Has the secret of incredible advancement of Tau technology finally been revealed?

Has the secret of incredible advancement of Tau technology finally been revealed?

Is this the first time that you've seen a comic panel where technology was obviously traced from a 40k model?

Pls.
No Ririposting.

WTF, the perspectives in this picture are all seriously off. Is whoever drew this a cyclops, completely lacking in depth perception?

There are more than a few hack artists working in comics.

I really don't see the resemblance.

It looks like they fisheyed a camera in the 3D program, pasted in a bunch of random shit, and then drew the characters in.

The shitty flame on that candle is also bothering me more than it ought to. Motherfucker can draw individual teeth but he can't draw a proper fucking candle.

Look at the centre part of the hull then the landspeeder's cockpit.

look at the glowing orange studs

The top of the flying base is a lego snowspeeder

Can't-remember-his-first-name Land was infamous for his Ultimate X Man run where he traced porn stars and models.

And there's those few pages from a venom comic that had the blatant Hammerhead traces

Look at the model, remove the cockpit canopy, then look at the centre of the ship's dish.

>Riri aka Oppress me or else I won't be able to have a goal in life Williams
Worst comic character ever

The top of the floating castle is a paste of a 3D lego snowspeeder model. He's taken off the cockpit and some of the extra pieces along the guns, but it's definitely the same model, just stuck on top of another thing he probably got in a random 3D model pack.

You can see where the guns are clipping through whatever he stuck it on.

Why the fuck did they do this?

So Tau technology is powered by chimps?

Because the artist is a lazy hack

It's cheap and fast to block out stuff in a 3D program, take a screenshot, and then trace over it in an editing program.

Pretty much everything in the OP image is just a 3D model with a filter on it, sans the characters themselves and the stuff outside the door. Pretty sure the secondary girl has actually been drawn around her phone with how uniform the buttons look.

It's simple actually.
They enjoyed thousands of years of peace, thanks to the warp storms that encircled them, and also disturbed time, meaning when only a few thousand years went by in the galaxy, the Tau were at peace and alone to prosper for more than 10k year if I remember correctly.
Imagine if the Imperium was completely at peace for that amount of time. No chaos, no xeno, nothing.

>So lazy he couldnt just rule of cool up a flying fortress.
how do these people get these jobs.

They're minorities who draw minorities and have the back up of minorities

It's a mystery, user.

It also had an Eldar Falcon and Necron Warriors.

It was really blatant that he stole files from DoW and put them in the comic.

If you people had any idea how much job in how little time Marvel and the other big american comics companies require from their artists, you would understand that copying is almost needed most of the time. If they had to do everything completely out of their own fantasy they would never be able to keep up in first place. Marvel and DC don not care that their artists produce actual art, they just want them to work fast: either you adjust or you lose your job.

U mad Warhammer boi?

What's going on with, I assume, Tony in that picture?

What the fuck happened to comics? I read Final Crisis (pic related) no less than ten years ago and the war was amazing. That was the last comic I read, did things got worse with time?

>They're artists who draw minorities and have the back up of minorities
srsly user, I know the /pol/ koolaid tastes good, but let's be serious for a second here. They make money based on how many drawings they can pump out. If there's a faster and effortless way to pump them out without anybody being the wiser, you bet they'll do it. And /co/mics are not the epitome of quality when you look at the big picture.

those tiny (not-rescaled) drones get me every time.

Jews happened. Jews happen to everything.
Everything you love will be bought by Jews and ruined. It's inevitable.

Tony's realized he's in a Greg Land book.

WE WUZ KRISIZ SUITZ N SHEEIT

This can't be real....

Sunspot is also traced over a Brazilian politician

You mean like Stan Lee and Jack Kirby?

>He doesn't know about the Big Two and their 'artists'.

Precisely.

gonna need some more pixels

>he posts the thumbnail

...

The complete lack of either skill, dedication, or simply time that is evident from American comics continues to amaze and horrify me.

It's a visual medium. I really don't understand how anyone could be OK with this level of incompetence as a rule. And it's not like there aren't any American comics with decent art. There are. They're just completely lost under the blanket of mass produced crap, and generally only count as hipster niche products.

