What is the best Space Marine chapter and why is it the Ultramarines?

What is the best Space Marine chapter and why is it the Ultramarines?

anyone

Ultramarine
>excel at ...nothing
>weakness, surprise betrayal

The Hanged

I loved them when they were just Space Romans

now... well even I was insulted with the spiritual liege shit and I have an ultramarines army

If everyone didn't play marines, I might have started off with Ultramarines. I like the Roman aesthetic.
Of course, then i heard about the spiritual liege madness.
>best chapter
>can't even follow the codex as good as the Hammers of Dorn
Ultramarines ite domum.

Started with the Assault on Blackreach kit, fell in love with the Roman asthetic, didn't fall in love with the spiritual liege fluff.

They're a great starter army, and I highly recommend them to beginners, right next to Imperial Fists.

...

You mean Salamanders.

That's not how you spell Grey Knights.

I like Most looks of all chapters with wite scars the least, and my army has every squad for every chapter . in game this looks weird cuz i got rainbow of colours on table and autistc are raging about aremy colour consistency ,its fun to watch

This

Other acceptable answers: Exorcists, Death Spectres, Carcharodons

...

>why is it the Ultramarines?
Because Priestley said so, and he pretty much invented 40k.

>What is the best Space Marine chapter and why is it the Imperial Fists?
FTFY

They were the best in the Great Crusade, so it should be no surprise that they're the best now.

FOR THOSE WE CHERISH, WE DIE IN GLORY!

I think them Dark Angels guys look pretty sexy

AHA! I rused you, user! Alpha Legion is the sexiest Spess muhreens!

>Liking the "Oh Yeah, Well I'm a Space Marine +1, and we're immune to corruption and super faithful and get all the good items because we're so cool and even better than the Custodes" faction.

Your tastes are even more plebian than those of the Space Yiff fanboys.

>Speciality: Being cucked by the Codex Astartes harder than any other Chapter
>Good

>Mutants
>Couldn't even do their job and destroy the World Eaters, or Alpha Legion

Acceptable
>Death Spectres
Literally who?
>Carcharodons
>liking ouch, the edge: the chapter

Why did you post an image of the Fists Exemplar and then mention an extinct chapter?

>Hey guys, lets waste an entire chapter by being fucking retards and pinning ourselves to a tree and making a ladder of superhuman corpses so this child can get her cat
>oh, wrong tree? OH WELL FOR THOSE WE CHERISH W-WE DIE IN GLORY
>;w; such bros... true heroes of the imperium...

>Liking DA after what Gav Thorpe has done to them

Only good taste in this thread

So while eating infants you banging a sister of the faith? Oh nelly.

We wear the color of fear because we are fear incarnate.

> Followed codex to a letter

Unseen, unheard, unremembered, unfeared

>In Fucking Dedicato Imperatum Ultra Articulo Mortis

They are the true walking graves, not dreadnoughts. Silent, and impervious to all whims in the realm of the living. If they feel anything, it is but pain and agony incarnate chained and tamed by iron willed loyalty and dedication.
With their own minds slowly collapsing on them, they collectively choose not to speak or interact, not even with each other, for they know it could only do more harm than good.

they fucking retconned most of this

>night lords
laughing ultramarine levies.jpg

To the bitter end.

>liking Raven Guard that try too hard

MUH MONARCHIA

REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Some of you are alright, don't go to Istvaan tomorrow.

Yes, I know a portion of the background is fucked, I can only make so many flesh tearer and iron warrior memes

Thanks, battle-fa m

>420 -> Not 420

>What is the best space Marine chapter

are you kidding me with these shit threads?
crunch wise it's entirely subjective and depends on what type of tactics you wish to utilize whether in a competitive or friendly game.

with that being said

>Why is it the Ultramarines?

-Overall
>Roman/Greek superhuman aesthetic means you're leading an army of Trojan war heroes
>Roman/Greek aesthetic means they're masters of logistics and can resupply insanely quickly
>Ultramarines actually rebuild infrastructure along with their fortifications so you don't just fight them at their fort but also on every battlefield imaginable.
>They're not hamstrung by over specialization.

