Infinity General - "You walked into the Wong Neighborhood" edition

Infinity is a 28mm scale futuristic skirmish game by Corvus Belli where you're not sure if you're better off in Huang Di or Svalarheima despite it being the same desolate icy planet.

How to be samurai?

First for deploying a bunch of Speculos in there and blaming it all on filthy Muslim Fidays.

...aaaand some of them fucked up the infiltration roll.

Who >rumbleonroute66 here?

You take a Domaru and Neko Oyama and put them in a link with 3 Haramaki

Then you walk them up the board and get them to cc with literally anything

>WELCOME TO THE RICE FIELDS, MOTHER FUCKER

Some new RPG art.

...

Is that a loup garou jacket?

Did you wander in from /owg/?

Googled it just in case and turns out it's an event.

So colorful. I like it. Is that on Varuna?

The second one is.
Also it reveals that there are flying dronbots.

>hover dronbots
Yes please daddy CB.

No, but I'll be
>adepticon

speaking of hover dronebots, I finished this Meteor Zond recently.

Why is this so good? What am I missing?

So I'm looking into infinity and I have a few questions.

1. How is the faction balance in the game? Combined Army is by far my favorite faction after looking at them all, how do they stack up? I'm ok with have a slightly suboptimal army but I don't want to find myself with the equivalent of 40k Orks.
2. I'm looking at the 300pts onyx contact force box, is that a good starting point? Are there any models I should pick up after getting it?
3. I know that the rules are free online but is there any value in getting the physical books? I didn't see a mega for pdfs like other generals have so other than a reprint of the basic rules and fluff I don't know what's in them.
4. Any good places to watch batreps?

1: Armies are very well balanced. CA are good.

2: Onyx box is good value and good for the Onyx sub-faction, but there are some things in it I wouldn't take in vanilla. Still pretty good for starting though.

3: Fluff and the novelty of actually owning the book are the only reasons I've found to get the books. They're not even that good for rules since there are some rules released between books.

4: Check the OP

1. Balance is mostly excellent. Just don't take the Shasvastii as pure sectorial, if you want to then just run vanilla CA with heavy Shas presence.
2. It's good. As for the second question, previous thread:
>
Ikadrons/Imetrons, Unidron special weapon box, Umbra Samaritan, Malignos hacker, Noctifer. Ignore those that already appear in the giant box, cba to look it up.
3.
>reprint of the basic rules and fluff
That's basically it, if you don't care about fluff or a better-quality rules book then feel free to ignore them.

1 - Combined Army is a good faction, the only advice is stay away from the Shasvastii sectorial. Using some Shas in your other lists is ok but the sectorial itself (i.e. a list composed rougly 90% Shasvastii) is really bad due to not being updated by CB since forever. It's gonna get an update in the next book, which means roughly between Christmas 2017-summer 2018.
The other sectorials and vanilla are all ok though.

2 - The box is a good starting point. Other suggestions to expand it are the Support box with Dr. Worm, Unidron SWC box if you like them, maybe a TAG (Sphinx, Xeodron, Overdron are all pretty good). Much depends if you want to stay into the Onyx sectorial or you decide to go Vanilla.

3 - Phisical books are only for the fluff but you can find some of it online, like here
mega.nz/#F!8pRURayK!Kj16fd7nQhEcaId8hKD4oA

4 - Beast of War made some nice batreps aimed for beginners. There's also che channel Gaming with the Cooler. Idk about others but surely there are more.

Well using Neko in CC while in a link he would get 5 attacks at ph+4, plus if you really want to kill something dead you can activate beserk to make those normal rolls and just take the hit

That is 5 guaranteed hits with an explosive ccw with damage 18

Now if you started within 4 inches of the enemy they will be swinging at -9 and you will swing at +3 because of berserk and MA3

If you're within 8 you can assault instead, which is a crazy long range and will put them at a -6

You will crit on 13s too

It's literally the single most deadly thing in the game

Faction Balance is pretty good. Generally you'll see at least an 8% representation of every generic, with small skews of having some over 12.5% and different sectorials (themed subfactions of a larger faction with limited options but certain bonuses) may not show sometimes. I think currently Nomads, Combined Army, and Yu Jing are the most popular factions, but the margins in which they are represented over others isn't that much.

