Infinity General: Voltron Prototype Edition

Infinity is a 28mm scale futuristic skirmish game by Corvus Belli where this thing apparently likes to dress up as a cat or something. I guess even RC machines have their kinks.

Does anyone have a Crane Rank dossier? I could use a male Zhanshi too.

...

and now with an actual dossier.

I'm dumb and picked the wrong one.

You're not a first-gen anymore like the Zondcat, no matter how much you try to pretend otherwise. Time to grow up.

Thanks.

I swear I feel like I have seen that face before

>arr rook same
That's racist.

Skin is a bit dark, it makes them look more black than Chinese. Otherwise good work though.

Skin tone is taken directly from the movie still. Maybe light was dark in this scene or the bright orange makes them look darker.

No like I saw him specifically in some chinese flick I saw there, I just can't remember the name of the movie, much less the actor

I feel like the skin might be a bit darker though, and the hair is off too, supposed to be black

I dunno, even considering lighting their skin still seems a fair bit darker, especially hers.

I can understand the hair thing. When you use black outlines for everything it's generally better to stick to dark grey and pretend that it's black.

It's the shitty shading from early studio paintjobs :v

I like this. I like it a lot. Eat an apple today, I want you to live a long life.

Somehow I'll

make Guilang

out of you!

>not "make HI" to go with the Zuyongs
you gaylang

At least Guilang sort of rhymes with "a man," albeit a slant rhyme. You take your HI out of here, Guilang are badass anyways. (plus, IIRC, they're Zhanshi who had a lot hard training so even more appropriate.

The re-use faces a lot. I swear they use that Brad Pitt looking face on just about everything.

>At least Guilang sort of rhymes with "a man,"
That's an awfully interesting translation. guǐ-láng (鬼狼) is pronounced a bit like "g'w-hey lán", and doesn't rhyme with man at all.

But who knows. Maybe in the future the pronunciation will be like that. I mean, CB poorly translates the Hac Tao as well.

I mean, last I checked, the sound of a word pronounced somewhere between lung and lang is closer to a long "a" finished with an "n" in man than an "I" to man. And they do mess up with weird made up names, and IIRC, one of the names has a sort of chinese typo in the logo.

which tiger soldier versions should be used? hacker, the spitfire one ? one with combi seems rather meh.

"Wolf" is most closely pronounced the way Germans sometimes pronounce the surname Lange, like /ˈlɒŋi/, where the "a" is pronounced as in the word "palm" and the "g" is almost imperceptibly separate from the "e".

Any of the above. Personally I find that the BSG Tiger has the best pose, but mechanically, the hacker and spitfire both have uses, given the Tiger's WIP 14 and BS 13. The paramedic version is also a somewhat cheaper specialist.

Of the three, if I'm not using the points elsewhere, I'd probably go for the spitfire, but only because I typically use the Daofei AH.

what is a daofel ?

It's the Hac Tao's little brother. Essentially it's a camouflage/infiltration heavy infantry in the ~50 point range. He's not cheap, but he synergizes very well with other units, particularly the 27 point Guilang FO with deployable repeater. He's a pretty tough roadblock when deployed in the midfield, hopefully forcing your opponent to get bogged down trying to dislodge a tough HI or maneuver around into the rest of your awaiting guys.

Basically whatever's not the basic combi+LFT non-specialist option.

The boarding shotgun option is a great bang for buck killing piece who would absolutely disrupt your enemy by hitting on 19's in optimal ranges, with mimetism and cover to protect it. Hit that against cheerleaders or medium value pieces and it can wreck havoc between the AP mode or the template mode.

The spitfire version is a different beast, but still quite the power piece. Burst 4 high damage shots with BS 13 and mimetism is nothing to scoff at and will likely makes its points back by hitting people from behind, just straight up out shooting someone else, or just being a heavy weapon.

