Ask them about their characters. Many of them will say they're just there for "the scene", or "Oh I played Magic once, but I don't do Dee and Dee".

Like I said my group is composed of people of different political beliefs but it doesn't affect our games. When I played with these people it was like they were in a crusade mode all the time.

What OP was surprised about was that those types were the only people around, which is pretty surprising on a number of levels.

HOWEVER, thinking about things, the roleplay communities in MMOs DO tend to have a lot of social justice hipsters, and they might be branching out in their hobbies to offline activities.

From changes in the settings, from characters, to mechanics, to table talk. It's just not a proper game without a few dirty jokes or horrible things said and my group has a few women in it, and they make the dirtiest jokes out of anyone.

If me feeling superior to both means I won't be an asshole in both my words and my actions, then I don't see the harm in it.

It always seems to be liberals that bring up politics. Jeb Bush and Marco Rubio being the sterling examples of that. Every step of the way the Republican party tried to oppose and sabotage their own nominee without openly supporting a woman they'd been telling their voters was Satan incarnate for years, and they only bent the knee after realizing that he could give them almost everything they wanted. My own experience is that the thing America does with Whites vs Everyone is just not really as much of a thing elsewhere. Racism is localized and targeted. The same people, in the same area, can be thoroughly racist towards one group and get up in fucking arms when a single family opens up a shop, but have no problems towards the area getting a massive influx of differently-colored people.

Actually, the thing is more that "moving forward" or at least "not going backwards" seems to have been recently redefined as "moving left". There's no fucking actual reason why things like "healthcare access" should be termed leftie. They're a basic human thing.

I do kind of find that there is this friction between two kinds of nerds. Both are a little ashamed of their hobbies.

It's useful for some classes. Like with rogue you get an extra sneak attack chance if your first attack misses. For Paladins it's surprisingly useful too after they get their Improved Smite, which gives them +damage per attack, which makes getting more attacks better. I think Rangers get similar "+damage per attack" things too, but I haven't played them so who knows.

Then again you can get bonus action attacks with feats like Polearm Master and Crossbow Expert, so if you're minmaxing you probably won't bother with dual wielding anyway. But dual wielding isn't completely terrible either.

I've had to share oxygen with groups like this and yes, they do try their damnest hard to force you into their politics. They're the Jehova's Witnesses of politics.

And their games always suck, it's like watching people play Rat Queens without even the smallest hint of irony and knowing they'll screech autistically and try to get you banned from the LGS if you dare be different.