Generally games are not so much about whom you field, but rather what you do with what you've got.

The most suboptimal army is generally agreed to be the Shasvasti subfaction of Combined Army, where you're likely but not necessarily better off fielding Shasvasti heavy vanilla army. Even then people get decent success, for example, IIRC the top player in the USA plays Shasvasti a lot.

2. The Onyx contact force 300 box is definitely a convenient and solid place to start. To supplement them, 100% the first thing you'll want "Dr. Worm" and his assistants (the combined army support box) who'll be your source of doctor/engineer to fix your people/bots up conveniently. Umbra Samaritan is also a cool profile although a bit too flashy as an actual model. For some reason I see people fielding the Overdron plasma sniper a lot when playing Onyx so if that big guy is your style you might like him.

3. The main value is that the physical books includes fluff (over the atmosphere and units in the game) and physical presence (some people like the books like boobs, in their hands and not on a screen). The rules are 100% the same verbatim.

4. There are some youtube channels in the OP. I like Guerilla Miniatures Games the most, personally. Also Miniwargaming used to do some but they've since stopped

You may have gotten the numbers mixed up. Berserk grants a +6 bonus to yourself rather a -6 penalty to the foe. And assault gives a -3 penalty to you, not your opponent.

You may want to have another look at the rules.

Thanks for the help guys, I'll see about picking up the contact force here soon.

Yeah that doesn't seem right.

Regardless, Neko kills shit dead. No doubt. But delivering stuff in Infinity to CC seems to be the issue to me, not beating stuff up when I get there.

Yep, you're absolutely correct, still, the lethality is insane

If you make a nice smoke path for them they'll make it, just gotta get within 8 inches and assault will get you there

Maybe take yojimbo or get some nimbus from a shikami

Still don't know if it's enough user. From my (albeit, limited experiences) in the game so far CC is pretty dead.

For example, I've smoked way to CC before--then had an ARO from an enemy shoot me while engaged. Even with the harsh negative, once you get range band and they know their guy is dead to Neko or whomever anyways--might as well shoot some AROs there because you can't even declare a short second skill worth a shit.

Wish CC was a bit better. From my limited experiences so far, it's either TO Hidden Camo or Decoy or you aren't doing much.

I would like to tack on radio free neoterra to the list of batreps. Their videos are pretty short and have a little commentary to cover the effects of tactics and units in the video

Those who live by the sword die by the gun.
Really though more chances to use my MO knights pretty swords would be cool as fuck. Don't have a problem with the uberfallkammando though.

Honestly, while it's cool for close combat, nothing beats the 1 Domaru LT, 2 Haramaki Contender/Blitzen, 2 Haramaki Missile Launcher bunker team.

Mugen works better in a duo link. You still get a +1 burst to your melee attacks if both members of a duo are in melee.

But I want to Samurai my enemy!

Some live some die by the way of the samurai

Delivered as promised.

Fuck you for giving me nostalgia

They look like they're crying angrily.

Isn't that how Caledonians cry?

Oh ALEPH...

You do realize samurai were archers and gunners when they got the chance to, right?

That said Domaru are functionally less melee troops and more close quarters dominance pieces. Being monstrous in CC is just a part of how they achieve it. Get within their ZoC and they have so many ways to fuck you up.

The Domaru-Haramaki fireteam really doesn't need to be delivered because they are the aegis and delivery system for the rest of the army. They stake out the ground and their opponents have to deal with them. Get Spitfire in and you've got an active turn kill team. While the cc can be ridiculous, it's just another aspect that makes them good.

Post that one model that is really awesome looking but utterly useless on the table.

I've been told Geckos are designed to be used with coordinated orders... I wonder if it would work for those guys.

These yours?

...

And if we're not counting obsoletes...

I'm sure someone might fight me over this, but Mushashi was more of a vanity purchase.

