/40krpg/ 40k Roleplay General

"Varying Degrees of Canon" Edition

For all your questions on Dark Heresy (1st and 2nd Editions), Rogue Trader, Deathwatch, Black Crusade, and Only War.
Not the wargame, not Chapter Master, not Space Hulk. Inquisitor is okay, but not many people know about it.

Not sure between starting Dark Heresy 1e and 2e? Pick 2e.

>Why did FFG lose the 40k RPG License?
Because they were bought by Asmodee and that caused some sort of licensing conflict.

>Will GW make their own 40k RPGs now?
Probably not. But if they do it will likely be worse than you could possibly imagine.

Book Repositories (If you're planning to download any Rogue Trader materials, read the .txt file in the RT directory)

>necron
>player
what

There are homebrew rules for playing one in The Fringe Is Yours homebrewthingymajik. I think it was that one.

Don't really know why or in universe how you would play one, tho.

serious question

if the average man is 180 cm

the average space marine 220 cm

how tall is the the average primaris space marine?

and how tall is the average primarch?

>Years since my last RT game ended
>still haven't found another one

A-anyone running a game of Rogue Trader?

Nope.

We allowed a necron once. It was basically "I woke up and don't know what's going on so I will follow you until I get my bearings." He played him like an old man Paladin, constantly rambling about ancient codes even while getting magdumped by enemies. It was pretty funny at times, but it was a short game.

I figured this'd be the most appropiate place to ask as there's no 40k fluff general or something like that. What are the best 40k novels? I've been thinking of running a game but need to get into the setting's "atmosphere"

I think there's a list on some other board. It also depends on what type of game you are running. Obviously, Deathwatch is a different setting than Rogue Trader and so on. I personally like the Ciaphas Cain series, the Eisenhorn series, and the Gaunt's Ghost series. Eisenhorn is good for Dark Heresy while Gaunt's Ghost and Ciaphas Cain are good for for Only War. There's also a smattering of other stuff you could use for other lines in those series as both Ciaphas Cain and Eisenhorn have Rogue Traders. If you want to run Black Crusade, there's the Nightlord Omnibus which I haven't read yet but people seem to like.

...

>An Only War game? Can we get a brief synopsis of what you have in mind?

The start of the game I have planned, at least, is that everyone has been shanghai'd and black-bagged from across the Ultima segmentum and beyond, chosen for a specific but unknown task. It doesn't matter if you were a noble, a hive scum, a former guardsman, or even just got unlucky on your way to the store, you find yourself aboard a massive voidship with no idea what is happening. The regiment itself is a secret, as is almost everything else - the point for the start is to have everyone knowing nothing, just like their characters. By the end of the first session, though, I'm confident that everything will be explained and everything will make sense. I can say a few things however - you will be fighting xenos and heretics and other enemies of the Emperor, so you won't be secretly chaos or genestealers or whatever, and you'll be normal humans, so no secret spess mareens or skitarii or nothing. I'm also restricting some of the specialties available - while all the regular guardsmen specialties are open and unrestricted, the only specialist open will be the techpriest. It will take place in modern time, so post Indomitus Crusade, though due to time dilation of the Great Rift, time is relative.

I have a call to players already prepared, but I'm not recruiting until I get my job situation sorted out over the next three weeks.

I will be on Myth-weavers, but I wont be player hunting for a week or so.

I'll be keeping an eye out for your announcement then

We need an image of the Deathwatch cover saying
>Nazi Niggers In Space

hey, /40krpg/, its been awhile. Its MEGAguy, anything that requires my attention in the MEGA? Or can I disappear for a another few months for no reason?

There was a copy of Lathe Worlds OEF in the last thread, and Faith and coin oef a few threads back.

How industrial is the Imperium of Man?

Like, are there brands of mass-produced clothing that can be found across entire sectors? Or are most "brands" feudal creations of local craftsmen/companies that are restricted to a few planets in one system?

