Fall of Hyrule Herobuilder: Episode 1 Crusade - Part 3

The sounds of battle cries and the clash of weapons are heard from within a great cloud of dust that obscures the vision of those without and within the pocket of Hylian men trapped across the river Zora.

Dawn comes soon, as the sky turns blue again. It is the second day here, and thanks to the hardwork of Hylian engineers working around the clock the blown up bridge over the River Zora is over halfway finished.

Soon the great Crusading army will be able to pour over the river. But will they find any of their comrades left as the dust clears?

Dorbunga is a whirlind of death. One could compare him to Tombstone of Robot Wars or perhaps a blender. Spinning and slicing his way through foes, and as the smoke clears and the Gerudo retreat he finally slows down, a great red ball covered in blood and gore, his sword equally stained if chipped and bent due to bombs and other swords.

At last, the Gerudo are retreating! As the smoke clears and the sun rises, they've had enough for one day.

Fear many things in this world, but today, fear the GORON!

1. The Prince is evidently very busy doing “things” of an undisclosed nature. However, one of his top ranking commanders, a Fire Wizzrobe, whom he delegates military details to says he's heard of your family and your reptutation. On authority of the prince he authorizes you to help create a band of expert rangers, skilled in scaling difficult terrain and reconaissance. An effort to compensate somewhat for the Gerudo's uncontested superiority in such matters.
>You have met Alweir!
2. Alas, your men, upon arrival to the bridge, find that these so called “High Hylian's” look down upon you “backwater lowlanders”, sneering at your men's crude dialect which is nearly a different language due to such proximity to barbarian tribes. Truth be told many of these engineers were indeed, trained in actual engineering academies where as your family has oft to learn by mere experience in making do with patchwork and experience. Your men show no aptitude for actual design beyond dead reckoning. Little is achieved.

1-2. Take it to Zwilli to cater to every detail! She now has several options for a planned escape route, and has several options at her disposal on how she intends to rob the joint. And boy is this place loaded.
A. Safe and sure: Go in go out, take only what can be carried in a rucksack, be superficial and don't be picky, and always be able to run. High tail it at the sign of any guards. There's literally less than 1% chance of failing this.
B. Risky: Go in and go for only choicest items! Try to penetrate into their vault or treasurey, and take a look into the owner's room . Try to sneak past the guards.
C. All or nothing: Stay as long as possible, load up anything and everything she can and steal an entire carriage. Incapacitate/kill guards as needed.

1-2. Running. Lots of running. Shit, you dropped the box and hear a crash like glass. Can't go back for it now.

>“Hey”

What did that voice say? 'Head to level 3 via staircase K, and then to-....'

>”Hey!”

Gods dammit you can't remember.

“HEY IDIOT. OVER HERE!”

What? Oh. It's a talking ball of light.

“Yes, YOU! Do you even know where the fuck you are going? It's this way, c'mon. That voice is a damned idiot, just keep following my light.”

Welp. You certainly don't feel as though you're going anywhere at this rate. So what the hell you may as well on the straight adventure. The fairy leads you one way, but the knights seem to be headed off another.

“Forget about them. Get out your grapple hook. Okay,

She leads you right into...a dead end! It's just a precipice leading to a cliff. Fuck, it was a trick you're so dead.

“It's not a trap look where I am.”

The ball of light circles around a wooden beam held on the cliff ceiling.

“Get out your grapple rope, just start swinging it around and throw it at it. You'll need to swing your way through.”

You can't be serious. Zombies closing in from behind, no way back and only one way forward, virini starts twirling his grapple. He throws at a the beam- it latches on! Now only one last thing to do.

Just a zombie is inches away from grabbing him, he leaps forward holding onto the rope.

---

Virini can't believe it. He's swinging! He follows the ball of light who directs him to certain wooden beams. Swing up, swing up, swing down, swing left, swing right.

At the last ceiling beam the ball of light tells him to jump. And he jumps! He just barely makes it onto another ledge, rolling and tumbling onto the ground, until at last he lays on his back breathing heavily. Exhilirated and exhausted, he can't believe he was able to do that. He had never even thought such a thing was possible.

