I went out and got a tarot deck for my campaign. How do I use it?
I'm the GM

Pretty simple.
>learn what the cards' meanings/associations
>draw a few before campaign planning
>use results to make campaign outline

Also, check out Ravenloft's tarokka deck. It's not literally tarot, but the idea's the same.

Is there a girl in the group?

If so, use it to get sex.

Can you describe the sequence of events you believe would lead to sex? I'm curious to see what your plan is.

It becomes the Deck of Many Things

well, if we go in reversed chronological order, then immediately before sex there should be heavy petting

And before that?

>Right, right, and before heavy petting, the handholding and the kissing.
And before the hand holding and the kissing, the lingering eye contact and the discussion of interest, consent, and communicable diseases.

And before that?

>Stack the deck before the players arrive
>"Hey guys, I'm going to read your fortunes before the game starts! Sounds fun doesn't it!"
>Player 1 (dude) is "predicted" he'll get great riches
>Player 2 (dude) is "predicted" he'll meet the love of his life
>Player 3 (dude) is "predicted" that he'll be betrayed
>Player 4 (girl) is "predicted" that she has to have sex with OP or she'll die.
>"haha, oh wow how wierd. Whatever it's not real anyway, let's play!"
>During game: P1 finds a shitload of valuable loot
>"haha, the cards were right! lol jk it's probably a coincidence"
>P2 meets a hot NPC who's devoted to him and loves him
>"wut, this is getting spooky..."
>P3 is betrayed by a bro NPC.
>"omg wtf is happening?!"

The rest, as they say, is history.

Well, that's... a plan.

Here's the thing though. Would you really want to sleep with someone stupid enough to fall for that trick?

The Tarot absorbs ambient fate energies from you the more you use it. It's important you use it daily to instill within in it your essence before it can become a reliable sooth-saying device.

Never use on the same question more than once, though. Spite the Tarot and it spites back.

damn son
he's looking for sex, not a relationship.

Watch rollplay court of swords. The GM uses tarrot cards as a major point of the setting.

>he's looking for sex, not a relationship.

I'm aware. It's just that the plan is so spaghetti-tier that anyone able to not only endure it but actually be fooled by it will be so stupid that sex, while it might occur, will probably be a disaster. We're talking toothy blowjobs, poor positioning, limited willingness to try new things and a complete lack of skill at what she does know...

In short, you fish with crappy bait, you catch crappy fish.

>Watch rollplay
Can I not?

I love the picture and i will build my warlock based on it one day.

I... assume so?

If you don't want to follow my advice, sure.

My favorite GM uses a Tarot Deck as a sort of "Inspiration". He hands out a Tarot Card to everyone at the start of session, and we can use it to influence the game based on our interpretation of the card.

Sex with a retard is statutory rape if you're not also retarded.

Which you'd have to be to try a plan like that, so go for it OP.

You're missing the point, man - the plan is so spaghetti-tier that anybody who falls on it will not do so because they were outsmarted but rather because they want to fall for it.

So the best case scenario is that you basically ask a girl to have sex with you... or she'll die... and you're going to tell her this at game... in front of 3 other guys...

And your BEST case scenario is that she wanted to bang ANYWAY and thought that your stuttering display and card trick was cute (and not, say, so hideously autistic that any pants-feels she once had vanish instantly)...

Have I got that right?

Link?

Tarot reader here. This guy knows just enough to spout bullshit with confidence.

Disclaimer: regardless of my or your personal feelings about the legitimacy of tarot, for the sake of simplicity, I'm just going to talk as though it's 100% legit.

When doing a reading, the cards are affected by the subconscious of the client to arrange into the order most befitting their circumstances. Generally when I do a reading, I tell the client to focus on the question they want to ask or the situation they want to get clarity on. The more focused and specific they are, the more accurate the reading, and the less focused, the more vague it will be because it will just be a hodge-podge of everything going on in their subconscious.

You don't need to use the cards daily, just use them when you have a use for them. There's no point in doing a reading when you have nothing to read. However it's not a bad idea to occasionally "clean" them by ordering the cards. If you find your readings becoming less reliable over time, this could fix the issue.

Nothing bad will happen to you if you ask the same question twice, you just won't get a very accurate reading. Generally don't ask the same question twice to the same deck on the same day. If the answer you got wasn't clear enough for you, try a different deck or wait until tomorrow to ask again. Keep in mind though that tarot is very "in the moment" and really only reflects the situation as it currently stands. The future and all situations are in flux though, and circumstances can change. Even the act of getting a reading can change the situation you are reading on. For example, The Tower indicates an unforeseen catastrophe, but if you start gathering resources as a result of getting the reading, the worst outcomes predicted in the reading might not come to pass. The act of doing the reading itself can alter coming events.

As far as using the cards for your campaign, this user has a good idea. (cont.)

Sine Requie uses it in place of dice rolls

If your deck didn't come with a booklet, here's a few things to get you started.

