When you can't find a group, the only thing left is hate.
Logan Perry
>what do I want to fight about today? I want my Mary Sue mercenary company with loads of Clan tech that exists in 3051 accepted on the table this instant! *huff... huff*
Dominic Diaz
When you do find a group there's a lot of hate as well.
Benjamin Mitchell
Just play Wolf's Dragoons or Kell Hounds, brah
Chase Mitchell
...
Joseph Rodriguez
Why wait till 3051? My mercenary company fled the 4th Succession Wars, found the clan Homeworlds, kicked their tail and brought back all the best 'mechs in our new warship. j/k.
Noah Young
Re: BattleTech Pathfinder - New mechanics aren't hard - making a new universe is.
Cameron Cox
Can we all agree that the Start League era has the least problems of them all? It is impossible to hate it
Camden Young
Civil war SFDL leaving, yea things were just peachy keen.
Logan Powell
Star Force Defense League?
Parker Russell
You wouldn't need new mechanics. But yes,the new universe is the hard part. Ie. giving people a reason to care about your game.
Dylan Johnson
Are there any stories in BattleTech that resemble Star Trek?
Like I think I recall reading about a Star League ship lost in time. Was that canon? And the Explorer Corps. Are they still in operation?
I'd like to know if there are any more. And maybe what Star League era ships would be best suited to a "5 Year Mission" of exploration.
Brody Sanders
Is Finland white?
Owen Adams
Could Battletech Gunpla ever work or are the mechs too ridiculous to give them even the most basic of functions?
Connor Rodriguez
Nah, Finland is mongol which is objectively superior to white. Genkhis Khan, never forget.
Daniel Martin
Varies from mech to mech. I was actually giving this some thought the other day. Far Country. we don't talk about Far Country
Sebastian Ramirez
Which clan was he khan of?
Austin Diaz
>thicc >tattoos >muslim >physicist
Nice to see some actual original characters for once.
A shame the MechTech is cliched as fuck. Where'd he get that mechanical arm anyway?
Alexander Peterson
Are these bad as far as Battle Armor go?
Asher Torres
>>tattoos >>muslim Ain't tattoos haram?
Eli Thomas
Finish ameri-burger here. I constantly have urges to conquer China. I have wondered why for years until I learned about our glorious Mongoloid past. Fear me. This is also the reason I like spanking Cappies.
Lincoln Reyes
>muslims >space Canonically aside from the Azami and that group from ISP3, most of the muslim population was still on Earth at the time of Amaris going "Thou shall not have any gods before me" and wrecking Mecca.
Dominic Sanchez
Yeah.
HBS "muh cavalcade of cockgobbling caricatures for 'diversity' demanding social justice fascists" creations are just another example of "OOGA BOOGA WHITEY BE EVUL, LOOK AT ME MAKE CONTRADICTORY CHARACTERS!" that plagues the minds designers and those too weak to figure out the world for themselves.
Daniel Cruz
Those things would be fun and interesting. "Fun and interesting" is not part of the BattleTech mission statement nor writer's bible in the Jihad or later periods.
Also, resembling another property is anathema to BattleTech now, because they might get sued. References or homages are verboten unless the writer can slip them past the LD/editor team (see also: "SLS Dreadnought").
>I sometimes miss the 80s writing where every few pages there was an interesting cultural reference.
Who cares anymore? Everything's haram.
Brayden Miller
Canonically space travel with muslims was resolved in the 25th century, well before Amaris
Aiden Bell
It's 1000 years from now. Speaking as a Muslim, everything with us is not the same as it was 1000 years ago.
Hunter Jackson
Good points.
Jacob Davis
I'm still irritated there isn't an SLS Rufus. We've got the Bill S. Preston and Theodor Logan, but not Rufus.
Juan Rivera
>I sometimes miss the 80s writing where every few pages there was an interesting cultural reference.
At least Japan keeps the legacy alive with their godly parody laws. I mean, really, no one is wrestling away Star Wars' lightsabers away from Gundams. Not with how much these people love Star Wars.
Jonathan Rivera
I love the Essex class destroyers named Sharon and Tracy.
Daniel Allen
Yeeeah... thats a bigger suspension of disbelief than the characters themselves, considering, you know, actual history.
Brayden King
>At least Japan keeps the legacy alive with their godly parody laws.
Japan has worse parody laws than US in reality. It's just that Japanese companies usually don't care shit about that stuff and western companies can't into Japanese language and culture, so they can't enforce their stuff very well there. Some companies (like Nintendo) do care though and they have been suing things like Mario porn pretty bad which is why it's relatively rare.
Jack Powell
yeah tell me about my own culture and its history, so interesting
Gabriel Evans
>Japan has worse parody laws than US in reality.
That's funny. Laws that almost no one knows or cares about might as well not exist. I mean, I've seen my fair share of fan animations and fan games all shunning off the threat of western C&D by noting their parody laws specifically allow this so they can eat their hearts out.
Joshua James
As is her make-up. The fact that she has tattoos is strange, it's also strange she is exposing her arms. She also shouldn't pilot any mech/vehicles she works on, as women are not supposed to drive themselves. If she is talking to you over coffee, you'd better be a relative, or her owner (father, husband, brother) should be present. Not sure how she got to be a doctor though, Muhammad specifically states women are mentally deficient.
