I have several friends who bash on Mtg and other games due "pandering to manchildren, etc" and even with these changes they don't buy shit, I'm friends with 3 LGS's owners who told me their customers didn't increase in the slightless in 15 years and that the type of customer also didn't change, they told me though that everytime wotc makes public some "progressive move" they get a small increase in the sales from new costumers, but this drops again to normal sales because these new costumers don't stay long enough to play the game. Inhuman colorings of blood, such as green or black, increase how much blood is acceptable but still must be within reasonable limits. No gore is allowed. This taken to its most ridiculous extreme in the latest Kong film which was rated PG-13 despite a man being impaled to death through the mouth but as there is no blood or gore shown it's still PG-13.
R- Excessive amounts of blood and/or any real gore gets you an automatic R rating.
NC 17- Given out for extensive or extreme gore. Almost never given out due to the amount of money required to make that level of gore effects combined with the market interest being very small. Only the SAW and Hostel movies were even threatened with it in recent years.

G- Nothing can be implied beyond "X likes Y"
PG- sex can be mentioned but not shown
PG-13-partial nudity and genitals obscured sex allowed. Discussion of sex must still be general without reference to interaction of specific body parts.
R- Full nudity okay as is unobstructed sex. The only thing disallowed is visible penetration.
NC-17- As said before only really visible penetration gets you bumped up here. Rarely given out because at that point why make porn without bothering with the MPAA.

This all comes down to the MPAA ratings members being salaried not hourly. So they just stamp the movie basically on autopilot to go home as quick as possible.
