So one thing I've had questions about is what are you supposed to do when fighting a highly melee based army as Imperial Guard? For me it almost always end the same way with the enemy closing the distance in the first turn and tearing my army to pieces in the second turn. I don't know if I'm too retarded to know what I'm doing wrong so if this is just what happens.

TWC?

First for that GSC temp PDF is completely useless.

Feed them tiny squads each turn and don't let them multi-charge you.

If you have 50 men, that's 5 squads of 10. That can keep them occupied for 5 turns: the entire game. The rest of your army is free to do whatever it wants while they're chewing through those 50 men. They cannot kill more than one squad a turn. You can also try to block them with terrain that they can't get through. This doesn't work if they can jump or use jet move though.

Choosing an army, Deathwatch or Blood Angels?

I know both are not ultra competitive but I like Marines.

Deathwatch = small, elite, customizable, weapons can be good against pretty much any type of target

Blood Angels = assault, fast, more army options, all the flamer and melta weapons

Here's my first attempt at a GSC list.

Lots of small, cheap squads for the Brood Cycle taxes, and then modestly upgraded ones in the auxiliary formations.

Try Sentinels. Their AV12 front armor is very tough to beat, and they're fearless. Supplement with a net of conscripts with a priest.

Keep your distance from deployment until as long as you can and consider rolling (and rerolling) for the warlord trait that allows D3 Outflanking units. This will allow you to reserve important units, then deploy them at the back of the board after your opponent spent the first couple of turns getting all the way to your "Front" of the board.

Transports are priority targets. Blow them up first turn, and it should buy you at least one extra turn as the previously 12-18" movement becomes a measly 6+D6 per turn.

Look for countermobility wherever possible. You can even try luring units out of position! For example, a Leman Russ tank commander can try a gambit where he deploys out in the open on one side of the table. When the enemy gets close to him, order "Full Throttle" and move 6" Movement phase plus 6+D6 in the shooting. Assuming the melee unit isn't still in a transport, you've basically put that unit out in the open and bought a couple turns of shoot-and-scooting him.

Take flamer vets in chimeras and charge midfield. He'll have to deal with 3D3 wounds due to wall of flame, and once he finishes off the vets he'll be stuck in the middle of the field after giving you at least one turn to reposition your shooty units to get optimal murder on his melee.

>go to shop to play 40k on Sunday
>no one shows up
>decide to start building one of the two Imperial Sectors owner bought for the store
>spend like 7 hours in a corner of the store alone
>occasionally chat to some of the DnD spergs
>to clarify: they are spergs who play DnD
>get through half of the first box
>holy fuck mold lines
>owner shows up at the end of the day to check in and close out
>sees the shit I built
>get comped for a few Sisters

Didn't get to play and spent most of the day alone, but I got a couple models on the way that I never bothered to buy. I'll get to work on that command squad if this keeps up.

Thinking of making a Blood Angels successor Chapter. Or Dark Angels but I'll have to read more about them later.

Do their successors need to follow their Codex and have Sanguinary Guards, Priests and the Death Company? Or are they free to do anything in any way.

Anyone here play 2nd Edition?

Looks ok, you got the battlescribe file? Can I have it? because I cant find it.

Sundays tend to be a bit barren in shops. Religion. Football. Taking care of the lawn. This is the secret reason why the Emperor abolished all three: No one showed up to his games.

Any Ork players have any experience using the Gun Wagon to haul Boyz across the table?

Kind of tried of the Trukk explosion always wrecking the squad before they do anything useful.

Well, we said Sunday was 40k day for the store because it fit best for everyone since I work second shift.

Since 8th edition is going to be 4x4 playing area, won't the scale have to be reduced dramatically to fit?

0/10 b8

youtube.com/watch?v=vhHJC3PAN4A

How do we feel about this?

Joke's on you sucker, 8E will be 4x8. GW wants you to buy two mats.

Just update your repository.

