>Generally pretty light on character restrictions as long as the players take their concepts seriously and aren't just doing it for magical realm or edge.
>Usually this works OK...
>Every once in awhile though, I'll get those groups where EVERY SINGLE PLAYER is playing some kind of cutsey anime-girl character, no matter how out-of-place it is for the setting. "Yeah, she's a 15 year old sorceress who doesn't understand her powers, tee-hee."
>The players will then proceed to swear up and down at me that they're not doing it for fetish reasons and that they seriously want to explore the character concept or "challenge their writing skills".
>I repeat, it's not just one autist. Every 4 or 5 games I'll get ENTIRE PARTIES like this.

One character was immune to regular weapons at first, until we agreed to change that.

You got the other vampires to do a blood hunt on him, right?

Didn't have the chance. Being roll20 randos, most of them flaked every game after that with the exception of this guy and some fucktard that entered combat with hospital staff when he couldn't swat a fly without breaking his arm and then got angry that he lost combat.

Stop playing Pathfinder, maybe?

That's too bad... but I know your pain. I tried getting into a Vtm game recently and the GM flaked on us

I know Pathfinder is Magical Realm General, but this was DnD 5e, specifically to get away from that shit (and 5e is easier to run online because less math/mechanics slowing the sessions down).

Didn't work, unfortunately.

Have you posted this before? I am getting the surreal feeling that I've read this post before

Aside from calling Pathfinder "Magical Realm General", no.

Maybe a lot of stories come from bumfuck nowhere and my wires are crossed

have you considered that you're just fucking retarded?

if you're the gm, you control who gets in. Tell them they need to write out their basic character concept in their application.

How this isn't obvious I don't know. I've played in many games where the GM is just like you, completely unaware of the markings of a shit player. Then the game gets ruined because he lets some sperg playing an evil half dragon warlock faggot join the otherwise standard race hero party

Have you considered that I do throw them out?

Still doesn't stop the applications from being any less disappointing.

Other GM here to dissprove that that will stop them.

I had a horror campaign set up where the requirements were "normal human characters" and the applications would come in with a murderous ex-navy seal, a serial killer doctor, a ghost whisperer and a hobo with top connections to international mafia with no way or reason to be in the same continent where the game took place.

Worst of all was the guy pitching me a Hunter that was a hobo and knew swedish ninjutsu and violated chargen to start with bonus xp gain.

Gotta love entitled shits who complain about GMs who try to accommodate the players instead of, you know, talking to the players themselves or simply finding another game. Entitlement at it's finest.

Not saying it's always a good idea, but the blame is far more on the players than the GM. Either run a game yourself or STFU about how someone else runs theirs.

You are bullshitting or dramatizing, or are doing something that causes this to happen to you.

I GM on Roll20 too. In fact, I was recruiting people for a campaign like last month. I got around a dozen applications in a couple days and like three of them were bad. I can ss the recruitment lfg if you think I'm lying for whatever reason.

None of them were some shitty animu girl or anything like that. You are doing something wrong. Worst I got was a couple edgelords

What fucking system are you playing? That sounds like the problem for you.

normal human characters is also not exactly specific. To some retard, one of those may be "normal human characters"

Get fucked anime poster, I run games more than I play in them. Too many garbage GMs, would rather run the game than waste my time

Letting shit players in is the GM's fault. 100%. If you guys weren't autistic you could read into a shitty player's application and discern that they're a shitty player.

Also, if a GM isn't voice interviewing potential players then it's 100% their fault too. I always set up a skype interview with the applicants I like, talk to them for like 10 mins and you can tell if they're a functioning human being or not

The words of someone who obviously doesn't actually play any games. Although, that's most of Veeky Forums, isn't it?

2/10, got me to reply. Go wave your e-peen in some other topic now, please.

I do find myself agreeing with this dude to some degree

I have to point out that anecdotal experience is not definite proof.

