Well to be fair growths pretty much go up by game. Hell the only reason Ike's growths aren't even better in RD is that his bases are good enough till he hits 20/20 which is almost impossible not to do

Ike was stuck at 14 strength most of the game for me, I've known people who were screwed by 8 str the entire game. Yeah mercenaries/heroes (his class might be lord but he's clearly based on it) may be middle of the road between myrm and fighter but they at least have a good balance of skill,speed and strength. Normally he ends up weaker than most myrms for me.

I fucking hate this concept. Magic shouldn't be something you can write down in a book and memorize. It should be about discipline, attunement, willpower or something equally abstract. I also don't like the hard fixed amount of spells/day. I get it's about balance, but there must be other ways to balance mages without making them a glorified rifle.

Wizards are inseperable from books and wands in pop culture though, but I get your point and kind of agree with it. If it were up to me, there'd be one arcane magic class, one divine magic class and one demonic magic class and that's it. Wizard, Cleric and Warlock respectively. Other words such as priest, druid, mage, sorcerer, witch etc. would simply be terms used in certain regions of the world to refer to these three casters. The arcane caster would be a hybrid between the D&D sorcerer and wizard: their casting is innate, certain spells can be cast infinitely and others only a certain amount per day. Incredibly powerful, worldbreaking spells would be rituals. These rituals would be contained in spellbooks, and wizards can only cast one ritual spell per day. Some would simply require the possession of a spellbook, while others would have other conditions (for example: a certain rare spell component, or the gathering of X number of wizards with a combined level of at least Y).

These rituals could also be plot hooks for a pretty awesome campaign. Imagine trying to keep a "erase the world, fuck you" ritual that the BBEG desperately wants to get the spellbook for. The party would have to try to get it first and either play infinite keepaway or destroy it.

I'm not sure if overloading the classes is so many concepts are a good idea, but I like how 4e handles magic, and having the field arty abilities not be tied to a spell book so explicitly.

It's like stealing a reference book from a programmer ... before good internet reference material. The programmer can do what they were trying to do, but doing something different would be much harder.
