Academagia pdf request

Anyone got it?

By reflex I want to direct you to /r/, but I'm pretty sure they don't have PDF enabled.

Of course. I uploaded the New Phyrexia Godbook there back when it leaked.
I miss /rs/.

Man. Those were the days.
Of course, nobody really noticed when it left, so

What the fuck? I made this. People are actually looking for this?

I tried having suffixes be themed per each college, so yeah, it came out with some cringeworthy names. Which was kinda intentional. The worst one by far was probably 'choromatics' though, since nobody knew what the fuck 'choro' meant. But "spacematics" or "spatiamatics" didn't read well either.

So, anyone else actually playtested my system? I'd love to hear about how it's went.

Wait, what?!
That's even a thing?

Not what you were looking for? Dang, I was hoping I had fans!

Member when rapidsearch.yi.org was discontinued and the owner said "what's the point of me running this superior site when we already have Veeky Forums /rs/ that does the same job?"

But who even used rs at that time... nobody

I didn't even know this exists. But I'm glad it does.

That's some nice and clean formatting and layout. Good job!

Whoa, this exists? Damn, I need to try running it now if I can find people for it.

May have to try running this

Any ideas on why I'm unable to d/l the pdf? I'm constantly getting 0kb files. Tried grabbing it through two different browsers even

Are you able to open it on your browser? Give it a little time, when I opened it, my computer took a full minute to get it open.

I want to sample Sucy's potion.

I just get the message "Failed to load PDF document" and the little Reload button gives the same results.

Just imagine how it must feel...

Connection issue, I guess?
Grab a laptop and find a place with free wi-fi, try there.
If free isn't an option, go to a coffee shop and get something nice to drink or McDonalds and get a coke.

Not really a fan of how ghettoized the magic is, but otherwise bredy gud.

Also, while I get the appeal of using magic like a relatively freeform superpower, I do think you shouldn't knock discrete spell lists either, especially not for a game with Harry Potter elements*, since the individual spells in Harry Potter are a real important part of the setting, especially the goofy little toy spells the tooth-growing hex.

*even if that's not what you're intending the game to be about, people are going to want to use it that way

I want to say that mai waifu is PURE, but in all honesty, she's really not.

I'm not the author, but do you have any suggestions on how to rework that?

Hoold up, somebody made a homebrew for Little Witch Academia?

You're awesome dude, I'll have to read this.

Bump

I'm using this for GURPS now

I like it man. If it's actually based off of LWA you might have to do some revising after the anime ends?

I always thought that Little Wizards would be the better system for this, but Acadamagia doesn't look bad either

I'd recommend reworking the courses into things like D&D spell schools. It feels kind of silly (in a capeshitty way, not in a witchy way) that there is a "FIRE CLASS 101" and an "ICE CLASS 101". A proper witch, even a specialist, would have a variety of spells at her disposal. Thus, I it'd be better if there were an "Elemental Evocation 101", which would include fire, ice, electricity, air, water, and earth. It might be required if you wanted to get a degree in alchemy, alchemical engineering, or battle magic.

Then I'd recommend a specific list of spells as opposed to general superpower criteria. Since the game is about witches-in-training, a spell failure mechanic (and possibly miscast tables!) might be in order. I'd recommend against a spells per day system, since that might discourage experimentation.

Each spell should have one or more subjects associated with it. Your sum of your grades in a course plus any bonuses from studying that subject on your own determine your general competency in that subject -- if you've never taken a class, then just the latter. Your likelihood to cast a spell correctly (and to control its power, and to avoid side effects if it is cast incorrectly) is based on your highest competency score applicable to that spell.

This is now a Sucy thread.

Awyisss.

But Lotte is the best witch!

Wrong. She has tits. That means she's ready.

I cast dump.

...

I like that it's not Vancian magic. I hate having to stop the action of play to look up spell lists, effects, ranges etcetera. How does combat work? Is it round by round or do players discuss their actions and resolve them as a scene.

should jot down some notes from the series for sure and do some updates as details unfold.

Just finished watching Eps 04 and thought Lotte as a kid was pretty cute. Had the urge to screengrab and shoop.

the only thing that would make this book better are more lore articles and illustrations

So if Sucy is from the Phillipines and only half human, which parent was human and what was the other?

Yeah like examples of 'day in the life of the average -INSERT SCHOOL HERE- user' and shit like that.

we've seen concept art of Sucy's Mom, and she seems to have some shapeshifting ability, so my bet goes to her.

Aswang maybe? A sort of shapeshifting vampire/ghoul/lycanthrope from her area, known to sometimes marry humans and very loyal to friends despite their monstrous tendency to eat children.

that's what I was thinking.
Adding to that, they've often been described as quiet, reclusive, and more importantly having droopy bloodshot eyes; things our dear Sucy has in spades.

