That's a pretty good plan. This drifting thing would be a total DM cop-out.

it's a reference to a famous problem in ethical philosophy, the Trolley Problem. if you do nothing, five people get run over; if you pull the switch, only one person gets run over, but you are more "involved" in the murder because you took an action.

the obvious logical choice seems to be to pull the switch, but a surprisingly large number of people would rather do nothing and stay "uninvolved", which has interesting consequences.
