Malifaux is a 32mm Skirmish Tabletop game, with a focus on completing several different objectives, while denying your opponent their objectives.

For conversion purpose, does Wyrd sell any naked Gremlins, or am I stuck modding Gamin?

Topics?

Negative you're stuck.

Damn.

Oh well, Ice Gamin, here I come.

>From last thread
Regarding summoned models counting towards the cost of a tournament pool:

Fair points regarding how far it cuts down Summoner versatility.
That would throw off the balance, potentially significantly.

The only counterpoint I could put to that is that, by limiting the number of choices available, and/or the number of physical models that can be summoned onto the table, it goes some small way to redress past issues of summoners eating up too much time in a time-limited round.

At 100ss, you're probably only bringing two or three Masters.
If one of them is a summoner (or you play Ressurs) then you probably already have an idea of what kind of Strats and Schemes you want to go for with those Masters (or crew modules), and will be planning summons accordingly.

I'm aware it's not the strongest argument, there is an impact, but I think that it is not as significant as the reaction last thread suggests.

Is there a reason you couldn't use another company's blanks?
There must be a few out there that sell appropriately sized nearly naked blanks.
Hasslefree do a bunch of 28mm 'sky-clad' humans, but they're of barbarian-y proportions, so probably won't work for any but the henchest of Grems, even with the scale difference.

Most Gremlins have odd limb and body proportions and also they are on the small side.
I also only want about four or so.

Hey guys I'm building some misaki outcast lists that I've been throwing around adding in bishop and/or dr.grimwell. I'll be playing a blind deployment game for divergent paths (gotta get dat trickster) so I'm super tempted to get a bunch of hard hitting/tanky models and just make turn one a bloodbath. Do you guys have any recommendations?

Definitely run a bunch of self sufficient models. The new Wokou Raiders would be solid minions. Disguised/Cutpure/Survivalist Misaki would be impossible to put down in such a disorganized deployment.

Bump

Can't decide between Misaki or Hamelin for my first Guilder model.

Yeah I'm planning on running disguise, cutpurse, survivalist misaki so they can't charge, tempted to take ronin for similar reasons. And possibly a librarian for healing on ronin and jorogumo (even though they have built in healing). I feel I need another heavy hitter though which is why I'm considering grimwell

Both are good I plan to get both eventually.

Smoke and Shadows in a full Last Blossom crew might be worth considering. Counteract blind deployment by redeploying models everywhere.

See blind deploy doesn't bother me, I'm gonna have the jorogumo and being able to put them into combat turn 1 is good. It's actually the reason I'm not taking a last blossom list this time round.

I want to jam my bushwhacker into Trixiebelle's Bayou.

>The new Wokou Raiders
What do you think of them. They seem alright, but the price tag is pretty steep.
3lewd5me

Thinking about Starting up Nico. I've got a buddy who's pretty deep into Ressers so I can borrow most of his stuff for summoning. But I'll need to pick it up eventually, if we ever face off against each other.

What are Nico's go to summons?
Punks are a big one, Belles seem pretty big too. Are there any other must haves?

Hanged and Shikome are always useful. Guild Autopsies are a good option when you don't have high crows in hand. The rest are much more situational.

You summon what you need at the time to accomplish your devious plans.

Generally you're best avoiding summoning for the sake of it.

Are Guild Autopises usually a better option then dogs?

I'm not sure what you thought I was asking.
I know that you summon based on your situation. I'm asking what are the most important models to have on hand, ie, what will be useful in more situations. So I know what I should buy first.

It depends. I like Autopsies because they can focus+shoot from their summon position a lot of the time, but dogs are solid too.

That does seem like a bonus. The fact that they self heal is nice too, if you bring them in the early game.

Are theese painted any good?

...

They seem pretty good to me. But I'm a terrible painter.

Just got into Malifaux and these are my first models! I fell in love with the Death Marshalls and went from there. This was the perfect way to start OSL techniques and I think they turned out pretty decently. These were unfortunately speed painted to make time for a tournament, but I would like to go back now and touch them up a bit.

What do you guys think?

Yo I'm in love with those shadows.

I'm not sure if I like or dislike how heavy those lighting effects are.

thanks man
I definitely took it an extreme. I wanted to replicate the feeling of Kingdom Death minis.

Good work user.
It might not be my cup of tea, but it definitely took skill.

Not bad bro, but the pictures aren't great, so I can't comment much further.
Look like decent tabletop quality.
Maybe some washing or highlighting on the 'flesh'/skin-fabric, to bring out the stitching seams?

Personally, I really don't like the way OSL looks at all, but that is a .very. well executed piece of painting tech.
Similar to what the other guy said, I think the flames themselves could stand to be brighter/lighter to justify how much shade/light is currently cast though - at the moment the balance looks a little off to me.