He turns his head to the side, and see's the ball of light dancing around.

“Ha ha ha! Fuck you Nintendo! I fucking did it, I taught a skil! Whose a defect program now. I'm A GOD DAMNED TUTORIAL FAIRY!”

A fairy? Indeed, the light moves right in front of your face and before your eyes floats the glowing frame of a tiny, slender woman with wings. It's a fairy. It stares at him, almost quizitively, before speaking.

“Well? I'd a bit of groveling for saving your life, but a thanks will suffice idiot. My name is Jene, and I'm your fairy now, so I expect some gratitude would be nice. Hey, I wonder what happened to your friends.”

As for the Knights, they had run into a true dead end with no one to aid them. As the undead lurched forward, escape for the King and his knights seemed hopeless. When suddenly, the narrator suffered a frustrating case of writers block.

The knights suddenly found themselves right in front of Vrini. Their situational peril, was handwaved.

The quest for the sacred chalice, could continue.

---
Virini and company find themselves before a strange glowing door, with something like a big red eye staring down at them.

1-2. Firem scouts the hills.

Under normal circumstance, it would be practically impossible for anyone to spot any individual archer among a hialstorm of arrows. But thankfully, this sharpshooter was the only one firing and seemed to be the only one able to reliably hit through the smoke.

Firem makes a guess, watching the pallisades below. He looks at each individual arrow, how they are pointed a certain way, and his eyes trace what he envisions is their angle.

Low and behold, just as the sun starts to rise and daylight breaks, he spots an arrow fly from the hill, silhouhetted by the light is a lone figure just barely covered by a rock.

Praying to the gods for luck, he raises his bow and looses a single arrow.

It flies through the air. . .hit! The figure reels back. And doesn't get up.

As the sun rise and the Gerudo reposition that was the last Firem saw of the Sharpshooter, for now. Beneath him, men cheer up and him.

Firem can't believe his luck.

+Good Soldier Cameraderie
+2/8 Great Archer

The cheer is short lived as now that the dust is cleared, the arrows from the enemy hill once more start flying. Several begin to hit the stones around Firem, who ducks back into cover. Guess they don't like somene hitting their sharpshooter.

1. Alas, contrary to what he expected, the Prince is in fact, less interested in battle as he is at his own coin. He makes it a point that as both Prince and King, the thrones personal coffers (and his own) will always take prerogative over that of state. That is to say, stay away from my money. You have your position in the camp, such as useful as it is. But before the state takes any hand in loot, taxes, or else, it is the royal right of the Prince to take his 'fair due' and let his administrators deal with the rest.
Seems the prince is equally as interested in his purse as you are. Doesn't look like easy money will come from him. Not yet at least. But at least you have your position.
+1/4 Weak Prince Rapport
2. Unfortunately, his own promotion as Imperial Administrator has somewhat been his undoing in regards to contacts in the underworld. He was only able to keep what he had in the capital city as he had built up those before ascending to his current title, but out here in the widlerness he seems as little more than a scrupulous inspector out to gnab any thief or brigand he can get his hands on.

1-2. Lossin fights for his life against the clearly skilled Gerudo. His years of training and superior armor and equipment matched by the skill of the Gerudo warrior and her blades.
She wounds him again.
But he wounds her!
Parrying her blows and trying to bash her with his shield, he continues to hold his own. It isn't clear who is going to win the fight, even as a horn is sounded. The Gerudo dodges and rolls away, before turning to flee, giving one last look into Lossin's eyes. He can see he's torn her garb and it's stained red.
Is this a draw or a win? Whatever it is, men around him cheer as the Gerudo flee at daybreak, arrows chasing them off.

Around him, Pax can see that even less of the men who came across the bridge are left standing.

No time to rest though, the arrows are comnig back. Get your shield up!

>Just making sure, you recognize where you currently are yes?
>Your action may or may not be still valid, but just a reminder you're with Ganon and his party, not at the front

The last update said we'd be facing potential combat

1. The dust begins to clear as the sun rises, at the last moment Tuvuma orders the retreat. The Gerudo turn and run, having drawn what blood they could of the enemy. The warriors retreat back up over the hills as the archers on both sides resume their firefight.