>You posted an anime picture! That means everything you said is wrong and has no merit! I will continue to be super salty because GMs don't give me everything I want all the time and make up stories about how I'm perfect at it and never dissapoint anyone ever! Anime-poster is wrong!!!

This damage-control, holy shit dude. It's an anonymous board.

Semi-related but should I feel bad for always playing female characters on Roll20 when I'm a dude? I'm still relatively new to tabletop but so far, all of my characters have been female. You could describe them as waifus, really, but I'd relate more and feel more toward a character I thought was cute/cool/good etc.
Normally this wouldn't bug me so much, it's just the fact that a lot of our other players also play females. This results in a pretty weird gender imbalance in the party. I just feel bad for the GM, really. Thankfully I've got some male PC ideas down the pipeline, so that remedies the situation somewhat, but I just know I'll eventually make another female PC.

I'm making a mountain out of a mole hill, aren't I? Sometimes I worry too much about my GM.

Do you really think I'm just talking out my ass?

I run two games on roll20 atm and I play in another. Have an IRL group that is very shakey due to us living a bit aways from each other but we get together when we can.

Here are applicants from an LMoP campaign I was going to run, there are some more above but I only have so much screen space.

This LFG was open for like, four days or so (I've postponed the lfg because I'm going to be moving soon, and I don't really want to run three games at once). All those applicants were pretty solid, I couldn't tell if "Nasty Nate" was cool or not though. I interviewed a couple of them and they probably would have been my players if others weren't better.

Like I said, its the GMs fault. Step ya game up lad

It was just an insult, one that obviously worked since you got so triggered

>Down the pipeline.

Yeah... this is pretty much everyone who ever plays female characters in my games. They always say they'll play a male character "next time". I can't really take this claim seriously anymore, so I've just started not accepting female-character applications after a certain gender-balance is reached in the game. People playing male characters are FAR more likely to get into my games by sheer virtue of having less competition.

As long as your character doesn't make anyone uncomfortable at the table and it doesn't detract from the fun of the game, it's alright.

However, consider this: you might not notice when you make someone uncomfortable. Remember to play it safe. Better safe than sorry.

It's less of anecdotal experience and more of a microcosm of what is wrong with the roll20 crowd. You say "this is not allowed" and then they will try it anyways. Things like that keep happening in every game I play or join, much to everyone's frustration.

nWoD. Your shitposting aside, it is the problem. WoD is known to attract assholes like flies, but I try anyways.

>normal human characters is also not exactly specific
It is incredibly specific, unless you are a retard that need to be told "no vampire/hunter/werewolf/mage/promethean/changeling/mummy/demon characters and everything that goes along with them".

That would also include "no characters that I'll need to ask a hundred questions to understand how the fuck they can function."

>When was the last time something your players did caused you to be
>angry
Five or so years ago, this ass hat of a guy in the first game I ever GMed. He was playing a druid. The party is walking down a set of stairs in total darkness, and I ask each player if they touch the wall or the guard rail. So when I ask, this guy says "I turn into a hawk". Okay. So then the people who were not holding the rail get teleported to another room. I say, "you, you, and you", including this druid. He then holds up his hand in real life and yells "but I had my hand on the rail!" Probably just because this guy was such a pain in the ass nonstop, that was the moment where I lost my temper and snapped at him. I've actually only lost my cool maybe three times in the past six years, I'm usually very calm, and two of them were at this guy. After that game I never played with him again, so no more trouble.

>disappointed
Every time I start a new campaign, and I get five setting appropriate character portraits, and one faggy anime picture. Same girl every time, and it never stops making me feel a quiet sort of sadness. Like someone bringing a ping pong paddle to a basketball game.

>triggered
I've never suffered any kind of traumatic event, and I don't feel the need to project imagined suffering or discrimination onto myself to feel like my life has meaning, so I don't get triggered.

