Fuck

Well, you can
A: leave it to rot on your hard drive,
B: brave the embarrassment and see if you can't salvage it refine any old ideas, or
C: burn it all, burn it away, cleanse the world of such things.

I have a habit of destroying old scratches after a few years, so I can't blame you.

>>posting insta-boner while I'm at work

You too? Xenobiology was so great, too bad there's never going to be a sequel.

We've all been there, my man.

I remember writing up an RPG way back when. Took my cues from reading a book about D&D because my babby mind and terrible dyslexia couldn't get a grip of 3.5. Based it off WoW as well, no play testing, though I think I used d6s instead.

Though I have fond memories of having a "save-or-die" well in the only dungeon I ran, which turned you welsh when you fell in it. -d6 charisma if you survived.

>turned you welsh when you fell in it. -d6 charisma if you survived.

But +d6 CON vs Drinking, I should hope.

>also bonus +1d6 languages, all unintelligible

post it
I love this shit.

Seconding that you should post it.

Also you cant be as bad as the d6 homebrew my friend runs, it's like risus but with d&d 3.5 style custom spell creation. An extra 1d6 damage and an extra 10 feet of range cost the same number of points. Also you roll 1d6 for how many skill points you get. Oh and it's straight contests of d6 for defense and attack and damage and toughness and the like, so basically all you have to do is put a shitton into a single attack and the enemy literally cannot compete. The system is completely broken, and the adventure we are in is incredibly railroaded. Problem is that people in our group keep being unavailable so that ends up being half of what we play because I am sick of GMing and the only other person who GMs only wants to run that homebrew.

Some of the fluff is okay, the races are ok if you are into that shit. But the system is just wrong. Not even bad, it's just incorrect. I'd help him but it wouldn't matter.

Are we posting our private shames? I made a game while on meth back in college.

daijoubu. your time has come again. Veeky Forums has become shit and so your old homebrew has become more Veeky Forums than anything else on the board right this second.

Sometimes I feel like I was the only person in the hobby who wasn't a massively embarassing retard in my younger years.

>>Talent Trees
What's wrong with talent trees?

>basically half of /gdg/

/gdg/ avoids d20 like the plague from my observations.

Yeah it's all about dice pools and probability curves.

d20 as a die gets too much emotional bleedover from D&D. I think it's very serviceable.

>linear probability

Yuck. At least give me the median of 3d20

If you work in increments of 5, a d20 can do the job of a d100.

Also, why would you use such a multi sided die for a bell curve? 3d6 gets similar results to d20 while on a curve.

You tried to do something creative, even if it wasn't perfect that's still a pretty neat-o thing.

POST IT

Personally I'd rather use xd6 keep the median if I have to use dice at all. The 3d20 was if we had to use d20s.

But I prefer playing cards with persistent hands for rng.

this

>not discarding backups every three years

>being in high school less than three years ago

Which is it, OP?

MUH CREEATIV FREEDUMS retards get asscrashed over them for some reason, just like they got asscrashed over 4e not allowing them to play basket weavers. FFG Star Wars does them pretty well.

>discarding backups every 3 years.

What the fuck is wrong with you?

Why would you ever discard a backup?

POST THE SYSTEM

STOP TEASING US user AND POST YOUR GODDAMN SYSTEM

To this day I'll occasionally remember the homebrew anime classes I made for 3rd edition D&D and cringe. It wasn't Coldsteel the Hedgehog bad but it was still pretty retarded.

There are definitely times when it's reasonable to.

But every three years is fucking retarded.

As a Fucking Casual who's interested in exploring new systems, what is the significance of bell curves and linear probabilities and the mentioned die?

Don't worry, if you're in the UK the government backs everything up for you.

Forever.

When Alfie inevitably ends I hope Incase will revisit it.

>D&D based rules, but with WW Attribute + Ability set and a 2d20 system

Drink with me help me forget

There's some comfy job somewhere that is just taking care of those backups. That sounds comfy as fuck.

I made a DragonBall homebrew when I was younger. It was excessively complicated and could only be played with an Excel spreadsheet open at all times to calculate hit, dodge, and damage since any action other than punching people could drain your power level which recalculated all of your stats.

Damage stats like Strength and Ki would multiply dice results. Do if you punch someone for d6 damage and had a Strength of 3.4 you'd multiply the result. Then if you spend a turn "powering up" you could raise your stats by 10% making your new Strength 3.73.

Speed was OP as fuck since if you ever doubled you opponent's Speed it gave you 2 turns for every 1 of theirs. Speed also affected your Attack and Defense rating which impacted how often you hit or missed.

This only barely scratches the surface of how needless complicated this game was, though. Fuck ...

Multiple dice, added together as a sum, distribute their probability as a bell shaped curve. The extremes of their results are multiplicatively harder to achieve, and their average results are much easier to make happen. On 3d6, 10 happens about 50% of the time. 3 and 18 less than 1% each.

