One of the things about Fenrisians is that they start out as looking and acting more or less normal and can pass for normal most of the time, even the men. But the scraps of code that have leached into the population from interbreeding with Russ' Dog Soldiers has had an effect on them.

The introduction of a full blown Canis Helix into an already mildly mutated individual will result in the mutations becoming exaggerated. Elongated canine teeth, excessive body hair, face subtly altering so that the res position looks "grumpy" and often a change in eye colour; these are the visible effects of the super soldier augmentation.

A sad and shameful truth of the Canis Helix is that the mutations do not stop.

The inhumanity in features and temperament only become more pronounced with time. How much time varies greatly with the individual but eventually all Space Wolves become Wolfen. Sometimes the mutations mature so slowly that the individual, even augmented, will die old and in their bed (or someone's bed) before it becomes a concern. Most die in battle before they have to worry.

For the unfortunate individual who does not die as a warrior or whose curse grows quickly they devolve into the dreaded and pitied Wulfen. Typically they are not mistreated by their more human brothers, they are fed and given a place by the hearth to sleep. Most have freedom of moment within the Fang and in the surrounding lands. They are not more dangerous to the common folk than they were as men, just uglier and stupider. They get invited to the wars and it is there that they still shine.

It is sometimes a steep price that the soldier of Fenris pay to serve the Imperium as best they can, but they pay it and they pay it knowingly and gladly.

Inquisitor Commodus Voke in this timeline survived the Thracian Gate Atrocity.

In this timeline the APEX twins Ethel and Gretel were still present but they weren't captives paraded as captured in war. They were eating ice cream in the crowd.

They assisted in the cleaning up and mitigating the problem somewhat, though this is possibly one of the few instances that they have ever been in serious danger.

By the time anyone got their shit together enough to look for them they were long, long gone.

Voke was the Inquisitorial Representative of the High Lords prior to Hector Rex. After his 10 year stint in the big chair he went back to his job but the urging of his friends (such few as he had) and colleagues to retire due to age and failing health caused him to find a compromise. He is now spending his twilight years as the Inquisitorial Overseer to the chapter Guardians of t

Probably the same as Vanilla, traveling from shrine to shrine making sure standards are maintained and occasionally lending a hand in major battles.

So how would the Guardians of the Covenant fit in to this?

They are already the most reasonable of the Dark Angel successors in Vanilla, a fact that put's them in instant suspicion.

They value and prize knowledge and they have adopted the teachings of more than just their primarch.

Possibly they would be very well integrated into the higher officers of the local branch of the Imperial Army as each is capable of offering advice to their leaders on all manner of warfare. Possibly the failed recruits are often trained as officers given the abnormally high standards of education.

Downside is that they are maybe slightly beneath average in terms of individual performance compared to marines of other chapters. They have never won at the Feast of Blades, but they have always been invited and have always participated.

Inquisition is slightly annoyed with them as they collect ALL OF THE KNOWLEDGE! even the shit that they are not supposed to. The have an extensive Forbidden Tome collection.

They dream of an invitation to the Black Library.

How many colonies of Fenrisians are there and how many Space Wolves should there be?

Are they still at small Legion strength?

They are at approximately, Ultramarines strength, give or take, but slightly less well armed due to, you know, less industrial capacity.

Fenrisian colonies are scattered all across the galaxy, kinda like how Pastoral worlds are. Mostly consist of frozen worlds, death worlds that are not quite death and elses. A thousand or two are Fenris colonies but only around 200-300 are worth noting, and maybe less than a hundred are the original Leman-form colonies/research labs. Only Fenris answers to HK Grimnar. The rest listens to advice from the High Priest of Fenris, who then listen to the HK. Aka Ultramar but highly decentralized.

I'd say it should be 200 worth noting with maybe another 300 including minor outposts so they don't start to outshine Ultramar or the Hubworlds

Orikan hijacked a Deceiver Shard for mad buffs. Then he started breaking pieces off of it, infecting volunteers and turning them into Deceiver Vampires but with a portion of the buffs going to him.

This has developed into a magic pyramid scheme that he is running from inside his magic pyramid.

Is his magic pyramid by any chance itself scheming?