I'm pretty sure that it's still anecdotal evidence. I played in quite a few different games on roll20 and didn't encounter that problem: in my experience, there were lots of people accepting of the GM's restrictions on character creation.

Guess it depends on the system. Most WoD and Dark Heresy games I've played/run had some variation of an asshole refusing to follow restrictions or just making something that couldn't work in any way. The majority of people I've played with also have similar stories.

What games have you been joining up, because I think it's time I made a jump?

>should I feel bad for always playing female characters on Roll20 when I'm a dude?

You should feel bad if it becomes creepy. Otherwise, it doesn't really matter. I've known guys who play a lot of female characters, or exclusively female characters. Some of them are skeevy weirdos, and others are, at least outwardly, perfectly normal and pleasant.

>triggered
Not me, but once our DH GM had a blackout and called a five minute break after the techie completely straight-faced went to the Mechanicus to ask about something that went through customs "because Mechanicus control customs throughout the Imperium." He sounded like someone just punched him in the mouth after hearing that.

Mutants & Masterminds, GURPS, 5e and Das Schwarze Auge (the dark eye)

It might come in to the equation that I'm europoor

Shitposter here, I was not shit posting

I don't know wod at all so maybe normal human is specific. Though honestly, if you're playing a system known for its shitty players that also has a bunch of retarded shit as PC options, I gotta ask what the fuck are you expecting?

I dont run a pathfinder campaign and say "no munchkins no powergamers", thats who the fucking system is for. I dont start a 5e campaign and say "no first time morons who are playing because they saw an episode of critical role"

Well, every splat is intended to be played by itself. Still, it surprises me that retards will try to do something stupid like bring a werewolf in a vampire game, the equivelant of bringing a death mech in a game about being potato farmers.

And on the subject, the ones that apply to random games, going "Hey, My First Time Playing D&D !! I Want To Play A Ranger :)" and the game isn't even in the D&D category, deserve crucifixion.

>same girl every time
You mean same girl as in the same person doing it? If so, why are you still playing with her
If you meant the same anime character brought forward by different people, would you share the picture? Not even a weeb, just want to see if I encountered it as well

Because he has some points, whether or not they apply to this is far less clear.
Sounds like someone who has never run a game, and has had few GMs.
That you are concerned about it goes a long way to showing you have enough self-awareness to not be one of those guys. Just make a good character that happens to be female, and do good.

I had that issue a few times on roll20 in my friend's game, but we simply voted such people out.

>why are you still playing with her
She's the girlfriend of another player.

My condolences. This is why I never ever invite couples in the first place. I don't know why this seems to be a common law but one of them is always a That Guy.

This makes me glad that my buddies do not have gfs, as bad as it sounds to say

Got two for you.
First is IC
>Make small town for a two session quest hub
>three PCs end up joining during the time we're in the town
>one of my pcs, we'll call him B, starts giving the only bartender in the shit
>ends up getting ejected from the bar
>party is getting ready to leave town
>B says "I go to the bar"
>oh boy
>Holds up the bartender for all of his alcohol
>ends up shooting the bartender
>small town so no real guard or constable
>ends up burning down the bar
Oh, and he was lawful good.

In the town*

That guy sounds like a tosser

It's really annoying because he's the best RPer in the group besides these side things and he's also the most punctual by far

>Most people tend to play female characters
>The few men that are made are usually some bishie cute guy

>mfw I always make the burly protective type
>mfw that's apparently "generic."

The huge fictional tits are nice, though.

>he's the best RPer in the group

>Breaks character
>is a good RPer
Choose one and only one

If you disagree with this post, you are part of the problem.

Are you still playing damage control? Look, I don't know if you're too retarded to realize this, but you basically flatout stated you replied for no reason other than to "trigger" people, which means you basically replied with no intention except trolling. Then when you get called out, every other single thing you've posted has been "NUH-UH! I WAS ONLY PRETENDING TO BE RETARDED!"