A single die of even faces, by comparison, is a single line probability. Each possible result happens at exactly the same probability; an even cut of the 100/number of faces.

In game design, to continue the thought, assigning critical examples and average DCs on rolls to the extreme of either set means the gurps 3d6 has a better average and more spectacular crits than, say, DND and it's d20s.

If by comfy you mean sitting in a secure, environmentally controlled, warehouse where machines do 100% of the cataloging, and you just sit there watching security camera's with one other person all day, doing computer based, SJW directed, training as required, with no access to the outside world beyond two redundant phones that ring every 30 minutes as part of a regular check, and no foreign electronics or materials because national security, then sure.

"Comfy."

Oh, and the toilets broken. They've yet to find a plumber with a clearance to come fix it. And no, you can't just escort him into the facility and watch him fix it. That's what caused the last security incident when the plumbing contractor leaked.

matter of taste mostly, but:
d20s give you a linear probabilities, so 20 is as possible as 10 and 1 and whatnot. on the other hand, every +1 bonus is exactly 5% chance, so its handy in quick calculating weight of penalties/bonuses
3d6s or other curves give a better, more fun probabilities - 10/11 is most probable, and chance of getting any other result on each side gets smaller. But each +1/-1 is different depending on how far you are from the peak, and it can cause a bit of confiuson. for me, curves are just more fun and are better at acting this kind of real you are looking for in rpgs.

I remember my friends doing something similar. It had chibis, "autosapiens" (humans that got assimilated by nanobots and turned into robots), fridged (mutant humans that live on flying machines in the upper atmosphere) sapient raptors, and the like as playable races. My only contribution was all sorts of irritating character flaws like Nervous Tick, Social Gadfly, Can't Say [INSERT WORD/PHRASE HERE], etc. God, it was awful.

Here is the system (Sorry for the wait, got paranoid there was something buried in there that might have doxed me), there is like four different versions of it ranging from half-finished to barely started.

Dig up whatever's salvageable. Then watch all the documentaries with David Attenborough, dig through your old setting again, and go create something truly magical.

I've watched "Life on Earth" and started on "The Living Planet". It doesn't matter what kind of landscape you're after, ash, desert, tundra, mountain, lava tunnels underneath islands, you can see what it looks like, he can tell you how it came to be, you get glimpses of how they might look if things were slightly different.
You get a good idea of how humans evolved, and through that you get a good idea of how intelligent life might evolve from a slightly different ancestor. You also get a good idea of how a whole lot of other species evolved, and you can apply that knowledge to your own world and the creatures in it.

Seriously, Attenborough should be required watching for anyone who wants to create their own setting.

I know that xeno-smut anywhere. Well, time to scrub the ferret I guess.

OP delivers!

OP you are a gentelman and a scholar
Or a lady and a scholar, I try not to assume

Awesome OP, I cant wait to read...
>Begins reading
>Bunny Knights
>Dark magic is a single category where all other magic gets divided up neatly

I instantly trust this man

They try, but it rules them from its grave. I watch them going to bigger and bigger dice, from d6, to d8, to d10, to d12, to decks of 30 cards, to decks of 52 cards, to d100. Pretty good proof that they have no idea what they're doing.

I wouldn't treat projects of different people like a linear progression.

I think one of the only systems I can remember me doing back in high school was a game setting I based off an old Dungeons and dragons game I played and a character built off neverwinter nights. It was basically a 1D10+skills+Attribute+modifiers system about playing demigods chosen by a goddess to fight against an evil God who usurped the cosmic order.

You had like 20 or so points that could be spent to do mind boggling powerful things or not die at 0 HP. But each point was forever lost if it was ever used and the points were the only thing keeping you from getting destroyed by Fate manipulating the world around you into destroying you. So the longer you played the more impossible things would get until at one point you'll burn your limited resources die.

Only for another hero to be chosen and given the power to restart the process all over again in an infinite cycle.

This, flawed but well-meaning systems are cute!
CUTE!

>Half of those things are true of the system I'm still working on from high school.
It was a simpler time where I was a sheltered child and didn't know about all sorts of fetish crap on the internet. There have been at least five major lore overhauls to cut out things that could be suggestive. About four other people collaborated with me to shoot down my dumb ideas.
Just keep moving, get friends who like different things, and listen to them.

>If you work in increments of 5, a d20 can do the job of a d100.
i.e.
>a d20 can do the job of a d20
No shit.

I remember making shit like this back in high school. I have a whole box of notebooks filled with nonsense hombrews about goddamn everything, from video games to books to the goddamn promo art for Pikmin. Not the game. The promo art. I think at one point I even tried to make a tabletop version of Corruption of Champions.

In then end though OP, you did something creative. Enjoy that, and learn from the mistakes of the past to make better things in the future.

Xeno is like his magnum opus. Not just the concept and the art, but the writing and comedic timing of the panels is great, and he manages to make the space goats feel oddly human and credible in an awesome way.