>Swords = intellect, communication, and speed
>Cups = creativity, emotion, love, and friendship
>Wands = will, passion, and sex
>Pentacles/disks = money, material things

>Aces = new beginnings
>Twos = choices
>Threes = hard work
>Fours = stability
>Fives = conflict
>Sixes = relationships
>Sevens = stagnation, indecision
>Eights = progress, things happening
>Nines = abundance; for better (nine of cups) or worse (nine of swords)
>Tens = completion, endings, wholeness

Court cards (Kings, queens, etc) often represent people with specific personality traits.

The major arcana (the 22 cards numbered with Roman numerals) each have a broad range of meanings (entire books have been written on interpreting single major arcana cards) depending on where they appear in a spread and what cards are around them, but in general they usually deal with "big picture" things and forces like luck and fate that we have little control over (so an abundance of major arcana cards in a spread means you have little control over the situation and are mostly just along for the ride). In terms of campaign planning though, the major arcana can each be a source of ideas.

No correlation between brains and the warmth of their wet, quivering puss... um ...heart.

If that was all that was required, go fuck a roast beef sandwich.

A pie.

People be telling you spiritual meaning and such of the cards like how you should have it in a corner or your house if you aren't using it and such. Yea fuck that. Realistically OP you are just using it for the sake of the game right? So without treating you like a spiritual retard I'll tell you how to do a Tarot reading without the retarded /x/ crap.

1. Each card have a different meaning, often just a list of possible words. The reason they don't have a direct meaning is because you (the Tarot reader) should be making up a story or a connection between those words. It is just for fun and don't mean jack shit outside of /x/. It is like the daily horoscope in the newspaper or image related. It is just for fucking fun and making up bullshit that could possibly be true is part of that fun.
2. Now you learn the ever so deep meaning of the Tarot cards (that it is just a fucking game bro) now you need to know the rules of the game. Just like people will start asking questions if you tell them pawns on chess can move backwards then afterwards they play a real game with the real rules, yea you would be fucking up. Knowing the general meaning of the cards will help a ton. The general idea though is that there is no bad cards (Tower being the closest to a bad card and what people generally think Death means) so every reading (beside your tabletop game maybe) should be something positive in the end. You should make the people feel good about themselves. Ever seen a bad horoscope in the newspaper? There is a reason for that, people don't like feeling like shit.
3. Reverse cards is a thing and different card patterns is a thing. I highly recommend ignoring reverse for your game (basically double every card in terms of possible meanings) and sticking to the simple past, present and future 3 card pattern. No need to make a tower of cards just for what should be a quick reading.

Boom, that all you NEED to know.

Let me share with you two pieces of wisdom, one was handed to me by old master: if it sounds stupid but it works, it's not really stupid.
The second comes from hivemind of Veeky Forums and has always been great help in times of indecisiveness. DO IT FAGGOT!

Oh user, you don't stupid tricks to get laid, just tell her the truth: your mother was the goddess of love and your children live a thousand years

You have the communicable disease discussion before lingering eye contact? Perv.

>if it sounds stupid but it works, it's not really stupid

You can't just apply that to everything that sounds stupid and pretend it will work. It has to actually work first.

Generally, it's during the lingering eye contact step.

Seriously, modern hookups are weird. Fun, but weird.

>that it is just a fucking game

Indeed

This
It's time.

>Let me share with you two pieces of wisdom

Oh boy. Wisdom on Veeky Forums.

So here's another bit of wisdom. Sex with a competent person is like playing a co-op video game with someone of equal skill.

Sex with an idiot is like an escort mission.

I completely regret making this post.

Look on the bright side. At least you didn't actually do it.

Right?

If you're running Anima, use the High Arcana to determine what invocation an enemy summoner has.
>their faces when you explain just what The World Reversed does, and how long it fucking lasts.
It makes everyone automatically fail every roll they make, in a mile plus another mile for every 10 the summoner passes the summon check by, for a minute(20 combat turns) plus another minute for every 10 they pass the summon check by.
This is quite devastating.
And hilarious.

Riiiiight?

Magician here, I have a technical question. Do you use 2deep typology systems like the Enneagram to assist you with the cold reading? I feel like it's got a lot of potential, but I don't do much mentalism, so I've never really had a chance to exploit it.

>wow, things the cards said would happen are happening in the DM's fantasy world!

Can confirm that party getting a deck of many things at the very end of a campaign is a great way to end everything.

Random encounter table. Not just enemies, but situations.

Make 5 escalating encounters for each card, so you have something in case a card is drawn more than once.

kabump

OP here, I can't believe this thread is still alive
Fuck off

lol maybe

Cool thanks. My booklet never made the whole bit about each number within a suit having a specific meaning clear, that's really useful for helping me remember stuff.

That's fucking awesome. Maybe I can have an NPC caster who does that. Do you have a link to the table or something? How would it convert to 5e?

Hey, this is a really good idea too.

>introduce new major villain
>she uses a tarot deck to cast her spells
>summons minions/situations by drawing from the minor arcana
>uses the major arcana to cast major, gigantic spells
Thoughts?
