Pic very loosely related

>why do gods that exist need to be worshipped?

...I don't think you understand how the Chaos Gods operate user.

At the end of the day they're your dudes, aren't they? If you prefer to hire somebody to paint for you then go ahead.
Personally i've just started collecting and i've saved probably a couple hundred bucks in supplies by just getting nicely painted stuff for cheap on ebay.

Today I got into a debate about balance. The arguments were whetehr comp systems could fix the state of the meta. I argued no; that the books were too far imbalanced to make any comp system short of 'Storm Guardians are the only allowed unit'.

To test this, tomorrow at 4:00 eastern, there will be a 1000 point game. CAD only, no FW, no LoW (those were the restrictions by the comp system that prompted this debate)

On one hand, we have orks, played by not-me (I am an ork player, the other guy plays pretty much everything but orks). This is a list that is supposed to be as hard/strong as possible.

The other list will be necrons, and the first 970 points of it was made by pressing random buttons on battlescribe with my eyes closed until I got a legal list.

Should I do a battle report? should I post the lists?

>turn traitor
>surprised when everyone treats you like filth
You brought this on yourselves.

At the very least, I want to know what the lists are and how it turns out.

>no FW
Seriously, FW is more balanced than GW these days.

Oh, I don't even own any land raiders to begin with. My raptors normally rely on a combination of Infiltrate and Shrouded to get, or be wherever they need to be for the battle. The few rhinos I do use just end up acting as infiltrating walls.

Here, have more operator monstergirls.

>no FW
When will this meme end!

I've always used calibre and its worked fine

In theory, you could do a comp system to largely fix 40k, but it would have to go unit-by-unit, codex-by-codex.

>no cute felinid having the role of loader and mascotte in your leeman russ

Fuck off, shitposting retard. This dumbfuck Imperial role-playing shit has never been funny or clever or interesting.

that gray looks just like unpainted plastic

That was one of my arguments against that comp system. I haven't made an Ork list without a FW unit since... 2012? Zhadsnark, Kustom Stompas, and Gunwagons are the best units we have. Fuck, I haven't made a list without Zhadsnark or a Kustom Stompa in literally a year.

First up, the necrons.

Illuminator Szeras
10 Warriors
10 Immortals (Night Scythe)
Ghost Ark (in fast attack, curse of the button mashing)
The Nightbringer
Doomsday Ark.

And for Orks- (All squads have a PK/BP nob, with the exception of the Meganobz who for some reason have no bosspole. All Trukks are stock)

Biker Boss with Lucky Stikk, Klaw
10x boyz in a trukk
10x boyz in a trukk
12x Warbikers
9 lootas
3 Meganobz in a trukk
2 Traktor kannons.

...

Ohh, that khornite side of you is showing.

It's not healthy to get so upset but I guess I can't expect much rationality from traitors!

>Raptors
>Shrouded
I thought they just got Stealth (and Scout).

Oh, and the necrons also have 4 Neb-scope Gauss Tomb Blades.

Yeah, you're right. That's fair enough. I just got a bit antsy over it as someone at my LGS complained.

Why not just use codex: space marines then?

They have all the same units so you may as well.

Explicitly stated to be the same as the one from Raven Guard, and Raven Guard got an update. They gained Shrouded instead of stealth, but lost Scout. Which I suppose is a good thing for the current meta, because handing Scout like fucking candy to grav-cannon devastators for free would be broken as fuck. Also they get to add a +1 to night fighting rolls, which can be pretty amusing if I go up against an opponent that lacks searchlights, such as Orks, Necrons, and Eldar. Night Fighting heavily favors me in those cases.

I'd rather not take the more broken as fuck option anyway, so I'm on the mind that raptors use the newer version of the raven guard tactics, just because Scout-Grav Cannons is retarded. Scout+Infiltrate-Grav Cannons is even mroe so, given how easy it is to grab infiltrate on 4 squads with raptors.

Sure, do a battle report tomorrow. I'd be curious to see it.