Aaron Watson
But to mirror that user's question: if you were undetaking a 5 year mission with a SLDF era warship what do you think the top designs for such an adventure would be?
Caleb Collins
>when /pol/ leaks out of its containment
Easton Lee
Probably, a Vincent, if it's smalltime, or a SovSoy if it's a big job. Both have vast amounts of cargo space for five years of decent provisions and enough living space for each crewer not to go crazy, plus room for more science gear and scientists than anyone can handle
Adrian Gomez
With the final (second) death of the Eridani Light Horse, and the apparent end of the Com Guards and Word of Blake Militia, are there any units left that are direct descendants/holdovers of the Star League or Terran Hegemony militaries?
Excluding the Clans and their claims.
Luke Gonzalez
A Newgrange if I could get it, then you can fabricate everything you need and have huge cargo bays.
Pretty much everyone but the Dracs has a House unit that defected from the SLDF, and the Blue Star Irregulars started out as a bunch of former SLDF guys who were decorrated by Kerensky. The Blackhearts were SLDF special forces and the Northwind Highlanders while not actual SLDF had a lot of ties to the Royal Black Watch.
Leo Moore
Well, yeah it's pretty strange, but if you don't believe just google "doujinshi illegal copyright" and you will realize that parodies and fanfiction are totally illegal in Japan, but copyright holders care much less about these than in US. It's pretty crazy really.
Daniel Sanchez
Depends on the mission parameters and how the ratio between combat/cruising/on-planet exploration is going to work out.
SovSoy and Newgrange are the obvious choices, due to cargo fractions and ability to carry/fabricate spare parts. But the question as-is is probably too open-ended.
Aside from the units already mentioned, is the Lexington Combat Group still around?
..........................................
Side question: have the AT2r record sheets ever been updated? I'm printing out a trio of Overlord-Cs for Saturday's game, and I THINK the AT2 sheets are the most current, but I'm also pretty sure they're no longer legal since IIRC some stats changed in TRO3057 Revised.
Jordan Jenkins
It still rustles my jimmies how that furry fuck got the ELH killed off because of his lawsuit
Jeremiah Gomez
>It's pretty crazy really.
I mean, we tend to view the US jurisdication as a very big joke ("That package didn't say I couldn't put a cat in! Where are my dollarydoos, highness?) so it's not that crazy. Though you have to be Russian for the country to not respond to the US-issued C&D anyway. If anything, it's probably the language barrier. Non-English projects don't get any sort of attention nor C&D letters.
Easton King
>Aside from the units already mentioned, is the Lexington Combat Group still around?
I think they became Ceti Hussars
Ryan Green
>ELH killed off because of his lawsuit
What now?
Easton Turner
The original creator of the ELH wasn't getting credit for his work, so he sued them for it.
Adam Murphy
Incorrect, 0/10 bait. Material of Malcolmson's was accidentally used when Warner Doles' fansite was made the official one, but he didn't create the ELH.
Lucas Williams
Yeah, and to double down on the craziness, he then decided this entitled him to sue for ownership of the entire Battletech IP. All because some of his fanwank was published on a website which then became the official site. Guy is a fucking loon.
Daniel Evans
Empires Aflame is a BT Adventures Halloween product where the PC's misjump into an alternate universe where the clans don't exist. Basically, Kerensky gets assassinated before the Exodus.
Isaiah Peterson
Tattoos are common among Iranian Zoroastrian and Muslims now. It's technically not religiously approved, but that's true for Christians too and nobody gives a shit.
>Iranian/Pakistani engineer that isn't very religious. Also kinda fat.
Uh, those are everywhere. Work in STEM and you will meet dozens of them. If anything she's a stereotype.
Hell, the fatwa on tattoos is pretty much ignored now.
Julian Thomas
>Are there any stories in BattleTech that resemble Star Trek? No, unless you mean World War 3 or the Federation-Romulan War or something. BattleTech isn't an intrinsically hopeful setting, since it started as Mad Max with mechs.
There's another module, Living Legends, that deals with the SLS Manassas misjumping into 3058 over Schwartz in the Smoke Jaguar OZ. Depending on the players' actions, the Aegis class is either scuttled or crippled during the adventure, or after when a Jag technician performs Clarkson style maintenance.
Ayden Jenkins
Xotl, we've got a question in the #battletech IRC about the Internal Bomb Bay quirk. Help us rules guy, you're our only hope.
Benjamin Long
I've got a bunch of mechs that need to be painted. Anybody know some neat color schemes? Preferably periphery.
Nathaniel Jackson
>Speaking as a Muslim, everything with us is not the same as it was 1000 years ago. Yeah if Wikipedia is to be trusted >en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islamic_Golden_Age It all got considerably worse since.
>It all got considerably worse since. Europeans and Mongols will do that.
Brayden Adams
It hasn't been retconned, afaik, but wasn't referenced elsewhere, like a lot of the Mechwarrior adventures.
