Have you never once in your life asked your friends for a favor? You're literally asking them to take a few minutes out of their (often very long) lives to make a decision that will most benefit the group in the long-term. And this isn't just helping you set up the group hangout or anything, these are decisions which could have drastic implications on your nature and the way you interact with the world, which opportunities you have, and many other things for... potentially eternity. And they're decisions that you and they will likely never be able to make again.

And in return, they get: Infinite-use resurrective immortality, everything they acquired and more (assuming this jumper spreads powers and items around- which considering they have power-sharing, they should), the chance to explore worlds they've only dreamt of, and probably more. They lose nothing other than the (comparatively-less) opportunity cost, and there's hardly any reason to complain (unless the jumper's an abusive ass). I know you're going to say "hurr but mutual power-sharing is inherently abusive". But it's not. At least not inherently. Because you don't have to force them into it, they'd probably do it if asked. It's not actually abusive, you know, because they only stand to gain from this whole deal. And they can leave at any time. And then, you spend ten years with them. Are you saying that the only interactions you can have with them is when you purchase shit with CP and everything else- that whole ten years (which is a lot of fucking time btw) is completely meaningless? That the only thing that matters in a relationship, is the exchange of gifts? But not just gifts, the specific gifts the other person chooses from a catalog? Seems kind of shallow of you, if I'm being honest.

Sounds like a dumb question, but given the chance, would you or would you not go on an actual jumpchain?

Would you swap your gender as well? I know I would.

Same reasoning Record & co. over on Spacebattles use.

And ya'll's claim you're so much better.

How many jumps have weapons/spells that can cause unhealable injuries?

...

...

Hey Heavens, have you decided on how you're going to handle Longinus discounts? No rush, I'm just doing some Companion build planning, and not sure how much CP companions will have to spend after Longinus (if they'll even have any remainder).

>Would you swap your gender as well? I know I would.

with enough shapeshifting perks gender is no longer a concern

Sure, why not?
Hundreds upon thousands of people will live out their lives doing things that won't make them happy just to get by. If there's the chance to break away, it doesn't matter what the risk is, there's no reason not to take it.

Yes and No.

I don't care where, let's go on an adventure across space and time!

...

In a heartbeat and probably.

>I'm usually not a fan of companion muling tactics but the Worm jump is set up to heavily encourage it.

And like that you've just guaranteed that the next update is going to make this point fucked.

All because you wanted to whine.

Discounts are now a general thing. Humans might be getting a smaller Gear stipend. Current version is in the upload folder, I'll give it one more look in the morning.

I also forgot to give companions a thing along those lines so that'll be in the next update, too. My bad.

...

Worm went out of his way to make mass importing impossible already, if he nerfs it any further there's going to be an actual problem.

Fuck yeah I wanna go on a journey of over time and space.

...Maybe. I'm pretty quick to get altforms or powers that make the distinction pointless though.

There's always a fucking problem. You so much as sneeze and some user starts whining about how his jumping rights are infringed on by contamination of his air.

Sometimes there really is a problem. Nerfing people's years-old builds is a real kick in the nuts.

Wow, a a single-line "witty retort". Oh, wait, sorry. Double. Not sure what I expected, to be honest. Pretty sure you're wrong, even, given I hardly remember them talking about companions ever. But then you're just trying to shitpost, aren't you? Also, really? So is any reasoning at all "SB reasoning"? I've thought about this extensively, and decided that it'd pretty much be the only way to do things were I to go on a Chain, but in practice I limit it because it gets boring both to think about and build after awhile. And it's even harder to keep track of. Like, goddamn, it's not worth doing if you're just writefagging or making builds.

And kek. I don't claim "I'm better" than other people for playing differently in a CYOA game, and I never have. And I can't quite grok why someone would.

Sure, Timmy. That wasn't me that said that, though. Sorry for trying to discuss things beyond a one-line shitpost. I won't do it again. Not really.