It's time to get off the internet for awhile. By tomorrow nobody will even remember who you are, not that they did in the first place considering this is an anonymous image board for fucks sake. But goddamn, 3 hours later and you're still trolling.

But he's making some good points, albeit in a fairly hostile manner

Same situation, though I'd never admit that in front of them. Those inseparable couples are just the worst

>running Eclipse Phase
>player picks a phobia as a drawback
>kangaroos
>just kangaroos, not even anything related
>tell him to change because kangaroos are almost nonexistent in the setting
>changes it to sharks

The group had to burned afterwards

>all but one player have migrated to Discord from Skype
>last player finally gets on it as well so we start using it for voicechat instead
>halfway through session player becomes detached from the game
>Discord shows him playing vidya

I don't know if I was more disappointed in them or my GMing

I can't understand a thing. What happened?

My whole team is mourning over Trump's win and they don't want to play for a while. This is the first time I've been annoyed by them.

To be fair the ghost whisper sounds like it'd be interesting in a horror setting assuming the player isn't doing it for some metagame purpose.

I may count as That GM for this. In a Skype game with three people, me included, our sessions are normally on Thursday. 2/3 of us didn't feel like playing that day in large part because of the election. The third person voted for Trump and was annoyed by that, but had other stuff going on that made it a good idea to take this week off anyway.

Id be in mourning too if a man who wanted to illegalize hurting peoples feelings made it into office.

no but rosie o doneel is a total bitch dude

Who cares about the first amendment? Half the country only gives a shit about the second. They won't mind Trump "opening up" libel laws so long as they get to keep their guns.

qq

what if i fuck my gun in public whilst whispering "Felicia we gonna have a baby" and then kill my superior officer followed by myself in a bathroom? Is that protected under the 1.5th ammendment?

Players blumpled fucked their way into a Tech controlled hospital to rescue a fuck up mage. Players get angry when they get rightfully caught. Afterwards players(now GM) fuck over the GM(now player) in a different game with NPC bullshit.

I feel honored to see that. Last time I saw someone use qq was in a starcraft game ~2.5 years ago. Rare.

>Running a game that I put together by hand over a summer
>About space combat, players build their own ships and then become mercenaries
>Have a boss character giving them missions
>First mission gets hairy after players decide to board enemy's ship instead of shoot it because they needed to hold it hostage
>Second mission involves them getting betrayed
>Planetside, told to do shock and awe over a city
> Escorted by a group that turns on them eventually
>Two players manage incredible comeback, one group shot down
>Gunfight occurs on the ground

>Other group goes home to report that they need search and rescue
>After they were told to go back, one player immediately starts walking back to the ship
>Other one starts arguing that they shouldn't be going back for these two
>Boss character starts saying that they don't have the resources for a real rescue mission other than those two
>Player spergs out and shoots the guy
>Starts yelling OOC
>Have security that I mentioned was in the room like 20 times shoot him to death
>Player starts insisting he, as in the real life player, could survive multiple rifle calibre shots to the back from under 2m
>Never play that game again

It still had kinks and I was never really able to fix them because THEY NEVER FUCKING CAME UP

I love that about discord, nothing like trying to talk dirty with your gf and you see she is playing Hearthstone.

Maybe he thought you meant .22lr rounds? You could probably survive 5-6 of those in your back.

Maybe? I told him what calibre they were. Also he specified he could take .50cal. Like the player himself. He did get stabbed that one time but that was in the hand so I don't think it counts. That guy's a legend in general.

Bump for more stories!

...

It is bound to happen on sites like Rolld20. Randoms will random, just filter them out. or run a random campaign if you feel like it
Also, maybe when they get their snowflakey eyes on a game they spread the word to their snowflake friends which will come at you in pack, which would explain why you get whole partyfuls of them at a time.

You sound unreasonably mad, stupidly aggressive, and to top it all, an asshole.