Josiah Perry
Actually it did get mentioned somewhere else.
IIRC the captain blew the ship and the Jags or whoever took some prisoners but it didn't really effect anything so doesn't matter much.
Mason Morales
It is
Christian Walker
>You wouldn't need new mechanics.
Battletech is a mess, the game could do with a serious overhaul. I don't mean AS, I mean a game that keeps a similar level of detail with cleanup and fixing.
Easton Lewis
Whats the worse Battle Armor?
Hunter Bennett
What happened to the Star Leaguers? Didn't the Jaguars get killed off like right afterwards?
Eli Brown
Best is Marik and Blakist
Cappie is ok
Davion and Steiner is pig garbage death to the FedCom
Don't know about Kurita
Jeremiah Gomez
>a game that keeps a similar level of detail with cleanup and fixing.
Won't sell. It doesn't matter how much cleanup and fixing you put in. The age of detailed wargames is passing.
Isaac Green
It could work as a detailed video game, though
Cooper Scott
>Davion and Steiner is pig garbage death to the FedCom I don'y have a lot of experience with them Does this include the Grenadier?
Luke Ramirez
We're getting a videogame.
It remains to be seen how detailed it will be.
Evan Ward
There's some Battletech rules that are Fucking Stupid, no matter how you slice them.
Why is a Medium Laser less accurate at 210 meters then a Large Laser?
Detailed wargames remain nitch but around. Total War and XCOM have deep and complicated rules with a lot of fiddly bits.
Kevin Jackson
Pretty much. I think in canon it goes down towards the end of 3057.
A lot of shit was packed into 3057 to mid-3058.
Parker Garcia
Does anyone know if Chris Lewis still does BT work, or does art in any form?
Levi Martin
He's joking, Lyrans and Suns probably get the best BA.
Aiden Mitchell
I'm amazed they are covering close combat. I think this will be the first time a battletech video game ever has.
Isaiah Flores
Last I've seen were FM 3145, TRO 3145 Lyran Commonwealth and Clans.
At the time Shimmy said these two TROs were delayed due to some artist being terribly late with his work. Lewis was the best guess, since these were the most delayed TROs and the only featuring his art. Considering how bad his FM 3145 illustration is (someone post it, please) I guess he is not coming back
Isaiah Mitchell
So my question about that is was that the hunchback punching an ammo bin, or just rolling a 12 when checking to crit?
Daniel Reyes
I think it's either a ammo-bin hit or it killed the right torso and that took out the right arm.
Jordan Ward
Do the Outworlds Alliance, Marian Hegemony, Circinus Federation or Rim Collection have any mech factories?
James Sullivan
He's had a lot of whiffs, but he's also produced some fantastic work over the years. I suspect, as with a number of the other artists, that the problem is the art direction and not the artist.
Ian Gray
What era?
Kevin Sullivan
Anything up to the Jihad. IIRC that's when some of them started building factories if they didn't have any before.
Benjamin Wood
>pre-Jihad periphery manufacturing info
Good luck, what little there is is all contradictory
Connor Morales
Really? For those four states? I'm not interested in the Taurians and Canopians.
Jace Phillips
In the era you're looking at I'm pretty sure only the OA has factories for 'Mechs. Marians don't get factories until the Jihad for Primitives, Circinians relied on raiding for their gear, and the Rim Collection was all the planets the Lyrans didn't want because there was nothing worthwhile there.
Juan Thompson
The closest I know of is the factory on Pirate's Haven, which is technicanlly independent and borders between the Taurians and Circinus Federation, and manufactures the Brigand.
Elijah James
OA made the Merlin in 3010, plus some bug mechs.
Rim Collection doesn't even exist til 3048, as far as I can find they first start producing Retrotech 'Mechs at the end of the Jihad.
Circinus also didn't produce anything til the WoB helped them build a factory.
The Marians also didn't build mechs until post-Jihad.
Wyatt Ward
Alright thank.
I'm thinking of Periphery adventures outside of the Magistracy and Concordat.
Honestly I kind of miss the Rim Worlds Republic. It has great fluff. I wish a rump version of it had formed along the periphery of the Lyrans between (and including) the Collection and Circinus.
Jace Perry
>Anybody know some neat color schemes?
Team Banzai?
Christopher Hughes
You know what you must do, user.
Parker Nguyen
They shouldn't. Periphery states shouldn't be able to produce Mechs in the first place, and the tiny insignificant ones (ie, not the MOC or TC) definitely shouldn't be able to do so.
Anthony Reed
The Rim Worlds will rise again, boy.
Henry Williams
Literally any planet that can import fusion engines and computers should be able to build 'mechs. These are whole worlds with hundreds of millions of people.
Ian Cruz
FASAnomics, motherfucker
Andrew Allen
>52nd Shadow >Not 41st
So close
Austin Carter
>Literally any planet that can import fusion engines and computers should be able to build 'mechs. The old core world fuckers can't even build good water purification tech. The periphery is even worse.
>hundreds of millions of people Who usually have a high school education or less and the infrastructure of the modern Congo
Adrian Garcia
You'd think that, but welcome to battletech, where shit just doesn't make sense
