Is there any RPG that accurately represents the horrors of socialism?
I'd especially like to focus on the modern horrors of socialism, like what is happening right now in my country, Venezuela.
I've never seen an RPG that really allows us to fight back against the type of thing we are going through. Even though they would put us to death if we tried to resist in real life, it would be good to fantasy it once it once in a while.
Thank you Veeky Forums
Cooper Russell
Mayhaps, it is your fate to write such an RPG?
Isaac Gutierrez
That's more of a DM narration thing. Depict a storyline about something else, then there's societal collapse and the government makes everything far worse. Its up to the DM/GM/ST to provide atmosphere.
Samuel Flores
FATAL
Robert Phillips
Paranoia is a game about living in a dystopian underground bunker controlled by a Friendly and Helpful computer. Fun is mandatory for all Troubleshooters.
Whether you could reskin it into Venezuela is your own challenge.

I can try but I am not an expert in English
Is there no RPG about fighting back against evil government soldiers that rape your family and steal your money?
I do not know the better terms to search for with google about it. I tried searching for Communism RPG and Socialism RPG but I only got communism and socialism propaganda from Marx.
Jace Morris
Technically speaking, Paranoia fits the bill. The Player Characters are Troubleshooters (their job is to find trouble and shoot it) working for Friend Computer in order to hunt down all the mutant, communist, traitors lurking about in society.
The setting is far enough into the future that highly advanced genetic engineering has turned everyone into mutants, all the means of production are collectively owned by the working population and resources/jobs are distributed via need and skill, and everyone is part of various secret societies all bent on the traitorous goal of destroying or modifying Friend Computer.
Gabriel Jackson
Paranoia has humor details. Our situation is not a laughing stock, believe me.
Adam Rogers
There is a single page RPG system where all the players are stuck on an island and are to be killed in order to be consumed by distant and uncaring overlords. I can't remember the name of it but you might be able to make it fit.
Aaron Young
>>Mayhaps, it is your fate to write such an RPG? >I can try but I am not an expert in English ah si ah si because only English readers can play an RPG. Looks like your clever disguise fell off, Mr. Troll.
Lucas Bennett
No, not specifically. If you're that interested in making it happen just play something like Chronicles of Darkness and flavor all the weird supernatural shit as highly advanced technology that the Statists have stolen from overtaxed and overworked corporations just trying to abide by the Non-Aggression Principle and provide an optimum quality of goods and services to their customers at prices dictated by market demands.
Adrian Collins
>Our situation is not a laughing stock
Suuuuuuuuuure.
Eli Scott
The Straight playstyle of Paranoia XP strips out a lot of the humorous elements.
Dominic Hill
My country and most of my continent does not afford RPGs. I play English games and read English books mostly.
Don't be insulting.
Matthew Bailey
So what you're saying is that there is an untapped market for low-cost, Spanish language RPGs?
Lucas Fisher
I wish more people could afford it. :(

What's that one indie RPG where you play on a "post scarcity" spacestation and the currency is facebook likes?
Play that.

Yes it is.

True, even for us.

What's wrong with Democratic Socialism? Numerous studies over the years show that countries that have democratic socialist governments and programs are more stable, happier, have better health care at lower costs and more. Just because a party calls itself socialist or communist does not make them so. Look at Venezuela - A big issue with them is that the government is corrupt and inept and their parties are agglomerating power for power sake. Then you look at Denmark which is a happy, healthy democratic socialist government that is actually freer than the US in almost every single regard. Sure, they pay more in taxes but the people understand and willingly pay since it covers so many benefits they all draw on such as healthcare, education, a free and open government and retirement funds.
What you should be focusing on is against corrupt and dictatorial governments, not socialism.
Jack Morgan
This is the type of propaganda they used to destroy my country.

If you're OP... don't kid yourself. South America has been immune to stable, non-corrupt Governments for centuries.

>willingly pay taxes This always makes me laugh because not paying taxes means your are thrown in jail and your freedom removed.
There is no choice its compliance or else.

>Baaawww pooling money with my fellow citizens gets me better services than I could get by myself >taxes is theft guys!
That would be true if you could opt out with the only penalty being a loss of services.
Sebastian Anderson
Paranoia is the way to go OP. Just slice out all the humor and lay bare the horrors.
David Foster
>Is there any RPG that accurately represents the horrors of socialism?
So OP, have you heard about a game called 'Fatal'?
Angel Ortiz
Are you implying that The Computer is a communist citizen? That's pretty damn treasonous.
Evan Kelly
Spanish would be the most logical market to expand into after english, I'm pretty sure it's got the highest number of speakers.