Personal runner up for ones I personally own: Khawarij Rifle+LSG Lt.

>I like Guerilla Miniatures Games the most, personally

The production quality is high but just know that Ash is pretty terrible with the rules.

Still worth watching, but it's important to realize that when you start actually playing with people who know what they are doing.

Most of his goofs, gaffs, and spoofs get called out in the comments.

>nothing beats the 1 Domaru LT, 4 Haramaki Missile Launcher bunker team
ftfy

Does yu jing even have any decent multi sniper platforms other than sun tse?

Both Khawarij sculpts. The old model drew me into the game and I was so dissapointed when i worked out how poor he was.

Guy who hasn't played since mid-N2 here, how does the Haqq half of Red Veil stack up in terms of long-term usability?

Debating picking it up just for the value even though I don't have a Haqq player to split it with, but if most of the Haqq models are going to be shelf warmers I might just get the YJ stuff on it's own instead.

Ghulams are Ghulams, they're exactly what you'd expect: slightly above-average line troops. The Khawarij is still just as underwhelming as it was in N2, but it's still playable. In my experience, the Zhayadin has been a monster, though my impression seems to be different from most people's. The Tuareg is a solid TO infiltrating sniper, though I wish it were the doctor or hacker instead. the Al Fasid is a beast.

Overall, I think it's a solid set of models if you're interested in Haqqislam, but I don't know that there's anything that would sell the faction to somebody that's on the fence about it.

I wouldn't say Sun Tzu 2.0 is good. He drops like a sack of shit against an HMG, which would be okay if he wasn't an obvious lieutenant and didn't cost 60 points.

It is strange how they sculpted the shit loadout twice instead of any good loadouts. Even a panzerfaust would have been better. Still, it at least allows me to proxy any of the better ones.

Ghulam are Ghulam. You can't go wrong with a few order monkeys.

Zhayedan are weird, but not bad. The breaker rifle profile is the good one, it's extremely potent at short range since it ignores cover and prompts both an ARM roll and a half-BTS roll thanks to the weird way marksmanship L1 works.

Khawarijs are pretty good flankers (spitfire) or button pushers (doc). Remember to super jump, it is the lifeblood of that unit.

Tuaregs are standard TO camo infiltrators. Sniper is okay thanks to the low SWC investment and TO camo, but better to use it as a doctor or hacker imo.

The Al Fasid is a very effective and versatile attack piece with mines, grenades and smoke to back up its HMG.

Overall, pretty decent. Perhaps some role overlap between the Zhayedan and Khawarij, but not too much.

>prompts both an ARM roll and a half-BTS roll thanks to the weird way marksmanship L1 works.
Sexy, I wasn't sure if they stacked like that.
>Khawarijs are pretty good flankers (spitfire) or button pushers (doc).
And they gave us the rifle loadout. Not like I can't mod it but REEEEEEEEEE.
Taureg will probably get her sniper trimmed down so she can be a specialist.

Alright I'm reasonably sold, buying all the YJ stuff and the terrain pack would only have been like $20 cheaper anyway.

I started Haqqislam due to RV and I think it has good longevity. Especially considering how the Haqqislam side is basically a starter for the future Ramah Taskforce sectorial.

Haven't used the Khawarij much, and the Zhayedan's been picked less often because I've been fielding the Ayyar or Fidayin its place but I like them.

Most I've done with a Khawarij (and Tarik even) is suicide to kill a doctor/engineer or heavily wounded big target or get them up high, prone, and toss grenades on things below.

I'm looking forward to Ramah since they'll get a fireteam of some sort and word about is a HRL loadout.

How competitive would a Yu Jing army with a Guija, Invincibles, and some other heavy infantry be? I'm getting into the game and I really like those particular models.

making a Corrigador list for BioTechVore.
you know what time it is
youtube.com/watch?v=xGISX9EwGFA

With a Guijia I'd bring two HI at most, preferably just one. TAGs are efficient with the orders they're given, but they're so expensive in points that the rest of your list often needs to be cheaper. Probably best to stick to cheaper HI like Zuyong. I definitely wouldn't take anything more than 50pts alongside a TAG.

