Veeky Forums makes a sci-fi setting

The fastest and cheapest FTL method involves traveling through enormous wormhole gates.

The only known intelligent life other than humans are a conglomerate group of various alien species, with which communication attempts have failed.

humans are treated like the kikes during third reich germany

The main currency is thought.

Humanity ARE the kikes since the setting involves space-time folding in on itself through alternate dimensions in such a way that humanity is superimposed on historical groups.

Countless generations in diverse and alien environments millions of light years from Sol, combined with prodigious genetic engineering and no small amount of transhumanism, have divided mankind into dozens of subspecies and evolutionary offshoots.

Pure humans are comparatively rare, though they're the most numerous race. The extent of subspecies variation from humans ranges from the addition cat ears and a tail to help a population better survive a jungle death world, to genetically engineering perfectly healthy fetuses to develop into almost eldritch sack of organs designed for high intelligence and processing skills, and the ability to operate in zero gravity environment and the void of space

An unknown race's attempts at time travel have lead to numerous "paradox events," vast rifts in spacetime some theorize lead to alternate timelines or even other universes entirely.
No probe or ship entering one has ever come out.

During FTL travel, there is no sensory output (sound, touch, taste, ect..) and all sense of time is lost.

Thought currency is held in intricately patterned, small chrome orbs. When someone wears these orbs, their thoughts and to some extent, their memories are recorded in them.

Others who wear the same orbs will slowly gain the thoughts and memories of the one who originally wore them, allowing them to indulge in experiences they never would otherwise and learn difficult skills much faster.

These orbs are crafted by an elusive guild of scholarly nanomechanists called the "Frateris De Veritas," or "Seekers Of Truth" in ancient Latin. No one knows where the Frateris De Veritas is based, how they recruit new members, or even who they are, as they all wear silvery nanoweave veils and void-black cloaks to conceal their identity.

Antiquated kinetic weapons are the most popular killing tools among humanity's many descendents, because they're cheap, efficient, and reliable, unlike more expensive, delicate, and finicky modern laser and plasma designs.

> Pic, very related.

Much of the attempted genocide imposed on humanity by unknowable aliens isn't an attempt to destroy them, but rather, an attempt to research and understand just why space-time curves around certain human individuals like it does.

Although other life is still (very) present in the galaxy/universe, intelligent or not.
Because of rifts and folds in space-time, creatures from other eras are mish-mashed and spliced in with other sentient beings. But this occurrence is EXTREMELY rare.

These wormholes are made by literal space worms; gargantuan tubes of ethereal beings that tunnel through space. Under no circumstances are you to stand in front of a Worm while it's 'burrowing' a new wormhole.

Humans do not exist in this setting. At least, not as we know them.

Because survival of the fittest has ceased, humans have been passing on bad genes, diseases and other disorders for millenia, culminating in a race of sickly cronenberg monsters reliant on vast amounts of invasive medical technology to keep them alive.

another idea:

Space explorers are hyper-advanced AI, because FTL travel slays all living organisms onboard when the jump is made. Radical pseudoscientists claim the FTL jump severs the bodies connection with the soul, but what do they know?

The Unbidden have invaded the Galaxy

There is a region known as the Valmolk expanse, a vast unexplored region where wormhole gates are few and/or rare

>Humans do not exist in this setting. At least, not as we know them.

Seems I spoke too late.

Perhaps the unknowable aliens are in fact human-creatures from the far future, exploiting the time warps in an attempt to correct their mistakes.

The Unbidden are currently fighting a bloody stalemate with the alien conglomerate. They're on the far of the galaxy, and are largely unknown by humanity, save for a few unsettling rumors and traveler's tales.

Building on this:

The Valmolk Expanse is devoided of life due to that being the origin point for the Unbiddens entrance to the galaxy.

With most of the Jurghali Empire's neighbors wiped out by the Unbidden, they have boldly and quickly colonized the now neutral space before the Unbidden can claim it.

For now the Jurghali navy can repel the random armada or two that stray into the new sector, however it's an arms race for the Jurghali to build up before they really catch the Unbidden's attention.

The Jurghali are highly militaristic and imperialistic. They believe they are the supreme master race, and that it is their destiny to rule over the galaxy and all within it. The Jurghali have 3 genders necessary for reproduction, and usually give birth to litters.

They are carnivorous by nature, they avoid potential food crisises by farming and consuming insects, synthetic, lab-grown meat is seen as a delicacy like ice-cream in human culture, and genuine animal meat is something only the rich can afford.

The Jurghali Emperor is worshiped as a God-King, and xis word is law. The position of Emperor isn't hereditary, rather, when a sitting Emperor dies, it goes to the most genetically advanced, intelligent, and athletic specimen in the Jurghali civilization. Jurghali don't use wormhole gates, preferring "Ziebas," an FTL drive that twists space-time, rapidly propelling a vessel to the nearest star system, which may or may not have summoned the Unbidden to begin with.

They communicate with one another using incomprehensible cacaphonies static noise, which they transmit into one another's minds via touch. They have extremely developed senses of touch, taste, and smell, but their eyesight and hearing are poor by human standards.

