Where can I get good edges?

...

When do you have to convince someone to join you, do you actually tone down your charisma perks or you just bomb them with social combat and every emphatic manipulation skill that you have?

If you can't convince them to come with you without help from your perks, how do you expect to be able to trust them when the chips are down? No, you've got to do the thing rightly.

So. One last update. Mostly because I forgot the most obvious item that should be in in each Warhammer Fantasy jump and will continue to be in each of mine.

Just added the Ogre Kingdoms Miniatures item.

I personally have every companion sign a custom made magical contract binding them to not negatively interfere in the chain, either actively, passively or by omission.

That's sooo cool

Jumpers!
How many languages do you know?
Which ones stand out?
Ever invent any?

>How many languages do you know?
I have perks that let me understand every language that I came across. Also, my mind at this point is advanced and alien enough that limited human languages do not new ideas.

>Which ones stand out?
None?

>Ever invent any?
I have a few runic systems.

(Psst. Hey! An Ogre Does Not Stop!)

>How many languages do you know?
I have the DC Martian thing of being able to learn a person's native language by kissing them on the mouth. So seeing as I'm a slut, I know a LOT of languages at this point.
>Which ones stand out?
Elvish from LOTR is great when you wanna look all snobbish and regal.
>Ever invent any?
I like just using voices as musical instruments, without language. And trying to convey feelings that way. I got a bunch of perks that help with that.

>>How many languages do you know?

many personally, I also have Universal translators

>>Which ones stand out?

The correspondence and Divine words

>Ever invent any?

yes,I have one in development. it's called Unification it's kind of a constructed language designed to bridge the gaps between the coding new language used internally in bioroids from mega man X, the correspondence,Nihongo and English,it's a little side project I Dick around with in my head when I get bored,I don't expect it to actually ever get finished or actually do anything, but I have noticed that when I try thinking and it it really helps me to get my head on straight.

Oh my god I can't believe I forgot again.

Added that thing to that perk.

>I have the DC Martian thing of being able to learn a person's native language by kissing them on the mouth.
That isn't a martian thing, it is a Tamaranian thing.

Right! I was confused but you're totally right. Got it from the Teen Titans jump I believe. I'm also a DC Martian but that happened later in my chain, in YJ's jump.

This scene's missing. Think of it as-backstage, where three people (and nobody) wander an endless library.

The Golden Witch is reading a story she found in a glass bottle:

"Why am I still writing this? It's just another ____, I should just post and be done with it already. My head hurts. I'm hungry, and I've been sitting here too long. There's too much to keep track of, and I keep forgetting things"

The last page was torn out.

"But what about us? Where does this leave us?" she asked. She has been arguing with nobody for long, long after they understood each other. "Don't do this. I just want it all to end. If you're as real as I am, then this nightmare is as good as over if you only...stay"

Nobody disagreed.

"He's right, Beato" said the Witch of Origin. "Maria doesn't want to hurt anyone, even if mama deserves it, but the second they got bored toying with us they trapped us in this mess. Maria won't forgive that"

Nobody adjusted the marvel of clockwork and law strapped to her back.

"One of them already has" said the Futurist Witch, hefting her kaleidostick "because she's the reason why I grew up hating someone I never had to. They always win, because their games are rigged"

The Golden Witch knew they were right. What they had to do was absolutely impossible. So they packed their things, and journeyed Beyond the Gates of Saigoth where impossibility grew like grass.

That's all he wrote, folks. There isn't any more.

Metal Gear Revengeance is famous for 'em

Reminder that in the novelisation, Doc Ock's arms act like kids who just want to make their daddy proud

Now it is time for the play to begin. Let the curtain rise upon a lushly decorated mansion, where the great detective flatters and Battler are arguing. Most of the others are less than no help. Such is the way of things.

Enter Lord JUMPER-Battler. His scorched robes, smouldering with lilac embers. The underside of his gold-trimmed coat radiates a shade of purple that scars emory. He's one thousand years (and one hour) late. Behind him, his entourage takes formation.

She laughs. "So, the plot thickens. Let me guess-you're here to ransom that child?"