But the disgusting porn I fap to has more artistic fidelity than the average American comic.

Most of these are pretty egregious but some of them are just the artist using references.

Not been funny man but neither Greg Land nor Mike Deodato are new to the industry. You can still go find art by Rocafort, Christian Ward, etc running now as well - it's not something that happened to comics recently, it's just that artists cut corners to save time and make money. Shit look at Bob Kane.

The comics industry is also niche as hell (and subject to massive piracy) so people really don't earn money in it. You'd have to be an absolute premium artist - the kind that don't really exist anymore, but Todd Macfarlane/Liefeld era (Deodato kind of rode in with those guys in terms of his big runs, like his WW run) - to make a lot of money on a slow book. And those artists exist, there are some who'll do it and get contract for it, but everyone is encouraged to rush to make a living now. And sometimes even good art is ruined by the colouring choices, or vice versa, because a comic book is actually 4 or 5 people scrabbling to make everything fit in time for printing.

Great new artist on DC/Marvel properties for me would be Bilquis Evely. Her art is very very good and she seems capable of hitting the monthly schedule.

There are definitely big American comics (meaning Marvel, DC, Image) being published with good art. Shit often Image is just a good artist being thrown around with a mediocre script.

>millennials shocked to find comic artists trace porn "these days"

Comic artists have been tracing porn for decades. It's just that prior to the existence of the Internet, unless you owned a copy of the specific porn magazine that it was traced from, you wouldn't know for sure, and even if you did, you wouldn't be able to easily share the knowledge with others.

Back in the early 90s, Wizard magazine did an article on the prevalence of tracing in comics. A lot of Marvel art was traced from Image Comics.

I think it's mostly just the Big Two (Marvel and DC) who churn shit out like this. They've got a core of very rabid fans who will buy anything they set out to keep up with the story.

Other IPs and publishers actually have to hold onto their readers so they can't get away with this tripe.

Image definitely puts out those blatant 3D Poser comics on occasion.

...

Greg Land.

>Why the fuck did they do this?
There is one, and only one, rule for making art for a syndication comic product:

It must. Be done. On time.

That's it. That's the entire thing. After the writers, editors, and everyone else gets time to mess around with an issue, there's very little left of the weekly/monthly period to churn out the actual pictures. So the chief requirement for the artists is simply to be able to work to schedule, week in week out. So basically all of them use shitty practices, simply because it's faster.

No but there's ton of hints of the Imperials losing a bunch of ships to the sector (One in the HH and the other fleet that was sent in to observe the species in the original fluff) so its not that wild of a guess that the Tau simply found the remains of these ships in their planet and learned from them, eventually reverse engineered them to aid in their technological progress while they were caught in the warp storm.

Nigga, there were terrible series out during that time too. Current DC is on point.

He says "Big 2" but that's 90% Marvel.

Could be worse. Like the time Magneto was drawn over the king of Spain and the Spanish royal family threw a shitfit.

Once upon a time, Greg Land used to know how to draw and he was a solid house artist. He started getting lazy right around the time he was the lead artist on BoP.

Same goes for a lot of the lazier artists these days, like you said. Salvador Larocca is another bad offender who used to actually draw back in the day.

They didn't even remove the logos for fucks sake.
Were is GW with their sue happy selves?

Disney

Damn if forgot about that damn giant. Although in a fair world it wouldn't matter because this is so blatant it's not even funny.

...

WE WUZ TAU N SHIET

Sorry, where's the trace here?

Maybe they'd be able to hire artists who can put in the effort if they weren't going for a quota.

>Final Crisis
SHIT
TASTE

Tau battlesuit jetpack.

god i love the goon.

Okay, but why is his metal suit acting like flesh

>Is this the first time that you've seen a comic panel where technology was obviously traced from a 40k model?
Just came here from the board where one normally discusses comics, and yes because I don't play 40k.

I do have considerable experience with DAZ models though and enjoy finding examples where artists trace them.

American comics are produced like TV shows and movies. Media created by suits.

You won't see that kind of shit as often in European and Japanese comics, because those comics are typically planned out by the creators themselves.

