uh, thanks?
no, really, this is a good chart.
So, basically, this chart is how people perceive the likelihood of things happening based on the way people describe how likely it is?
So, 'we doubt' would equate to a probability range of around 15-33%?
Not trying to be captain obvious, just trying to figure out what the chart does
So basically when a player asks if they can do something/will something happen, you can fine tune their perception of the outcome based on word choice. Nice.
...
Very nice. Would you happen to have the source? I'd like to see their methodology.
lel
Yes. That's more or less it.
People were asked to assign numerical probability to these phrases.
plz dont mislead
>Scores of Kobolds
How does this make you feel?
>Few: 1-4
>Several: 5-9
>Pack: 10-19
>Lots: 20-49
>Horde: 50-99
>Throng: 100-249
>Swarm: 250-499
>Zounds: 500-999
>Legion: 1000 +
Nostalgic
It'd probably make the plot ugly, but I wish they had some more lines so that the log scale is more readable at a glance
>You see scores of Kobolds
How many exactly?
>About 10 000 kobolds.
>You see scores of Kobolds
Be more specific?
>The top of the scoreboard says TrapmastaXxX leads with 40,564, easily leading the rest of the pack with NotAScaleyGoblin345 following in second place with a mere 32,121
>almost certainly - 60%
>little chance - 100%
>better than even - 5%
These people should have their tongues and fingers removed so they can't shit surveys up any more.
survey trolling at its best
>How does this make you feel?
>Several: 5-9
Like somebody doesn't know what "several" means. Several is more in the 3-6 range than the 5-9 range. Maybe the fact that you have a category for "a few" pushes the low end of several higher, but there's no way the high end reaches 9. Honestly, "a few" and "several" can apply to the same number of things, just with "a few" presenting that amount as if it's not many, and "several" presenting it as if it's more than one or two. Think "proximity" vs. "distance", where both indicate the amount of space between two things, but one emphasizes nearness and the other farness. Of course, emphasizing different directions, "a few" can drift a bit downwards while "several" drifts a bit upwards, so if you had to pick which word indicated more, it'd definitely be "several", but really they're not that different. Also, while 1 thing certainly doesn't qualify as "a few", 1-4 as a category kind of does, while it would seem wrong for "several" to ever include the possibility of just 1. Again, I think the emphases fuzzy boundaries in different directions.
Several means "about seven"
About means "plus or minus two"
>Several means "about seven"
No, it doesn't.
>About means "plus or minus two"
This really depends. If somebody asks you how many people there were at the concert and you say "about a thousand", chances are you don't mean 998-1002.
Depends on if we're talking about peasants or power liches.
>Depends on if we're talking about peasants or power liches.
>power liches
As opposed to the old, manual kind?
Perfect for that "The risk I took was calculated, but man am I bad at math" bird picture that's so frequently used
Also I really like the watercolor style for this. Never thought I'd actually find a box and whisker plot aesthetically pleasing
>As opposed to the old, manual kind?
In these parts, we call them 'standard liches'.
>box and whisker
Where are the whiskers, user?
Where are the phrases like: 'are you sure?' and 'does your character really do that?'
>'are you sure?
Does anyone throw that out at random actions to make the players sweat? Mixed with real 'are you sure' type things to keep the fear alive.I also some times roll the PC perception in secret and they know this. So as a added pucker factor I roll 2 d20 behind the DM screen before saying that.
>that one guy on the far right at "highly unlikely," "almost no chance," "probably not," and "little chance."
My hero.
No
>That guy all the way to the left on "Highly Likely", "We Believe" and "Better than Even"
I thin he's seen some shit.
this is the correct answer
Alright, which chucklefuck put 10k down for "hundreds?"
I can understand people putting down some numbers in the thousands, but that asshat is doing it on purpose
>Several
for what it's worth in old English it means different,
so "more than 2?"
We need to find them and make them fight.
