There are a surprising amount of people out there who only want to play the latest-greatest thing and disdain "old & busted" shit. Teenagers especially are prone to this.

Just the other day on anews site that was talking about DnD's 5e new book of monsters and showing some beholders, a comment from some guy saying that creatures like that were why he stopped playing dnd, he preferred when things were better on the games he played when he was younger.