Njal Stormcaller was born towards the tail end of 800M41 though the exact date is unknown given his somewhat backwards tribes lack of calendar. He came to the attention of Rune-Caster Heimdall of Asaheim when his tribe was attacked by an equally backwards bunch of reprobates during a migration. He was detected by Heimdall as at this point in his puberty Njal's psychic abilities were just starting to shine out. By the time Heimdall arrived at the wind blasted islet that Stormcaller tribe was housed on Njal lay an inch from death, a spear driven through his chest and his lungs filling with blood. Stormcaller's had little in the way of medicine, rustic and homeless as they were, and certainly nothing to help their dying son with such an injury. Heimdall offered the care of The Fang for the dying boy but at the cost that he would be theirs to train. With little option the Stormcallers handed over Njal to the care of wolves and that would be the last they would see of him for a long time.

Njal was patched up in The Fang, nursed back to health and made aware of his unearthly powers and even more aware of the dangers they posed to him and those around him. He was told in no uncertain terms that he would never be allowed to go home until he mastered his gifts. At first Njal was more than a little unhappy about this and descended into sullen resentment and was uncooperative, seeing The Fang as his prison and it's inhabitants as his captors. A lack of cooperation was not an option for the psychically afflicted and Heimdall showed him visions of what happened to unprepared psykers, his centuries of horrific experiences collected and shown to a young fool in the merciless, lidless eye of the mind, unable to blink or look away.

Heimdall did not hate Njal, though many believed he did after that not least of all Njal, his intention was to frighten the child onto the right path and actually get him to take his studies seriously rather than spending his time looking for methods of escape. It worked, by the Deep Ones and Old Gods it worked. Some say it worked a little too well but Fenrisians generally don't do things by half measures.

Njal had seen such things in those visions. Horrific things, oh yes, but each had been defeated by power directed with wisdom and knowledge. Power alone was almost worthless, he had power and he knew that now, power without direction was as dangerous to self and friends as it was to the target. He needed to know. He needed to learn. Most pressingly he needed to learn how to read. He could learn as much as Heimdall could teach him but Heimdall couldn't know everything. But the great libraries of the Aett held the wisdom of powerful and wise practitioners all the way back to the days of Russ.

The horror of the visions he had seen spurred him on more than any lash or Heimdall's less than gentle verbal encouragement ever could. He learned to read quite quickly and his appetite for knowledge was voracious.

When Njal was maybe 15 or 16 and had started to grow a decent beard Ranek Icewalker, veteran apothecary, approached Heimdall and Njal and informed them that Njal was possibly compatible with the Canis Helix. It was not something that either of them had contemplated as Njal was not traditional Space Wolf material. He was a gangly youth with little in the way of brawn and sticky out ears. It was said in later days that Njal flipped a coin to decide his fate, others say he rolled dice but for whatever reason he accepted the offer.

Njal, upon the completion of his training and successful alterations, did return to his old tribe and in the times he could afford a few times after that but as the years past he grew more and more distant from them.

Njal is probably the greatest user of the Fang Library and even beyond the borders of Fenris and her colonies he is considered a great authority on matters of the warp, particularly the lesser seen anomalies. As now long dead Heimdall believed he did indeed grow to be powerful, possibly the most powerful Rune-Priest that the Space Wolves have ever had, certainly one of the most erudite.

Indeed, Njal is not what most people think of when they imagine a fenrisian psyker. His beard is well trimmed, his hair clipped short, (relatively) well versed in courtly etiquette, fluent in several languages including High Gothic and is even passable in Eldar High Tongue. He appears slighter of build than his battle-brothers but it is respected that, like in his training, he is using his unearthly abilities to boost his physical abilities.

It is known that he has done work for several inquisitors though exactly what is in sealed records and he will not say.

Yes, and I don't think their recruitment practices have ever been made clear, respectively.

A previous thread agreed that canon-style Eversors wouldn't be allowed, but I don't think a decision was reached on what Nobledark Eversors should be like.

I'd imagine they'd be a human equivalent to a dread? A human too fucked up to fight, but still very willing. Human tech level in 40k can't heal a human thats been shredded back to full health, but what do you do when you have a Cadian thats missing three limbs, a lung, and most of his intestinal tract, yes is somehow alive and just wants to get back into it?

Hook him up to a walking life support system, heavily armored, one hand is a heavy stubber, the other is a power fist, and he's and overload switch that turns him into a big ass bomb at will when he's surrounded by hoardes of green skins.

