Well, 'internet is for porn' aside, wouldn't one want to save up a whole bunch of pages in the ship's databases to have basic design parameters and schematics of other vessels at the ready for future encounters?

Yes, but you can't know, because it's classified research data.

Wouldn't the obvious response be to have NPCs do the same, at which point the logical player response would be to alter/customize their ship, which of course the NPCs would do as well... hence open public databases of ship schematics would be useless.

Silent alarms and command-activated mines in the space-triad safehouse.

God, please, no, not the command activated mimes. Anything but those.

For my character to upload to space youtube and and do his podcasts where he talks to subscribers between missions.

Not useless at all. Everyone customises somewhat, but knowing what the base stock model is capable of is a start, especially when you can also scan a target.

Just finished session zero/into to our group's first game of SF.

Was pretty fun but now rolling in creds (500) i'm a little lost on what to spend it on

Rations?

There is already a chef in the party for that

I was thinking more along the lines of something that makes a large explosion.

Is there any point to playing an Exocortex Mechanic instead of literally any other combat focused class?

Flavor? I intend to play an Exocortex Mechanic because it suits a character concept I have. Would probably function better as a Operative, but Mechanic fits the character concept better.

I am playing one, and have taken 1st level feat for heavy weapons so at the moment the soldier and I compete in combat but I am far more useful outside of it when it comes to most skills.

What class and general spec are you? I don't want to recommend a heavy weapon for an Envoy.

This is me here with the quick rundown:

How close can I get to Spess Ninja can I get in this?

Namely, what class and build will allow me to flip out like a Warframe space ninja?

Solarian with Graviton powers looks like it, but am I missing any particular touches to make it super fucking cool?

Is actually recommended an Autotarget Rifle. Different damage type, plus your party comp seems heavy on AoE so this offers some target discrimination

Good shout. Ta very much.

>but I am far more useful outside of it when it comes to most skills

The mechanic isn't even THAT good at skills.

At least they have them, though.

Just give the soldier high Intelligence.

Anyone got the gm screen?

You mean the physical product that you're supposed to stand up in front of you at a table. You want a pdf scan of such a thing. There is no image on this Earth for how stupid you are, so just take your (you)

The charts can be printed out from a PDF

Save up for personal upgrades.

Save for a jetpack or some other form of flight first, then personal upgrades.

But then you'll be spending entire levels waiting around for wealth.

Maybe a 3rd level weapon fusion seal?

I have a GM who's looking into running a space-opera type game balanced between Phantasy Star and 90s space anime (Bebop, Outlaw Star, etc.). He was looking into running it in Starfinder, but when I glanced over the PDF I wasn't sure I liked the feel.

Has anyone had good results running Starfinder in a less "Pathfinder in Space" set-up? I can see magic-like technology being an okay fit, but when I skimmed Starfinder I couldn't shake the feeling I was actually reading some kind of Spelljammer reboot. Alternatively are my fears unfounded? Does Starfinder's magic not really cause problems?

Aside: The fact Starfinder isn't part of the Pathfinder thread is strange and confusing to me as a newcomer.

>Does Starfinder's magic not really cause problems?
Don't have a Mystic spamming cure spells and you're probably good to go.

What's wrong with mystic cure spells?

Not really anything, but the 90s space animes don't really do healing nearly as well (it's fine for phantasy star though).

You don't end up needing artificial bits when you've got a mystic around.

Nothing. It obviates the usual "injuries suck" part of space opera genre though.

>The fact Starfinder isn't part of the Pathfinder thread is strange

It caused confusion when people ask about builds and rules clarifications since there's differences between the two.

PHANTASY STAR

>forgetting the scripted events where healing could not fix people
I answered the question asked, not the scenario given.

>Does Starfinder's magic not really cause problems?
Several factors make it much less problematic than PF magic. The limited spell list available in this book, both casters having a limited spells know ala sorcerer, current lack of metamagic shenanigans, spells having effects set to spell level rather than caster level most of the time, only getting a new level of spells ever 4th level capping at 6th level and that the spells are closer in power to the ones of the first 6 of 9 levels of spells for full caster rather than the lists of spells with altered spell level for partial caster of PF. I wouldn't say it doesn't cause any problems but it's much more manageable than PF.

>4th level capping at 6th level
4th character level capping at 6th level spells*

Path and Star actually work very differently.

Why aren't you playing as Dandy, anons?

Because Dynamancer hasn't been ported to Starfinder.

I just want to die

Magic is kind of shitty in this game desu. An user broke down the 6th level technomancer spells a bunch of threads ago and I agree that most of them are downright bad.

I'd say its fine unless you're the type of GM that finds issues with blasting which is the worst fighting style imo.

I have felt the temptation to make some sort of human envoy xenoseeker combing the galaxy for alien babes. But I'm not cuz no game.

Good man.

If you do play-by-post, I'm looking for applicants who want to play things other than mechanics.

If the party could only have one caster in the group, which would be more useful, a technomancer or a mystic?

