IMO

Always been partial to the 4 of Diamonds

Love my king of hearts.
Alchemy, arcana, fulton's Halloween.

I always thought these are pretty cool

For a traditional look I like Keepers and Tally-Ho (slight preference to fan back over circle)

>DMG

I bought some of these and they're absolutely gorgeous, but if you try to play for more than 90 minutes or so they start to become a strain on the eyes.

Are those marked cards?

No

If I was an insane person I'd have a few black gold monarchs

A Bank Card.

Always liked these ones

three layers deep. I haven't bought any new ones since mid 2016, but I plan to fill the chest some day

I'm surprised nobody has made a lootbox type thing for cards. You could even spice it up a little with deck clips, dealer coins, dice, etc

I went there expecting $100 decks of playing cards, but for ten bucks I might have to get pack or two. Those Monarchs are seriously handsome

the black gold ones could go for about 100

Cool but you can get plenty of other black/gold decks for $10 or less. Aurelian, Ornate Obsidian, any number of Bicycle decks (Asura black/gold is probably the nicest looking one)

Man I really gotta get back into cards.

Just wanted to clarify the blue ones aren't marked but the red Keepers are readers.

I don't know much about cards but I like the Venexiana deck. Would cost me way too much to get ahold of one I believe. I remember looking at a "darker" deck a few years ago but I can't for the life of me remember what it's called. It had an old-timey vibe to it.

Bicycle/USPCC has about 70973 different decks

By old timey do you mean like Americana or victorian-ish?

I think it was more Victorian style. Definitely older, but it still had sort of a dark fairground feel. Something a soothsayer at a carnival might have perhaps.

That fits a lot of cards

You can check these, if you can't find the exact one you can find something you like. The ellusionist 3 pack deal is good because you get a 4th one free.

I've got this set of Russian cards my old man brought back from Russia when I was like 11, they're pretty cool looking.

Many thanks! Been googling decks for the past 45mins, finding a lot of good looking ones. I appreciate the links!

I'm looking for a deck of cards purely for shuffling, i don't care about their appearance, i just want them to feel good. I found some people saying modiano cards are thicker and feel more like paper, does anybody have any input?

The dopest shit.

That one I found and then quickly lost on Deviantart. You know the one.

Anything really desu

If you want to try out some nicer cards and winning to drop $20 I'd go to ellusionist.com/3-deck-bundle-pack.html

Grab some Blue Keepers and whatever else looks cool.

thank you

my only worry is endurance, how long can i expect these to last?

What are some fun cardgames to play with a bicycle deck. All I know is Casino, Spit, and Texas Holdem, and blackjack.

Anything other than cheap made in china cards you'd find in walmart or w/e should last a good while if you're not regularly dropping them, bending them too far or throwing them.

If you're new to it you can easily fuck up your cards learning to do stuff like springs so buying super cheap to start isn't bad.

For some practical comparisons

Hearts. Spades. If you're hardcore, bridge.

7 of Diamonds. The one Diamond that isn't always right-side up.

while the normal is good; it IS my favorite foil by far.

This fucking thread is about to cost me $50

Just got my set of Minim playing cards.
>we asked ourselves how much we could take away from a deck of cards while still keeping them regulations

Wife made a 3-D life counter out of the foils. Beautiful.

I'd love to see that

>What does pot of greed do!

...

If you're someone who likes to fidget with their hands basic cardistry feels so good

THE KING OF HEARTS

>Princess Bride Cards
I too got that lootcrate.

>dopest
Honestly, I think that Yugioh just has flat out better foil cards than Magic. Magic only has one, and it's just a shiny gloss, where Yugioh has multiple foil types. The best of which is actually an engraved style. It's VERY hard to show up on images and video, but this is what it looks like.

youtu.be/qsvCHGi2uCo?t=2m16s

Sorry, forgot that Veeky Forums doesn't save timestamps.

2 minutes 16 shows it.

Also, I am not saying that Yugioh is a better game. Just that it has better foils.

These look neat, why is the deck so expensive?

I know they're a little bit kitsch, but I spotted these on Kickstarter earlier today. I've always been a fan of Don Quixote, and the cards themselves look fine af.

Keepers are great. Beautiful and very sturdy. I always carry a deck around.

not them but it looks like it was some limited run kickstarter thing

Fuck. I need these. Got a link to the Kickstarter?

While not as aesthetically pleasing as some of the traditional cards posted, I've got a couple sets of Bone playing cards, and they're pretty sweet.

What RPGs or wargames have cool mechanics with cards?

The best decks are the simple classic bicycles that you get for a dollar. The aesthetic of cards isn't a fancy artsy one.

Those are some nice ones though.