Most of them follow the BA codex and have things like Sanguinary Guard, but a few of them are basically like vanilla marines. Some, like the Lamenters, had Sanguinary Guard and fast Rhinos, but didn't suffer from the Black Rage as much and had no Death Company. You can honestly go about it however you like, but following the BA codex is best simply to get the fast Rhinos and the trademark Death Company which all BA successors suffer from.

Honestly, BA should be able to use vanilla Honor Guard if they dislike Sanguinary Guard but I don't think that's an option in the rules.

>Since 8th edition is going to be 4x4 playing area

You say this as if it was certain, why? Its more likely that GW is selling those mats as a cheaper alternative to their realm of battle plastic tiles, so you have a cheaper mat to play Kill Team/Combat Patrol and then a more expensive choice in the form of the realms of battle.

Besides if 4x4 becomes standard then all it will do is make 500-1000pt games be the standard and as always everyone will just play larger games in 4x6 tables, GW is not going to redo the entire model line just to make another scale, its more likely that these mats are not only meant for skirmish games but to anticipate the Adeptus Titanicus release next year.

Some BA successors are more Angel-ey than others. There are quite a few that were removed from their progenitor chapter for some time, only to rediscover their heritage later (usually when the Black Rage suddenly makes itself known).

But yes essentially most BA successors will carry over all of the quirks and traditions from their founding chapter.

Has anyone used the Blood Ravens supplement on B&C? Army-wide scout seems pretty strong, and the latent psyker thing is a bit too much rolling for my taste.

Any other Blood Ravens chapter tactics that people have seen or used?

Is the emperor really a cat?

I mean has anyone ever denied it?

occasionally

Army-wide Scout is only useful if you use it for Free Outflank. Pro-tip, use it to bypass entire gunlines. I personally roll with the Raven Guard decurion, and deliberately force rerolls on deployment zones so that I get the Long-ways deployment, which works better for outflank. Then with Lias Issodon sitting cozy in the top-dog slot, I shove somewhere around 95% of my army into outflank. I mean heavy shit like Honour Guard and Sternguard.

It's pretty strong against certain opponents like Tau and Guard that want to gunline. My favorite use of this was against a Renegades and Heretics army that had a shitload of Heavy Mortar teams. I just outflanked right into their minimum range so they couldn't fire upon me, and then charged them all out the next turn.

Also, source on blood ravens supplement?

I would just use their 4th ed chapter tactics without the point costs.

Mantis Warriors had army wide Infiltrate in 5E.

It depends on the melee-based army in question.

As a Chaos player, my goal when facing Guard is typically to get my CSM and Cultists in as close and as fast as possible while my Noise Marines sit in heavy cover and rock your world with glorious Blastmaster shots.

What greatly frustrates this, however, is heavy cover/difficult terrain. Putting your guys behind obstacles and terrain (and your board should be AT LEAST 25% terrain, and really more like 50%) doesn't just give you a cover save, it also can make it much more difficult for me to get to you. Also placing your guys in a pre-set fire lane can really fuck them up after I wipe that unit and they consolidate right into a trap.

Focus on thinning swarms down with things like Wyverns, Punishers, and even Executioners. Templates and number of shots will down them - drown them in forced saves and dice.

Spread units out to maximize the distance between them - even if I wipe one unit, if you've spaced your guys out properly, I may very well not make my Charge roll next turn and be stuck out in the open for you to blast apart.

Ablative wounds (i.e. additional models) in squads you feel are important. It may not save you, but it also might just save you to have more wounds/attacks in the fight.

Don't forget you can use vehicles as mobile shields that completely block LOS against your infantry. Things like Hellhounds and their variants are fantastic for this - they're fast, have good anti-infantry weapons to take massive bites out of hordes (and the Magna-Melta is good too), and if they die they create cover and Difficult Terrain for your team (assuming they didn't die in the explosion).

>free acute senses and infiltrate on all tacs and devs
>also free counter-attack and +1A just because

Fuck that you moron that's even stronger than free drop pods in Battle Company and SW combined.

Is there any consolidated FAQs or errata?

Is it just me or are the epubs all fucked up?

