I'd probably just make an average sized army, with all the units I could ever possibly want to field on the side to swap in and out, and then have each model custom built out of various pieces to prevent identical armor, and then pay for it all to be painted to at least 'Eavy Metal high display standard, if not Golden Daemon standard.

I'm actually working on one of those, centrepiece will be a flying techno-whale airship armed to the teeth using the Stormbird rules. Planned out a whole bunch of conversions and bought the whale model (pic related, obviously will be repainted after conversion) already, going to be maximum sweet.

As for dream conversion, the Dark Explorator Fleet air force, with three to five huge airship cathedral-like mecha carriers a la the Guns of Icarus Mobula as described in HH Conquest ("huge, manta-like Cyclotrathine Aerodynes"), of course using the Manta rules, twelve Filiketos gunships (the whale-stormbirds) and enough units to fill them to the brim, since Mantas can carry four vehicles each. Lots of Thallax, Myrmidons, Macrocarids, artillery, some battle-automata honour guard, Enginseers and Servitors, about thirty Magi of various types, Secutarii and their Arvus Lighter drop craft, a full Legio Kydianos Titan Maniple and Malinax Knight FoC, all based in a massive model of the fleet flagship, the Ark Mechanicus Outside Context Problem.
The top of that would probably come off to reveal a nice big Apoc board, too, with space for terrain storage in the hangar bays that aren't housing the fleet itself.

The people who made it have made other, similar coatings that are so close to vanta black in terms of light absorbtion that the human eye can't tell the difference. These similar coatings can be applied like normal paint and may be available in stores in a matter of years.