Worm puts up with more than most people would. Even if people shit on him for the update at worst he'll just make the updated jump separate from the one on the drive and let people choose which one to use. Not like that hasn't happened before already

Yea, this. I got a single shapeshifting perk and decided the concept of gender no longer applied to someone who can change biological sex at will.
Personally, I'd give up everything to just go to a different world and get even a modicum of jumper powers. I don't want to live on this planet anymore.I've been hit with the realization that I'm ultimately meaningless and my life won't amount to much more than a menial existence of being a wageslave. I'd do just about anything to get out of this sad and lonely life if it meant going somewhere else where I can live out something vaguely resembling power fantasies. Or at least come back with powers far beyond mortal men and try and fix this sack of shit mudball.

So Worm's going to screw with people because he doesn't like an inter-jump combo? Have a little faith, user.

>Don't care where
What would be the worst possible first Jump to be thrown into anyway?

Hell yes!

The first handful of chapters have gratutious gun porn, gratuitous violence, mind rape, anime bullshit and the protagonist committing infanticide.

No.

>Have a little faith, user.

That requires faith in the thread, and frankly at this point the only faith I have is that 1 out of 10 isn't a complete asshole.

Call me bitter, because it's prolly true.

Maybe that Salt joke Jumpchain?

how do i create origins for a setting in which each archetype is really an irreplaceable character role rather than a general occupational role, and the jump will have you interact with the main cast? for example a show where a group of 3-6 main characters each fulfills a role that could be a potential origin without any other characters or room that provide any leeway for creating separate origins

Drawback or no drawback?

Only if my chain didn't have the same tone as my writefaggotry. Because dear god actually being put through that would be incredibly awful karma.

I want a time train, dammit!

It really hasn't. There's like one exception.

>only Harry Potter fic I'd want to go too is HPMOR to give the MC a bunch of crap for being such a smug asshole.
I'd recommend Harry Potter and the Natural 20.

>I might retain a fanfic drawback just to go there in Young Justice .
The only fanfic drawback/toggle I can think of off the top of my head is Naruto, and I thing it specifies Naruto fanfic in the text.

Carrying that one over would make things... interesting.
Go to Harry Potter, IT'S A NARUTO FANFIC.
Mass Effect, NARUTO FANFIC.
Worm, NARUTO FANFIC.

Yes. Even if I died to something stupid in the first jump, like Team Rocket, it would still be worth it.

Yes, as long as it's temporary or controllable.

Don't do it Faputa

There's more than a few jumps where that's already happened. Or are you going to spew out your invalid jump meme again?

Can you name examples?

>tfw you would be forced to keep jumping the same Naruto fanfic with more and more out of place perks due to keeping the drawback

Fuck, I want to do this just for the hilarity of it now.

Sure. At least three of the Final Fantasies fall under that category.

>Drawback
Lovecraft, easy.
>inb4 my Shoggoth waifu will protect me

>No Drawback
Dead Space? The brother moons are set to devour humanity in a couple years if the plot stays on track.

Well, genderswaps are usually opt-in and at the start of nearly any jump. That would meet both definitions. Bodymod lets you flip-flop twice in a given jump, and that's without specific perks like shapeshifting.

I don't remember any final fantasy jumps having alternative versions? Certainly not with differently powered/functioning perks. Only thing I remember is Dirge removing the fluff (but not changing power or function) in some of his jumps to make short versions, but I don't recall any of those getting on the drive.

Oh hey, I know there's another user who has been tinkering with it before now, if you're not him.

Yes, without doubt. I would probably do the genderswap along the line, but not my first choice.

Given a chance to actually jump? Yes.
Swap my gender? No.

I like being male. Don't have to worry about female health problems, worry about pregnancy & that good stuff.

He's probably referring to the ones on Dirge's drive. They're easy to tell because most of the updated versions are a lot longer. They just won't be accepted even though they've been posted on thread, because there's too much shitposting that you'll never get any consensus. People will just bring up how the existing jumps are all OC and need to be removed and reject updates based on that.

Yes, if only so she doesn't offer it to someone like bancho and they end up coming back with PHENOMENAL COSMIC POWER. If that wasn't an issue... still yes, because well. Yeah, there's not really much I stand to lose. Except maybe my sanity, but I doubt it'd be any better if it was revealed to that pretty much all fiction is real and I chose not to explore it.