>READIUM

Someone please put it in the fucking OP.

not that I know of

There's the 40k battle bible, but I'd only really use that if you don't have the cards and books yourself.

DON'T BE CHARGED, BE THE ONE WHO CHARGES.

Technically this is true for every army in the game. With very few exceptions, it is always better to fire your pistols and charge rather than desperately rapid fire and hope you wipe. You may take overwatch shots, but realistically overwatch will kill maybe one model if you're unlucky. Then you get charge bonuses that will ensure your guys do better than your opponents, while also denying your opponent charge bonuses.

Be sure to take Priests. For 25 points you can give a 50 man conscript blob both FEARLESS, and the ability to RE-ROLL ALL TO HIT in melee. This will turn what should be a decent tarpit, into a tarpit that can evaporate dedicated assault units on the charge, and then tarpit the survivors for the entire remainder of the game, FOREVER.

Is it better to scout Dominions or outflank them? Scouting just seems like it's begging for them to get blown up first.

OP is a fucking nigger who is using bad links. Here's the better links that lead to .pdfs

>expecting people too dumb to find their own scans and pirated books to be smart enough to properly use an ereader

This is why you don't spoonfeed, morons. Also, the same thing without the comma. Generals didn't even have links a couple years ago, and before that we didn't even have generals until Veeky Forums was created and then quickly turned into namefag offtopic MySpace style circlejerking.

Outflank, but naked outflanks with no way to re-roll or guarantee a side are risky.

Yea, we don't actually have any way to do that iirc.

I did, but it was always for specialists rather than just Boyz. 55 points for front AV13 isn't bad.

Tankbustas, MegaNobz, Burnaz--all worked great.

>Still no proper version of Genestealer Codex

THIS MUST BE THE ORDO XENOS' WORK REEEEEE

you could buy it if you wanted it that bad and then upload the scans yourself

be the change you want to see in the world

>paying $32.99 for a codex for an army I'll never buy any models for

I'm Jewish this shit is insanity to me

>be the change you want to see in the world

Do you really want people to start murdering you idiots?

>Still asking for PDFs

Holy shit, you people need to realize the time of scanning books and making pdfs is dead for GW prime products. If someone were to upload the GSC ePub I would be more than happy to screenshot every page on my tablet and compile it into a PDF for you idiots, but someone needs to upload the ePub first. So faggots "hurrdurr escrubs r dum" need to wake up and stfu.

>rules database still only has ePub for newest stuff.

lol yup that was helpful.

I bought both deathwatch and genecult on principle because I've been banging on about how they needed to release these fucking armies for over a decade.

I doubt I'll ever play the cult because their rules rub me the wrong way, though.

>their rules rub me the wrong way, though.

Why though? I feel like they actually did a really good job of portraying how a cult would fight - they can infiltrate society and get some of the good stuff, but they're not able to get ahold of the REALLY good stuff like plasma guns, melta guns, specialized tank variants, hellhounds, etc., because the worlds they inhabit just don't have that stuff lying around for them to get to, and a IG regiment that DID have access to that would be under much more scrutiny (and therefore significantly more difficult to corrupt).

From what little proxy-testing I've been doing, it seems like they have a hard time with anti-tank though, and are somewhat vulnerable to tanks dedicated to fucking up infantry and artillery.

What do Genestealer Cults get as a Lord of War anyway?

They don't.

Ally in (a) Knight(s).

>Why though?
Unless you moderate yourself heavily, the detachment and cult ambush rules make games tilt hard one way or the other.

I'll have an army mainly just to paint and collect, but it's just not what I like playing with.

>BEEP BEEP
COMMIN' THROUGH HERETICS
>BEEP BEEP

I know there's stuff out there to make your own Space Marine chapter or IG regiment, but is there anything like that for making a Forge World? Because I want to try making one because all I have now is a color scheme and it'd be nice to have some fluff to go along with it.

What is your favorite way to play 40k?

Pick up casual games?
Competitive tournament style games?
Narrative campaign games?

