Heavily underrated, both in settings and in mechanics

The system is practically unrecognizable as 5e desu. I basically hacked it to be GURPS with a D20.

Other major changes:
>brought back gold=exp
>completely reworked the magic system for all non cleric and wizard casters
>changed how druid's wildshape works
>reworked armor to provide DR instead of just increasing AC
AC has actually been one of the biggest sticking points I've had. Finding a way to balance it against the attacker's skill has been a pain in the ass. I still haven't found a solution that I completely like yet

From 1987 to 2000 AD&D 2nd Edition was the current in print D&D. Halo in middle school suggest he was about 10 to 14 years old in 2001, and could easily have been playing AD&D as a kid.

Late 90's D&D was the shit. Dungeon and Dragon were good magazines that had had great adventures and it was easy to get a game together because I was a kid in school and willing to DM.

GURPS
Shadowrun
Dark Heresy
WoD
Degenesis

I like the lore on all of them, I only like the rules for half of them.

Wow.

Yeah. That's a real close top 5. I was considering BRP over mythras, and waffle back and forth. The other game I was considering for #5 is ffg star wars.

Not a big fan of call of Cthulhu setting wise, but I like the mechanics.

So:

Gurps friends:

What do you use gurps for? What books do you like for it?

Personally, I like it for non d&d fantasy, scifi, and urban fantasy.

Core set, modern, thaumaturgy, powers, low tech (or fantasy or dungeon fantasy), and then modern.

Never played it.

Me either. These aren't even all the books I don't have.

I use it for sci fi (it's actually pretty decent for Star Wars games with a bit of home brewing).

>WoD (both versions, despite the devs best efforts)
>RIFTS
>Shadowrun
>Assorted OSR
>Wild Talents / ORE

First and foremost, Dark Fantasy. You can get all kinds of brutal stuff going with GURPS and I love how low tech combat goes. Magic's kind of optional for me. I do like some magic-based games, but I prefer low magic for combat.

In all seriousness though GURPS looks interesting and I'll someday find a group willing to use it and build something awesome.

You must be fun at parties

I like GURPS in realistic, low fantasy games set in the dark ages/early medieval/bronze ages.

I also really like it for modern games or industrial-revolution games as well as those that revolve around mafia and organized crime. It is a blast to play.

Got to love a game where a fight between a dismounted Norman knight and Saxon huscarl is mechanically complex and interesting, as opposed to "they are both fighters in chain-mail".

>Chronicles of Darkness (Mage excluded)
>Barbarians of Lemuria

My group's homebrew Scifi

So many people who like d%... I love you all.

Let's play some d% game sometimes, it will be fun.

>Genesys
Has there been a preview of this or are you basing this on enjoyment of the Star Wars?

1. Warhammer Fantasy 3e
2. GURPS
3. D&D 4e
4. FFG Star Wars
5. Maybe 5e D&D but likely replaced by Barbarians of Lemuria if I ever manage to play.