You're dressed like one of those pop idols who please old men between shows, said the Sorcerer. The kind who got rejected from actual porno sets for being too bitchy to work with. Just saying

She looks like she just swallowed a fishbone. "How dare you-"

Or did your grandma sew that to hide your flat chest? Do you have daddy issues? Is that know-it-all 'tude what happens when an entitled womanchild gets dumped and knows she deserved it?

"...this is getting oddly personal I MEAN HOW DARE YOU-"

Do you have any actual friends? Any relationships at all that aren't built on your ego or your antagonism?

"...I have a mistress..."

And she's going to miss you. Very. Much. Because that so-called case of yours has wider holes than your absentee mother on a Friday evening. (red truth)

"Where did you-no wait-that's not even-HANG ON-"

But wait-there's more! What are the odds of someone bringing their own lifejacket right before their own ship sinks? And HOW would such a person keep their supply of duct tape dry while floating to land? It's almost like your life up to now is one big contrivance. (red truth)

Erika implodes in a puff of logic.

Cue curtains, end scene.

(Cont'd)

There's been a change in the program. Any veteran theatergoer can feel it, like the wind in the willows. But you paid for a murder mystery, and you'll see it through to the end even if none of the characters seem interested in opening the box anymore.

You think for a moment, and write "But the future refused to change". After a while, you amend it with "No matter how hard he tried to cheat his way out of it.

The curtain still doesn't rise. Sighing, you add "Yes, including 'that'".

Now, the next scene finally begins. To his credit, the Sorcerer rallies magnificently even when victory has clearly been snatched from him and he feels the hand of a higher power upon his destiny. The others don't even notice. The mystery seems to have become a battle royale, and nobody is sure why.

Amidst the flying fists, the thrown weapons, the family head slammed against the table as several generations of repression achieve catharsis, a few characters defy the odds. Beato-san forgives a woman by saving her from death by goat. Ange-sama disproves her stepmother's guilt, saving her from the literal cut and thrust of debate. Maria-chan refuses to fight at all. Ah, there it is-the conjuration of 1 from 0.

Where's the Sorcerer? There he is! How could you have taken your eyes off him? He unmasks Battler's imposter: It's Old Man WIthers! You laugh at the glamour, as Battler stammers that makes no sense. The Sorcerer assures there's a perfectly sane, logical explaination for everything-and, not unkindly, reminds Battler of what he forgot.

Battler can't bear the shock. He tries to deny it, and chokes on his tongue. Not unkindly, the Sorcerer puts him to sleep and asks the survivors to take him somewhere safe.

You look down, and your cat seems to be missing as well. She appears on the stage. With her blonde little friend in tow.

(Cont'd)

You suppose there could be more character development, if the characters had reason to develop. They obviously don't, because development is change-and in a sense, change is destruction. You'd know that better than anyone.

So your c-ahem, the Witches of Miracles and Certainty are given the ultimate change, under your aegis: Authority over the Game Board. The Sorcerer's Falcastra clashes with Bern's purple scythe, and you suppose it is literal pottery that one who cannot accept love and one who cannot accept miracles would repulse each other so completely.

You frown. You didn't think that. No matter.

Bern is uncharacteristically serious. To knock over a game piece is to visit great insult on the player. She launches a universe, and he replies with a multiverse-only becoming partly real enough to hurt at the moment of impact. The sorcerer deatomises her, while she opens up entropic singularities in his vital organs. Behind him, Ange and Beato are pinned to a wall, having sacrificed an opening to save the other guests. Only Maria's magics keep Lambdadelta from wiping them out.

The fight spills into the Sea of Nothingness. And the Sorcerer cries out: YOU'RE JUST LIKE YOUR INTERNAL ORGANS. FULL OF SHIT, AND WIDE OPEN

He has them forced into some kind of recursion trap. Not a logic error, something you've never quite seen before-an ouroboros? Whatever it is, he leans a power that challenges inevitability upon it while the other witches, angry at their slights, lend their power to the torture. To add insult to injury, music persists.

There were taunts and catcalls in the beginning. They've abated with the realisation none of the witches are treating this like a game anymore, empowered to fight beyond expectations. Bernkastel starts to panic as she realises what the experience reminds her off, and devolves into screaming threats. Lambdelta has the presence of mind to attempt a call to the Senate.

(Cont'd)

Light flares, like the toxin of disbelief but-sharper. Shading your eyes, you catch a darker-than-black mathesigilic proof that denotes Bern and Lambda's mortal frailty. And then another surge of radiance; you turn your face in earnest, lest your sins crawl upon your back.