Source?

>half human
When was this stated

>Fuggin widch, go bag to Hogfarts :DDDD

lel.

Huh, that is odd. I know I have the original file on my old computer, which is lying around somewhere. I can get it out tomorrow, and upload it. That file should work.

I actually have been wanting to revisit the project for a long time, especially given the anime and second movie. Now that it seems I have people interested, I guess I really should!

The 'rework' I had in mind was very radical, but if people like the basis of this system, I could just try to improve it.

And yes, I'd definitely take the recent anime into account. The system is meant to be a combination of LWA -and- HP, but it's definitely majority LWA.

I like this idea. I trusted in the Administrator to provide for miscast effects and such, but supplying some suggestions is not a bad idea!

I really didn't want spell lists, as I wanted to keep the system very freeform. However, I DEFINITELY agree that the spell schools I had were shit. That was the #1 thing I wanted to change.

The grade descriptions were simultaneously really boring and number-heavy, while also not being crunchy or mechanically interesting. I definitely wanted to revise that.

And I did agree the schools didn't feel particularly interesting. I'd probably stick closer to the source material of HP and LWA in a future iteration. Perhaps 'specialties' could govern things like being better at fire rather than ice, and so on... something like that...

However, I definitely did NOT want spell lists, for the same reason this user provided: . I figured players would collaborate to decide classic HP and LWA style spells, rather than have to pick them from a literal list. You know? I much preferred the more freeform way of describing what you're capable of, but not what

(Continued...)

Lol, you liked the lore? Thanks... I actually kinda find it embarassing looking back to it.

I definitely had plans to include illustrations and more examples of play and lore in the next draft. "A day in the life", as suggested by , was on the list.

Combat was basically purely narrative in this draft. I really didn't intend for this draft to be treated anywhere close to final (it was like 0.01 and was written in just a few days), which is why there is no section on how to handle injuries, stress, etc. I was playtesting possibilities for it then.

-

So, given that it seems plenty of people are interested... I guess Academagia is back on my active roster! I've already been thinking about it off and on, but now I feel really galvanized to give it the proper polish it deserves. It's been quite a while since I touched it last, and I'm confident I can make it better.

Thanks for the kind words and thoughtful feedback, everyone. It really means a lot. It's super surreal seeing so many people enjoy a dinky little personal project I made three years ago!

Who is this?

Oh, and I also definitely wanted to revise what counted as an 'Easy A'. Having actions equal to your grade be Easy As was definitely a mistake...

You can't trust players to interpret your rules in a specific way. You can't assume that they're going to look at, say, Cryoturgy and say something like, "I cast the spell Englaciatus Maximus to encase the dragon in a block of ice!" They might lack imagination, or they might see that as a nuisance and just treat cryoturgy as an ice superpower defined within the limits you've written down.

Remember another thing: just because you have spell lists doesn't mean the players have to pick from them! You could assemble a table of spellbooks for the Administrator to select from and give to players. You could also have a list of spells the students learn just from attending class -- in week 1 of Elemental Evocation, they might learn "flint sparks", "static cling", and "frosty condensation". The second week they might learn "snuff flame" and "electric insulation". By the end of the semester, they'd be learning "hands of glory", "surface freeze", and "Nikola's lesser arc".

Imagine one PC attending class and learning a spell to levitate a single lightweight object. She has fun doing this, so after practicing it on her own, she checks a book out from the library called "Ye Danse of ye Wynds", which contains a number of similar spells. Most of these are too difficult for her to perform, but she uses her knowledge gained from class to get to the point where she can inconsistently perform a spell that lets her levitate a number of objects at once, and move them around in the air once they are off the ground. She gets better at this and eventually impresses her friends by levitating the fallen autumn leaves into the shapes of funny puppets and making them perform a puppet show!

Leaving it all up to the players to come up with their own spells based on what the rules say they can do with magic might cheat them out of the experience of progressively learning new spells as they explore the wonderful world of magic.

Reminder that LWA is a Nickelodeon shit-tier children-oriented Jap-Harry Potter anime with Western-style animation and not only is a shit anime but also shouldn't have its place on /a/.

Reminder that being a desiccated turd about everything you don't especially like means nobody actually enjoys spending time with you, and you will grow to be a burden on everyone you know until the day they finish paying off your cemetery plot.
On that day someone will breath a sigh of mild relief and they will never think of you again.

What are some other good systems for this genre? Wasn't there a Harry Potter homebrew tg made?

Agreed with everything you're saying. Great stuff. I'll reply in more detail later but I'm on phone right now.