You throw out assumptions and keep bragging and sperging without contributing in any meaningful way besides "Your problems are 100% your fault, I know it because I'm perfect and thus don't have these problems ever".

Please be so kind to pick up your meaningless sperg, shove it back in whatever hole you shat it out of, and find a less cancerous way to vent off your frustration. You could pick up a hobby, maybe you could try gaming, I dunno.

Also you probably don't get shitty players because your games are too bad even for the shitty players.

Isn't yours anecdotal evidence too, though?

Miss session 0 and 1 despite giving them 6 weeks of notice beforehand, without a reason, then showing up on session 2 with a half finished sheet.

Maybe don't consider gender next time. Write the backstory and plan the character and then flip a coin. The integrity or believability of the character should be in no way influenced by the gender.

You sound like Matt Ward.

Just accept that most online players are that way and join in the repressed sexual tension yourself.
The tension is what makes it fun.
Who's going to make that slow and steady descent into the dark pit everyone has on their minds?
Will they do it well?

Some of my best games were like that.

Not having that one game where the whole party us all female and it subconsciously breaks down into Meguca

Some characters this works on, others it's a little harder. Like I made a huge guy who fights with a two handed sword and while I could definitely play him as a woman it'd just feel less easy to present him as a kind of jaded Landsknecht.

In most settings it's not a problem I guess. Maybe I should try it next time and just go for it.

>he could take .50cal
>multiple .50cal rounds to his back
Nigga would be cut in half.

was he a marine? i could understand a starcraft marine taking some .50 to his back and surviving

>"Yeah, she's a 15 year old sorceress who doesn't understand her powers, tee-hee."
The idea of a young Sorcerer/ess not really knowing why they can magic seems like a pretty natural character.
But if you're also forcing some anime trope chuunibyou shit...yeah, I can see how that would wear out FAST.

I'm greatly disappointed by a friend-of-a-friend who makes the virtually the exact same character in every campaign. Same background, same skills (to a point), often even the same NAME. The three times I've seen him attempt to do a different type of character they swerved back into it after three sessions.
The only reason I or the other GM our group cycles through haven't tossed him is because he's sort of a package deal with his brother, who is a great guy who we enjoy playing with.

I feel ya user. I've been away from my best internet friends ever since the election because all they want to do is mope and post "enlightening" articles about it. Suddenly everyone is a politician and has white hot opinions about it, and all I want to do is talk about games and pretend to be an elf.

>Make a fantasy setting that's supposed to take place thousands of years after a big Sci-Fi war
>Give the party a old war robot companion to repair and serve as a live to pre-war stuff
>Plan to sprinkle bits and pieces of lost technology throughout the game
>The second the cleric/party leader realizes that the robot companion is non-magical he immediately shits on the idea of there being Sci-Fi tech in a fantasy world
>Refuse to abandon a major aspect of the setting after one player bitches, but try to down play it a bit.
>Try to balance old technology with new magic
>Still complains that some of these ancient relics are powered by solar reactors instead of magic

You're that guy who put bestiality in his game, that everyone avoids like the plague on Game Finder.

I... what? Pretty sure you got the wrong guy.

Seriously though, what?

Veeky Forums is such a toxic fucking board and you are why.

The retard that uses WoD but forces people to play mortals. I see you advertising your shitty game all the time, even fell for it a long time ago, but I'm wise to you and your disgusting fetishes now, ace.

He wants the dick, you need to make him addicted to your cock user it's the only way.

Dissapoint you I will, because I'm not using the gamefinder, never did and never will. Last time I played with other fa/tg/uys, I wanted to puke my guts out. And that was ages ago. Sounds shit though, senpai. Tell him he gobbles dicks.

Who the hell calls people "ace?" What are you, 70?

Cool down sport, you're hotter then the gams on Joan Crawford.

I knew a guy who did that as well. Tried to create the exact same character through three Pathfinder games, a pirate campaign, a Rogue Trader game, one Barbarians of Lemuria game, and a 1930s pulp treasure hunting adventure.