Another Voyager silently loiters for a spell en route to somewhere more interesting. She seems transfixed by horror.

You almost pity Bern and Lambda. Three times all the suffering the world has seen at their hands, reflected back upon them.

And the Sorcerer just. Stares. Even as the others kick them while downed just to make sure, he looks around him, as if trying to commit the scene to memory. For a moment, he looks you right in the eye and reading his lips he says: You claim to be a spectator, yet you're interfering. You realise he's forming an understanding of you.

Nobody hates a hypocrite more than another hypocrite.

Lambdadelta returns to lucidity, and pleads. What do they want, she silently asks. I can make it happen. Anything, asked the Sorcerer. Anything at all, she replies.

I'll take your souls then, said the Sorcerer. Then something happens you don't see coming: Bern and Lambda twist, burning with B_____-l____; for a second Bern seems to resemble the scythe she wields.

This will not stand. Amusing feuds are one thing, but to lay a hand on your miko is a direct challenge.

>You write: "And then, they were inside the City of Books, face to face with the Creator"
>You also write: "Featherine always finishes writing her decisions just in time"

(Cont'd)

You are on the stage. You express grave disappointment with the proceedings, and all but one of them cowers. The Sorcerer has come to the conclusion that either you are the ultimate cause of every crime, or the embodiment of the true sin surrounding the murders.

This is the most pathetic part, you think. He speaks of culpability, but all you wanted was to know what was inside of the box. Why?

The Sorcerer turns a furious gaze on you. You will have made it so he cannot best you. So he shouts: You know what? No, I don't owe YOU of all people a fucking explanation. I have NEVER owed your kind an explanation.

You disagree. With extreme prejudice.

>You wrote "user told me his motivations"
>Also, you decided YOUR music should be played: youtube.com/watch?v=sjIAEW7lBgM

I know your type. You'd cause a thousand years of atrocities to stave off one second of boredom, so when you strike me down-he catches himself, and stops with extreme effort. His companions are awestruck. You are delighed, it has been a long time since someone has been able to contest your absolute decrees. It's the first real mystery of this whole misadventure.

And it makes reducing the Sorcerer to 0 infinitely more amusing.

You tell the Sorcerer: I'm sure you didn't see this coming, did you? But your fate was sealed the moment you challenged me.

This was never going to end any other way.

As the cafe started to fill up with people, user sighed. It was useless. It was all useless.

He couldn't think of a way to defeat Featherine, and he'd take flack over the question of whether she was supposed to really be the Benefactor or not-he'd always meant to leave it ambiguous. At the same time, in-character the conflict was unavoidable.

It was inevitable. But, he supposed, Jumpchain was taking too much of his time these days. Having to explain how his Jumper did things was becoming unbearably tedious. Better to fade away than burn out.

He deleted the draft, turned off his laptop and went for lunch.

Cont'd ;)

Sorry, just one more post and it's done.

Her eyes widened. This wasn't her story.

Burning with countless truths, the scythe shattered out of The Majestic Witch of Theatergoing, Drama and Spectating's memory storage.

Someone was screaming. Featherine dimly realised it was her. The other witches dissolved, as furniture.

Heatless lilac flames engulfed the library. Erupting from every page, toppling shelves-the Gate of Saigoth opened anew; releasing my jotun in as I hammered Featherine with a corona of mortality-and a scalpel of killing intent.

There is no elegance or taste in this desperate struggle. Only the denial of destiny by my own hand-the true witches burning with their own golden truths as the Creator thrashes, dethroned and debased. In her maddened flailing, even a novice Creator's skill can match her while one who channels the future's power can bind her under the game's rules. It is, however, Beatrice who confronts her with the hearts and minds of every character ever misrepresented by a tale. With that, I can begin forming an understanding that includes Featherine's final cessation.

Dying from astonishment as much as anything, the Creator finally solves one mystery she had missed all along. As the scythe swings for her mind again, she offers applause, a spectator to the end.

The game is won. We collapse under tension we didn't know we'd forced ourselves not to feel. Beatrice addresses me by a name that isn't mine, and yet is. There is a ring on my hand.