Oh wait, I guess this isn't really an assassin... Back to the drawing board!

Whole point of an Eversor is to be a crazy berzerker that kills its target and anything that gets in its way, and explodes if its actually stopped... It way too grimdark to ever be Noble.

We had an idea a thread or two ago that they'd be like a Grammaton Cleric from Equilibrium, except with more melee rip and tear than gun kata. So tranquil and merciless, with the art of killing distilled to its most pure and efficient form. They walk in the front door of their target, singlehandedly destroy the entire organization, and kill the boss with a bullet to the head, all without saying a word.

Don't know what other people thought, but it could possibly work. Keeps the laser guided missile crossed with human blender aspect of canon Eversors, but replaces the berserk craziness with cold efficiency.

Every chapter needs a Magnus.

Medical knowledge in the this Imperium seems to be slightly higher than in Vanilla. They did set about successfully repairing the Beastmen and the Ogryn for example.

And this Imperium does care about the dignity of it's people and value them more than just as an expendable resource.

A soldier that was so broken would be able to be repaired to the point where they got to enjoy some basic quality of life. They may wheeze a bit and need a stick to walk but they would still be seen as a person.

Their career in the Imperial Army would be over, though they would get their pension and get to keep their laser rifle with the obligation to keep it in working order.

Possibly if they were still young enough they could save up some of that pension and buy a servo-harness of the sort worn by ancient savants of the Inquisition and Void Born, strap some carapace to it and sign up with the local PDF.

There they would be held in high esteem, Imperial Army are the best of a world scooped off as tithe, the PDF are the best of what's left. He is a veteran of the Imperial Army and knows how shit is supposed to work and comes with his own weapon.

It's not the life he had, but it would be a life not too alien.

It's good as a start. It shows how Njal Stormcaller came to be but not anything about what he did after he became a Space Wolf.

It also helps that they can pass as a normal unaugmented human to the naked eye and even hold a conversation.

Right up until they spot their target, then they turn into a high speed thresher/blender/meat grinder combo because all their augmentations get activated and all the drugs get released into their system at once.

So what should be the number of marines?

If we assume that each major colony has a company sized deployment we will have ~200,000 Space Wolves not including the unspecified number on Fenris itself.

Is this the right sort of number?

In Faydor Karamazov's rebellion are there any Space Marines siding with him?

It sounds about right. I think we have about 10 million Marines total because of the greater ease of manufacture and implantation of the Mark III MP gene-seed compared to canon.

Would the Colony Space Wolves have any allegiance to Grimnar or are they as independent and autonomous as the rest of the colony?

I think there should be more eldar wearing berets.

I was thinking something more like this.

Makes me think of Lance Corporal Jones from Dad's Army. He'd lied about his age to get into the army early, made a career and life for himself in the army and lied about his age again to stay in as long as possible. When he had to leave for being too old he joined the Home Guard and lied about his age so they wouldn't kick him out of that.

I'm not sure if it's a happy thought or a defiant one or if it's just extremely sad.

On the one hand he had purpose and he found great comfort in his duties, on the other hand age and war's ending would eventually make it impossible for him to stay in. He was living on borrowed time but then so is everyone.

Dad's army was quite sad sometimes between the funny and occasional spots of badass.

Random thought: Savlar Guard regiments are probably flamboyant as fuck. At first, that was because hot pink, lime green, and burnt orange stripes with an iridescent lacquer was good and effective camouflage in the hideously chem-polluted wastes of Savlar. Now, it's because fuck you.

A once prosperous society of large coconut crab looking people with a loose coalition of worlds at it's height counting 80 star systems as theirs they did not endure well in the Age of Strife. Their people, though hardy of shell, were not sufficiently warlike and could not understand the great and increased enmity between what once had been good neighbours. Although they had an electrical biological defence they had little in the way of developed weapons and this was a weakness they paid for dearly.

They also had surprisingly little understanding of the warp and, at the time, no member of their species was psyker. They had abandoned the use of star ships many generations previously and had adopted a strange method of "folding" into the webway. Their primary method of perception was being able to smell/taste dimensions in a manner not encountered before or since in any other species and by this means became the only other species besides the elder to develop the ability to navigate that strange realm.