GOD DAMN SON YOU MADE MY PANTS TIGHT.

I wish I could paint that good.

I still can't get Aeslin looking anywhere near decent so i've given up and i'm trying to work my way through my massive backlog of unpainted stuff.
Almost done on Lelu, just got some work to do the the metals, a hand I completely didn't forget to paint when I was doing the rest of the skin and finally his hair.
I'm not sure what colour would work for it, black might blend in too much with his outfit.

I like the black hair with the outfit. Like he made an effort to coordinate.

Might try some blood on the hand since it still needs painting.

So got my Viks Avatar in the mail. Now I don't have to buy the donkey. Just gotta wait for the cards to show up on wargame vault.

Wait, are avatars still legal as emissary proxies? Fuck yeah, eat shit you mechanical cow.

They are in the gaining grounds 2016 rules. Plus, I have something to proxy if I ever do a campaign again.

I've just started playing and i've picked ten thunders as my faction. I have Mei Feng and Lynch at the moment, I like the look of brewmaster, does he do ok as thunders or is he better off just being played in gremlins?

Any recommendations for decent cheap base inserts? I want to spruce up my army, but I absolutely hate basing, and would rather go about it the lazy way.

Maybe green stuff and one of those textured logs?

>Thinks they're decent
>speed painted them

8 hours later, one model done, and I get pic related.

Those lighting effects make my wee wee hard

Brewy is great in 10T since he can get Sensei Yu to roll with him, plus Misdirection and Yin. Swill everything, hit them with Lone Swordsman.

Think he works well with most crews.

I used green stuff as mud and bits of sticks as logs. I used bits if sprue as planking/docks. But I'm running gremlins or might not fit your crew.

I remember seeing an easy cobblestone tutorial using greenstuff somewhere.

I used to not be big in basing. But it makes a huge difference.

Anybody have the first edition books? Need me some Levi fluff

Shit. I knew there was something I meant to do at work today.

Damn

Not necessarily malifaux related but I organized my paints before starting on jorogumo #1

...

So Outcasts misaki dude here after thinking about it for the better part of the night, I think I'm gonna roll with this list for the "blind deployment" divergent path game. Thoughts?
Misaki -- 2ss
+Cutpurse - 1ss
+Disguise - 2ss
+Survivalist - 1ss
Freikorps Librarian - 7ss
Jorogumo - 9ss
Jorogumo - 9ss
Jorogumo - 9ss
Ronin - 6ss
Ronin - 6ss

My local has a Relic Hunters box on shelf with a 'bonus mini' sticker on it.
Does anyone know what the bonus mini is?

Nice.
Still don't know about the paint job, seems like it'd be better on a track or inorganic hard surface.

Maybe one is based.

Pretty sure it's johanah.

Any tips for dealing with Viks as post nerf Levi?

I want 'em to look otherworldly that's why I'm trying to go with the space/void look. I personally think it looks pretty good, I may add some osl to the eyes and maybe a gloss coat to the body though.

What's your problem w/ 'em?

Oh, I'm just newish and need all the help I can get not to be butchered

Kill vik of blood first. Vik of ashes normally will not commit unless she has to or your opponent is new. If you commit forces to deal with blood their overall effectiveness will be lessened.

Looks solid, good luck.

Alrighty, thanks.

Also, how do I use Ashes and Dust well? They seem slightly tricksy

Thanks.

Stay near a board edge and kill whatever gets in your way. Reform if possible, but you can also easily score Outflank by splitting up and bringing in Dust on the opposite board edge.

Anybody get in a Divergent Paths game yet?

I did.