Honestly if you're just starting I wouldn't recommend a TAG. They can be hard to use.

All the tags with the little man arms freak me out =(

Kawarijh can dodge like a fucking madman.

He's literally plow throught 1 wound unit like no tomorrow, you just have to play him right

>Hating not!Landmates

How is it, to live with a chronic dose of shit taste?

Either you spam heavies or you go TAG. Technically you could pump your list full of Kuang Shi then have the other half be all power armour, but it would kind of suck since you'd lack a support setup for the Guija and be vulnerable to having all the pawns picked off.

What do you guys think of this list? Just wanted to use the Seraph along with as much of the starter box as possible. I think its pretty good, the father knight is a powerful specialist, the fusiliers and pathfinders can be good order generators to provide orders for the FK and Seraph. Tech Bee is pretty much a button pusher, and the medic can help keep the FK alive. EVO Mulebot and engineer mandatory for TAG.

Seems okay enough. Techbee won't be able to push many buttons though, 2 orders isn't near enough for that. Machinist, Trauma Doc and Pathfinder would be better for backup button pushing.

>Most of his goofs, gaffs, and spoofs get called out in the comments.
which is useless since no one reads youtube comments, including the video creator.

Hey guys, first attempt at a vanilla YJ. Trying to avoid JSA and ISS units.

Group 1

Zuyong - HMG Lt. Automedkit
Tiger Soldier - Assault Hacking Device
Hac Tao - Assault Hacking Device
Guilang - Forward Observer
Yan Huo - HRMC
Zhanshi - Combi
Rui Shi
Husong

Group 2

Zhanshi - Combi
Shaolin - Chain rifle
Shaolin - Chain rifle

You have too many order-hungry units. The Hac Tao, Zuyong, Rui Shi and Yan Huo all compete, as do the Tiger Soldier and Guilang to a lesser extent. 7 and later 8 orders (or even 6 if you hide the Hac Tao) isn't nearly enough for all that. Stick to a few big active turn units, and always aim for 10 orders in your first group.

Even with that composition the Tiger Soldier should be in the second group with the troops currently there being shifted to the first group. AD units don't start on the board, and something is probably going to die on the first turn so you can transfer it into the first group when you deploy it.

How's this for taking the YJ starter to 300?

looks ok. Although it would be a good idea to add monks instead of one of the zanshis in the future.

I need some Morat listbuilding 101. What are the best specialist, best links and most importantly how to build a list around the Sogarat haris.

>best specialist
For button pushing? Zerat plus whatever specialists are in your chosen link. Doc Worm, M Drones, Anyat and Kurgats are good too because of their utility.

>best links
I dunno. Maybe Rodoks or Hungries? Depends on what you want. MAF has a bunch of good links, even Vannies are good if you take Anyat with them.

>and most importantly how to build a list around the Sogarat haris
Get Soggy link. Get cheap core link. Get specialists. Get supportware hacker. Get orders. It's not rocket surgery.

Armand Le Muet.

The Multi-sniper raiden isn't totally bad. Great for a quick surprise shot and still rather durable in turns after it. It's just vastly overshadowed by the X-visored HRL.

Tiger Soldier Multi-Sniper. If you don't think of the AD as an order inefficent intruder without camouflage, but rather a sniper with mimetism, BS 13, and a sort of "strategos level x" where you can decide where you want it on a board (and have Multi-terrain to boot), either placing it first in a decent spot in your deployment zone, or later to inconvenience your opponent.

Tiger Soldiers are nothing like Intruders. Intruders are defined by the camo+MSV2 combination and Tigers have neither. They are a bit like Lasiqs I suppose, but much more expensive and without an X visor. Either way it is a waste of a Tiger Soldier, take spitfire, specialist or maybe shotgun instead.

Did I type intruders? I totally meant to type Lasiq, I'm sorry. Must've had a brain fart.

Which Sun Tze variant is best?