>Implying they give that much of a shit about people's privacy.
I'd be surprised if there are even security cameras there. It's probably just a locked door and if you pick it you're home free.
What are you gonna do, sue the UK government for getting you blackmailed? in the UK?
Good fucking luck m8

System need more pouches

>Xenobiology
Is this actual porn or just an webcomic
I don't want to be disappointed

I could forgive it all until it got to d20 based.

Honestly I say anyone who is willing to change their lore to keep retards on the internet from complaining has already fucked up. Simply because Veeky Forums thinks everything is a fetish. So that just leads to removing everything.

Probably the only good western smut out here.

Pretty good porn, check it out.

Its porn

I'm glad I was just an autist honestly.

>rules for owning businesses and economic warfare
This actually sound pretty awesome.

Are you me user?
I remember using calculators to play my DBZ RPG, because for some retarded reason it involved multiplying your ability with what you rolled on a d10. And when your Fighting stat is 2435600, shit gets complicated. We had a lot of fun but holy fuck, that shit was retarded.

When I was 15 I created a stupid wargame to me and my brother to play with.
We used my old grandpa checked table cloth as a board and LEGO as miniatures / setting.
>Units had 4 stats: Vs. Infantry, Vs. Armoured vehicles, speed, range.
> Each general can use one unit for turn, said unit can move and attack.
> Attacking: You roll a number of dice equal to your Vs Infantry ( when attacking dudes) or Vs Armoured Vehicles (when attacking tank) , the target ALSO do the same. The one who roll higher survives, the other die.
>Example: A soldier with a bazooka rolls 2 dice against a tank, the tank rolls 3 dice against infantry, soldier gets a 10, tank gets a 8, tanks blow up, soldier survives.
>Bug: unit out-ranging other units automatically wins, so in the end it was a sniper and artillery wank fest.
I also remember making a long list of support abilities and such but I trashed everything since I could not fix the range bug.

ho shit so did I.

>Reading through these
>"Hah, thank god I never made anything this retarded or crin-

have the defender still roll to survive as opposed to kill their attacker?

This is gold OP. Thank you for sharing.

I was a dumb kid.

Im away from my home PC at the moment, give me a day.

Are you implying that classes and spell lists are positive inclusions in a game?

Ive posted it on Veeky Forums before. Its not the worst thing in the world, but its definitely unplayable.

Only have time to skim through it now, but at a glance it doesn't seem completely unsalvageable.

>Edition II is in comic sans

I only found the comic

>discarding backups
You are cancer.

When I was in middle school I made up a prestige class called "Psionic Dragon Rider". I then posted it to dandwiki under the username "Shadow".

>retards on the internet
They're actually my childhood friends who wrote half the lore themselves. While I do agree with you, I trust these people to spot blatant problems with setting stuff.

I also trust them to break the mechanics every step of the way. The first combat encounter of any homebrew is a hilarious thing.

It's a porn comic. Porn comes in many media. Next time specify what medium for porn you care for.

Seems about the level of average homebrew. Probably has some sizeable kinks and glitches but nothing to be embarassed about.

That's adorable.

Its definitely salvageable, but as is it would only be playable by a good-humored group. The RAW are a bit rocky in places, and combat is basically just a balls-out orgy of dice.
Thanks

I made a system that ran off of a d100.

It was based off of the Warhammer 40k RPGs but in a kind of retarded way, using Fallout like metrics instead, with skills derived via formula from the SPECIAL and it was a roll under where you add your skill level to your roll, with the threshold being 25 for easy tasks, 50 for normal, 75 for hard and 100 for very hard.

It was a pretty bad mess.

Back when I was in middle school, I made a Patapon RPG. But this was no regular RPG, no this was a SURVIVAL RPG, based on the opening to Patapon 2 where everyone shipwrecks and you find a total of five in the wreckage. Whole thing ran off d6s, with mechanics for starvation, hunting, crafting, and generating more patapons to slowly expand your empire inland. I made up I think six new types of patapon (including the frankly cringe inducing scythe wielders) and wrote stats for every single monster in that entire damn game.

It was shit, but it was pretty good shit in retrospect.

You could check the artist's FA, too. It's linked in the About page.

my first Veeky Forums experience was freeform 40k pbp, I was dragged in as one of the game masters 'coz I knew ork lore
then there was play-by-post 40k RPG with homebrew d6-based system and endless bitching in one of the two game chats on subject of chaos admech not obliterating arbitres with heavy flamer

Wait fuck
Was I in a CP2020 game with you at some point a few years ago? All I can remember from it was playing a Hawaiian surfer dude martial artist.
I think I remember someone in that game posted that system at some point mentioning it as their homebrew.

I dont recall that...was this over skype or something?

It was over Skype yeah.
I might be mixing up games but I definitely remember seeing Da Meanest and Greenest over Skype at some point. I'm trying to remember a name or something. Andrew maybe?

Do you have a name?

I think I was just going by Richard

It seems you have me at a disadvantage then, because you seem to remember me, but I have no memory of you.
