[…]still 170ft high and falling, Sir.

[Vice-Commander]
What about the Evas? Which one are combat-ready?

[Head, Finance Division]
Both Evangelion Unit 03 and 08 are at full health. However, we did not have enough budget to repair their auxiliary armor plating upgrade.

[Vice-Commander]
And Eva Unit 01? I’ve been reading reports that it will be operational ‘’soon’’ for weeks now.

[Head, Science Division]
Now, now. Evangelion Units are complex, yet delicate tools. It takes time and expertise to fully repair one. We’ve been able to completely regrow the upper torso, head and arms but we’ve encountered some… irregularities with the synchronization systems. The Sixth Child can successfully synch with it, but during the tests we’ve observed some random, drastic desynchronization spikes.

It is operational, in a way, but let me warn you, Vice-commander. This unit will be unreliable if you do launch it. I'd recommend sortieing the Sixth Child in Unit 08 and the First Child in Unit 03.

[Vice-commander]
R&D?

[Head, Research & Developement Division]
My teams have been working since the attack on the Reverse-engineered A.T. Bombs, as you asked.

Since they were first designed to be launched from bomb-bays we had to modify them. As of now, 7 of them are able to be launched from our city’s Static Weapon Systems. I know it’s not much- but we expect to have 3 more before the end of the day.

[Head, Finance Division]
The Static Weapon System had to be modified too. It’ll show on our next funding allocation.

Only two of them can fire A.T. Ordinance – The ones in Industrial 02 and Residential 05.

The good news is that, contrary to what I thought, they won’t cost more money to operate- they still require 1 Funding Unit, as always.

*SLAMS FIST ON THE DESK*
That's better than what I was expecting. Assume battle positions, we're taking that thing down!

[The Head of Science stands up]
There is something else, Major. We finally were able to reach what was left of our lunar surveillance grid.

There is… something stationed at the north shore of the Mare Imbrium, on the Moon. We do not know it’s nature, or it’s size, but we’re certain that the 9th Angel originated from there, along with the 6th. The MAGI and I came to the same conclusion : there is a strong possibility that the 6th and the 9th are ‘’siblings’’.

The 9th Angel already demonstrated that it possesses a different version of the same anti-electron attack capability. It presents itself in the form of a focused, precise beam instead of the large projectiles of the 6th.

The 6th Angel had the power to create and sustain a violent storm, it also had control over half a dozen of proxies. We must assume that this Angel has similar capabilities.

How much time do we have before the next attack?

All right.

Major, we have to take a decision now. How are we going to counter attack? Here's the plans we talked about yesterday:

>Orbital Interception: Overload the Angel's point defence system with missiles, clearing the way for one Evangelion Unit to reach it. This is a High-risk option, since the Evangelion cannot stay operational more than 5-minutes on internal power.

>Wait it out: The Angel is currently in low-orbit but falling. At this rate it will be unable to keep its altitude and will try to reach the center of Montréal-3. We'll fight it then.

[Head, Science Division]
Tomorrow morning, around 3:00am. That's if the Angel is able to regain it's orbit. Right now it's a 170ft, if it goes below 140ft he won't be able to come up.

Waiting it out seems like the best possible idea right now. We are not fully aware of everything the angel is capable of, and risking it all on a gamble might completely break us. We cannot lose an evangelion unit.

If we wait it out, we can summon all of our forces to fight the enemy, and we will have time to prepare. If it regain orbit, then we can discuss alternatives. For now we wait.

I'm for Orbital Interception. Catch it off guard. Might not have the elements to work with to create full storms.

Damn, it feels like this started weeks ago, not yesterday.

For the record. I don't like this, if we commit to Orbital Inception the thing will keep going down. If we go with waiting it out it will gain altitude. Murphy's law.

That said, I'm for Orbital Inception. It's a high risk option, sure. But when dealing with Angles no options are safe.

For future reference, is there a possibility this anomaly will spew forth another Angel in the future?

There's also the matter of the ‘’Solomon’’ Experimental Positron Canno, I had my people work on it all night. They reported that while there was abnormally high A.T. Activity inside the Core, the containement apparatus we built around it will be able to withstand another shot.