The hacker version is a great specialist option that can be a general nuisance as well, it can get into the face of heavies, possibly possess TAGs, or do a spotlight against a person so you can guide some ammunition to their way. Also, in general, being a WIP 14 specialist is convenient to grab objectives. That Combi+LFT is nothing to forget about either, flamer can easily disrupt a light link team, burn some Tohaa or other fire sensitive troops, and be useful, and then the combi can go to suppressive fire to lock down an area, hopefully setting -9 to your opponent because you're in cover.

Paramedic is a guardian angel, who can swoop in and say "heroes never die" to your valuable mid field guys, and after that still have room to burninate, kill from a flank, and take objectives. Quite the bargain. That two point upgrade is worth it.

Multi-Sniper version is debatably useful. Think of it as "strategos level x" where you can deploy it in your own deployment zone, with Multi-terrain, and it's still a BS 13 sniper platform with mimetism, with cover an effective armor 5, decent ranges to most, and that's commendable, or, it can save its deployment for later and get into a niche spot in a flank and deal damage that way, although that does make it wee order inefficient but cases can be made for it.

Spitfire is for flanking and killing people, shotgun is similar but cheaper and shorter ranged, hacker can of course hack but is also used for objectives. A combi rifle going into suppressive fire in an inconvenient location can present a very good roadblock for your opponent, and the flamethrower is nice too. But yeah it's more of a backup weapon for the hacker or paramedic.

>Paramedic is a guardian angel, who can swoop in and say "heroes nev-whoops didn't mean to do that please resume breathing sir" to your valuable mid field guys
ftfy

ok thank you are for clearing up stuff.

Ip man 1, the vagabond outsider that fights ip in his house and breaks his shit.

user, not everyone gets to have Medic+. Sometimes we just have to be happy to have WIP 14 and not be a trauma-doc.

...

Only docs get to use their WIP. I'd love a Tiger Soldier doctor, but paras only prompt a PH-3 roll that is honestly not very good.

It's a clutch thing that you'd rather have and not need than need and not have. It can definitely revive the likes of the HI that Yu Jing is prone to using, like Domaru, Hsien, Hac Tao, Daofei, and Shikami who can all easily pass that on 11's, where they might not otherwise have access to a downed doctor. Otherwise it's a 2 point upgrade to make it a specialist option, which is still worthwhile in most ways.

>on 11's
that's worse than trauma-doc tier

That's why I said it's a clutch thing

I just realized that my local big tabletop wargaming event won't be having Infinity games this year. (They had some last year, but I wasn't that big into Infinity yet and went to play a doubles tournament with my buddy in 40k). Replaced by Guildball and Malifaux. I'm not totally surprised because from what I remember last year it was at most 16 infinity players, but still... I was wishing to go do something this year.

Cubes are more important that WIP when it comes to doctorin

Where?

16 players seems fine, not enough to cancel over.

>still fail the reroll
>tfw when all you achieved was waste a command token

It always bothered me that the mout region of that helmet didnt look like an Iron Man-esque mouthslit.

But now I realise that it actually looks like a birds beak. Fits the name, but I don't know how I feel about this. I think I'd still paint the chinpiece a different color to get the stylized mouth across.

You could say that about any poor dice roll.

You spent a resource to gain a probability of success.

I'm talking about Crucible Orlando
The 16 I remember was for the main event on the main day. There were two other events, something where it was like 3 people for the first (some weird short narrative scenario thing on Friday), and 6 for the other. I can understand canceling those two, but I'm a bit bummed out with there being no infinity at all.

I don't always attempt a classified objective with my Ninja hacker, but when I do, I fail the first try, try again with another order, and fail that too. Flipping Espionage is the bane of my existence for what should otherwise be an easy classified. Third order usually gets it though, but that's just annoying and even then it often doesn't. It makes me tempted to field EVO remotes just for that classified so I could reroll the damned check without wasting all the orders in my second combat group.

You should use evos, they're amazing

Don't worry, I'll get to it, it's just 25 points can often find itself swapped elsewhere in JSA. I usually find myself worrying about fitting a Rui Shi or Raiden

Are the 2-players operation boxes good way to start? Not sure if i want to buy them just to play a few games and abbandon the game.