Tuvuma overlooks the battlefield as the dust settles and the sun rises. Gerudo lay strewn here and there, /especially/ around that fucking Goron and more where the amored knights where.

The cost was high.

But despite all this, the Hylian's paid even higher.

Wounds, arrows, landslide, and battle have created a great mound of Hylian dead corpses. Very likely what was once hundreds, can now be thought of as dozens. The sand is stained red with Hylian gore that drips over into the river.

The numbers favored the Gerudo this day. If every battle against the foe was like this, victory might still be in the grasp of the gerudo.

2. The warriors, what is left of them, withdraw and the archers are likewise ready to pull back at a moments notice. Tuvuma takes this time to currently evaluate her options.

Already she has some warriors prepare a plan of hidden camps scattered throughout the shifting sand dunes, intending to use Gerudo mobility and skill at desert warfare against the Hylians.

>Can you describe the mountain pass?
Between the River Zora and the vast Gerudo Desert lie a large mountain range. There is but one and only one dirt road through these mountains by which wagon and horse can safely travel through. It is long and winding, in several places entering steep gorges surrounded both sides by vertical rock walls dozens of meters high, and others worm around bends, corners, and around hills like intestines. The road itself does its best to travel through the lowlands and valleys, avoiding the white snowcapped peaks of the mountains that loom over them.

The rest of the Gerudo force is in disagreement over the next course of action if, or rather when, the Hylian army cross over the bridge.

Some Gerudo, who were raised to live in these mountains, claim it is the perfect place to inflict attrition and casualties on the enemy. A lot of them were raised by Gerudo goat herders and montain men, who know how to survive in the mountains. “Wherever a goat can go, a man can bring a bow.” and insist that by repeatng the tactic of spread out, concealed firing positions and use of high terrain we could bleed the Hylian's white as they are forced to funnel their vast army, horses, and wagons through the mountain passes, performing hit and run attacks and ambushes.. There are indeed a good supply of mountain trained Gerudo who have lived in and are familiar with these parts, which they say assures them an advantage in mobility if the Hylian forces try to disperse and attack them in the hills. Most of their army wears such heavy iron armor and gear, they would strain themselves trying to climb up the steep slopes to follow them.

Others claim this is the set up for a disaster. There's too great a risk that small forces scattered about could be isolated, cut off, and then destroyed. It would be hubris to think that the Hylian army didn't also have mountain trained forces, or that they couldn't quickly adapt to the condition, and ambush them instead. Sure, we have some mountain Gerudo, but we have far more desert dwellers where most of the Gerudo live. The majority of our force is better skilled in desert warfare than mountain warfare. And as much as the Hylian's own horses and wagons would be relegated to the pass, it would also mean /our/ own horses and supply wagons would not be able to fight in this battle as well. There's risk of logistical constraints of food and ammunition, and being cut off from lines of retreat. They say what we should do is simply blast landslides to block the pass, to buy time for their own defensive strategy in the desert.

Tuvuma seems to have a major voice in this debate, and so her decision will likely take effect

1-2. Alas, Norbunga has lost her precious armor, sunk somewhere in the bottom of the Zora river along with a great number of supplies and corpses
-Average Old Hyrule Knight's Heavy Armor
-Average Old Hyrule Knight's Heavy Shield

She does remember some rumor that the Witch Mothers of the Prince had managed to find a different set of heavy armor.

Saving what else she can, there isn't really much she can save as a lot of it was blasted in the explosion. She can be thankful that she landed safe and sound on a river bank, where camped on the side are Gerudo with horses and wagons who were expecting a ship loaded with supplies.

Much to their dissapointment, only the wrecks and burning scraps float down, as they fish out injured Gerudo. This seems to have been a terrible disaster and quite a dissapointment.

By stroke of luck, at least, on Norbunga's parts most of the survivors seem to be those who sided with her. The Gerudo on shore believe her story about the traitorous pirates, shaking their heads and saying that those supplies and bombs would have come in handy. But, at least, they are now forever denied the enemy.

Norbunga and her fellow survivors are then brought back to the Gerudo Fortress. Where she is treated.

