But snarky comments aside, it still depends on what genre you want to watch/play. But let's start with fantasy classics
Ladyhawke
Willow
Legend
Both Conans
Red Sonia, the one with Brigitte Nielsen
Excalibur
The Beastmaster
The Sword and the Sorcerer
Fire and Ice
The Company of Wolves
Big Trouble in Little China
Labyrinth
Erik the Viking

Should give you a good start

Thank you. Seen a couple of those, think I'll be watching one of the others tonight.

Forgot about the Highlander and RoboCop, damn. And Jones. And Mad Max original trilogy

And picking something more "recent":
Fantaghirò (if you have a week or so to spare)
Last Action Hero
The City of Lost Children
Jumanji (no, really)
Dragonheart
Mononoke Hime (the only thing from Miyazaki you will ever need)
Tank Girl (no, really)
Snow White: A Tale of Terror
Blade
The 13th Warrior
The Mummy
Dark City
First Matrix
13th Floor
Brotherhood of the Wolf
Belphegor, Phantom of the Louvre (if you can, just go watch the original TV show)
The Road to El Dorado
Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas
All parts of Ginger Snaps
First Tomb Raider film
LOTR, obviously
Hidalgo
Dawn of the dead, remake
Reign of Fire
The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen
Night Watch
MirrorMask
Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow
Underworld, at least the first one, if you like it - all of them
Beowulf
The Fall
The Cell, too
Hot Fuzz
Pathfinder and 10.000 BC are both just HORRIBLE, but endure them
Paranorman
Chronicle

help yourself to a slightly less damaged version of that pic

And since I've focused on 80s fantasy, now to fill the gaps:
Blade Runner (just not the American cut)
Brazil
Cat People
The Thing
Escape from NY
Videodrome
The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension
Obi-oba: End of Civilisation (Polish film, as if made for Paranoia players)
Predator (and Predators, too)
The Running Man
Alien 1-3
Terminator 1-2
Cocoon (no, really)
Silverado
Open Range
Radioactive Dreams
Starship Troopers (first one)
Akira (mostly to start notice how many things are ripping it off)
Ghost in the Shell
The Abyss
Cyborg with Van Damme
Screamers

You forgot Sword of the Stranger.

>the only thing from Miyazaki you will ever need

Now wait just a minute. Cagliostro, Conan, Nausicaa, and Laputa are all primo game fodder.

>a slightly less damaged version
But that's still the worst K-On.

Whoah...
This guy got you covered

Throwing in:
Stalker
Moon
Dreamcatcher
Troll Hunter
Fright Night remake
Sahara - not the adventure one, but war film
Waterworld
Postman
Galaxy Quest
The Man Who Would Be King for ultimate all-rogue party
Atlantis the Lost Empire
Once upon a time in China 2
Hardboiled
Pitch Black
The VVitch

The fact that people still watch movies just blows my mind. My DW campaigns have FAR better stories than any movie produced in the last thirty years. And I have watched most of them up until I got sick of movies because i realized how plebian and inferior they are. A person who resorts to watching movies is a person with zero imagination. My dungeon world group creates amazing stories every week. Our screen is our imagination, our script is our words, from which are woven dialogues that even the great masters of film would be lucky to equal with their years of "training" in the film "arts". Why would you watch some other idiot's creation when you could have one tailor made to your own tastes that isn't pretentious as hell, and usually full of self-insert characters that you cannot identify with. Whereas you could play a roleplaying game for less money and have a better story overall.

I'm sorry but roleplaying games like Dungeon World are objectively superior to movies in all possible ways as a form of entertainment. This thread is waste of time.

(you)

Shit, true. My bad. Literally one of better stand-alone animes of past decade

I also forgot about:
Stargate
Total Recall
Universal Soldier
Fortress
Timecop
Johnny Mnemonic - shit film, but the setting!
Cube
Event Horizon (WH40k prequel)
First Men in Black
Six-String Samurai
Soldier
eXistenZ
Virus (the one with Curtis and Sutherland)

Same as me, but I also include videogames, anime/manga, comics/cartoons and books.

My campaign is literally the best thing ever and no "writer" of that shit can even come close.

And I want to send a particulary nice fuck you to "WRPG" (MASSIVE LOL) writers such as Chris Avellone since we're at it

>Fantaghirò (if you have a week or so to spare)

You guys are funny. Even the weeaboo.

>Doesn't like WRPGs
>Must like JRPGs

Lmao

Hero
House of Flying Daggers
Zatoichi series or at least the modern one
Kung Fu Hustle

The 40-Year-Old Virgin

Ah, I get it.