>Forgot my 10T at home, guess I'm an Arcanist today
>One of my newer players asks for a game, been getting better every game so this may be the one
>Declares Guild, wants to go for the child
>Take Sandeep and a bunch of academics, newly built sanctioned spellcaster, valedictorian, librarian, and a slate ridge mauler just because I built it that night
>Whole crew of disciplined, studious mages and also a bear
>Guild has full witch hunter crew of Sonnia and the asylum crew
>Sonnia's witchlings went rogue to chase down an inquisitive child, she has to rein them in
>We both run in
>Sonnia puts up a wall in my way
>Sandeep teleports to a nearby catwalk, blasts Francisco and drops Banasuva on his head, who promptly whiffs
>Banasuva goes first and crushes Francisco
>Grimwell scoots up and escorts the child away
>Bear charges the neutral witchlings and hurts one
>Sammael rapid fires into the combat, killing one stalker, which blows up the other and hits Boris for a good chunk
>Kudra jumps in next to Sonnia to annoy her
>Team Sonnia can't touch or move Kudra
>Team Sandeep races after the kid
>Valedictorian charges witchlings, hurts one
>Sandeep drops a wild gamin, finishes a Witchling and hits Grimwell
>Sammael shoots at the other Witchling, kills it, blows up and sets fire to the Valedictorian and drops her to 2
>She runs away
>Heartsbane randomly gets severe on a neg flip to kill Kudra
>Banasuva teleports next to Sonnia, hits her a bunch
>Grimwell orders Sonnia away, runs away
>Sonnia nukes the wind gamin and flees behind walls
>Librarian enjoys a free push from the dead wind gamin, catches Grimwell and blows him away
>Orderlies run
>Bear catches orderly and eats him to heal up
>Sandeep starts chasing Sonnia
>Valedictorian eats the other orderly
>Heartsbane pushes and gets a free attack off her trigger, RJ damage to one shot the librarian, then bounces off a spellcaster
>Ice Gamin kills Heartsbane with a RJ damage

>Sonnia and Sandeep have epic wizard duel, doing all of 4 damage between the two of them
>Banasuva brings Sam down
>Last turn, after failed wizard duel, Sandeep caves Sonnia's skull in with his mace
>He got lots of VP from witchlings and the kid, beat me out by 2

I was so proud of my newbie focusing on VP while I was killing stuff. Really like how Sandeep and crew play.

Didn't realize how long that would be, my bad.

Thanks bro

What gamin was close enough to banasuva to take 2 damage?

I hired an ice gamin and dragged it up the table a bit.

New FAQ is up, some big changes.

themostexcellentandawesomeforumever-wyrd.com/topic/121636-september-faq-errata/

I'm gona do it. Going to have my first game ever in a few hours.

Kirai nerf, which is a good thing, McCabe nerf, also good, paralyze change is weird but makes sense.

Have fun! We'll be here for the pile of questions you'll have afterwards.

I'm in class so can't read it explain?

Kirai now has to summon Ikyrio in a place where she can see it.
You can no longer chain activate the same model off of itself.
You can no longer obey paralyzed models to take actions.

96) Does Kirai need to summon Ikiryo within her LoS when summoning it with the Malevolence Ability?
Yes. Actions and Abilities which summon require LoS (this can be found in the Errata). (9/14/16)

Alright cool, and McCabe?

Pg. 36, “Chain Activations” Call Out Box: Change the second sentence of the second paragraph to: “A model may not Chain Activate itself, and a player can never declare the use of more than once such Ability between her opponent’s Activations.” (9/14/16)

No reactivating dogs and companioning themselves.

>You can no longer obey paralyzed models to take actions.
I must have missed that one.

McCabe nerf how?

No dogs with 4 ap.

You can't give a dog reactivate and let it activate twice in a row. Now you can't auto get 3VP for deliver a message from across the table.

I think if you blackline the joints and crevasses (between leg segments, fingers, carapace ridges etc.) and detail the face the overall effect will be much greater. Right now it looks like an undifferentiated blob, and there's nothing for the eye to latch on to. Maybe paint the weapon a different color too, something like obsidian could be neat maybe. Really like the concept so far though

Clear acrylic my nigga. That's all I base on, why go for scenery which won't always be consistent with the table?

I just want to play one crew for like 20 games to learn Malifaux and their interactions and stuff. Is this a bad choice to start with? I already own most of the crew so it'd be kinda shit if it's poorly crafted.
Leveticus
-survivalist
-pariah of iron
Lizzy Lovelace
-i pay better
Freikorps Librarian
Johana
Freikorps Trapper
Brutal Effigy
Watcher
Performer

>learn Malifaux
>Leveticus
>bad?
Yes.

Look man, he's the only one I thought was cool. I've read the guides and hateful darkblacks rundown of rebirth and positioning. Aside from that, is the crew bad or have any glaring weaknesses?
Cause I mean, just saying Leveticus is tough to learn in response to a query regarding crew capability isn't very helpful or relevant.

Fuck, I already love the changes Aaron is making. This is going to be a renaissance for Malifaux.

Where do you get clear acrylic bases that are the right size?
Nigga he's got twenty haves to figure it out. Levi is a little tougher then some but it's not rocket surgery.

Looks pretty solid to me.

Survivalist is largely pointless of Leve since he's going to be dying and respawning anyway.

You may also want some more anchors. A&D, Alyce, Lazarus, etc are all solid picks.

It's not an awful crew, just seems like a bit of a mishmash.

looking forward to a Divergent Paths game this Sunday. Shop is heavily skewed towards neverborn and outcasts, so I might borrow a friends guild models just to break up the monotomy (play outcasts myself).