I prefer narrative campaigns where the outcome of one game determines the next game.
It's so much fun when you are playing a scenario and the focus is on cinematic story telling.
Example: Outnumbered force has to make a break out escape against a large force. Also, one side is a defender and the other side must capture an objective or kill a specific character.

To me, that is the stuff that 40k is best at doing.

Would my Deathwing Terminators be a fair match up for my friend's Dark Eldar?

I think pure Ravenwing would be a bit much but a 75/25 DW/RW may be a more fun.

This is his first 1000pt game and he has a single raider with warriors then four or five venoms. I think his HQ is a Succubus with an Elite (Incubi or Wytches?) unit in one of the venoms, the rest are filled with more warriors. Then he has a unit of Scourges.

I am pretty sure he could win any Maelstrom mission since I won't be bringing any objective secured but I still want us to have a good fight.

Pick up game or narrative event with my circle of friends. They're all decent people so none of us ever have to deal with "that guy" shitty up the game for us.

I'm "casually competitive." As in, I keep up with tournaments, and general "power" listbuilding paradigms ("Rapid-moving objective-capping MSU with psyker support and the occasional "beater" to anchor your forces"), tactics and stuff, but I won't get *too* fussy over RAW minituae or my opponent taking too long to play a turn, etc.

Plus I'm building MSU Chaos Marines, and not "minimum Cultist tax to unlock Heldrakes & Obliterators" Chaos Marines, but "Black Legion Chaos Warband" Marines, so that's a sign I'm definitely on the crazy train.

I don't think it'd be too much of a problem. Dark Eldar have some pretty solid AP2 gear (I'd make it clear you're bringing terminators though), but I think 50-50 would be a little better. Even with the AP values fighting Terminators isn't terribly fun, and if you don't cheese out the Ravenwing they're a fun match for Dark Eldar.

The best advice I can give is to talk to him, though. Make a fun list first, then see what he's got. If he's bringing something that will be utterly destroyed by you, tone yours down and give him some pointers and (this is SUPER important) explain why. It'll make him a better player and you both better strategists, and most essentially allows a more fun time.

Good luck brother, The Emperor protects

If you sneeze on him, his army collapses. His only hope is that his dark lances break through your terminators because 2+ saves are rough against 4+ poison. A venom with 2 splinter canons will kill 1 terminator on average with 12 shots. Meanwhile 6 termies with storm bolters will glance it to death.

The scourges will likely do the most work. IF the succubus hits combat, she will kill 1 and then die on the back swing.

>IF the succubus hits combat, she will kill 1 and then die on the back swing.
only one? Even ignoring potential combat drugs, she's got 5 S4 AP2 swings on the charge

not to mention the AP2 klaives held by the incubi

>Meanwhile 6 termies with storm bolters will glance it to death.
bullshit

Hits on 3s, wounds on 4s, saves on 5+

5 attacks > 3 hits > 1.5 wounds > 1.x unsaved

Yea, botched that math, assumed 12 hits and forgot the 5++

Anyone have the rules for the genetsealer cults truck thing?

Oh, right on. I forgot the best you can hope for is hitting on 3's.

I guess she could challenge the power weapon out while the incubi get to work on the squad itself.

>"minimum Cultist tax to unlock Heldrakes & Obliterators"

Is the fact that people run units like Cultists and Gretchin really an issue when they're in the Troops section as a Troops choice?

They give you the option to take them as Troops in the first place.

Yeah I suppose I should get a better feel for what he has, I am just not familiar with Xenos Heresy.

I know Dark Eldar are "quick" so maybe a couple more Ravenwing so he doesn't just run from my terminators.

I think all of his venoms have 2 Splinter Cannons and at 1000pts I am only bringing ~12 or 13 terminators counting the HQ with a total of ~20 models counting the Ravenwing so it would be a pretty elite force.

I usually kit out the termis for shooting.

So what's up with W40k: EC? is it good ? is it terrible? Does it have eldar ass?