The eldar allowed them to violate a realm considered exclusively their own for no other reason beyond apathy. Their worlds intersected paths seldom visited and they made poor slaves or playthings when other more entertaining diversions were to be had in abundance.

For the most part the Saruthi had lived apart from the galaxy in splendid isolation, making wonderful works of art made to be "seen" by creatures with no eyes and written works in a form of xeno braille.

But it did not last. When the galaxy went mad they could not have been prepared for the whispers that seeped sideways into their dreams.

It is unclear exactly what they were tempted with, what dreams of things forbidden could be appealing to a race of blind crabs who dreamed of impossible geometries and poetry, but dream they did and tempted. Ultimately it was Slaanesh, the Newborn Queen, who held sway over their minds. She promised them, maybe, grandeur writ large across the stars in dimensions strange and twisted and impossible that they could walk. Maybe she promised them retaliation and sweet sadistic catharsis against those that had brought their works to ruin. Who can say? Further added to this problem, exaggerating and growing the corruption in new and exciting directions were refugees from Ursh, wicked men debased and debauched, who carried with them the Necroteuch and all the sorrows and splendour held therein.

It was in this time that the Saruthi as a people collapsed. On the one side of the great and unpleasant and new divide between them were the Broken who thrashed and tore at the world, twisting space into unpleasant, impossible and obscene shapes and did unspeakable things to their young spawning a race of monsters to serve them as slaves and on the other side were the Sane who needed to exterminate the Broken to the last as a cancer needs to be exorcised from a host.

As the war ended there were maybe only a few worlds, no more than six, were left inhabited of the old Saruthi nation in a patch of the sky to be known to later Imperials as Wilderness Space and not much later than that quarantined by order of the Inquisition.

For the longest time it was assumed that they were another utterly lost cause. One more people lost to the Age of Strife and the depredations of the Great Adversary. What of them was left were not Saruthi as they once were as every generation birthed more mutations each seemingly more abominable and insane than the last.

All until the Aschen War of 307M40 when well ordered ranks of strange beings seemed to fold out the air, hard of carapace and fearless. They took the forces of the orks and the Chaos marauders apart in an inhumanly meticulous and methodical manner even going so far as to carefully dismember the dead and the injured.

A seven group of them detached from the others and approached the Imperials, each standing 3 meters tall and broad they stood there and sniffed the air to taste them and their space form. With no words exchanged and what can only be assumed to have been an entirely one sided exchange of understanding the seven group turned away and returned to the dismembering before they all folded away again.

Saruthi sightings into the Dark Millennium have been sporadic but seem to be increasing in number. It is clear that they must be again multiplying and their peaceful days of innocence are behind them now, now the Sane march to war. No homeworld of them has been found, though the Harlequins sing sometimes of a "Hermit world of Crabs". No dialogue has been achieved between the seemingly resurrected Saruthi and the Imperium.

There's at least one- Zu'se, nanotechnology expert, who occasionally gifts planetary populations with advanced cybernetics as part of an argument for the superiority of necrodermis over flesh. Without bothering with such petty niceties as 'medical ethics' and 'consent', obviously.

Are the Sisters of Silence actually silent in the Noble Darkness or do they just keep the name because their founder was a mute?

As in canon, Asurmen left the Empire early because he saw where things were headed and wanted no part of it. Again, as in canon, started his own space dojo and trained some of the finest warriors from across the Craftworlds. When Slaanesh was born Asur was assaulted by legions of daemons and Asurmen ended up sacrificing himself to save his students (it's detailed on the notes page). However, his students repaid the favor by rescuing his soulstone before the daemons got it.

Asurmen's death was a bad thing, because he was one of the only eldar who all the Craftworlds would listen to aside from Eldrad, and he got himself a bad case of dead (it's implied the resurrection thing hadn't started up yet).

Asurmen had many students, the most talented of which represented the eldar along with the newly formed Harlequins in the Raid. Of those who survived, most noped the fuck out of there once the raid was done. The few who stayed on became the Phoenix Lords. Arhra is implied to have gotten a screw loose from the experience, and ended up going nuts later.

Exactly what the Phoenix Lords are doing is still a mystery. They've kind of gone the same way as the primarchs by M41, in that they've all either gone missing or the original has died. There's been talk that the resurrection thing they do results in the new Phoenix Warrior being not quite the same as the original (think Doctor Who), so it's not like having the original around to pump for knowledge. It's been suggested they've been getting more powerful as the years go by through the agglomeration of souls.

