What would be the best system to run a horror game where the PC's are children/youths lost in a mystical forest?

Also any tips or ideas would be appreciated and if you want some spook images too

Monsters and other childish things seems perfect for this

World of Darkness has an Innocents game.

From a quick look at a summery, yes it does. How does it fair with things like witches and fae that are less monstery but still mystical.
There are a lot of World of darkness games, do you have a name for that one?

Grimm is specifically made for this kind of setting, with children lost in a psudeo-folk storybook setting that is subtly sinister. Pic related.

ALSO: Who wants Over the Garden Wall prequel story time?

I do love story times

Ooh. This, with Changling added it.

Okie dokie.

The Judge's tale.

I do.

There are prequel comics? Oh yes I do.

OH SHIT YEAH WOODSMAN BACKSTORY

2/21

And "in between" comic of cut storyline/episode which are really good.

And then the sequel with different MCs, which are not worth the time.

The best part of the comics is that at the end, is complete musical notation for one of the songs.

Funny that... Remember the pub episode, mentioning the judge and finding who you are?

brb, dinner

It feels like something is about to go down. Oh well, better you leave before something happens than while somethings happening

>brb, dinner
You can't do this to me user! I'll figuratively die!

It's an "addon" book for the baseline nWoD / Chronicles of Darkness game.

I don't remember the price being that steep, though.

Got my stew and biscuits, back to the story!

The winter night seems a bit extra could now. Thanks for the storytime, Gropey.

It helps to have this playing in the background. Its the composers cut... youtu.be/WlIJBWBIGS4

>The daughter was never dead at all
What a piddling ending.

Thanks a bunch, Gropey.

Those lyrics are fucking horrifying.

So I take it you haven't watched the cartoon then?

I agree, that does seem kind of lame.
So what even happened to her if she escaped?
I did, but it's been a while so I must have forgotten. Post it in spoiler tags?

I have seen it but it was quite a while ago. I know that the lantern never held the girl's soul, but I thought that the Beast had just killed her. Unless they showed her in the epilogue sequence?

You saw the judge return home, to his waiting daughter, at the end.

Its a very folkloric ending. In the epilogue, they showed her waiting at home, like she had been taught by her mother. The father was fearful and reactionary, the mother was cautious and patient.

I feel like going for a walk in the woods with my lantern now.

You're welcome

Thats only half of them. When the child sings their part, its even worse!

Just wanted to say :
I didn't know about Over the Garden Wall, and I thank you tenfold for letting me learn about it. This looks amazing.

unfortunately one of the large twists has already been spoiled, but that probably gives you first watch of the show an incredibly gothic feel

I, thankfully, am one of these people who do not care one bit about spoilers. So it certainly isn't going to ruin the experience for me.

At first look, I'm very impressed. Didn't think Cartoon Network would air a kids' show as sombre as this.

Is The Beast a daemon of Nurgle?

No, it's a Druid Lich.

Well that was about what I'd fucking expect from a man who's sung just about every version of Mephistopheles.

Grow, tiny seed
You are gone to the trees
Rise, 'til your leaves fill the sky
'Til your sighs fill the air in the night
Lift your mighty limbs
And give praise to the fire

Druid *Bard* Lich

Oops. Didn't read enough of the thread

man fuck'n will-o-wisp tactics are spooky.

Fuck me, I think I'm going to have to rewatch this now

I wish I had another, entirely different season of it.
New characters, new places, same forest.
But we already solved the biggest mystery, so a new one would have to be posed.

I really, really liked the overall setting of OtGW. The vast tracts of wilderness interspersed with the occasional homestead or small village is one of my favorite types of settings, and the folklore-style theme was just icing on the cake. Are there any games with settings like it?

Warhammer Fantasy.