Now, let me be clear on this : It must be destroyed as soon as it is fired. While the actual shot will be ‘’safe’’, the resulting cascading A.T. reaction inside the Core will be catastrophic if left unchecked.

I recommend that you allow us to modify the containement cage so that’ll detonate after reaching a certain energy threshold.

Wait it out. I'd rather have ground support when we roll three 1s in a row to cause Third Impact.

We can use that in case the angel regains orbit, or as a possible ace up our sleeve. Good work, doctor.

One more question on that note - would it be possible to replicate the weapon assuming we have another "spare" Core?

But either way, yes, please set the model to self-destruct when it becomes dangerous.

I'm kind of leaning towards the plan of giving the gun to Unit 01 with Anna at the wheel. As a backup. Neither of them are in particularly good shape but all she would need to do is shoot once, drop the gun and stay clear. Besides, she used the gun the most, she deserves to take the last shot there is to it. And I'm not saying this for a sentimental value, but because she's a good shot.

As for the Sixth Child, last time seemed very frustrated and I would say even rebellious. I can understand why, but I hope the attitude somewhat improved since.

I'm for Orbital Inception.

>For future reference, is there a possibility this anomaly will spew forth another Angel in the future?

There's a strong possibility that it can. But let's deal with the more pressing matters before planning a Moon mission.

>Good work, doctor.

I'm only doing my job, Major. Let's hope we'll be able to say the same about you after today.

>Would it be possible to replicate the weapon assuming we have another "spare" Core?

Absolutely. However, I have better plans for an intact Core if we manage to get our hands on one.

All right, Major. I hope you know what you're doing.

I'll begin the preparations. I take it that you want to send Unit 08 with the First Child?

It's here!

>We are doing the interception with the EVA
Bad idea, but alright. My fault for being late.

Too bad about the cannon.
Yes, the new unit with Florence.

Hopefully this will pay off, but we need to be ready to abort quickly.

I'm content that if I were to mess up really bad, there would be nobody left to criticize.

And I would love to hear more about these better plans after the mission. If you can put them on layman's terms, that is.

Yes, Florence will be the one to take this leap of faith for us. Again.

>there would be nobody left to criticize.
We can't just assume all failures will result in an impact, EVAs have been dieing more than getting out of control.

[Vice-Commander]
This is it people. We all have our jobs, the interception will begin in 3 hours.

[Everyone then leaves the room. You have a bit of time before the start of the operation, what do you want to do?]

We need to find and make sure Anna and Eileen are on base and not injured from the blasts.

check on riot-shield chan

[You get a hold on a Section-2 agent]

Oh, Major. What can I do-

Yeah sure, let me check up with Central if they have the girls' location.

[He then calls someone with his earpiece. It doesn't take long for you to have an answer.]

Yes, Major. The three of them are currently being prep'd. They're near the Evangelion cages if you want to go talk to them. The First Child is there too.

[You're pretty sure you left Riot Shield-chan at your appartment. You make a quick call home but she doesn't respond.]

Yeah, I'll go to them. Thanks for your work.

>she didn't pick up
She's just playing hard to get

[The Geofront is still on high alert, the place is bursting with staff running everywhere. Still, you reach the Evangelion cage somewhat easily where you spot one of the Eileens sitting on a bench near the pilot changing rooms.]

Ah, Major.

Your briefing is over? I heard you decided to put Florence in space. That's crazy, I hope she'll be okay.

Oh, me? Yeah, I couldn't synch with Eva 03, again. They're doing the synchronization procedure with Marie now, but I doubt she'll be able to. Eva 03 doesn't work with us for some reason.

I mentioned to the new head of science that the EVA might accept both of you piloting at once. Just a strange idea I had, but worth trying. I don't think either of you will be ready to help with this next Angel though.

I hope you get that scratch looked at, it would be too bad if it turned into a scar.

We don't get to talk very often, and who knows what might happen after today. Anything you want to get off your chest? I'm right here if you need someone to listen.

...both of us? In the Eva? I don't know if I like this.

Synchronizing with an Eva is already weird. It's like you're trying to speak with someone talking really really fast and constantly. I don't get how being two in there could help with this.

>I hope you get that scratch looked at, it would be too bad if it turned into a scar.

W-what scratch? [She touches her forehead and see the bit of blood on her fingertip. She becomes really pale.]

Oh. y-yeah I should...

...I'm happy that you understand that I'm the real one, Major. It really helps with the whole situation. I feel it's much easier to go through it all with your support, at least.

>I'm happy that you understand that I'm the real one, Major
Oh boy

Time for an awkward laugh followed by awkward silence.

Better get back to work, maybe we'll chat later Eileen.

Maybe the other Eileen is about, would be interesting to see what she has to say.

>Maybe the other Eileen is about, would be interesting to see what she has to say.

Or what's left of her. I hope we can find any pieces left.

[After a awkward silence followed by a short goodbye, you head to the Eva 03 cage, where the other Eileen is located. You enter the monitoring room and find the Head of Science overlooking the synchronization process.]

[Head, Science Division]
Now, now. no need to cry sweetheart. It only makes the synchronization process more arduous.

[Eileen, over comms]
>But we've been trying this again and again! [She seems exasperated] It didn't work the hundred times we tried it before, why would it do now?

I know, this is hard, but there's a lot on the line here, Helene. Let's try one more time.

>...

[He turns towards you]
Oh, Major. What brings you here?

How's she doing, doc? Doesn't seem like you're making progress.

What the bloody fuck is happening to the money that's supposed to go into paying psychiatrists?

Tell me.

Is it embezzlement again?

So do we tell these guys that Eileen is going kind of crazy?

Also our idea to see if she and Marie are drift compatible?

You're right, Major- we're not making any.

This is getting frustrating. I hope R&D stupid idea of a double Entryplug will get results. So far the standard synchronization procedures gives us nothing. Honestly I would invest my time elsewhere but the Vice-Commander ordered me to try, even when I told him that it wouldn't work.

Why are you asking me? You're the one who set-up that superfluous hugbox special team.

You'd be better off asking your Finance friend at one of your little dinner parties if you want more details about their paychecks. It's out of my hands.

Thanks pal. Glad to know you have my back. What about that Carl kid, is he here too?

Seems like the interest is very low tonight. I'd prefer if we end it here.

So I've been thinking about it for a while now, and I think that now's the time to do it- I'll be putting NBS on indefinite hiatus. I'm sorry guys. I've been feeling burned out about the whole thing and now a lot of IRL stuff is catching up.

It started off as some funny little one-shot thing and we greatly expended it together into a legit quest. Thank you for playing all these months, you guys were great.

>hiatus

OH FUCK NO

What will I do for the rest of the summer?

.. so, no Iconic Field quest with surfboarding puppeteering mecha action set to shoegaze music?

I hope you get everything sorted out dude.
Until then I guess I'll be waiting for the next NBS to show up in the catalogue.

Good luck and thanks for the fun

When, or rather if, you return we will eagerly await you. Remember to send an alert through twitter.

We'll miss you

Dude, the night is young and it's a weekend. Too early to throw in the towel tonight.

If you're feeling burnt out then taking a break is probably better than pushing yourself too hard, but I feel like basing your decision on this thread's low participation might not be accurate since it seems pretty outside the norm.

I'm not basing my decision on this thread, I've been thinking a long time about taking a break. This just seems like the right time to do it, that's all.

And I wanted to try to finish this battle before my internet gets cut off tomorrow. Maybe it wasn't such a great idea running outside of our usual day.

With your resources, maps and drawfagging, would you consider a Super Robot Wars Quest?

Sad to see it end, but that's the nature of the hobby. Thanks for sticking with it for so long, it was a great experience.

Indefinite doesn't mean infinite r-right guys?

Rolled 1 (1d10)

>hiatus
Fug. I just got home and the thread's already done and then I see this. Oh well, good luck all the IRL stuff, I missed today's thread because of IRL as well.

To be honest I wouldn't even be upset if you give us a railroaded finale just to be done with it at this point. It would be a lot nicer than leaving it on a cliffhanger forever.

>my internet gets cut off tomorrow
Ouch. Again, good luck getting your shit sorted, I hope everything goes well.

One last d10 roll for David.

Of course the last roll had to be a fucking 1.