It's made by fools. I'd love to see el Quixote on one suit, but it makes more sense to make him the jack, and put people from other stories on other cards. Even if you gave Cervantes a whole suit, it would make most sense to put el Quixote on the jack, Dulcinea as queen, and Panza as the ace. Cervantes himself could be a joker, but it leaves the king empty. The best fit I can think of would be Don Diego de Miranda.

Actually something with a story from different authors of that era would be nice. Have another suit with Cyrano de Bergerac as a jack, one with Othello as jack, and the fourth I can't think of.

>The best decks are the simple classic bicycles that you get for a dollar.

This is objectively untrue, they're not even the best cheap cards. You can get a brick of casino cards for about the same price

They're not the best because of cheapness or any other inherent quality. They're the best because they're ubiquitous and thus iconic.

Malifaux uses cards instead of dice.

Dust Devils has you use Poker hands for checks.

Iconic to whom? Who's to say someone isn't more familiar with hoyle, bee, aviator, tally-ho playing cards? My grandmother always had red aviator bridge cards

I don't think most people could tell the difference between the rider back and a mandolin back, hoyle back, etc

Cid Hamete Bengelli could take the king spot.

>Bee
Those backs are fucking abominable.

Never go to a casino I guess

Casinos have their own backs anyway.

That sounds interesting but Malifaux turned me off very fucking hard with its steampunk theme.

Wild Cards has you essentially play blackjack instead of roll dice.

Really its more pulp styled, its easy to have an army with no steam/dieselpunk elements. The 'steampunk wargame' sthick is mostly just marketing.

Itard here. While we haven't Bycycle we got Modiano and Del Negro.
Not the coolest, but the cards are fine and usually pretty cheap. I personally prefer the latter, but the difference is negligible.

Sine Requie uses tarots instead of dice, but dunno if it has an english translation.

You don't have to SAY it's a better game, everyone already knows it's a better game.

Modiano backs look pretty similar to Tally-Ho (another brand from USPCC the makers of Bicycle)

The best card is pic related.

>The best decks are the simple classic bicycles that you get for a dollar. The aesthetic of cards isn't a fancy artsy one.
Thou opine art hot, comrade.

I've got one of those old sets of playing cards with the pics of all the Iraqi officers we were hunting back in the Bush years. I love bringing it out to trigger libs.

>he can't into archaic verb endings but still tries to use them
Neck thyself before thou wreckst thyself.

>I love bringing it out to trigger libs

When has this ever happened

but who would actually want those? Was it some kind of military issue to get soldiers to memorize targets faces and names?

in his dreams, because he's too autistic to do anything in the real world other than buy playing cards.

>but who would actually want those?
Republicans?

>Was it some kind of military issue to get soldiers to memorize targets faces and names?
No, it was SUPPORT OUR TROOPS FUCK TOWELHEADS merchandise.

You guys are morons, he just needs to play cards with his family now and then. There'll guaranteed be an aunt or some shit who gets butthurt and post on her Facebook about That One Guy With No Social Graces because she equates political disagreement with being a clod. Everybody loses, but it sure as fuck ain't rare.

Exactly. The military made them because bored soldiers play cards. When you are on deployment there is usually a lot of downtime playing spades etc. If you are using the free pack of cards they gave you you are also (they hope) memorizing their faces, names and general details through exposure.

Since when is asking a question moronic

Oshu Zen Tarot. I'm partial to I Existence, myself.

>No, it was SUPPORT OUR TROOPS FUCK TOWELHEADS merchandise.
Not quite, there is a long tradition of using playing cards with military intelligence encoded on them in order to help soldiers memorise key information. They were specifically produced and distributed to key units during the conflict.

>stripes.com/news/buyers-beware-the-real-iraq-most-wanted-cards-are-still-awaiting-distribution-1.4525
>Troops often play cards to pass the time, and seeing the names, faces and titles of the wanted Iraqis during their games will help soldiers and Marines in case they run into the wanted individuals in the field, Brooks said.

Black Lotus.

nah

Fuck, I forgot how good certain yugioh foils looked. Completely forgot those ultimate rares existed. I always found it weird how yugioh had like 8 rarities, though. Common, uncommon, rare, those I get. Then you have "super rare" with plain gloss foil. Ultra rare has a golden name alongside the gloss foil. Ultimate rare looks like some kind of metal leaf instead of regular holo. Secret rares are cool as fuck, but not as cool as Ultimates, and then fucking GHOST RARES.

FUCKING GHOST RARES, MAN.

LIKE SECRET RARES...EXCEPT THE ART IS ENTIRELY MONOCHROME. And looks kinda 3d. Ghost rares fuck ya up yo.

Does Yomi count? It's fighting game RPS where the cards are poker cards that have different effects based on side.

Yomi is an actual card game, I think they meant something that isn't card based but uses them

It was a part gimmick, part propaganda, I have the set and from a propaganda perspective it was a good idea. It also helped soldiers memorise the names I suppose, if they heard a name mentioned they would start to associate it with the man in question.

First post best post.
