Could someone explain what exactly Broquest is and if it's still active/relevant or whatever? Did Veeky Forums come up with it or are we just fans?
I've found wikis, CYOAs, fanart, and more but nothing really says exactly what it is. Then I see stuff about it being a videogame in development but can't find any news. What's up?
The tl;dr is that there was CYOA threads where people picked from like, 5 or 6 stereotype classes to "adventure" with, and there used to be stats to fuel discussion. It's basically all worthless and for the sake of discussion, nobody actually ran anything to my knowledge.
And then it took off and people started adding more and more cliche characters and building fanfiction and eventually people tried building an RPG but it failed and the dev team only made a cheap Castlevania arcade game of some sort.
Jayden Collins
Doubt it's active, last I heard the artist or something went to work on a scam porn game
Eli Lee
So it was basically just an early, uber-popular CYOA akin to Towergirls?
Also, was /v/ in on it as well? I've found a few threads of theirs archived talking about it.
Owen Thompson
>So it was basically just an early, uber-popular CYOA akin to Towergirls? It slowly transitioned from early CYOA with above average art, to extremely elaborate and over designed CYOA (with above average art), to the Veeky Forums version of Zyborne Clock.
It actually predates Towergirls by quite a while (as do several CYOAs). It's not a coincidence that the "PC" for Towergirls looks exactly like the Nameless Rank and File Soldier.

Just so you know, about half of the characters in that image were added after the project officially died. The artist was asked to draw them for side characters, villains, mentors and so on, but after it went bust he released the lot of them. A while later someone took the pieces he liked and put them in as PCs, writing his own backstory. That explains any consistency or redundancy issues in the tone or nature of the characters.

Wyatt Watson
Oh and the Green knobhead goes in support characters. Him and pink chick were parody heroes.
Nicholas Powell
>Did Veeky Forums come up with it or are we just fans? >too new to know about Broquest >we Anyway, it was just a somewhat funny joke that was taken too far by people who had no business making games. Started out as a bunch of memes, became more memes, then it died. Said people are still memeing, from what I hear, but it's bound to be the same horrific shit even if they do manage to squeeze a game or something out of it this time.
John Taylor
Ok, that all makes sense. Do we know who the artist was? Or did they just post anonymously on Veeky Forums?
Charles White
His name is Shwig, and he's pretty well-known. Just google him, he has loads of art. Even I commissioned him once.
Hudson Sanders
Also you can google this stuff, but since I have it right in front of me, here's a pretty much canonical chart of the planned relationships throughout the cast of Broquest. Probably one of the more cool things produced in its name.
Jaxson Carter
Doesn't he work on that Breeding Season game now under a different name?
Gavin Bennett
Already stated in the thread. It's not so much a different name as a contraction - S-Purple. Just look it up if you care, it's not very good.
his full alias was originally shwiggityshwonshway and he's been shortening it in a variety of ways ever since
William King
Basically, it's a show of how important a good artist is to a project.
Once Shwigg left and it was only idea guys, it just fell apart.
Christopher Anderson
We were planning on making it into a game but then /v/ came in with their salty greasy hands and fuck up everything
Jeremiah Bell
The PC of towergirls look more like a dark soul knight.
Cameron Campbell
Even with artist, they didn't have anybody else to turn it into anything playable.
Thomas Perez
Why is rank-and-file soldier so based Veeky Forums?
Isaiah Powell
Because he's the embodiment of the everyman, the unsung soldier, who has just as must potential to achieve great things as any super fantasy hero.
Oliver Powell
>Even I Nigguh who the hell are you?
Benjamin Lopez
No-one famous over here. I'm just saying that random anons who haven't even been here long (5-6 yearsish) have spoken to Shwig and worked with him. He's a known quantity, nothing mysterious.
Charles Morris
Some of these characters are really cool and others are varying degrees of cringey, sonic-tier oc fanfic and 'le randumb xddd'.
Someone make a version with all shitty characters left out?
Evan Anderson
He didn't left, in is DA where he posted the art said that the project was cancelled by the team
Jason Hall
Elaborate "shitty"
Levi Murphy
>Doubt it's active It died on 2012, even the "revival project" died two years ago.
Jackson Richardson
You could try actually reading the thread.
I assume a mixture of the following, all of which are true for the NPCs unofficially added to the roster: - Clearly not balanced for a party member, way too OP, unlikeable/unheroic, or unengaging from a plot perspective - Obvious garish recolourings by less talented artists - Massive redundancy with existing cast, including characters that are clearly meant to be evil mirrors/rivals of specific good guys
I could point out specific examples if you need it.
Jason Hernandez
It started off as that, then some guys from /v/ tried making a game out of it, which died a quiet but painful death because their team was 90% idea guys who chased off everyone with actual talent.
Zachary Martin
All the sperging over the catgirl redesigns was hilarious.
Thomas Hall
>Someone make a version with all shitty characters left out? Why not do it yourself?
Surely even you can manage a bit of cutting and pasting?
Juan Young
Here you go.
Carson Jackson
...
Jason Reed
Theres a thread on v right now about a revival project for this game that just died.
OP claims he is gonna release the 75 music tracks he made for it, so something was still happening apparently.
Wyatt Hall
Anyone have the art where the evil looking owl gave game exposition? Or at least links to where I can find all the broquest art?
Anthony Collins
You can probably find a lot of BroQuest art archived.
Elijah Young
I saved quite a bit of the funnier stuff.
Elijah Hernandez
...But mostly NRFS.
Andrew Fisher
Yep.
Jacob Howard
Shwig.
He has a nice artstyle, and his make-a-monster threads are pretty fun when he does them, but according to one of the programmers for the Broquest project he's actually kind of a cock who can't manage his workload worth a damn.
Adrian Peterson
>but according to one of the programmers for the Broquest project he's actually kind of a cock who can't manage his workload worth a damn. Says the programmer for a group that didn't get past a concept demo
Luis Hernandez
Cool. Would it be on suptg? Or elsewhere?
Ian Fisher
The third troll is probably my favorite out of them all.
