Future settings

What's your favorite type of future setting?

Mine is the world of 1970s concept art.

Authoritative dystopia, the likes of 1984, Brazil or 232.8 Celsius.

80s grim and dark neon apocalypse

>that pic looks frighteningly like my mom
>mom was also no angel
user, stop.

That's actually a nice looking car.

>What's your favorite type of future setting?
I really like the homeworld aesthetic but sometimes curves are nice too.

I love cyberpunk, where love is a luxury implant.

When shit is so advanced that technology doesn't even look like "technology" any more.

>tech so advanced

...that it looks like tits?

Okay.jpg

my favorite kind of tech

When it's so far it goes into my magical realm

I'm scared

Any setting with naked girls sitting around on roads.

I like a mix of space opera, Nivenesque megastructures (from O'Neill Cylinders up through full scale Ringworlds), and pic/thread related. I've yet to see them combined the way I'd like, which means it's up to me to do it.

>concept art
Daily reminder that pic related was real and functional control room for a whole country.

...

We could have had a sci-fi country.
Instead we got a Nazi dictator who idolised Hitler.
Thanks America!!

If Jesus was born in the 70's, burgers would have hunted him down for being a gommy.

I remember reading last year about a bunch of dipshits in the Burgerland media accusing the Pope of being a Marxist.

The 70s are still with us.

MOAR, faget

>Instead we got a Nazi dictator who idolised Hitler.
>2017
>being so uneducated to still not know what fascism is
read some more, retard

Usually Post-apoc in particular ones where humanity hit its limit and just petered out and left behind overgrown ruins.

Outside of that I'm always up for some just straightforward old fashioned raygun style shit.

>some fucker at some point delibirately went trough the effort to replace the face with a skull

>ehm, I see you made an error in terminology, thus you are a retard
Only literal autists, bitter besserwissers or facists themselves really bother to make the difference. Which one are you?

>A host body? You've got to be joking?

>the world of 1970s concept art

Whether you agree with using -punk as a suffix, it can be fun to give your game an anachronistic technological aesthetic. I'd also like to set a game in a future 1970s, but one based less on concept art and more on some of the wacky prototypes and weird science of that era.

For instance, this was the world's first digital camera, built in 1975.

>What's your favorite type of future setting?

An alternative history where Hitler was assasinated in the middle of WWII, resulting in truce between the axis and western allies, who join forces together to wreck the cccp. The Third Reich survives, peace ensues and thanks to the combined efforts of german engineers and resources from the western countries Mars is already partially colonized by the turn of the millenium.

So I guess retro-futurism?

>So I guess retro-futurism?
Your guess is wrong. It's called brain damaged stormfag's wet dream.

>I spout retarded bullshit and when I am called out for the nonsense i spread, I call the other a know-it-all

Here's your (You)

I don't know why so many alt-history plots revolve around Nazi Germany surviving the war in some fashion

Because for better of worse the 20-40's were a period if significant technological and scientific progress in Germany, but sadly a lot of that advancement was incentivized by war and intented for the purpose of warfare.

Both the american and russian space programss were largely the brainchildren of german rocket-engineers, so it's not that difficult to imagine why a lot of people can't help but to wonder how far more advanced our civilization would be if the Reich existed to this day.

>I'm so socially inept that I assume only one person disagrees with me

Because it's one of the most obviously pivotal events within living memory.

Because Nazis make great bad-guys

Roman Empire
American Civil War
WWII
The Big 3. People can't resist them.
The first and third allows you to fill in huge areas of the world map with a monoculture.

>Both the american and russian space programss were largely the brainchildren of german rocket-engineers
Don't cry when people call you out on your Nazi apologist bullshit.
Space travel using rockets was first conceptualised by Tsiolkovski, a Russian.
First rockets were prototyped and created by Goddard, an American.
It was the Nazis who were stealing scientific advancements of real nations because no real scientists could accept being bossed around by these neanderthals. "Nazi science" is a joke.

Pretty much any revolution and civil war qualify. Kingdom of French? White Russia? Socialist Spain?

Pre-Nazi German sciece was top dog, but even before the war the brain leak and culling of jewish etc. intelligentcia wreaked havoc.

It's usually the people accusing others of nazi apologismm who are the biggest crybabies

Nah, it's just that the people accusing others of Nazi apologism own the media. You're all crybabies, they just have a megaphone.

1980s/90s movie/video game/cartoon future.

youtube.com/watch?v=mWuDwNysX-A

Actually the Nazi apologists themselves really do out-crybaby everyone else. That's how they dominate /pol/: the format favours whoever can whinge and bitch and cry and just keep posting hour after hour till everyone else has moved on. Then they 'win'.