Right, in the final version I would have recommended players and GMs collaborate to come up with spell names, but again, this was my personal-use playtest version. A lot of things I never got around to putting in it, such as an extended GMing section.

Once again. Thanks for the feedback and awesome suggestions!

Most of those things you said aren't bad

>Nikola's Lesser Arc
Well done, that man.

When I saw the thread I thought it was about an rpg version of the Academagia pc game. Seems I was mistaken.

It's on the wiki, though her being from the Philippines got changed to just "southeast Asia" after the creators decided to make things more generic for some reason.

Akko a cute.

Welll it is still a "school of wizardy" type game.

Yes, HP and the Tabletop Game. It needed a revamp but it's playable, but would need extrensive refluffing to work for LWA

I'm fairly partial to the way the rules system is now, although I'm not opposed to making the magic system a little less nebulous.
I just like how kind of free form it is, instead of being limited by long lines of spell lists and all the associated bookkeeping.

Can't sympathise with a cunt.

Remember that spell lists don't have to be complex and tedious! A cheat sheet of spells sorted by school with one-line explanation of what they do would make spell lists so much easier to deal with, maybe with certain spells having a short internal list of augments to the effect on which the players can spend their degrees of success, advancing once in a list per degree of success.

>flint sparks: The caster flicks sparks from her fingertips, igniting kindling or gunpowder.
>static cling: The caster imbues a handkerchief-sized patch of fabric, hair, or fur with a light electrical charge, causing it to stand on end or adhere to things lightly.
>frosty condensation: The caster touches an object, chilling it and causing water droplets to condense on it by the end of this round, and freeze by the end of the next
>snuff flame: The caster sticks her hand into a [candle/torch/campfire]-sized flame, putting it out instantly.*
>electric insulation: The caster touches a [grapefruit/cantaloupe/watermelon]-sized object, causing it to resist electrical charge for [one round/one hour/one day].
>hands of glory: The caster's left hand bursts into unconsuming flame for [one turn/one hour] or until she makes a fist with that hand.
>surface freeze: The caster touches the surface of a [hot tub/swimming pool/pond]-sized body of water, causing it to freeze over for one day. The ice [is not/is] strong enough to skate on.
>Nikola's lesser arc: A bolt of electricity arcs from the caster's hands or wand, moderately charging a grounded and conductive object a short ways away to lightly damage it.**

"Short range" means "within 10 feet", as opposed to "mid range" which means "across the classroom" and "long range" which means "down the hallway".

*Yes, this means she burns her hands if she fails to cast the spell correctly!
**Unless it resists the charge.

Still would need a little more polishing to make it nice and compact, but you get the idea

Yeah, I dont think I'll change that much for 0.02. I have a few subsystems I'd like to add (stress, and a simple form of "time management" to capture the importance of studying) and a few fixes (the dice mechanic, perhaps?) And I definitely want to overhaul the spell system. Other than that it played fine in the few playtests I got to do.

The 'radical rework' I had in mind was to convert it closer to PBTA, with moves instead of freeform resolution. But I don't think that'd be necessary at all.

If anyone has any suggestions for other things to add or fix, I'd love to hear them.

And, of course, rules should be included for the invention of new spells.

Maybe you could set up a Discord for playtesting or throwing ideas around?

Should the world's lore be expanded upon?

Who updates the wiki? She still has a Philippino name so why wouldn't she be philippina?

She's a philippino in everything but name, basically.
Producer-sensie said in an interview on /a/ that they want her to be mysterious.

This is precisely what I would do, yeah. A lot like 0.01 in its descriptions and such, but with more of an emphasis on narrative effect rather than numbers. You're full of wonderful suggestions!

Definitely! I want to cover 'wild magic', 'spell creation', and 'miscasts' in the new version for sure. I think inventing new spells would fall under some possible 'studying' mechanics I'm working on, which would fit alongside the 'stress' system I'm planning to cover for HP (alongside emotional injury and as a penalty for poor time management)

Not a bad idea. If there's enough interest I'll definitely do it.

If people liked it, then yeah! Feel free to come up with stuff. I can try fleshing it out if people want that, too. There were a few details I left open for GMs, as well.

Also, forgot my image. I have a big store of artwork I used for inspiration making Academagia. I'd be happy to dump it in the thread.

I certainly wouldn't mind it.

Go ahead

Sorry about the wait, but I come bearing good news! I went and recovered my data off my old computer, and with it, the original PDF for version 0.01 of Academagia.

In addition, I have the original -files- for it as well, so I can begin working on 0.02 without having to redo it from scratch! Huzzah.

Huh okay what's the difference between these two PDFs? Unlike some anons having problem, the first one opens just fine for me.

Not sure myself, but I figured I'd just upload the original to see if if fixes anyone's problem. :)