I'm mostly asking because I'm thinking about clothing descriptions for my NPCs. Like, how customizable can clothing be, would it tend towards uniformity or eccentricity, and what are the odds of having lots of similar clothing items available en masse when they're not uniforms or if they're for special occasions, like tuxedos.

There are updated versions of Lathe Worlds and Faith and Coin. Finally, we don't have shitty scans.

Other than that, do you take homebrew stuff?

Yes, I do, and if there's new versions, give them here, I'll swap them out

Here's the Lathe Worlds link.

This should be the improved Faith & Coin:

That was the wrong link. It's the old photoscan version.

This is the OEF Faith and Coin.

Ok, now its fixed.

>Party is tasked with visiting the head of a hive
>Mention offhand that the only people said head would grant an audience with are Nobleborn, Mechanicus, and maybe Arbites with a warrant.
>The party is suddenly fixated on either impersonating a member of the Mechanicus, or kidnapping an Arbite and stealing their stuff so they can try getting in that way
>They don't realize how fucking horrible of an idea this is, despite me dropping hints and almost flat out telling them "this won't work and will end badly."
>They won't budge because "MUH SUBTLETY," even though that went out the window when they started shooting people in the street in front of witnesses

This has made me rethink how to go about recruiting players in the future. Clearly I need to grill potentials more because I don't think I could stomach more of this lolrandumb shit.

Couldn't they have flashed the rosette or name dropped their inquisitor?

They were given specific orders not to in their briefing by their Interrogator. I've found that if you let a party do that sort of shit from square one, then all you're going to get out of the campaign is a bunch of INQUISITION FUCK YEAH series of events that have less subtlety than the Kool Aid man or an Eversor loli.

Oh. Were none of them a highborn, admech, or space cop?

>MUH SUBTLETY
Wait what? What's not subtle about their plan?

The part where they shot a bunch of people in public

One's a highborn, but that's about it. Like I said, they haven't even considered that possibility after mention of Arbites and AdMech

user you don't just pretend you're a member of the AdMech or the Arbites without getting into some serious shit. Even if not caught, it's borderline heretical (in my book) and will earn them the hatred of either group.

Are they talking about the Subtlety rating? Just tell them it's shit now.

Wait, the fuck? You told them they couldn't get in unless they were highborn, Arbites, or Mechanicus, and they immediately tried to go for the Arbites/Mechanicus options when they had a HIGHBORN IN THE PARTY?

Anyone interested in a lewd game of either DH2 or OW?

Like I said, they're not bright.

>Lewd
>One of the primary enemies for OW are dark eldar

Planets that have even the most basic level of industry will produce their own clothing - after all, its something that everyone wants, but needs to be tailored (rim shot) to the planet specifically.

More civilized planets will tend to favour Imperial designs (Gothic, Victorian, skulls n shit, whatever), but that doesn't stop worlds where geisha or war paint is the norm. It's a big galaxy after all.

Why not RT, where PCs can be dark eldar, magos biologis, etc? Or BC, because drug fuelled murder fuck parties?

Because he probably has a rape fetish and wants to force lewds on unsuspecting acolytes/guardsmen

>force lewds on unsuspecting acolytes/guardsmen

A fate worse than death

But what about when you go above and beyond the planetary level? Like, if you're Acolytes or a Rogue Trader?

Then it becomes a matter of preference and accessibility;
- Rogue Traders and Inquisitor's have the power and resources to acquire whatever accoutrements they want, and the more eccentric ones would have a variety of exotic shit that they had procured or had acquired.
- Acolytes and Rogue Trader crew would be similar, but would be more dependent on their superiors, probably needing to be on world to buy stuff, but there would be a supply accessible to them.
- Guardsmen would be dependant on their regimental quarter master, and once their uniform supply had dried up, they'd look for local replacements.

But you could assume that if the planet had an established Imperial presence, you'd be able to find your standard grimdark-esque fashion.