It isn't the Nazi realists who are acting like children here.

>naked
She's clearly wearing clothing.

1. Reminder that you are on the website that gave us pic related. Wehraboos are everywehr.
2. We already defeated the Soviets in the most satisfyingly capitalist means possible (goad them into a spending race and crash oil prices) and beat them to the moon, and everyone knows we could eradicate the sandniggers if we got mad enough. Vietnam, Korea, and (especially) Japan get along well enough with us these days. This means you have to go back to the Nazis to find a really useful historical enemy to mess with.

And a hat.

You say one thing.

Yet you post image evidence that directly disproves you.

She's not wearing shoes, that's the only thing that matters.

English translation when

>everyone knows we could eradicate the sandniggers if we got mad enough
I don't know that. In fact, I'm convinced that they could bring down Europe if they really wanted to. You should praise god that Trump was elected - otherwise they could own America as well.

Calling Pinochet a fascist is hardly so outrageous that it could be characterised as "retarded bullshit" tbqh

Cyberpunk

But like, semi-plausibly near-future, not deliberately retro 80s neon-up-the-arse bullshit

...

Since when did anyone say they invented the rocket dipshit? They just did things with rockets which the Americans and Russians couldn't or didn't think to. Are you really so stupid that you don't know who von Braun was? Did you not realize both the Germans and Russians built their space programs on the engineers and scientists who made missiles for the Nazis because they had experience making powerful rockets and our guys didn't?

Since when is building on the science of others something you should look down upon? Even Einstein's ideas didn't appear in a vacuum: does that mean he was stealing by building on the work of others?

I'm biting weak bait here. Lefty-/pol/ can fuck off just as fully as it's counterpart: they're saltier and just as likely to be retarded.

I like two actually.

-The awful post apocalyptic dystopia contrasted with a comfy home at at least some hypermodern stuff.
>pic related

-And the comfy utilitarian, and structured and neat, but still pretty feeling of TNG and Voyager.

some examples for the second type.

Wow, you've actually spent 8+ hours pushing your Nazi-wank on Veeky Forums. Congrats to you.

...

and this

...

...

places with scum and people without income are also possible if they look like this

or this.

Dude what he's been pushing is not nazi wank its the truth. It's even a common joke that the entire tech progress during and after the war was made by ex-nazis.
Have you seen DrStrangelove?

...

Got anymore pics of this user's mother?
For historical research purposes.

The post-war US rocket program was unquestionably aided in a great way by former Nazi rocket scientists who were inducted into the program during the 1940s and 1950s.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Paperclip

Oh no question of that, don't get me wrong. It's when user takes it to the next level of claiming
>how far more advanced our civilization would be if the Reich existed to this day
that it becomes Nazi-wank.

>mods are banning legitimate discussion under the claim of "trolling"
>abuse of power is perfectly fine, questioning it makes you a child

I can see why you'd misunderstand.

I hold one moral principle above all others, and that's "fuck Nazis"

It's not necessarily about being more advanced, more like... differently advanced.

And it's also a stupid, unfounded stereotype based on the fact that people assumed anyone who spoke with a German accent was a Nazi. In fact, by far most of the German scientists who went on to work in the US immigrated willingly, running away from the Nazis and their horrible "racially correct science". Not just the Jews, but Germans with a brain as well.

>believes ignorance is moral

Well, enjoy holding onto a flawed and deluded "principle" forced into your head through unquestionable propaganda.

>believes ignorance is moral
Oh, no, definitely not.

But fuck Nazis.

bleh

The point is that the nazis had some great inventions and scientists working for them later emigrated and invented even greater things.
Plus they had a different aesthetic.
Same reason why people like communist design.
its novel its alien

>Mathematics didn't suffer under the new regime, rather, it ceased to exist.

David Hilbert, the greatest mathematician of the XXth Century.

>I don't know that. In fact, I'm convinced that they could bring down Europe if they really wanted to.
Europe, sure, if NATO didn't get involved. Those retarded cucks barely have a military left. The US or Russia could just decide nukespam was better than negotiation and be done with the problem in a day.

>fuck Nazis because people told me to believe that!

You really are a funny thing.

>come into thread expecting cool retrofuturism art and shit
>This shit instead

Oh /pol/-/int/

Von Braun mister certainly did work on our space program, and we most certainly did wine and dine him away from the Russians

Yes wine and dine. We had soldiers whose job it was to be their friends and make them happy.

Jewish soldiers. Because German Jews made up the bulk of our native speaking interrogators.

This is all a matter of historical record.