It says as per the Raven Guard chapter tactics in Codex: Space Marines. Raven Guard were updated in Codex: Adeptes Astartes.

It's hilariously duplicitous to claim to be taking the less powerful option and then revealing that your HQ choice largely negates the loss of Scout and that the defensive upgrade is quite significant.

Well if they'd rather play against grey plastic, then that's on them.
As long as you're not entering them in any painting competitions, or at least disqualify yourself from painting aspects of tournaments (some give out painting awards), then I fail to see what the problem is.

I'm also interested in seeing this. Surely he'll deliver...

>entering commission work in painting competitions
Oh christ no, that's some top level scumbaggery. If you didn't paint it yourself, don't submit it for that. I don't do that.

>tfw people get mad at me for wanting Red Hunters to have characters
>then tell Raptors user that his special HQ choice should be used
FW, plz update all your other chapters, plz.

Good man.

I'm also absolutely certain that you'll get a response in support of it if you email forgeworld about the issue. Forgeworld's more about the RAI with their content anyway, and they actually respond when people ask questions when RAW issues come up.

Realistically though it comes down to a friendly houserule between me and my opponent. This should be a gentlemen's game anyway, where the players agree on how the shit will go down. You gotta ask questions, like, "Hey man, can I use my deredeo as my warlord, and roll a warlord trait for him?"

Or, "Hey, let's not use any superheavies today,"

Or more recently from orkbro, "Hey raptors user, bring your knight, I want my gorkanauts to have a duel with them now that they're superheavies. ^_^"

consider this, If you join the guard we won't have to purge you.

I mean to me that sounds like a great deal but I will let you think about it.

Also if you like the hobby your guardsmen are great allies for next army!

I'll try to do one tomorrow, assuming photos are an acceptable format.

Also, almost all of the necrons will be proxied in by Raven Guard Space Marines. The Nightbringer will be a Contemptor, etc.We do have a ghost ark and scythe on hand though.

>tfw no Exorcists chapter tactics
>b-but we have one shitty named character!

> Proxying necrons with Raven guard models
> MFW

Silas Alberec should be on par with Draigo. That would be cool. At least he's S10 which fits him beig Primarch sized.

What would you have me do? My Raven Guard Legion is at least black and semi-mechanical.

The game is going to be my orks vs. my RG, model wise. The alternative is Ogres proxied as necrons.

at least you have this cute commissar to keep you company

Something like this, it's at least 100% GW plastic.

Ok, I even got quints. Someone please help me, I don't want to have to start a thread for this stupid question

I hardly even use Lias Issodon these days anyway, most people balk at the ridiculous shit he brings. Like, "Oh, he's a bitch in melee that dies like a limp dick with no invuln saves of any kind", isn't enough of a weakness really to justify the sheer strategic force multiplier he puts on the board. He pretty much only comes out for tournaments, when I'm actually expected to be using the 3 grav-devastator squads with infiltrate list(Which again, tournament only because I hate waacfagging with a burning passion).

Nowadays I just arbitrarily pick a character out of my box from the list of various people I've made over the years. Like Captain Isaac, and Galahad. Lately it's been Captain Valentine and his enquerry, Techmarine Marius. Marius hangs around Valentine, and is basically the guy that makes sure valentine is still alive, while doing all of the captainly paperwork you would normally expect a captain to do.. Since valentine has 4 20 foot long cannons instead of arms.

...

I don't see a point in commissioned armies unless you're really desperate to jump right into the tabletop tourney scene.

It's not your baby.

I can't stress this enough either. An army that you send off to another painter will never truly be yours. It doesn't matter if all you can manage is 3-colour tabletop quality, you still should at some point experience having some models that "YOU" made, and "YOU" painted, and "YOU" field.

Valentine is my baby, and he's still my work in progress. I sit down every day and try some new techniques on him, and after every day I get to know a little more of all his nooks and crannies. Other people don't think he's all that valuable, because he's just a tabletop quality model right now, but to me he's my centerpiece!

Hey, did The Beast series ever finish?
