The problem is the pandering, which makes characters feel like tools for gaining pc points,
making them feel cheap.

A different example would be something happening in RPG style vidya lately.
Love interests are now just always attracted to the player in many games, regardless of their gender.
So you play the game as a dude, and have a relationship with person A,
you can then play it as a female and have that same relationship with person A.
It wouldn't be a problem if it were one or two characters, but when it's literally everyone, it makes the characters seem cheap, as if they have no personality independent of the player.
Now this is probably due more to lazieness than SJW pandering, but it's another example of characters being made to seem less authentic by their creator.
It's not the fact that a character is a certain sexual orientation that's the problem,
the problem is the creator doing it for reasons that are not organic to the character.