Eh, if I had nothing else to spend my CP on.

I feel like this is kind of a no brainer, but yeah. Freedom at last, freedom at last!

(also for

is super correct. I only have tasted a bit of the fruit, but man I don't wanna delve into the stupid personally. I want the jump to exist knowing some poor bastard had to deal with that)

I know its been name dropped at least once before. I'll try to draw up something present able with ideas, see if anybody else has been working on one.

I'd probably do it in Pokemon, if I was planning on starting there. The build I have for Pokemon only uses like 500 points, and I'm not too concerned with safety if I don't take dumb drawbacks. as the document says that the police will deal with the villain team.

If I do it at the start, I can bail out on all subsequent jumps if I don't like it. I'm pretty sure that just about everyone wonders what it'd be like to be the opposite sex, if only for a while.

Imagine an earth ruled by Bancho. Dear fucking lord.

well if I didn't want to commit suicide before, living in THAT fucking society would certainly seal the deal.

Look at the people who rule the Earth now and tell me that it's really any worse.

Yep, it'd be horrifying. And I know the memes disagree, but bancho isn't nearly the worst person she could offer it to. Not even close.

Yes, indeed. Even the worst places on Earth are better than being sentenced to eternal torture because you said something slightly politically incorrect.

Yes in a heartbeat, so long as time is frozen at home and I get sent back if I die.

>Spoiler
See shapeshifting is fun.

Absolutely, in a heartbeat. A lot of my chain is jumper being put through hell, I still wouldn't care. Definitely, even if others were granted the same opportunity.

no, I've gotten through enough gender issues via my own treatment irl, so nothing like that until I'm sufficiently "beyond human"

...Are you kidding? If you think modern Earth is the worst shit can possibly get, then you're seriously deluded.

Are you kidding? Of course I would! Adventure, fun, friends, power, what's not to love? Though if given the option, I'd probably avoid the darker jumps like SMT or 40K until I was ready to handle them, and even then...

>spoiler
I mean, maybe? Just to see what it's like? But to tell you the truth I'm pretty happy being a guy, so I would be fine never knowing what it was like to be a female.

Honestly, getting mind dropped into multiple backgrounds worth of memories, along with all the intellect and mental perks would realistically fix his issues most likely.

Yes and yes.

No matter how much I would get beaten down, it's still 10x better that a boring, monotonous life on earth.

And I want to be a qt3.14 grill

We'll never have to worry about that, since bancho would probably be dead by his third jump.

I'm confident that a planet ruled by Bancho won't be any different from what it's like today. For one thing it won't last longer than 5 minutes. Do you actually expect him to survive the chain?

The only one here that can be trusted to jump responsibly is whoever came up with that 3 million magical girls plan a while back.

I don't know, I'd put my vote forward for this user, personally.

Okay, yeah, but bancho was only an example. The mere chance that she could offer it to someone would Stalin or Ted Bundy- or the fucking Joker because our world isn't the only one out there- is enough to seal the deal.

Yeah, but I'd trust myself more than the omnipotent being who's willing to offer someone like me ultimate power because they were bored to not offer it to someone like ^.

Absolutely, and eventually. Not so attached to my bait and tackle that I'd never ever consider seeing how the other half lives.
Crysis
I fucking love the Nanosuits. I fucking love the aliens. So cool.
There's a Harry Potter/Abridged Hellsing crossover that's absolutely fantastic. Harry is a butler. And Malfoy gets recruited.
There's also a Harry Potter fanfic where the shard of Voldemort's soul takes over Harry's body when he's a baby. And this version of Voldemort basically just sort of stumbled into being a dark lord by accident. The Prewetts (Molly Weasley's bloodline) have a secret high power love potion and innate berserker magic.
There's also a Mass Effect fanfic where humans never get their hands on Eezo but do get a Prothean warning about 'The Destroyers', so stay in their home system and build up all of their tech and become not!Eclipse Phase transhumans. They're even working on a Dyson Sphere/Matrioshka Brain.

>omnipotent being who's willing to offer someone like me ultimate power because they were bored
That's why people have changed that to something that makes sense to them. Pretty much everyone has their own narratives now.