I understand he's going to die, it was to make it take at least 2 actions, which would create a potential 4 Unmade retaliation damage, to hopefully create some trepidation in deciding to pursue that course.

I have 4 and only 1 is melee. Should I be aiming for 5+ or more big guy anchors?

Maybe if I describe my intents it will assist with feedback:
Brutal and Watcher are just there to support Leveticus and scheme. One to increase his survivability, potentially support crew with draws from killing opposing scheme runners, and to increase his threat range.
Lovelace was intended for movement disruption, facilitating the mercenaries flips, and improving Leveticus' movement.
Performer was for backup schemeing, cointer schemeing, and movement disruption. Also very light poison support with Lovelace.
Trapper to backup scheme and force cover or pick off the wounded.
Johana for melee beatstick and condition removal.
Librarian for the utility, anywhere she is damage or heals will most likely be useful.

Basically, I want to :
-make it difficult for my opponent to scheme/score by wasting their actions through influencing positioning and movement
-have Leveticus port around on Mindless Zombies killing exposed models to increase my potential schemers (aboms) and resources (cards, action disparity)
-win through attrition

>Levi
>Killing-machine

He used to be, but the card you got with Levi is out of date after a nerf he got sometime last year. You may want to check it out to make sure it doesn't change your game plan.

Some people say he's pure trash now, some says he's still a vengeful god, but I'm not good enough to make that judgement.

Okay first game done.
Got my ass handed to me pretty solidly. Learned alot so that's always an upside, and managed to squeak into a slowgrow league that just started up this week.
I had Brewmaster and company against his Indiana Jones guys.
I didn't play the schemes and focussed on just fighting his guys (really wanted to learn interactions between abilities and what my dudes actually do).
Now with the Brewmaster do I want to keep my guys grouped up and inside his bubble in a blob so I can make use of all the poison triggers? Is it okay to just have a dude skirting around the outside of the board or will he just get picked off by ranged opponents?

I agree with , blacklining at detailing will make it look fifty times better.
A nice glossy obsidian weapon and OSL eyes sound bloody great.

Cool report, cheers Sandeep Desu.

Yup, I have erratad card.
I actually want to focus down the opposing schemers with Leveticus as opposed to the enforcers and above. If I attack their action count, potentially raise mine, and try to hinder the movement of their muscle, this is the crew I've chosen. Please judge it based on that goal or critique the goal itself. Also, maybe I didn't make it clear, though I did say Lev was going to be killing opposing scheme runners.

I'm glad that Paralyze change was made.
It's just dumb the old way, I've always thought that.

Also makes my Performers so much better.

>49349367
Justin seemed to go with the rules as written while Aaron doesn't mind rewriting tonaccount for unforseen circumstances to create a more, cohesive and common sense game. I'm liking this new change. The aversion to revision was not good for longevity.

>The aversion to revision was not good for longevity.

I agree, I feel a lot of the issues stemming from Privateer Press games is their refusal to say "oops."

When Wyrd owns up to their mistakes and revises rules for good reason, the end up creating a better game state. My only concern is they start doing it a little TOO carelessly and end up becoming reactionary.

Agreed. All the changes make sense.

Speaking of the changes, how did the summoning thing affect Nico? He targets a corpse maker, if the market is a mindless zombie, does that mean he can't sumon on the far side of the zombie since it's out of Los?

>Now with the Brewmaster do I want to keep my guys grouped up and inside his bubble in a blob so I can make use of all the poison triggers?
Yes.
>Is it okay to just have a dude skirting around the outside of the board?
Yes.
>or will he just get picked off by ranged opponents?
Yes.

Keep the bubble, but don't worry about breaking it up a bit to do the job that needs doing.
With Brew, try to tarpit as much of his crew as you can conveniently catch, then use what is now effectively your superior activation and board control resources to get y our objectives scored.

Oooh, good point.
But I'd imagine that you're still going to get most of the utility out of that, Mindless Zombies are only 30mm, right?
Or does the wording state that it's treated as a Corpse Marker (which are Ht0)?

I don't think that would become a problem unless the seemingly positive response gets to Aaron's head. It's a new position for him and I assume he's going to be a bit reserved as these changes seem to be things he's thought and and wanted to make for a while.
In his post he says the erratas would only be released twice a year. I'm hoping that was intentional to prevent overzealousneas and hopefully improve ongoing balance tests. The implied openness and willingness to monitor the balance post release is something I love hearing a company commit to.

Guess I'm gonna look up blacklining. As for the osl and glossy comments it isn't the first time I've heard that, so I'm gonna test out some gloss varnish, what color would you recommend for glowing eyes?

On another note I got a new deck today.