Paperclip was not a proud moment in American history, but it was better than letting the Russians get them. Or so the thought went. It's not a matter of WANKING the third Reich, more a matter of being somewhat ashamed and disgusted of this shit, but also accepting that it happened and probably had to happen.

What do you know about my reasons to say fuck Nazis, or what I've been told?

I mean fuck Nazis, really.

m.thisamericanlife.org/blog/2016/08/behind-the-scenes-of-a-secret-interrogation-camp

Oh and here's some citation with declassified documents. There's also a 19 minute NPR program you can enjoy!

Scifi Playboy Mansion

>you flatter your date by cuing up her old MySpace profile from when she was 14
>you further show your affections by unveiling the evening's surprise - all her private Facebook messages you've lifted off her phone
>the electronic bars over the windows and doorways keep her right where you need her

Tbh once you have her in your mansion you don't need to do any of that because of the implication.

The Nazis were the culture with the most radical vision for the future aside from Walt Disney, and thus offer the most aesthestically divergent future. Pretty good as a draw for speculative fiction.

I'm this guy and despite my post was about Hitler being removed from the equation of history and the Reich being de-nazified through the alliance with the west people ITT somehow see this as ''''''nazi-apologism''''''' ?

I mean c'mon you're not even trying anymore.

Also this user has the reicht idea

>musical floor tiles
Shit, I'd spend entire afternoons trying to hopscotch my floor into playing songs. I wonder how many people you'd need to pull off a simple version of Cruel Angel's Thesis..

The kind of future setting where everything is inexplicably 80's folk music.

RETRO-FUTURE

Ray guns, jetpacks, flying cars, rocket ships, square robots with big red eyes, space colonies, food in pill form, and 50s music still being popular!

Objectively best future!

That thread was the shit.

All I know of you is that you're clinging to propaganda like you'd die without it. You believe every single demonising lie about the Nazis, which is why you've got this misplaced hatred for them. Even worse, you believe it's moral to blindly hate.

Your choice is to question authority or give yourself over to it, and you've already picked the latter.

...

I'd say my favorite is in Banks's setting. Megastructures, sassy ship intelligences that haven't moved up an energy plane because they've got a party to attend, and hoomans with antimatter reactors built into their brains.

>weird science of the 70's
Sounds like something Delta Green could do.

Jesus that carpet.

I like three different aesthetics:

>1) Grimbright Utopia/Dystopia
Think A Brave New World, or God Emperor of Dune. I like when things are futuristic, basically perfect, and people will inevitably find a way to bitch about it. I just think its so poignant that in a basically perfect setting, you'll still have dis-satisfied angsty individuals bitching about everything. It's just so quintessentially modernist, really gets my rocks off.

>2) Mundane Near Futurism
Almost like "magical realism", but what I like in particular about this type of setting is when technology is seamlessly blended into every day life. Stories become cyclical, by which I mean you can tell a story about people farming, or hanging out at a cottage, and the technology itself becomes irrelevant to the story, but also intrinsic to the narrative. I just like the hybridity of nature and technology co-existing peacefully together.

3) Gonzo far-future
Think David Cronenburg meets Tetsuo The Iron Man, but with a splash of nigh-indecipherable post-human jargon. There are various examples I can think of, but my favorite is The Engineer: Reconditioned by Neal Asher. There's this one story, something something slaughterworld? Anyways, there are these awesome symbiotic airplanes whale monsters that people travel around in, and they're described as giant living organisms that slowly assimilate non-assimilated crew members. It's like a mash-up of one of those "inner space" cartoon episodes mixed with "The Thing". Long story short, body horror + aliens/robots = good.

Pretty much. Werner von Braun has said some pretty insightful things about the Nazis in interviews, the point basically being that the Nazis were too fucking stupid to understand the value of technology. They only saw the immediate short-term value of things.

They didn't understand the value of rockets, they didn't understand the value of electric engines. All these technologies that are commonplace today were being developed in Nazi-Germany, and all the Nazis said was "DOEZ IT KILL ZE PEOPLE? NO? ZEN ITZ BAD! NO MORE VUNDING VOR YOU!"

I like the idea of a posthuman civilization specially if they steer into the infinity like 2001, 3 Suns or The Last Question.
The Nazi denied Einstein theory of relativity because he was Jewish and ´believed all kinds of pseudoscience. not to forget Himmler's esoteric.
And most academics who develodped these technologies weren't educated during the nazi time but during the Weimar Republic. The Anti-Intellectualism of Nazis were the reason why Germany academic world deteriorated.

>Your choice is to question authority or give yourself over to it, and you've already picked the latter.

It's bizarre to hear a sentence like this from a Nazi.
