I agree with what you are saying, though feel that there won't be a middle ground without mods being very active about cutting down lewds when it gets out of hand. Unfortunately smut tends to spread out over time and affect things that initially had nothing to do with smutposting.

One is just getting together and typing out erotic actions to each other, which is basically cyber sex. The other is a game with erotic overtones.

Magical realm is either for the various porn boards, /soc/, or Veeky Forums depending on intent of thread.

I wouldn't say it's that clear cut, especially since a lot of Veeky Forums threads focus on storytelling, or settings in general. Like, how many 40k threads actually relate to the rules of the games?

They are PRIME examples of THE WORST parts of generals, primarily them quickly developing into insular sub-communities that chat about off-topic content with only the occasional lipservice to keep the mods from outright banning them.

Magical Realm and ERP are not topics of any real depth by themselves, and hardly ones that can sustain a general. That's why even when the people who make them now just keep them bumped with nothing but fetish discussion, they still find it difficult to reach the bump limit before 4-5+ days. They are everything bad about generals with none of the good trade-offs, and everyone, even those posters, are better off just chatting in /d/, /aco/, /h/, /b/, /trash/, and the assortment of other non-worksafe boards that cater to them and their obsessions.

If the thread is about getting together to cyber sex, even if it's a fantastical situation set in a fantasy setting, it's still /soc/ since it's still just cyber sex, which is pretty much what /soc/ was made for.

Which is why /wsg/ was eventually moved to /soc/ since it was pretty much just a cyber sex get together thread but with fantasy elements.

/erp/ went to /soc/, /wsg/ went to /d/.
