for a legitimate answer many classical bards had only one name, if they were part of a troupe or sponsored by a family they were

(name) of (sponsoring family)
or
(name) of (bard college or troupe)

though to be honest most people only had one name, only nobles had familial names officially. Most modern last names are either the name of an ancestor of note (owens being son of owen, jameson for son of james, etc) or your family trade (smith, banks, carpenter, loggerhead, etc)

Sir Reginald Pippingworth Cockmeister of the Corningshire Cockmeisters

>your family trade (smith, banks, carpenter, loggerhead, etc)

What trade does "Shakespeare" imply?

the common theory is that it was a name for a Security guard (spear shaker if you will) or a Spearman
similar names from the time are shakelance, and shakelock (jailor)