After a moment of silence, as one witch (or sorcerer) we turn and bow at the empty stage. It seems appropriate. Then exist stage left, and the Golden Land follows in our wake.

Let the curtain now fall, and another show start.

And for those who stayed behind, a message in a bottle seems to have been left on the stage: pastebin.com/urEVp05A

What?

I take your point. Believe me, I was torn for a LONG while reviewing everything I could do, and everything Featherine could do.

I've done my best to try to explain where I'm coming from on this, but I completely understand if you ultimately disagree. If anything's unclear, please feel free to ask.

Still-apologies about the length, thought I could fit it in 5 posts until I actually got round to writing.

Uh...I'm right here? Like I said-I know there'll be questions about this one, so I'm just chilling here for a while.

I always imagined it as the RotSE's take on Ebby's surrender oaths? Something like, "marriage means wife shares husband's dowry, for Yozis charms are like a dowry, charms are also literally a Yozi, therefore if the top governing entity of Creation marries this Yozi in particular he counts as being in Creation"

Having finished reading the explanation, good show.

Perhaps leaning a little hard on Exalted metaphysics - but there aren't too many settings which involve the kinds of conceptual power needed.

Overall, it reads well, and its plausibility hits the "hm, maybe..." threshold.

Good job - it's a lot more interesting than some of the build posts we get.

And don't worry about wasting time - we have nothing but time to waste, and thought exercises are usually nonsense scenarios. You can consider it a test of your ability to correlate multiple information sources and extract a narrative.

Except you basically just said you were done.

Thank you!

I do like to approach combos as tests of correlation but as I've not-so-subtely commented on through the build, I am aware that at 800+ jumps it's starting to become tedious for myself and others to parse, interpret, reference and cross-analyse all the relevant information throughout my chain. I definitely see where the accusations are coming from, when having to translate my own reasoning from intuition into words somehow ended in hours of scrolling through 4plebs and wikis.

So. I can see why it's daunting, but I can also see it's kinda inevitable and/or necessary for the scale of conflicts my Jumper would logically become involved in.

Saw the P5 jump came out a couple threads ago. Gonna try and get out of the quasi-delirious state I think of as combo-fever before I build for it. Be nice to only have to focus on writing stories again.

Oh and as a heads-up, the space-y/monochromatic/sunlit Garlocks stay, but the flesh-and-blood adult!Simons are going the way of the Anti-Spirals now that

Er, I meant "it's done" in the sense of "the build is fully written out".

Why would I announce my departure?

*now that because of how it all ended, my thoughtform probably looks more like Battler now

Dammit captcha, it's been a long day.

Because your previously-established sense for the dramatic and this chain dying line up, coupled with the decidedly unsubtle

>It was inevitable. But, he supposed, Jumpchain was taking too much of his time these days. Having to explain how his Jumper did things was becoming unbearably tedious. Better to fade away than burn out.

>He deleted the draft, turned off his laptop and went for lunch.

Oh, yeah. I see what you mean now.

Nah, that was just me being too cheaky for my own good. After all the trouble I went to understanding how Umineko's meta worked I got a bit enthusiastic trying to recontextualise it with jumpchain.

The next literally explains that this was a buff he himself created to fool Featherine to think that she was in control of the chain and allow him to strike her.

Using the Library of Eternity to clone the City of Books is a really hard fanwank. Specially when most books are unique and powerful items by themselves.

The impression I was under was because of the immensity of the Sea of Fragments, individuals books are actually fairly ubiquotous. Did I miss something, or are the City's books extra-special in the wider sea?

Also since it might have been unclear-I definitely don't mean to say entire universes or such get encompassed by the Library, just that it generates -physical, wholly literary books that describe (roughly) the actual contents. Like how the Land of the Golden Witch manuscript would describe Beatrice's territory, without actually embodying her territory.

At least, I think? If I'm wrong and the City's collection is that of "higher" realms like Heaven, the Senate and such then I'd agree it would only merely extend into tale-Fragments outside of it.

Whats with the new tron jump in uploads? Did it ever get posted here?

It's supposed to be Featherine's special collection of 'catboxes'. A single fragment (universe) would be a page or less of a book (multiverse).

It's unclear if the Senate is above or in the same plane of existence of the City, but we know that the City is Featherine's personal realm and has a barrier that prevents anything that she (or other members of the senate) do not authorize to enter.