Eldar see the Phoenix Lords as their equivalent of the primarchs (or more accurately, the primarchs as their version of the Phoenix Lords), only better because they're not dead.

At least, that's the general gist. The ideas surrounding them are a bit fuzzier than usual.

They probably wouldn't be Space Wolves. They'd call themselves Wolf Brothers or somesuch. That said, it's more a local designation than anything else since the reasons for the breaking of the legions was not forced but more for purposes of autonomy and functionality, so saying you're with the Wolf Brothers is like saying "yeah, I'm from the Space Wolf group on Skandfsjal". 10k years of cultural drift does the rest.

Because their founder was a mute, and also because the way she taught them to fight was in utter silence to play up the image of creepy, merciless warriors. When you're primarily fighting rogue psyker god-kings, anything that disrupts their concentration and makes them freak out is immensely helpful.

The Sisters of Silence could and did talk off the battlefield, though Krole of course couldn't except through sign language and often had to have someone talk for her when talking over the vox (especially since psyker telepathy was not an option).

Part of this is to remove some of the grimderp around Krole (Metal plate fused to her jaw making her mute? Why?)

At least one of their number jumped ship and joined the Harlequins, at least for a while.

By 999M41 he is a wraithguard dressed in furs and skins and what would be exposed skin painted in woad and ash. He travels with the Hunters of Kurnous, though whether he is one of them and a man with two gods is unknown to most though probably known to his friends. Friends like Bjorn Fellhanded of Kraken Bay.

Of all the soldiers that Oscar took with him into Nurgle's Mansion only Bjorn is left and of all the eldar save the Phoenix Lords only he remains. They were both friends in life and have remained friends in unlife and half-life. The Hunters have come to The Fang often down the long years and bang on his metal hide and wake him up for another adventure, often dragging impressionable younger warriors with them. Like Russ in ancient days they go charging out into the cold and the snow and disappear into the trees to not return for several months. But return they do with far fetched tales of daring deeds and for a time Bjorn speaks as if he were alive and whole and full of fire once more, carousing and singing and trying to dance.

But soon it is time to sleep, the Hunters move on, Bjorn returns to his nice warm workshop with it's comfy berth and soothing murmuring of The Fang's comings and goings and he sleeps again.

It is getting harder and harder to wake Bjorn these days. Sleep weighs heavily on his shoulders now. Soon, perhaps very soon, the sleep will be eternal and he will meet his old Nordyc gods. His long watch is coming to an end, his half-life is fading, and he is not very unhappy of that.

Of his friend the Old Harlequin? Who can say what he will do then. Perhaps they will still turn up to The Fang, perhaps they will also fade away. There aren't many Hunters of Kurnous left and their numbers are failing.

The Necroteuch should be the thing that gave the Broken the advantage over the Sane, allowing them to move in new directions and out maneuver the Sane.

They have access to the Webway and Eisenhorn only Exterminatused one of their worlds..

Seeing as the Saruthi had about 80 worlds and the Sane hold about six I would say so. Or is it the Chaos ones were left with six and the Sane had a hidden world not on the maps they are staging their attacks from.

I like this depiction of the Saruthi. A bit of canon Eldar in being inscrutable and not buddy-buddy with the Imperium, yet firmly anti-Chaos in the case of the Sane and don't have the habit of pre-emptive douchbaggery that everyone else would consider an act of war like the canon Eldar would. So it makes more sense why the Saruthi are allies of convenience at best with the Imperium (and why the two don't trust each other but aren't at each others' throats).

Some of it has been brought up in other contexts (Sturnn, LIVII, and Taldeer went into the Titan, Sturnn came out mortally wounded. Taldeer became Colonel-Farseer because of this. The more paranoid suggest this was an intentional ploy to gain command, but this contradicts the fact that Taldeer seemed to see Sturnn as a father figure and her relationship with LIVII hit a pothole after Kronus. The implication seems to be that LIVII was in a position where he could save either Sturnn or Taldeer, each telling him to save the other, and LIVII chose Taldeer (of course), who was resentful of it), others haven't. Parts of it need to be tweaked anyway based on newer fluff, like how Taldeer became a military brat in the first place, so there's room for more tweaking.
