SCP Game

Hi Veeky Forums! I'd love to do an SCP Foundation game with my friends. What system would best work for this sort of setting?

I've not played it myself, but this seems to be exactly the kind of thing Call of Cthulhu was made for.

cypher system perhaps

That or the Laundry RPG, which is based on Call of Cthulhu anyhow ,and Charlie Stross's worlbuilding is not all that different from SCPF world.

Call of Cthulhu and Delta Green.
NEMESIS (Dark ORE) is free and it'll work pretty damn well.

Honestly, I'd say you'd have more fun running a Global Occult Coalition game (or a Wanderer's Library) game than a Foundation one. The Foundation is way too bureaucratic for adventuring shenannigans. The MTFs don't know the field agents. The field agents don't know the containment specialists. Etc etc.

If you do want to be Foundation agents, a couple of ideas.

>Minor Installation Crew.
There's a handful of stories on the wiki about Foundation outposts set up in small towns & stuff. Have a crew of 10/15 foundation agents with all sorts of specialisations.

>Mobile Task Force.
Might be cool for a paranormal 'operator' campaign. Get sent to supernatural hotspots, sort it out. Maybe have players identify the properties of a skip in-field?

>Field Agent Team
This would be more like a typical CoC campaign, I'd feel. You'd be assigned a target ('people are turning into bees, find out why') and left to investigate it.

lots of people say that Delta Green is a good system choice.

As the Foundation itself? From (second-hand) experience, some of the GOIs - especially serpent's hand and goc - are a lot more fun to play with, especially with their relative lack of canon to constrict you with

Delta Green

bonp

As the one voice that won't insist Delta Green, maybe Hunter?

In The Vigil, there's even a government agency called Task Force: Valkyrie that basically is just right for the actual squads that go out to collect SCPs. Aegis Kai Doru is basically exactly the same as the SCP Foundation, except they have slightly less compulsions against using the SCPs in their possession in the field. Both even have rules, IIRC, might just be the latter, for making artifacts for them to use.

plus the engine for Hunter is reasonably lethal.

which would have to be a staple for an SCP game

I'll keep these in mind
I'd like to be flexible with which GOI you can play as. Overall, I'd like a game that takes place in the Foundation universe.
That one could be fun. Maybe have a system that heavily awards creativity.

>Are We Cool Yet
I don't do the non SCP file reading on the foundation website...what is this.

Art terrorists. They make SCP art installations and put them in areas where a lot of people will see them.

I forgot to link this: scp-wiki.net/system:page-tags/tag/are-we-cool-yet

There are some SCP's they've made.

>reads some SCPs
playing AS them I can see being a challenge for the GM. how do you determine the power-level? how do they do what they do?(FUCKING WIZZARDS MAN)

however, playing a field agent team investigating team tracking those fuckers down sounds like a fucking BLAST.(second only to a game about a team dedicated to taking down Marshal Carter & Dark Inc.)

what might be cool is if the party has 2 characters each, 1 field agent and 1 mobile task force member.

For the former, I'd say it'd be like a heist movie. We were tasked with planting an SCP in an art gallery and have to use stealth to store it there.

The latter would be pretty fun too. You'd also be at an art gallery brunch trying to find out who there is an AWCY agent and take them out stealthily.

>I'd say it'd be like a heist movie
only Bss Ackwards

though, these descriptors lead me to a realization...
OP
TRY RUNNING IT IN SHADOWRUN

because the SR core engine is
1.) lethal
2.) potentially very fast
3.) capable of handling wierd shit(just look at this magic man, and cyborgs, and monsters and shit)
4.) equipped to deal with investigation, infiltration, sabotage, misdirection, and generally malicious mischief

I'm going to say "run it in 4e/20th" though, not because I think it's a superior system so much as because it's got more published,(reasonably) balanced material. run it with heavy player restrictions on equipment, and a total hold on anything even a little magical(aside from MAYBE some lite adept powers) and you got yourself some pretty good shit...

Okay how about this.

You control 2 MTFs.

MTF Greek Number- "The Curators"
MTF Robert Ludlum- "Consumer Laws"

You're working tgether on a joint operation against AWCY and MC&D. You've noticed evidence of cooperation between the two groups.

Play it out like X-com. You have 2 teams you can send to investigate shit. Depending on how long it takes you to get to anomalies, other Foundation personnel OR other GOIs could have a presence.

The reason for 2 MTFs is that it lets you jet around the world and visit different locations more freely. ALSO, if you get a TPK you have another party to play as while the GM writes a replacement MTF for the dead guys.

That sounds pretty accurate. Anyone have anymore ideas?

That sounds too complicated.

man, either of those MTFs looks like a good game on it's own.

the trick would be running 2 concurrent games with 2 different parties that occasionally cooperate by "borrowing" personnel.

Everyone just makes 2 characters.
Yeah it could be a little tricky, desu.

Another idea is to run 2 games. Alternating weeks with a different party?

Special events you bring in all 8 or 9 players. Highly lethal combat would suit this best, so nobody's trading hits like in d&d.

>male to female transexual

tricky desu senpai. Uguu don't get tricky with my cagina spot baka.

Mobile Task Force, onii-chan.

It still feels like more than I can handle.

I was working on an SCP campaign in Chronicles of Darkness. I liked the monster creator.

I just recently heard about Delta Green, so I am looking into that though.

Delta Green post 9/11.

The Program basically *is* the SCP Foundation.

guys I'm posting in another thread and there have been 100 posts there and 2 posts here.

Step it up.

How about tweaking/hacking pic related for SCP?

I feel like delta green (original one) is the opposite of you want. That ones about a bunch of rough neck lone operators out in the cold with only there wits and a moldy condom as resources. SCP on the other hand is a big centralized (to a point) Shadow Government the extent of which is unknown, with resources out the wazoo. They have embassys with alternate universes, a space program.
P.S. Look up directerate K I love that one

you might look at the Shadowrun suggestion upthread.

think it works? or am I crazy?

honestly depends how you play, individual operators? More overseer type stuff? Individual researchers? Something like RT's or DH's resource system might work

>RT or DH
>Rogue Trader or Dark Heresy?

and how does that work? I'm curious and too lazy to go DL the books...

Thank you for letting me know.

I'll chuck in another vote for NEMESIS (mentioned here ), it cribs from the Unknown Armies madness meters which gives you something neat to hit your players with and cross-compatibility with other ORE systems means that you can, say, take superpowers directly from Wild Talents to use for SCPs rather than having to come up with a unique system for each of them.