Absolutely, they are both excellent startup points and the missions do a good job of teaching game mechanics without overwhelming

Indeed it is. I've yet to see a two player starter done better, and they've got two of them.

Although, it is kind of weird that the Father Knight's very prominent sword that shines bright blue with explosive force gets simplified to a knife in the starter ruleset of Icestorm. Red Veil has better terrain IMO.

The dice included with all of them have poor balance, best get your own once you start playing more seriously.

Sell me on Raiden. People seem to have a huge boner for him, I just can't see the point of limited camo compared to proper infiltrators, even the cheap minelaying HRL. (yes I know JSA doesn't get camo infiltrators, but I come from Shasvastii background and wonder why you'd use that shit instead of another drone).

>Sell me on Raiden
The Raiden is pretty good for 21 points. It was 19 points pre-HSN3, so it was almost an auto-include for me if I wasn't bringing a sensor bot along.
- X-visor HRL means B2 fire templates at +0 up to 48" away, which is unique in YJ. You need to get up to 28, 33 or 36 points (Zhangying, Wu Ming, Zuyong) before you get another blast template, and those are all B1 missile launchers, the first two of which are more efficient in their sectorial links..
- minelayer obviously means a deployment shell game, which makes the limited camo a bit more effective.

WARNING!

The warning rule states that the model may turn freely to modify its LoF so that the attacker that caused the ARO is within it.

What if the attacker is in total cover, and a direct LoF is impossible? Can I still turn my warned trooper in a way that his 180° arc is turned towards the general direction of the attacker, even if he is hidden?

I darkened shade on hair and eyes, maybe that will look better.
Also fixed some minor oversights.
I wanted this to be thread OP, but I was not quick enough.

I think it's grandiose, but I too would like to see the skin just a couple of shades brighter

So I'm newish, and today I learned a trick from a veteran while playing.

I had an unconscious trooper, and "north" of him a standing Ninja.

"South" of the unconscious guy was a hostile Nomad I think Spekr with Boarding Shotgun. He simply targeted my unconscious guy with massive bonus MODs to the shot due to range, and the impact template blasted into my Ninjas face.

Awesome.

Yu Jing Numbah One!!

If you play as YJ you can do that with your own Kuang Shi.

Nevah surrendah!!

Yah I know, direct templates, but he was using an impact template which he anchored on an easy-to-hit inbetween target.

Bit cleverer than the pretty obvious direct template variant.

No no, I mean the Biolocator rule.
>Spending one Short Skill, this piece of Equipment allows its bearer to automatically enter into the Targeted state for his own army. The adversary cannot benefit from this Targeted state.
>The bearer of an active Biolocator (in the Targeted state) can be targeted by friendly troopers.
So you'll be getting a +3 on top of that.

I think that user means you can use a biolocator on your own Kuang Shi and then shoot it with an impact template.

OOOOoooh

That is amazing. Kuang Shi are amazing. Fuck ethics.

>Fuck ethics.

That's the Yu Jing motto!

I think the back of the gun, y'know, with the dots, should be grey or some other color that isn't orange like the armor.

That's the everyone motto. Only difference is that YJ decided to take their skeletons out of the closet and display them proudly.

I'd argue haqq, nomads and ariadna aren't exactly subtle in how they display their skeletons either.

Haqq likes to go on about how humanist and friendly it is, and it certainly has no association with those naughty Hassassins who publicly murder people. The slave trading and all that is kept quiet.

.....the monofilament CCW is a lightsaber?

hassassins, janissaries slave soldiers, gazis, ahl fassed prison corps, djanbazan, bashi bazouks...

they're not quite yu jing level, but the spice has to flow

Apparently.

Alternatively I'd like to offer this example of a cyberpunky explanation what it could be. From the first Deus Ex game. Some spoilers.