1-2. Alweir begins to enact his next phase, creating an oganized group of men specifically geared for handling the terrain and landscape difficulties of the Gerudo nation.

This will be a great challenge, but ultimately one that will likely pay off. There are very few men capable of his current needs. But not zero.

There are indeed, some Hylians who were once tradesmen having frequented the Gerudo valley themselves. What's more, there are other men from far off wildernesses who have a much greater respect for the will of nature.

One lord in particular comes from the borderlands, and shows great promise.

Pax stands.

Bleeding, injured, hurt.

But he stands, leaning on his spear, barely able to hold his own body up.

Around him, dozens, maybe hundreds of Hylian lay dead. Some men he knew his entire lives, others strangers. Gerudo lie among them too, outnumbered in death as they were in life.

The formation he helped to get together along with his commander, who himself is barely still alive, has largely been devastated by the fight.

The only true comfort is seeing the Gerudo fall back as the dust settles and daylight approaches, but even that relief is cut short by yet the sound of more arrows incoming. Grimly, he raises his shield and crawls into a nearby trench, already soaked with gore and blood. He pulls a nearby corpse to huddle under, arrows sticking it like a sandbag.

He survived. He fought. He learned. And he lead.

Now he just needs to live. The bridge is almost ready, help will be here soon.

This interests him, and, so, in his free time Alweir decides to have a brief discussion with said engineers in the matter. Alweir suspects they have some talent even if it is unrecognized. To this end, Alweir says: "I have a timetable, foreman, and I will not have my timetable and the prince's soldiers slaughtered by some stupid prejudice of which you are so fond. Your lack of alacrity has already cost many lives, and now more will be taken by your provincial...attitude. You will let the lowlanders try, and we will see what they can do." [Talk to the engineers; be blunt]
2. Alweir, in the remainder time, continues on his rangers project. Many long hours are spent designing basic materials, rounding up the few individuals capable of training, and soliciting more advice. He is increasingly relying on the technical expertise of Amberlain for vagaries – Alweir has never had experience in this sort of thing, but he suspects it will be useful in the future. Bonus: [The eye that believes not what it see's, see's all] - Meilouru suspects everything from everyone, and therefor, is never proven wrong. A lifetime of guarding herself from lies and falsehood's has also in turn, taught her those same tricks. She is more than capable of blending in to foreign armies, but woe befall her should she be caught.

>Makeup rolls

Meilouru again stashes her Gerudo bow and quiver at her (new) camp site, along with the All Night Mask. That Wizrobe would be looking for the mask...

1. Keeping her Hyrulian Guard Armor on and adding the Hawkeye Mask to better hide her face, Meilouru heads toward the Hyrulian forces working on repairing the bridge.

Disguised as one of the Hyrulians, she would pick her way among the dead and wounded, recovering a Hyrulian Bow and Quiver for herself, a sword or dagger if possible, and recovering those that were wounded but unable to recover themselves. She would likely need the aid of Hyrulians to carry those that could not walk, however...
[Go to bridge, 'recover' Hyrulian weapons, hide theft by helping wounded.]
+Good Speechcraft(?), Good Disguise, Good Observation, Hawkeye Mask, [Long-as-fuck-named Bonus]

2. While she stalked the dead and dying, maybe she would find something of value upon one of the dead, and no one would notice?
[Obligatory Gerudo roll. Rupies/food/trinkets?]

Recovering wounded Hyrulians early drained their already exhausted supplies, right?

How is this not banned?

Different from quests. It's cooperative storytelling with dice rolling. Innately different from quests in that they are PCs. A similar game type, NB is closer to risk

Hyrule dropped. SO SAYS BAZRAEL

No it's not. It's just...slow

You say that buuuuuuuuuut

SOON

K, he said soon guys. Update in 2 days confirmed.

The ancient door glows and opens, the warband walking inside.

It's quiet, deathly quiet. Silea and some other warriors flank the Prince as they walk in carefully, the area dust and dank with age. The walls appear like nothing they have seen before, of a smooth grey stone and eerie glowing lines all around.

Skeletons lie around, wearing odd garbs, some resemble Gerudo garments, others resemble Hylian wear. Finally they approach a glowing sign, and the Prince has Ash read it again.