The sickly, once-human abominations are a human subspecies that developed after a few centuries of living in a barely terraformed moon colony in the fringes of human space, exposed to cosmic radiation and the ravages of inbreeding. The moon is rich in platinum, and many other rare minerals, but they are the only ones whose bodies are capable of surviving the moon's poisonous, sulfuric air, and the moon's strange magnetic field disables almost all advanced machines in the atmosphere, necessitating human labor.

Humanity isn't just divided into many subspecies, mankind follows countless political ideals and religious ideologies, there are hundreds of seperate competing nations and countless independent systems, all feuding, raiding, and trading with one another.

There is a race of space nomads who are considered a minor annoyance for most empires, as they often drop out of the wormhole gates unannounced and they just set up their massive their ships in a similar fasion as one would park a campver van in your backyard.

But somehow they are one of the most technological advanced races in the galaxy, but their attidtude on life is very layed back, the same goes for the concern for other races.

The nomads are mechanical savants in every sense of the word, able to jury-rig functional machines out of rusted scrap and garbage with ease, let alone if they have actual tools and parts. Otherwise, they aren't very intelligent, and aren't prone to deep philosophical thought.

They are known for their craftsmanship, and make some of the finest scrimshaw, moonshine, and primitive firearms in the galaxy, which they trade along with their machines to other races in exchange for supplies, spare parts, and fuel.

To them, family is everything, they would die in an instant to protect their relatives, and go to the ends of the galaxy to avenge the murder of a family member. They live in families of 8-50 and live in loosely united clans of 2-10 families, which occupy the same ship and cooperate to make ends meet.

Ah, Mosin-Nagant. Recovered one of these in Iraq that was like, October Revolution old.

Still worked perfectly.

Truly, it is the weapon that will conquer the final frontier.

The reason communication between humanity and the aliens is impossible isn't because of any insurmountable cultural or biological differences, but rather, a difference in origin. Every intelligent species in the galaxy can trace its genetic lineage to a single source; the Progenitors.

In a time before time, when the universe was still young and growing, the Progenitors evolved on a small planet in the fringes of the galaxy, becoming one of the first intelligent species to exist. They were extremely intelligent and wise, without any competition, they flourished and spread across the galaxy, forging great monuments and wondrous technologies.

Eventually, the Progenitors achieved enlightenment and discovered the key to ascend to higher, non-material dimensions, and they decided to leave the material universe behind. Before they left, the Progenitors traveled across the galaxy, terraforming planets and suitable moons to sustain life, and seeded them with bacteria capable of one day evolving into intelligent species, as an eternal testament to their ingenuity and culture.

> (cont)

The Progenitors then ascended, leaving nothing behind but their beautiful monuments, ancient technology, and living legacy. Over time, the bacteria did evolve, and eventually became the intelligent alien species of today. The aliens saw the awe-inspiring monuments and wondrous relics, they saw the genetic similarities between themselves and other aliens, they realized the power of the Progenitors, and worshiped them as deities, or acknowledged them as their parent species.

For some time, the aliens believed that all intelligent life-forms came from the Progenitors, but then came humanity, ambitious, enduring, and fanatically loyal to their ideals, they seemed to be an excellent addition to the galaxy as a whole. But upon further inspection, the aliens were horrified to discover that humanity evolved into intelligence on its own, without the seed of the Progenitors. The aliens believe that the humans are at best, unnatural aberrations, and at worst, soulless demons, and are terrified of them.

These worms are docile, but highly dangerous if provoked.

These nomads are known as the Ungeb.

There's an area in the depths of space without stars, planets, or indeed anything at all. Just a black absence of everything. It's believed to be safe to cross, but nearly all species (barring humans and some species not yet able to travel space, and one alien species which is born thoroughly insane.) feel excessively unwelcome when entering the area and most navigational systems barring suitably primitive ones automatically correct the course to move away from the area, throwing a gibberish error message if intentionally attempting to plot course within the area. Old starship captains call the area Starseed Void.

Parallel universes are proven to be genuine, and accessible simply by exiting the boundaries of the current universe.

The afforementioned race of beings who are born mad are actually just born with the sort of disposition more common in anime protagonists, with very similar consequences. They are yet to hear of earthling's anime.

Okay. Here are the Korezi Chancellorship. They are a peaceful trading empire which controls a small amount of worlds, but, they have lots of orbitals, and also maintain a neutral status in most galactic affairs, but, some do mercenary work. They are Reptillian Humanoids, similar to this Stellaris Portrait. They are a peaceful government, ruled by a chancellor who serves for about 3 years until being re-elected.

Most are irreligious, and are famed for the Korezi Peacekeepers, who provide aid and relief to members of conflicts, or negotiate to prevent it. Sometimes they are in combat, but it can be rare. Their homeworld is Korezor.

bump.

An entire religion is based around attempting to find the Progenitor's enlightenment and ascend to higher dimensions.

Every spacefaring species has, at some point in their history, invented the game of Tetris.

In many regions, licking doorknobs is illegal, if it isn't on one's home planet.

Bumping for potential.

Temporary time travel to the future is possible, but destroys organic life. The only solution is to create a modular life support platform to house the nervous system and organs that are unaffected. Scouts must sacrifice their bodies to transplant themselves into them. They eventually go insane due to lack of sensory input, but can return and affect causality with their data.