I believe that it was once agreed upon that if there were multiple Jumpers, we would declare earth (this earth specifically) and it possible its universe a sort of hallowed ground and thus leave it alone.

Honestly, I'd take companions if I thought I'd be able to write around them. But I'd probably bring a few of my close friends from real life if it wouldn't cost me a ton of points from the warehouse to pod them. It'd be fun to go on adventure with at least a few of my friends, as long as they wouldn't backstab me at some point for some perceived moral atrocity I'd commit. Though, I'm thinking that my sister and my friends are aware that's probably coming eventually.

I'm a guy, but I'm genuinely interested, if only for the contrast. If I'd like it, it'd be great, if not I'd be thankful since I wouldn't be dysphoric and suicidal. Course, if I go with my friends, I'd probably take a shapeshifting perk instead of a genderswap perk. I'm curious, but that isn't to say there isn't some value in using sex and sensuality as a weapon, particularly in street-level settings.

The only agreement was that people would run as quickly as possible away from what would inevitably be a fucking ground zero because some people have no self control.

Fair enough.

Sure, but I think it's optimistic at best that the Benefactor would only draw from this world for Jumpers when there are so many interesting places out there. And that if she did, that she would even consider drawing from... this pool of people no offense, guys, but c'mon. And even so, I'm saying that even if there's only one Jumper, the potential that someone like those examples could be given ultimate power with basically no way to be contested... isn't really any better.

Question for you guys. Do you think that someone straight out of first jump could beat the Skulls in the MGS jump on a regular basis assuming you get the appropriate perks/items that make you more like the boss?

I totally would. Zero hesitation on my part, the ride would never end!

>Spoiler

Yes, why wouldn't I? I'll do it on the first jump where it's free to do so.

(Same Poster) If they took Savant in Pokemon

>I want a time train, dammit!
Buy the Waveyrider in Arrowverse and remodel

Given that "straight out of first jump" could leave them with all sorts of superpowers, yes.

>Nanoha has a bunch of drawbacks that let you become a canon character if you want.

Huh. Are there any other drawbacks/options like this where instead of just taking their place you actually become them? I know Being Taylor is Suffering and basically the entire Servant supplement is like this. Any others?

Basically the things I would have are survival training, Mastery of marines hand to hand (prob to be replaced by CQC), Near Captain America Physical Fitness and Top Notch gun accuracy in a MGS loop. Odds?

can anyone help me out with this? kind of stumped here

Fairly decent. That's about what Big Boss has, and he can take them out just fine. Hell, not even Big Boss, really, just a body double brainwashed to think he was the greatest soldier to ever live.

It's because the true power of Big Boss is in the memes.

Tsukihime has one for becoming the protag. Banner Saga lets you replace people if you have a capstone corresponding to certain characters.

Of course I would.

I'd probably experiment a lot once I got shapeshifting.

Make an origin based on each character then. Use things they do, abilities they have and their storylines for perk/item fodder for the origin. Does give you more focus but it's also more limiting so up and down sides.

Unless I misunderstood the question. What jump anyway?

If you import your companions a lot, perk sharing is bound to happen at some point. There are no real downsides for anyone involved, and you have been sharing live and death situations with these people, who most consider family, for hundreds if not thousands of years.

Yet it's better not to speak much of it, seeing how jumpmakers like Worm might decide to start removing their mass imports.

Only thing worse that I can think is a murderhobo jumper who is into farming souls. Mostly because they wouldn't mind-rape you for the eternal torment part, so you will get to suffer it all on your own.

You can be Korosensei's replacement in Ass Classroom. There is also using the universal drawback thing.

Big Boss wasn't that strong and he could take them fairly easily.

right, that makes sense, but for the drop in alternative origins, would you take over their role and the canon character wouldn't exist anymore or would you coexist while more or less fulfilling the same role?
it's a regular show jumpchain, i finished it around the same time i got into this business, so i thought it might be a good start

Unless there's you really can't justify two of that origin's role at once, best to just have it be coexistence and let people work it out.