So you would need the Library skip's Feahterine's protection to copy a literal endless multiverse.

Sorry for the late reply...

There's a looot of demons with efficacious dances, and you'd need to learn them personally, since demons can't usually teach others those. You'd also need to be an Fiend/Eclipse/Moonshadow to learn them though, since they're demon-specific powers which an Exalt (or anything else) couldn't learn them normally.

So, no, nothing like Suntarankal. Go for the Fiend caste and meet a ton of demons, if you want to learn their dances without this.

Most notably would be Stanewald, who could teach you 13 magic dances (mostly doing stuff with earth, like opening chasms and causing earthquakes).

The dancing perk also opens the way to developing an efficacious dance(s) of your own, which you wouldn't be able to get at all. In addition to the ridiculously superhuman skill it gives you.

Also, just in case... there's a fuckton of demonic academies for martial arts, Suntarankal is not unique by a long shot. He's just a 3rd Circle, so more notably than any of the thousands of other schools.

No, that's Mara. She doesn't dance, she teaches the Black Style of Martial Arts.

You're not tied to specific locations with Symbolic Links. If you take a Symbolic Link to a land, you pick one of the five Basic Land types. So, yes, it has to be something like "Forest" or "Plain".

It's not to tie you to one spot, but to tie you to a color of mana.

You could then ALSO get a Symbolic Link to something like 'Cities', that would only work with the concept-as-your-Link part, not the part where you're better at using that kind of mana.

I'm not sure if "This city in particular" would work. I assume not, since I think it's supposed to just be concepts, not specific things.

Needs a Link to a land/color. Mountain for Red mana seems fitting with the rest?

Also, I'm not sure if there's any 'witchcraft' in Kamigawa, since it's based on Japanese stuff, so that seems weird too.

Otherwise looks fun to me.

God dammit, I can't watch this without miring his muscles.

Maybe.

Enchanting.

Even as Umineko doesn't have nearly good enough of an info source on the internet, your solution dives deep enough to be viable, despite certain inevitable misconceptions.

Like who exacly Ange is to the story, especially with the TRICK or MAGIC split.

A good tale is always welcome. As such, my thanks to you.

I heard you might be updating Infernals at some point, any chance you'd be willing to share some of your plans?

Is Jumper SOL from Slice of Life typically interpreted to refer only to settings your jumper has already been to?

Either way, what setting would/did you use?
I'm planning on going STALKER Survival Summer Camp.

Why do you always speak like such a posh wanker?

Must be the way I learned the language, I suppose.

Fortunately, I don't often get grief over that, so that's nice.

What's even more admirable is that he also came up with the idea and wrote the movie.

The Sidereal Perk that allows you to know all the martial arts would let me master this style without being subjected to the forced love for teacher! Then I just have to teach it. . .

>Wedding Band of the Scarlet Bride
>ALL Ebon Dragon Charms
I had personally assumed that the Wedding Band fell under the "This Charm may not be learned through the Eclipse anima power or equivalent effects, save for Primordial Principle Emulation" of Cosmic Principle?

Sure. Let's see... There's finishing the Lexicon, and adding Scenarios. I'm thinking of adding Cytherea perks and manse. As well as a couple of additional items, to be able to fold the existing 200cps under the background discounts. Having the higher Circles of Sorcery be purchasable for people who don't want to go through the effort. Some clarifications of awkward wording, expanding the Prayer Strips item to make it a bit better, possibly looking at companion pricing again, possibly letting bondmates share companion slots... I think that's most of it.

There is no perk that lets you know all martial arts, as far as I can see?

There is one that let's you teach any style (Which is less bullshit than it seems, since they still couldn't actually use styles above what they could normally access. An Exalt wouldn't have it any easier than the mortal example.)... but that still wouldn't get around the fact that you would be forced to love your teacher or that your students would be forced to love you. It's ingrained into the entire Style.

I mean to be fair how do you even define an "equivalent effect" to an anima power, especially when some bullshit Charm Solars really shouldn't have is singled out as something that isn't one?

It's an N/A artifact with N/A sapience forged by the most intact of the Yozis (or so he says) out of one of his own souls. If that's not at least an equivalent effect, I don't know what is.