What kind of force should I build to get the most out of him?

The 1.0 HI version is definitely better. He's damned near invincible. Shotgun and multi rifle profiles are both valid, I usually use the shotty because it's cheaper and he normally uses flash pulse instead of guns anyway.

As for the force, YJ doesn't have anything obvious to deploy late like Haqq's Fidays. Rambos or quick killers like bikes are good candidates since that way the opponent can't prepare for them.

How, if in any way, is Triangulated fire affected by failure categories when shooting into close combat and missing?

For example, let's say the bot is shooting at Shinobu Kitsune in Close Combat with a Jaguar on BS 11 (-3 of course so hitting on eights) and rolling a ten. Does it hit the Jaguar as it is still in the FC of 6 as described as shooting into close combat?

Triangulated fire is affected by no mods besides that -3.

So no the sensor bot shooting into CC would not be affected by the the -6 for shooting into CC. Since you are not affected by that mod, you cannot fail to hit due to it and thus cannot hit your own guy.

I've used that ability to punk Achilles more than once.

Aw yiss
I like how the HRL Wildcat even looks like a 90s superheroine. She just needs Deadpool-style eyes.

Brutal.

>that rubber slinky arm
ayyy lmao

Nomads, man. They get up to some real weird shit over there.

Wildcate HRL is the best nomad girl. Popsicle Mod a close second. Winter Vixen dead last.

>Winter Vixen dead last
I know she's got some stiff competition, but come on man.

Bonus points if you hide the feet Liefeld style

Bao troops surely? MSV2 sniper with courage.

baos are realy shity. Sure they can snipe some mooks, but in a fight vs other snipers they are dead.

bao sniper is pretty bad compared to any other factions MSV2 sniper. Mediocre BS, frail with only 1 ARM and no defensive modifiers, the pretty useless 6 BTS ups the cost. I'd rather use an ABH sniper at that point.

The truth is that decent snipers were always a weak point for YJ, the faction seems more concerned with rockets and missles than MSR. I feel the only worthy snipers are Celestial Guards in 5-man link and the ABH. Guilang wouldn't be THAT bad but the sniper loadout gets overshadowed by the superior FO and AHD ones. Le Muet is also good but damn pricey.

I propose a solution: A sniper substitution for a new remote along the line of the Lu Duan/Rui Shi.

Sogarat Haris narrows your options. You want cheap filler, but Dats can't be specialists. So you go Vanguard and take the hacker to Fairy Dust if necessary.

Having paid hacker tax you might as well grab an M-Drone. That's as many as nine units and maybe enough points to buy about one unit, depending on how hard you pimped out the vanguard. If you took all 5 it probably has to be another specialist for ITS and maybe an Ikadron with any spare points. You could make the Vanguard link smaller for more flexibility, but the other units you buy will have to be cheap anyway. If you take the Soggy link every game, look forward to tailored lists which camo spam against you. You'll want to mix in the odd Yaogat to disencourage that.

>A sniper substitution for a new remote along the line of the Lu Duan/Rui Shi.
I fear it could be a little too much. Stick it somewhere safe in your DZ with a helperbot nearby and some hacker support and you got a Marksmanship 2 MULTIsniper with some kind of visor (to continue on the line of the Yaoxie) that keeps coming back from the dead. It's not Nikoul+Symbiomate level of annoyance but it comes close.

Something a little too much to balance out the all to many underwhelming options.

I'm not too serious about it.

Either that or the invincible army gets the first Multi-sniper heavy infantry.

I think by giving something generally avoided for likely overpoweredness, then Yu Jing players wouldn't complain despite having Tiger Soldiers, Bao Troops, linked Celetial Guard or Keisotsu, Spec-Ops, and Raiden for middling to decent sniper options.

Hungries link
Datz and Specialists to season.

Thing is, how are you going to get the orders distributed? Put the specialists with the hungries in antoher group? Then you have a 150 point order starved link. Or, alternatively, you wind up with specialists who can't get anywhere in time or with only one or two who canny opponents will assassinate

A soggie link won NOVA:
