What would be a good system for a fantasy game with the following premise:
>World in Ruins
>Only one bastion of civilization left
>Mythic heroes must journey out into the demon-haunted world in search of surviving normal people
>PC's are responsible for rescuing normal people and escorting them back to the sanctuary where they will be safe

I just want to run a game where human life is the most precious treasure.

Don't recommend Pathfinder or GURPS.

Strike!

Ryuutama'd work.

OK, I'll bite.

Why?

He's just being a dick since you said no Pathfinder or GURPS from the outset.

Stop shilling Strike!

Why does Veeky Forums keep shilling Strike!?

I keep meaning to play this, but that's one I just really want to play straight out of the box as is.

I don't think "Veeky Forums" does. I think it's one dude who just watches out for this kind of thread to do it in. Possibly a paid viral marketer, but more likely just a fan of the system who is woefully inarticulate and thus unable to do a better job than this.

Isn't that one of those systems that was made collaboratively right here on Veeky Forums?

That doesn't sound too enticing.

Off the top of my head, an OSR or maybe Torchbearer would work if Burning Wheel's your speed.
I have a pet project currently named "Nasty, Brutish, and Short", but I want to get it hammered out and published before I hand it over to Veeky Forums so that you guys can tell me why it sucks by pointing to a particular page and complaining about the price.

It has a website with decent graphics, and isn't free, so I'm pretty sure it's not.

>I want to get it published before finding out how to improve it
You are either a totally irrational individual, or a money grubbing jew with no actual business sense.

Probably no business sense. I'd get it checked, obviously (that's what the hammering out bit is for), but not by you guys, so I know that it at least works for me and mine before I put it out on the market.
Worst case scenario is I make a hack game five people enjoy and nobody buys.

Yeah but that worst case scenario is also pretty close to the best case scenario that you're currently aiming for

You've probably guessed by now that I'm not a very ambitious person. Besides, if I know Veeky Forums one person will buy it for 3.99 or whatever and circulate the tapes until everyone has it, so it's not like I'm losing a massive amount of money on a hobby project.

>explore a danger-filled wilderness
>civilization is on its last legs in the face of supernatural terrors
>recover treasure and survivors for return to civilization
>set up larger parties and eventually armies for more ambitious forays into the hostile wilderness
>once sufficiently-powerful, establish and protect new bastions of civilization to help reclaim the world
The system I'm currently running, ACKS. It's an OSR with emphasis on NPC followers (including armies) and domain-level play. It would allow you to monitor the health of the bastion in detail, down to the number of families present, income available for things like soldiers and defenses, and the settlement's overall morale. You could directly measure the impact of things like the number of people returned to civilization, versus natural population trends and the number of able-bodied soldiers lost to the demons. It also has mechanics for reclaiming wastelands and building strongholds to expand civilization.

If players are not supposed to get help from NPCs or attempt to rebuild civilization, then I'd consider 5e too.

Not OP, but I'm considering doing a domain-level game, so that's useful. Kudos.

Strike!

Why don't you act this way to other games?

That's stupid. Play more Strike! and you'll be less stupid.

Definitely supporting the "woefully inarticulate" theory there.

Stop shilling Strike!

Why does Veeky Forums keep shilling Strike!?

Polaris has the same theme so try that.

Okay, we get it. It's you and you're jerking everyone else in the thread (at least me) around by replying to yourself. Very clever.

>clearly there could never be more than one person who thinks I'm a tool!

>You're telling the guy that seems to be self-copypasta-ing to stop
>So you must be the shill
...Are you serious?
Whatever, just no more copypasta, fucking please.

Interesting. Can you tell me more about this?

I'll be the stupid odd one out