Please don't tell me marvel is stealing tau AGAIN.
In case you don't know, when venom went to space some background aliens were tau fire warriors with a hammerhead.
This is actually getting pretty regular.

In the music video for Disturbed's Land of Confusion there's a Sabre tank Hunter.

>Like the time Magneto was drawn over the king of Spain and the Spanish royal family threw a shitfit.

Tracing the royal portrait and headswapping wasn't the problem. It was the artist's idiot decision to reproduce all the medallions and ribbons on the King's suit -- one of which not only denotes "King of Spain," but by wearing it technically MAKES you the King of Spain (the way crowns used to). Juan Carlos removed it from his suit and pinned it on his son Felipe when he abdicated the throne a few years back. Also, you'd be surprised how much legal protection those kinds of things have in terms of reproduction and usage, and at this point Marvel can't afford to lose a foreign market.

>reading comics
>2017
I guess it's really just the big 2. But comics have been pretty bad for more than a decade.

Eh, Greg Land is a best case scenario nowadays.

NOTE: Picrelated is an actual panel from an actual recently published comic from actual Marvel

at least there's precedent in jokaero

It was like last year now and Hellcat was garbage all the way through.

Yeah but that's not finished right?

That's a mid-production panel right? Right?

Nope, it was sold like that. Art by Natasha Allegri of Adventure Time, I assume it was a rushed fill-in.

Well yeah by "recent" I meant "mid-10s"

Ha. Ha. Ha.

Jesus Christ. That looks like something you'd see on a middle schooler's deviantart page

I'd love to show this to Alan Moore and see his reaction

Grant, stop trying to conceive complicated plans to kill the guy

Papa king or son kind? I want to see the pics.

>marvel can't afford to lose a foreign market
>marvel the makers of what is probably the most financially successful film franchise in history, can't afford to lose a third world country's citizens as potential buyers.

???

I don't want to get into franchise wars or anything, so don't take this as a slight against DC. But what are you smoking?

The way that marvel has been handling its comics for the last few years leads me to believe they don't give a flying fuck about losing potential buyers despite how little sense that makes

No, they're trying to go after the SJW market, reasonably thinking that it's growing, while the rational people market is shrinking. They want buyers, they just don't want you.

But nobody needs spain.

Marvel has far bigger problems than losing a non-market like Spain, they first have to gain a bigger foothold in the local market before caring about foreign customers.

>this comic will now be front page news and opinion pieces on bleedingcool and other shitrag web outlets for 2 months

Just helping add to the joke there Goon.

There might be long term potential in SJW (though I have no idea one way or the other), but I don't think the comic side Marvel actually has any growth to show for their efforts. I've only heard that they've lost sales

>No, they're trying to go after the SJW market
No they're not. They stopped doing that this year after the suits finally realized it was unprofitable.

>getting triggered by a comic page specifically designed to trigger /pol/tards
Really gets the melon swellin'.

>muh es jay double u boogeyman

stay retarded user, don't ever change

Not an argument

>hurr fight me!

You ever feel bad not fighting that bum on the corner? No, me neither

>words are hurtful enough to be akin to physical fights

nice mentality you have there. But still not an argument.

>gets triggered by adding to the joke, doesn't like the direction it took
>YOU MUST BE A DROOLING SHEEPLE TRUMPTARD

Sasuga tumblr-chan. I funded the Kickstarter, bumblefuck.

Spain is first world dummy. They took the US's side during the cold war.

Can you please stop this denial game? It gets annoying after a while.

Whatever word you prefer to call it, this trend exists, and is something Marvel comics tried to flirt with in recent years

They can work on a deadline. Shit out 22 pages a month consistently and the bosses don't care.

>a comic page specifically designed to trigger /pol/tards
>not to parody cheap SJW virtue signaling gimmick marketing tactics employed by Big 2

This is a real thing in some places. I am not /pol/ in the slightest, I'm left wing libertarian by my ideals, but is not an outlier, there are actual movements to encourage that kind of thing. SJW is a buzzword these days, but they still exist and still want to force you to decolonise your mind. Fucking google evergreen state college.

That's the Bleeding Edge armor, made of liquid metal nanotech stored inside of his body and able to be shaped into various forms.