>Tfw you want to play RT/OW
>Tfw you're going to bootcamp next month

No lie mate, once you're out of boot, you'll find groups on base, Especially if you're posted in more remote areas.

My Black Crusade party is super fucking retarded and they're all going to die, possibly when I blow up the ship out of frustration. I just had to get that off my chest.

>My Black Crusade party is super fucking retarded
How is this different from a normal black crusade party?

How did the birth of the Great Rift affect your games?

Should probably be the cover of First Founding.

They're retarded in relation to a normal black crusade party.

I've generally found that GMs who say "No rosette, never" are the kind of GMs with Cluster B personality disorders who GM to play god and torment their players.

Greentext or story time

Give examples of how retarded they are.

it didn't, cuz most games aren't set in 99999999999.M41

Do you guys think Sonic Blasters should have Storm? They dropped it in Black Crusade for some reason.

Hey everybody, I'm not great with computer stuff, but I have a copy of No Surrender on my iPad. Can someone tell me most convenient way (For Mega guy) to get this to Mega guy?

Transfer it to your computer and then upload it?

Mine is, but the effect is minimal;
>Inquisitor is super fucking stressed all the time
>Guardsmen on board are veterans of Cadia
>Probably gonna have a perpetual pop up at some point

Information compartmentalisation is big in my game, so events outside the acolytes sphere don't reach them.

MEGAguy is going to sleep for awhile, will add it in whenever I wake up.

>Out of the many xenos races playable, which one irks you the most, or you find hardest to fit in your games? Maybe the Tau or their Kroot allies? Or perhaps the Dark Eldar or their more restrained corsair cousins? What about the Necrons or Orks?

All xenos PCs are MEME characters and should be airlocked (players too if possible).

Where were you when MEGAguy resurfaced, /40krpg/?

Politely advise them that some of their actions may have compromised their Subtlety by way of communiques or possibly hitmen from their Inquisitor.

...whatever you want. Sector and beyond is your fucking oyster.

WFRP question: Can humans learn runesmithing?

My player is wanting to play an autist with perfectionism and nobody is a dwarf.

IIRC, Runesmithing is taught only to descendants of certain Dwarf families

Who has cool home worlds, backgrounds, or roles they think are missing from DH2? Even just ideas?

You have other general for that user. I am frequent visitor of both and the other one needs you more.

BC question: How hard is it really to stay unaligned? What rules are missing (in any of the splats' content) for unaligned characters?

Agreed there, but he pointed out that the Rune of Stone only requires it to be perfect to work.

I can't argue it because his character is a perfectionist, so, I ask you.

Please direct me there.

Redpill me Dark Heresy.

I might start GMing a Dark Heresy campaign.
Already have some experience GMing Deathwatch.

>I can't argue it because his character is a perfectionist, so, I ask you.
Doesn't matter that he's perfectionist if he doesn't know how to do it properly.

The Eisenhorn and Ravenor series are good - more on the High Level Inquisitor side of things, but they showcase a lot of the setting.

On the Mechanicus side, the Lords of Mars series is really neat - if a bit schizo-cyberpunk for some. Also has a good showing from SM's, guard and a Rogue Trader.

The actual Dark Heresy novels aren't bad either - and they're set in Calixis, so they have some good descriptions of Scintilla and so on.

Primaris stats when?

When you make them.

The amount of people wanting to be spoon fed is atrocious. Prolly because the summer is here?

Does anybody saved the Mandragora Apocrypha? Before the Autistocalypse?

I'm not going to use it at all. My game is stuck in 5th edition so no new stuff allowed. Now you can call me whatever you want and I'll continue to play game I enjoy.

Also what the fuck, where did the rollforheresy go?