Honestly, he was better than the guys who create something different every game and it's always so fucking retarded you can't even comprehend it.

This has happened to me every. single. god. damn. time I've dm'ed. Doesn't matter if it's a roll20 game, pbp, or real life. My one rule is "PHB races only"... and yet, without fail, i have someone who wants to be a "half demon, dragon, fairy sprite" anime magical girl who's a 1000 years old.

>no other players, the rest scattered to the four winds
>running a game for one person
>it's usually pretty fun, though
>current game
>character has joined team of NPCs mostly to keep the challenge from being lethal
>after a job
>"So, what do we do now?"
I mean, you can do whatever, your team doesn't have any jobs pending.
>moment of pause
>"Let's go troll the internet!"

I mean, it was a good chance to roleplay and expand on the NPCs his character was working with, and I threaded a job that works into the character's backstory into it, but seriously? You could have just said, "Let's go get food, see if we don't run into anything on the way," I could've worked with that just a bit better, and you could've gotten some combat, which you sometimes complain about the lack of, out of it.

>Running a TTRPG for one person

Seriously, just play some Magic, Stratego, even Chess for Christ's sake.
Unless it's a ploy to get sex with someone, playing a TTRPG with one person is just...sad.

It's LESS sad than the people here who theorycraft up their imaginary gaming experiences, but sad nonetheless.

>playing a TTRPG with one person is just...sad.
I disagree user. I usually run one on one sessions for players new to the hobby that are joining a group of experienced players. It's lacking sure, but I wouldn't call it sad.

>Unless it's a ploy to get sex with someone
Also valid.

>working on a setting for personal use
>medium fantasy, has four races that are very different from eachother, no D&D races (not even humans), arcane magic doesn't exist
>friend reads through notes while we're hanging out
>"huh this is pretty cool, you should set our next campaign in it"
>agree, ask my other five players, make sure to tell properly describe the setting and the races/classes available
>they all say it sounds cool, they're excited
>get really excited, never thought I'd actually use my setting for a real game
>everyone except the first guy shows up with a character already made
>dragonborn sorceror, gnome illusionspam bard, human dex-cheese fighter, human minmaxed wizard, elf warlock
>jesusfuck.png
>tell the group that they agreed to my setting rules and to do a session 0
>they start bitching and moaning
>relent and just jump into running a pre-written module
>don't really feel like going back to working on my setting anymore

Life is suffering, and players are retarded.
>inb4 just find another group lol
They're my friends, and I've already looked extensively for another group that isn't a bunch of autists and neckbeards.

I played a hobo once. He also happened to be an incredibly powerful warlock and was insane.

Not in the "haha, so le wacky xD" sense, more being forgetful, occasionally having conversations with no one in particular, and acting off like he doesn't see/hear quite the same things the rest of the party does.

Probably the most "random" thing I did was buying a dead 3-legged rabbit just because(and the DM chuckled and later ruled it was an unlucky rabbit since the lucky foot was gone, and it was cursed in some way). Came in handy later when I stuffed it in some gears to sabotage a gate we needed to stay open(the curse made it extremely difficult to destroy, the stuffing it in the gears didn't damage it).

That was a fun game.

I'd like to have more players, but of the players I had in high school:

>One left to join the coast guard.

>One went home, out of state, because the police found a lot of stolen prescription meds in his car.

>One dropped off the map, and the next time anyone heard anything from him, he was driving up to New England with two garbage bags of shrooms in his car trunk.

>One went to live with his sister and is currently bouncing between shitty retail/food service jobs.

>One's still in town, but works at the hospital doing a combination of janitorial and IT.

>The last one, the one I run for, lives out of state. He works at night, and needs something to do on nights that he's not working, so he doesn't just go back to sleep, so he can keep his work schedule on track. We both like TTRPG, and I'd cemented myself as the forever DM of our group before everyone disappeared.