"The Dragon's Tooth is a nanotechnologically constructed blade that is dynamically forged on command into a non-eutactic solid. It was developed around 2052 in VersaLife's Hong Kong laboratories, who discovered a way to mix nanotechnology and traditional metals, and the original prototype was used to help start a war between two prominent Triads, the Luminous Path and the Red Arrow. JC is allowed to keep the prototype by the Triads for his own use for the rest of the game.

The blade itself is non-eutactic and made of pure nanomechanical machines. VersaLife inserted iron rods into the carbon framework of the nanites (electromagnetically manipulated microscopic scanners, cleaners, and hammers) which continuously move over the surface of the blade, dynamically forging it on command."

It also only consists of a grip when inactive, and when active the blade is all shiny and stuff. Food for thought.

Wait, there are people who don't paint their agents' CCWs as Dragon Teeth?

That's such a fucking good game still, holy shit.

ooh, I missed that one. Is the full collection of those posted anywhere? The original gallery died a few years ago :|

Ah, nanomachines. Of course.

Fuck yeah

Do the Engineer and AHD Wildcat profiles see a lot of use in any link teams? I need to know because I tend to paint specialists with minor differences to differentiate them from other similar troops (in this case different Tron line colors).

Of course, they're specialists in a short range link. I use the hacker more often but the engi can be good too.

Is there a TTRPG game for this? Is it fun?

There's one in development currently.

what's the guy with rocket shoes?

Awesome. Hope its not an indecipherable clumsy piece of shit like Anima was.

He looks like he's wearing a version of PanO armour. Maybe something commercially available to civilians. He's certainly brandishing a PanO pistol, but judging by biker ABH and KHD Druze, PanO weaponry is somewhat popular among mercenaries.

Core book will supposedly be finished by end of this month.

Leaving this here. For when you feel the urge to play a game that doesn't sucks and doesn't pander to Furries.

...

So people told me here that daofei and hac tao are awesome, and I should get them. I bought a hmg hac tao and hmg dao fei, but now am looking at the army list and I can't find neither one. I know they are yu jing because the blisters have the yu jing icon. Is the army builder old or something?

>and doesn't pander to Furries.
>what 2016 Tzeench release is

Are you sure you haven't locked into either ISS or JSA? They are vanilla units found in the HI section. They have been a part of the army for a while so should show up in even old versions of Army.

>Core book will supposedly be finished by end of this month.
>estimated delivery: Feb 2016
:^)

Infinity manga pre-purchase from 13 march to 4 april, pre-purchase includes a miniatura of knaut(the pano-sniper guy with the TO camo cloak)

I do play ISS. So am I to understand they can't use those two? that is stupid, I bought two models I cant use now ;/

Hac Tao is easy to find due to his Ying Yang symbol. Daofei is just left of him.

Well I guess you should have thought about that. Can't you return them? Otherwise you have a reason to dabble in vanilla YJ now I guess.

Yup, they're vanilla only. You could always play some vanilla since you've already got the models. You don't need to always stick to one specific sectorial.

I don't want to play vanila yu jing because it has japaness units in it. I want pure Chinesse or better yet Korean army.
And I can't return the models the blisters are already opened and I assembled them.
It is stupid that some models are limited to sectorials, in the description of the units both the daifei and hac tao work with the imperial police force. If they can't be taken in ISS, then ISS has no TO units, when other armies have a lot of those.

>I don't want to play vanila yu jing because it has japaness units in it
just don't take any japs

The vanilla list can represent the ISS working with regular elements in the yu jin army. Since japanese are second/third class citizens, them being excluded from anyone's force is not that strange.

You can just not play with Japanese units. It's not like you're forced to use them.

>Anima
>an indecipherable clumsy piece of shit
Upskill urself me laddo.

>someone made a joke about drawing porn of the characters
>Kenny Ruiz liked it

You started a sectorial, a sub-faction that's pretty much defined by not having certain in-faction units. You should've asked for ISS models, not Yu Jing models (otherwise you're gonna get Guilangs and Tigers recommended too).

And I started from the same point and jot the Japs (which I hated) anyway, give it some time or a good offer :P