“Welcome to the Lanayru Corporation subterranean transit system.

ERROR: we're sorry but all trains are currently cancelled or delayed due to technical difficulties. We appreciate your patience.

ALARM: Quarantine protocols in place. Please vacate the area or head to the nearest shelter.”

What the hell does that even mean?

The Prince seems to know, as he pulls out that strange green device again. He presses yet more buttons on it, and a face appears. He whispers something, and from his pocket, withdraws a single silver rupee. It vanishes in his hand!

The sign changes, and Ash reads it again.

“Administrator access confirmed. Emergency protocols overide.

Activating systems.

Overriding Quarantine.

WARNING. Confirm Quarantine Override?

Overide Quarantine confirm”

The walls begin to glow, then bright flashes appear from the ceiling. There's a deep groaning noise, and suddenly...music. Music begins to play. The light illuminates a vast and long tunnel which seems to go on forever on either side.

Shortly afterward, something horrible. Ear piercing screams are heard from both sides of the tunnel, and deep glowing red eyes appear. Things start crawling their way toward them.

By the goddess, corpses!

>con't don't post

bump

He said don't post dude.

yes

Nice trips, but you still shouldn't be posting.

The Prince motions to the witchmothers, one proceeds to burn the zombies in one tunnel to cinders, another freezes the rest of them into icles.

The frozen zombies are then smashed into pieces as large, horseless carriages of stone seemingly floating on air move in before them, doors opening up.

More zombies!

“Warriors, kill these abominations!”

Silea and her comrades move up.

--

Ash gets some GREAT material watching Gerudo wariors fight the undead this close. Seenig their blades and bodies spin and dance through the air. Silea in particular stands out among all others, dicing and slicnig zombies and raking up more kills than many of her friends combined. . . and she looks so amazing while doing it.
+1 Entry – Gerudo fighting style

>con't

1. The healers do their work, the Gerudo seem to have plenty of stocks of supplies as well as the wisdom of the elders. +Lightly Wounded (Healing)

2. The Witch Mothers and the Prince are gone, and yet. . .you really want that armor badly.

You aren't able to discern where they are, so you decide to head into the palace to find out. at night, when no one is looking (seems like a lot of the guards are gone) you sneak in.

As if by fate, you find the Witchmother's room! And low and behold, there in the center, a strange set of armor. It bears many runes and markings on it, though it is completely empty.

1-2. Jene doesn't even have to do anything as the doors open on their own.

"Get in, quickly!"

Not needing to be told twice, the party enters, the room is empty except for an odd pole in the center, with a glowing blue sphere.

The voice you heard before speaks. "Wow, I don't believe it. You're the first one to get past all those redead since... ever!"

"Who says that!" speaks the leader of the knights "Come forth and show yourself, that we may meet thee."

"Why, I'm right here."

"Where?"

"Here! Oh- you've never seen a robot before. I'm the thing standing right in front of you."

A talking pole, with a glowing blue eye. The knights are astounded, though Jene seems a little leery.

It introduces itself as LD-6701 Watcher. It is a 'Robot', a living construct of metal and magical energy brought to life by Lanayru the Dragon an amazing amount of years ago. This place he says was once a great tunnel used by the races of old to travel underneath the river you call Zora, many millinea ago. It was abandoned when a demon known as Demise waged war on the world, and unleashed a terrible plague of 'undeath' forcing the tunnel to be collapsed and sealed.

He is one of the last of the robots still left alive, along with some others watching over the Core, his 'leader'.

He's very much amazed to have company. They've never had visitors in a long long time. The zombies have killed everyone out there, robot and human alike. However within these walls we're perfectly safe.

"The Quarantine protocols ensure that the defensive turrets and magical barriers keep the undead out. The Quarantine protects us, keeps us safe from harm. Nothing can go wrong."

As the Robot finishes his last sentence, suddenly the lights that were around you go dark, and then turn a deep shade of red. Alarms sound all around you.

"Robot, what is that?" says the Knight

The Robot is quiet. Very quiet. Then in a trembling voice it speaks.

"...the Quarantine has just gone offline!"