-Specific
>the War-Born of Old Night. the original legionnaires were not converted to the emperors cause by diplomacy. they were brought to bear by near annihilation because their resistance was that strong.
>The Osiris Rebellion. without their primarch the Ultramarines got their ass kicked and had a HUGE blemish on their honor that didn't go way until Robbie Swirlyman stepped in and taught his marines what it means to be an anthill.

Step aside, you poor excuses for defenders of Mankind. Best humane chapter coming through.

Blood angels obviously

Best at what? They all have their preferred doctrines.

I guess ultimately it would have to come down to the Ultramarines who have the purest and most stable gene-seed and are therefore a good example of quantity over quality. Remember, though, quantity is a quality in it's own right and shouldn't be discounted.

Or the Raven Guard for actually, you know, using combined arms strategies with the IG and doing their damn job as elite shock troopers and using tactics appropriate to the insane force multiplication properly supported marines can create for an army.

The rest of them don't really fit well into the new Imperium post-heresy, especially regarding the Codex.

>Ultrmarines use the Codex
>the Codex contains a thousand and one different camouflage patterns for every environment Guilliman could think of
>a snippet of fluff for a ridiculously codex-adherent chapter (IIRC the Red Scorpions) implies that the Ultramarines even make up new camouflage patterns for environments not covered by the Codex
>Ultramarines (or anyone else) never shown wearing camo ever)

The older editions had Space Marines in different camo getups all the time, so what happened? Why are there still references to Marines wearing camouflage if it never actually appears in anything?

Red Scorpions refuse to use camo. Their Chapter Tactics even forbid camo cloak scouts.

>no one ever shown wearing camo ever

Kay.

GW figured that most players cannot paint decent camo on anything smaller than a tank to save their lives, more so marine players.

>robot girlyman

>tfw Emperor's Warbringers
>stealthy Imperial Fists
>everyone thinks we're the Raptors
>we've actually been featured in two pretty cool short stories where we threaten an Inquisitor and make surprise attacks on traitors
I guess the Camoflouge is working!

In anons defence, that was pure tau wankery that's become far too common.

>Xenos cracking the uncrackable code
>360 no-scopes an assault marine who was sneaking up on him
>finds out what apothecaries are and what they do just by glancing over one for less than a minute
>still don't know how big the Imperium is

Chapters are for girls. Emperor's Children is the best Space Marines. They got the best kill count on Terra. Their Primarch even killed two other Primarchs. One he killed so hard that his head came off, and the other is dying so badly that he's still dying even to this very day.

>Chapters are for girls
>Emperor's Children

he said best chapter, not "meme-tier, struggling for relevancy" chapters

The only truly great chapter consists of righteously stubborn Ork killing spaniards.

Who is the most awesome chapter that anybody wants to give us gifts?
We even have Custodes armor.

I give you the gift of MY FIST!
(Its crimson)

Because the 'dex fluff likes to reflects in-universe propaganda almost as much as that it like to reflect GW favouritism, user.

That being said; the spiritual liege-crap and certain writers' tendencies to turn them into Mary Sue: the Chapter aside, they're actually pretty decent. Though even then, their quality is that they're good on average. They lose out against specialists (the Smurfs wish that they were anywhere near as killy in close combat as the Blood Angels or Space Wolves, and the Dark Angels will always outmatch them when it comes to shootiness and tech goodies), but they're better at being Average Joes than any other Astartes chapter. They're well-rounded, and I wish that GW authors would appreciate that instead of spouting this "they're better than anyone else and everyone wants to be them!!!!1!"-bullshit.

OTOH, comparing other chapters to the Ultramarines is not really all that fair. Even as a chapter, the Ultramarines get away with being in charge of the dozen-ish worlds of Ultramar, along with a large non-Astartes military and a fleet that post-2nd founding chapters could only dream of.

The "we rebuild conquered worlds"-thing was mainly a feature of the pre-Codex Legion, though.

I mean, expedition fleets were a thing of the past after the Heresy. Guilliman had gone out of his way to separate the branches of the Imperial military, and he made it pretty much impossible for the Astartes to meddle into meddle into the Imperial bureaucracy.

I don't recall any examples of post-Heresy Ultramarines sticking around to rebuild planets. And logically speaking, the codex-era Smurfs wouldn't have the time, manpower or even the logistical apparatus for that, either.

Patrician taste, but that pauldron is a bitch to paint.