As for drop in...dunno, depends on what you're doing for drop in.

ok that makes sense, guess i have a better idea of where to go from now. i was also wondering about settings, i have a few ideas for a couple of different jumps, but the location is a problem since more or less it takes place in the same main hub area. what do you do in situations like these?
you have a trip, so i assume you make jumpchains? can you give me some starting advice/tips if its not too much to ask?
sorry for all the questions, i mostly lurked before, i don't really understand the meta still and i'm just trying to get a grasp on how to make something good

Mmm, well, there's not always a need for 7 locations. If you can only manage a few or even just one, it can still work.

I've made a few, yeah. Sure, what are you unsure on? There's a lot to cover so I guess it'd be better to know where you're unclear.

>perk sharing is bound to happen at some point.
Not really. Power-sharing is pretty rare, all things considered. It'll probably happen if you take specific perks, but it can easily be avoided. As I said, even for me it's mainly a theoretical thing because it takes a lot of the fun out of building for jumps to just say "and then I got everything I wanted".

>Yet it's better not to speak much of it, seeing how jumpmakers like Worm might decide to start removing their mass imports.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I have enough faith in our jumpmakers that they'll let inter-jump combos minimally affect their jumpmaking decisions. I'd be extremely disappointed if something like that happened, but it is what it is. Started to nerf options in one jump because things offered in another, and have it be treated as acceptable... Yeah, that'd probably mark the start of the End of Jumpchain, imho. If effectively censoring discussion of certain perks and chain concepts wouldn't itself.

The only ones I can understand doing something like that are the makers who've offered the relevant perks, as they provide the bulk of said capability, and were arguably used beyond their intended purpose. Obviously it'd be great if they provided an actual reason, so as to not set a silly precedence.

things not to do, general stuff you think people who make jumps should know, maybe your process for creating one, when to know a setting you might like probably will not work, anything you're willing to share, really
and are the 7 locations not necessary? i remember seeing the pmd jump by quicksilver only had 3 + the free pick and it was numbered pretty cleverly, but what about if there's really only one location? do you just say "hey you're here and you don't get to pick anything else fuck off"?

Well, you probably want to be a bit nicer. You still want to describe the location, especially if you're only going with one. They're encouraged things to include, location rolls, but not ultimately necessary.

Things not to do...there's a bunch and not everyone agrees on what not to do. There's not too much to say there if you're actually making a jump that's not been claimed/made by anyone else (Which you aren't).

Stuff I think you should know? Hmm. Try watching the series as you think stuff up or looking into online resources like wikis and the like if you get stuck. Sometimes memory isn't enough. Feel free to ask people for help if you get stuck, in thread or IRC. Try to stick to the series and show off the cool stuff in that setting/the stuff you like about the setting through the perks.

My process? Er, could explain but it'd probably need to be in another post and it's a bit more geared for making multiple at once. So I guess if you're really curious I'll do it in another post.

When it might not work? it's very rare that a setting might not work. A lot of things like Origins or locations or even the jump format can be played around with to fit stuff that ordinarily wouldn't work. I'd say to shy away from stuff where you need to have origins with massive power disparities until you do a few, since those can be a little tricky to handle.

do a few jumps*

What jumps have the best perks for mad science?

Power-sharing without any loss is rare, yes. But exchanging stuff or temporally passing down some powers is not that rare. Also, there are many skills (mostly ones related to science) and powers (biological ones) that shouldn't be hard to pass down.

>describe the location
alright i guess that can suffice. my main gripe with having only one location is that it would subvert the rules outlined in the quicksilver jump making guide. that entire section being gone seemed weird to me, but just explaining the location seems like a good solution

>Try watching the series as you think stuff up or looking into online resources like wikis and the like if you get stuck
yeah, along with having just finishing it, i still have all the episodes and the movie on my computer, so i've been going episode by episode kind of racking through to add any powers and gear and things like that. should i post wips or do people not really care unless its in a "finished" condition?

thanks for all the answers and replies, it's been really helpful. if you wanted to post your process, i'd definitely read it, but you don't have to if you don't want to

Genius: the Transgression, Girl Genius, and Van Hellsing have some good options.

Thanks user.