>Martial Arts Compendium Memorization
It gives you knowledge of all of the martial arts to a degree sufficient to recreate them from scratch without a Sifu. Jumper won't have a teacher, though their students will still have the love intimacy.

/jc/, I'm wondering, at what point do you have enough intelligence and/or technology perks that you are better off just reading a bunch of research papers and textbooks in jump than buying more technology perks with CP?

That is to say, how long before learning new sciencey stuff becomes trivialized enough for you to not need to buy it to learn it.

Ah, yes. Except that wouldn't help you with Black Claw, since...

>It is impossible to know the secrets of this style without being exposed to the innermost heart of one’s instructor, and impossible to understand that knowledge without accepting what is within that heart.

Or maybe it just ties you to yourself or Mara.

An "equivalent effect" to that is just anything that lets you learn charms you couldn't naturally learn from another type of being. Primordial Principle Emulation WOULD count as equivalent, it's just specifically allowed as an exception.

And yes, pretty sure the Wedding Band is equivalent, that's what I'm saying.

The moment you get Reverse Engineering and X-Ray vision.

Tech perks are backed by fiat and work in subsequent jumps. Reading a bunch of textbooks does not have that advantage, and mostly leads to unusable knowledge.

Thing about many science perks is that sometimes, it becomes a grey area on whether or not the scientific principles would actually work post jump. Like Rick and Morty. Or Girl Genius. Or anything that relies on some sort of hyper/warp/nullspace. Grey area, that.

Impossible, unless you have a reverse engineering perk to provide the necessary fiat for keeping the science working in universes with potentially different physics.

>Just added the Ogre Kingdoms Miniatures item.
...Could we get some more 50cp options then? Because that's fun, but now I've got 50 leftover cp.

Can always just make a friend for 50cp using the import/create option and not take them as a companion at the end of the jump.

>innermost heart of one’s instructor

Which presupposes that you can't learn it without an instructor which of course you can't using stuff from in-setting.

The perk from the Sidereals jump however is not really a power you can get in-setting exactly and assuming it works as written you should be able to use it to learn it without having an instructor at all.

I guess... Seems kinda wasteful though.

What should I do to enhance Kamigawan Moths? I Imported the Pre-Emptive Retaliation from Light of Terra as my Starship in Undocumented Features, and after giving it a Shuttle Bay, I decided I wanted to give it a Swarm of Moth's instead of Fighters.

Some would say spending 50cp on a bunch of models is wasteful too. All depends on your viewpoint.

In any case, if that's your problem, I'm afraid it's unlikely to be fixed by adding another super cheap option, since it wouldn't have any real worth or effect aside from flavour or fun.

Be nice if there was a personalized banner or something for 50 CP. It would make people with an even number of companions who like figurines feel less like assholes.

Like I said, you can create some random guy for it. Have it be an older Ogre with a bit of experience to show you the ins and outs of something your Origin doesn't cover. Maybe a Hunter decides to give you a rundown and a few practice hunts to see if you're any good. Maybe you're best mates with one of the tribes Bruisers, someone who can back you up in a tussle.

Sides, Banners don't reaaally fit Ogres anyway. They have them but it's not really some big thing.

It's not actually a power that you can't get in-setting, it's just knowledge about different styles that exist.

Reinventing styles is actually nothing special and something people can do in-setting anyway, as seen with Sapphire Veil of Passion Style. Yet the Black Claw Style still has unique restrictions. But I suppose you could make a different Style with the same love-your-teacher effect yourself?

But eh, go for it if you think the perk would allow it, I suppose. Not my jump anyway.

>Banners don't reaaally fit Ogres anyway.

Well no more than any other races I suppose but banners are a big thing in Warhammer. Plus the Ogre ones are metal as fuck.

Isn't the unique restriction based on the idea that you have to learn it off someone who already knows it though?

Eh. Maybe in a bit. Updated it a lot and I'm reluctant to do it again when there is already an option to solve the problem.

I'm not seeing a contradiction here? It's impossible to know the style's secrets without exposure to the innermost heart of an instructor, and impossible to understand it without accepting what is within and loving them.

So I think reinventing the style isn't going to work, because you don't know it's secrets, and if you did, you wouldn't be able to understand them.

How long until Tomb Kings?

3 days? Onto the description writing stage so everything is decided but it's a little bigger then Ogre Kingdoms.