>Fire and Ice
The movie is really simple and mediocre but HOLY SHIT IS THIS GUY COOL

It's well past being a redeeming factor, this guy is so fucking cool that it's a detriment to the movie. He's cooler than everyone else around him and just spoils it for them. He's cooler than the story and in a way goes so far as to cuck the plot itself.

Some things I never see suggested:

The Duelist
John Carter
Gangs of New York (I don't even fucking like this movie it's just weirdly Veeky Forums)
Kung Fu Panda - any
Ong Bak 2
Valhalla Rising

Seconding: Berserk, Fire and Ice, Tolkienshit, Mononoke Hime, Princess Bride, Seven Samurai, Sword of the Stranger, Vin Diesel's various RP flicks.

>Fire and Ice
The porno? Because I watched that porno, and I don't remember it being even slightly Veeky Forums.

lmgtfy.com/?q=fire and ice film

>The Duelist
You mean the one with Keitel?

>Valhalla Rising
buuuuullshit!
That is the most boring film I have EVER watched. NOTHING happens for an hour and then they fuck around in a forest for 10 minutes, high on shrooms and then they all get shot by arrows.
That's it. That is the entire movie.
Save yourself the boredom and avoid this wet blanket of a movie.

I'm surprised that Strange Days isn't on the list. Gunhed is a shit movie but there's some decent mecha/cyberpunk shots in it.

Those are all indeed good movies, but I doubt anyone would really argue against Mononoke being Miyazaki's greatest work.

Laputa would be my recommendation for a campaign setting though. Sky pirates, steam punk, magic, evil scientists, and all that shit going on at once really made it a more interesting world.

Nausicaa was one of the weaker (but still enjoyable) entries in Miyazaki's film collection. Supposedly it was tied into Mononoke somehow though.

>John Carter

Man, the books were so much better than that movie, but the movie was not bad at all. Shame it flopped hard as fuck, but then again it wasn't advertised as anything worth a damn either.

I seriously doubt they will make the sequel novels, especially given the hardcore slaver martians being all black and super racist.

The biggest fuck up they made though was with the green martians who were all muscled up four armed hulks with a major warrior mentality in the books, they were basically made stick figure shit heads in the movie.

His dog being kind of cute was also nonsense. In the book it was god damned monstrous and looked like something Cthulhu might have spat out, but it did still act like a super loyal and friendly dog which made it even more bad ass.

Pirates of the Caribbean and Dredd, of course.

>I can't appreciate art!

>Blade Runner (just not the American cut)
But the directors cut had such an awful ending even Harrison thought it was retarded. American cut knew it was retarded so they removed it.

>Dredd
That movie helped me describe bullet impact to my players immensely.

Maybe he means the cut with Harrison's hungover VO? Otherwise I agree.

>Valhalla Rising
>Art
Mate, that was just brutal flick for the sake of brutality. It's like calling Death Wish 5 art.

By American cut I mean the one where it's made crystal and absolutely clear Decker is a human being and they live happily ever after.

>LOTR

Add this one to the list.

I've only seen one Monty Python movie so far. You dissapoint me.

And I just disappointed myself twice.

Of course I meant to write "You make me sad"

My pleb detector in pinging. Hard.

Is everyone just ignoring that this dude said kung fu panda?
Like... why?

Shut your whore mouth about Kung Fu Panda!!!!!!!!!!!!!1! REEEEEE!!

Every movie with a group of heroes can be tg, depending on your kind of game.
Even Kung Fu Pandaa

mah negro

don't forget Stardust

What defines a Veeky Forums movie, anyway?

BETWEEN THE TIME WHEN THE OCEANS DRANK ATLANTIS AND THE COMING OF THE SONS OF ARYAS, THERE WAS AN AGE UNDREAMED OF.

What we do in the Shadows.
Slice of life in the World of Darkness

Really, most vampire movies are pretty Veeky Forums. Though WWDITS is entirely made of clichés and captures the general silliness of a coterie so it's the Veeky Forums-est of them all.

No one mentioned Cabin in the Woods yet?
Really?

That's like Call of Cthulhu 101 watching.

Because they're actually not that bad.

Take it from me - I thought it was going to be fucking garbage, but as I watched it play in a barber shop TV I realized it actually wasn't bad at all. Anyone who says it is is just someone who isn't intelligent enough to critique a movie beyond its superficial elements. The movie is good.