Corrosive weapon quality
>If a target is struck by an attack from a Corrosive weapon, the Armour points of any armour worn by the target in that location are reduced by 1d10 points.
>If the Armour points of the armour are reduced below 0 or the target is not wearing any armour in that location, the excess amount of Armour point damage is dealt to the target.

Mixing armour
>Characters can wear multiple armours if desired, but the protective qualities are not additive.
>When an area covered by multiple pieces of armour is struck, the highest AP value is used and all other armours are ignored for purposes of determining damage.

So how doesCorrosive attack works if someone wearing multiple layers of armor. Does armor damage peel away item by item or only the highest armor is damaged and the rest of damage is applied to character?

>When you make them.

How about:
- Unnatural Strength (5)
- Unnatural Agility (1)
- Unnatural Toughness (5)
- +5 Wounds
- When suffering penalties from fatigue or when Critically wounded but not outright slain, a Primaris Marine can enter a state in which he is able ignore any negative effects to his characteristics from damage, Critical damage, and Fatigue, and cannot be Stunned. He also gains the Regeneration (1) trait. The effect ends when slain or at the end of the encounter.

Should i give a harder limit to how long the Revitalizer can keep a Primaris going? I wrote at the end of the encounter because i don't feel like i want to give an arbitrary time period but i fear it may be too much.

Probably depends on the GM
I'd make it peel all the layers off before it does damage to you

F... fucking oldfag with your... old... fucking... old canon! Yeah.

#notmycanon

Also games that are in .999 are trash.

The site? It was rarely updated if not at all.

Sup dudes, quick question:

trying to get into DH 2nd ed here, and I remember hearing about 5 skills I should always take but can't for the life of me remember them. Little help?

I have mandragora apocrypha on my disc. Question is will the author sperg out and never upload the new version if i will give it to you, elegan/tg/entelmen?

I was
> Playing rogue trader for the first time
> Got to play as captain
> Got a job to deliver food crates to a planet
> Ork player decides to open it
> People are inside the crates
> Turns out that the planet is full of canabals
> Decide to blow the fuck out of the planet.
> Priest player leads a battle prayer
> Getting hyped for battle
> Ship comes on radar
> They win initiative
> Shoot us with battery
> Crit
> Blows up cabin
> Crew surrenders and are eaten by canabals.
Fun game

Dodge. Awareness. Survival. Tech Use. Athletics.

cheers mate

Probably Athletics, Dodge/Parry, Awareness, Interrogate, Commerce?

>no mention of Stealth

>job situation sorted out over the next three weeks.
There's always a need to take poo to the loo in India. You should go back and lend your shit holding expertise to your homeland.

Is Shas Pajeet?

Anyone have experience with servo skulls in their games? A tech priest in my group wants one as a companion.

we used one to remotely blow up a genestealer

Lucky you, my live group quit when I chose not to advance the setting. Now I've been stuck with online flakes and shitty snowflakes. It's awful.

Adapt Minion rules from Black Crusade or use rules for familiars from Inquisitor's Handbook.

Currently one of my players have an augur servo-skull to substitute his low Perception (21) and no related aptitudes. Player installed cerebral link to said servo-skull to use its abilities. So basically half-blind PC when connected to servo-skull via cable have Perception 35, Awareness +20 and active auspex. I'm using old familiar rules from Inquisitor's Handbook.

Just ignore it, it's just newfags using /pol/ memes without understanding what they mean.

Don’t forget that every servo-skull was someone at least remotely important. Scribe servo-skull probably spent his life with papers and was successful enough to continue doing his job even after death. Same goes for every other type of servo-skull. Hell one of my PCs became one after his death. Party called it by name and even gone to the Underhive to rescue it when it was stolen by a Reclaimator gang.

How much influence should I dock my PC's for fucking up? They're doing okay for the main story line but on some side shit they're generally not making themselves look great to other members of the inquisition.

Depends on how much they fucked up. From 1 up to infinity.

You have literal tables in dh2 core for that.

Would Nazi Negro Space Commandos work better?