Venezuela isn't suffering through socialism, it is suffering through dictatorship. Don't confuse the two, a lot of Burgerstanians can't figure out the difference.
Carter Harris

Denmark is not a socialist country in any way whatsoever, it's social democrat, they're totally different. Why do so many people not understand this? You're american aren't you? It's a hell of a thing when a country can produce self-proclaimed socialists who don't have the slightest clue what in the hell is and isn't socialism.
Ethan Nguyen
Parano- Damn it
Aiden Flores
>country that isn't actually socialist in any way and has it's defence budget covered entirely by a foreign nation is a good example of practical real world socialism Stop getting your definitions for political terms from right-wing idiots who probably think that the Marx brothers wrote the Communist Manifesto.

Veeky Forums Also worships Ayn Rand and Atlas shrugged despite the dumb shitstain living off social services and being laughed out of every economic think tank of her time.

We tried to vote against it. The government reported the vote wrong and then made the media lie.
Leo Parker
That is called a "dictatorship" or "failed state", not socialism.
Parker Perez
Wow, one of them is really doing the "not real socialism" thing

>despite the dumb shitstain living off social services Well isn't her entire philosophy about how being selfish is a virtue? Get what you can, fuck everyone else, where is there anything about refusing free money from idiots? I don't think you really understood her philosophy by the sounds of it, it's pretty terrible.
>countries that don't call themselves socialist but are doing well are socialist >countries that do call themselves socialist but are doing poorly aren't God I wish I had a world view like that where I'm always right.

This. It's corruption you hate, not socialism. I said democratic socialist. Reread my comment - >Then you look at Denmark which is a happy, healthy democratic socialist government
John Barnes
>that is completely propped up by NATO and otherwise wouldn't be able to maintain trade routes or defend itself in any way
Ryan Bell
Social democrat, not democratic socialist. They're not socialists, the two terms do mean different things. READ A FUCKING BOOK.

Keep raging against the death of the American Empire. You'll either die in a fractured country, or live long enough to see European Social Democracy take over.
Either way, it must suck to have failed as an Empire so quickly.
Tyler Cox
Why not accept that corruption is part of Humanism? Lets you hate socialist and fascists.
Lincoln Ortiz
It's a super-corrupt kleptocracy and dictatorship.
Socialism is a perfectly reasonable way to allocate emergency resources to the extremely poor.
That's failed in this case because there's a bunch of communist controls on the market there and it's all being used to rob everyone and at every level there's corruption that reduces efficiency of an already inefficient system.
Bentley Wood
>the death of the American Empire What the fuck are you talking about?
>to see European Social Democracy take over. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA 10/10 good troll user I had you wrong, keep up the good work.
Daniel James
>Our situation is not a laughing stock You have got to be trolling. What kind of respone did you honestly expect?
Lucas Jones
Do you honestly think Denmark needs to protect itself from anyone? Germany is a friend, the other Scandies love the Danes in a retarded little brother kind of way.
Oh, and the world isn't in the medieval times when war was declared every monday. Although even in those times Danes did just fine.
What has America done for the world recently? Germany and China are on the rise, while the American government can't even maintain the legitimacy and security of their own elections.
Caleb Baker
There you go.
Everything is free, the only resource is social capital, play it as a socialist dystopia and do whatever it takes to earn them facebook likes.

It's a hard situation. The oil pretty much has to be nationalized or the whole country is going to be a poor as fuck petrostate, but with crashing oil prices the socialist programs that supported much of the country are falling apart. They were stupid and inefficient systems to begin with and with the cash crunch they can't keep working at all.
Frankly they should have just paid everyone dividends from the oil profits and let them buy shit. The cash crunch would still hurt a lot but they wouldn't have the shitty problems of the controlled basic markets.
Nathan Anderson
>The people in Europe are both weak in spirit and in body Good bait. Guaranteed replies.
Kayden Sanchez
>The people in Europe are both weak in spirit and in body.
And America is a bastion of health and fitness.
Christian Nelson
The US has socialist health care for people under 18 and over 65. It's a stupid system. But it also works perfectly well and health care eaislly matches demand.
Also, like 80% of our health care is socialist anyway because it's fucking old people.
Robert Barnes

Nice try, but only Americans think Socialized medicine works like that.
If it is serious, you get the procedure. For free.
Not to mention in America the situation would go: >Have problem >Don't have good health insurance, don't go to doctor. Die >Have health insurance. Go to doctor. Can't afford procedure. Die. >Sells house to pay for procedure. Live for a year, then die destitute in an alley.
America is the only first world country in the world where minor medical issues are death sentences.
Jonathan Bennett
>poor guy is asking if there are any rpgs where he and his buddies can pretend to be the rebel alliance against a government like the socialist nightmare that has destroyed his country

I think he was just talking about the fact that's how taxes work. You pay them or they throw you in prison.
Jace Clark
A weak spirit and weak willpower. You Europeans pretend to be the bastion of tolerance, stabbing yourselves as proof of your own greatness. In the end, that's weakness that will be abused by your enemies. I hope you become more tolerant and embrace the religion of peace.
Cameron Adams
To be fair we already gave him some solid recommendations. We're probably gonna get merged with /jp/ or something in a sec anyway might as well act like dipshits.