Just grabbed a bunch of necromunda models off ebay. Trying to decide how to get them onto the tabletop in a game. I'm thinking a hive city themed renegades and heretics might work best

I've heard its pretty bad with a bunch of problems.
Its just a shitty 3rd person shooter with a 40k skin.

>I'm thinking a hive city themed renegades and heretics might work best

I'm thinking that is a great idea, user.
Definitely do it, good haul.
Price tag?

1490/1500

Assassinorum Execution Force (570)

Hellrain Brigade 410 x 2

Commissar
Command Squad with Voxcaster
Scion Squad (10 men) with Vox Caster and 2 Meltaguns
Taurox Prime with Autocannon/Missile, Hunter Killer, Smoke, camo, pintle storm bolter.

Aegis with Quadgun. 100

>Price tag?
$200 for 75 models

She has a 6/4++ in melee, so the PW doesn't matter. It's the S4 attacks that will kill her.

2 Splinter Canons is 12 shots, 8 hits, 4 wounds, .8 unsaved wounds.

His best bet is Dark Lances, which will likely be from the Scourges, who should arguably be kitted with Haywires for most games.

Would any of you use this thing in a game?
Transporting a pair of ironclads and twenty vanguards would be pretty great

I don't like putting many eggs in one expensive basket.

I'm very afraid of bringing such a hefty unit. 700 pts is a ton of dudes you could have brought instead

>hard time with anti-tank though
good to know
This gives me reason to buy more demolishers and hell hounds

Have you tried: buying the Codex?

>I don't like putting many eggs in one expensive basket.
That thing is never going to die if your opponent isn't packing considerable amounts of D.

>gunline army having a problem getting charged and beaten too fast

i find this happens rarely, but then i just had a game where my daemon prince ran amok in the tau lines. hell even my flamers of tzeentch beat up some terrified firewarriors in combat. anyway the way to beat fighting armies (or at least me and my chaos daemons) is to use a lot of shooting and instant death where you can

The problem, as I see it, with putting all of your points into something like this isn't that it might die and be wasted, but that all of your points are concentrated in one spot on the board. You want to be able to do shit all over. Then again I fill the board with blobs of units, so I'm inclined to think that way to begin with.

What's your army's Distraction Carnifex?

Leviathan dreadnought

more guardsmen

Ha, I was watching that same lot until I realized, I'm poor. Nice grab.

You'll be ready for Necromunda 2.0 when it comes out.

Kayvaan Shrike.

>when it comes out
don't play with my feelings

Can't wait to find out Necromunda 2.0 = Age of Sigmar Gangs: Gang Wars in the Mortal Realms, a new 1/6th scale action figure game.

The conscript blob.

The whole army?

>What's your army's Distraction Carnifex?
Ravenwing Support Squadron

Sure it can overwatch with other units in its 24" bubble and has seven heavy bolters.
Sure it is 245pts
But it has a 2+ Rerollable Jink, Strafing Run and Scout.

Everyone wastes an impressive amount of fire on it every time.

Meanwhile my Bikers are moving 36" by the end of the first turn.

I'd settle for Inquisitor coming back. 54mm was such a fun scale to convert and paint.

GSC First Curse.

People are scurred and try to melt it off the board after it obliterates something when it can just run away and gets models back.

It's kind of beautiful

I recently installed Space Marine again and it's still the superior game

What exactly are you using them to distract from?

Captain Valentine(My Venerable Deredeo). The moment he eats 2 tanks on turn 1, people immediately start dedicating 100% of their fire to him. Usually I deploy him right behind some good old BLOS, so he can selectively expose himself only to what he needs to destroy, and then harass another unit with his missiles that is completely out of LOS. So that kind of mitigates his use as a DISTRACTION CARNIFEX.

Also Lias Issodon and his clan of 10 honour guard and 20 sternguard veterans outflanking together. The honour guard especially, since a 10-man squad with Artificer Armour and all Power Weapons can just murder everything if they're ignored, and yet since Lias Issodon hands them shrouded, they can easily just snag a 2+ cover save on something.

not investing in a one week meme, like the other ones theyve been coming out with.