What would be the ideal loadout for your typical mystic? I'm thinking about going Laser rifle with longarm prof for easier hits and a decent damage and a solid shot pistol for backup when I get into situations where I need an analog weapon.

Is there any useful information fluff or crunch in the first contact pdf? Or does the CRB cover everything I need to know?

It's not my favourite way to play but beggars can't be choosers. What have you got planned?

There's the page with setting blurb.

How easy is it to customize a ship in a way that significantly affects the relevant parameters, anyway?

Well the ships shown with statblocks are basically stock models with full point values. So if you own that ship, anything you change either requires swapping a system out entirely, or having more BPs.

It's certainly doable, but the majority of ships you encounter should most likely be fairly close to their base model. Maybe an extra spoiler here, a different gun there, but always "but this part's different" rather than "there are no two the same" for most models.

I think I've seen you talking about this one before. I guess I'm having a hard time imagining how a space dandy inspired character ends up on a suicide squad without him becoming a much darker or sleazier character. Also it sounds like this captain just mooches off his slave bounty hunting/merc team, that is a weird concept man what's going on there?

Why is PsyBomb running this, of all things?

What do you guys hope get pulled from Pathfinder? Specifically, player races/legacy races, maybe some interesting artifacts that were thought lost on Golarion but actually ended up flung into the galaxy?

+skill items

Genie-kin races for sprinkling on the appropriate shit-environment planets, but unfortunately a 3rd party shitter is already doing them so Paizo is probably going to ignore them like they did with psionics.
Undines for waterworld, Oreads for craglands, Ifrits for "too damn close to our sun" planets, and Sylphs for... I dunno, low-grav planets?

Honestly, because I just wanted a plot that could go anywhere the group wanted after the first bit and a good excuse to keep the party together. Running it mostly to ensure I get a solid handle on the final rules, so that writing projects go well.

should i change to a soldier or stay as a mechanic? looking at the armor rules, they kinda suck. if i went for a heavy weapon soldier it seems that armor negates alot of the bonuses to having a high dex. also idk if you have planned anything for my other character yet

does strength add damage to your melee attacks in this game?

Still at least a week before anything can start. Only rough sketches on my part so far... and if anything GMing has taught me, it's how to RAPIDLY rewrite things that don't go as planned.

Amen.

Yes, but you don't get 1.5 if it's a two-handed weapon. There is however a gear trick the Soldier can get that adds the extra .5 to melee attacks

Isn't that trick agnostic of handedness? You get the extra damage with a one-hander, same as 2H

Well spotted, I hadn't noticed that.

Of course, the 2h weapons are significantly better than the 1h weapons with few downsides, so it's a bit academic unless you're dipping Soldier 3 into Solarian or a few other specific builds.

there doesnt seem to be hand held shields in this game.
1hand weapons seem.... bad

It's so you can carry a gun and a melee weapon. Which makes sense in this kind of setting - you don't necessarily want to be firing kinetic and energy weapons willy-nilly on the inside of a spaceship, but you also don't want to be stuck without a ranged weapon handy.

>you don't necessarily want to be firing kinetic and energy weapons willy-nilly on the inside of a spaceship

Hardness rules mean there's nothing wrong with doing that.

Wow, even in the space version of the game your threads start with loli art.

Too lazy to google a bait image, here's your (you)

Just curious as to why PF specifically, with all the other generals out there, is the game that attracts the softcore pedophiles.

It's because we've got one, maybe two dudes who do it.

You seem to be under the delusion that it's some kind of universal preference among the regulars.

>Download SF
>Just more of the same exact game I've been seeing since 2001.... but in space.

I genuinely don't know what I was expecting. Like, I heard some rumors that they were actually going to innovate, so maybe I thought they were going to at-least use the OGLd20 skeleton as a framework to make some original meat like M&M3 or SWSaga, maybe even a game that wasn't published under a 17 year old gaming licence. I don't know why I was so optimistic. I fell for your hype Veeky Forums but I shouldn't have.

Were you trolling me, or did you genuinely believe that this was innovation?

>posts in both threads to maximize (you)s

So... you dont like it. Ok. Move on? I dont know... As a gamer, disappointment is your every day bread. You should be able to cope.

It was more the high expectations built up by grossly hyperbolic claims on Veeky Forums. Normally my expectations are appropriately low and skeptical.
Yeah, what of it? It's an imageboard, and I couldn't figure out which one was the "real" general.

But it's not the exact same game

That's quote-worthy, S-rank Satan

Paying to upgrade both is expensive and awful.

"paying"? Around these parts we just salvage the weapons of our fallen foes.

Will they be GOOD weapons, necessarily? You've got no guarantee of that.

Anyone used legacy class porting rules? Anything to report?

The bard makes a better envoy than the envoy.

The bard without spellcasting is a better envoy.
It's not high bar to reach.

Debate on anime, and be a general elitist.

Why the fuck are there 3 /sfg/ threads?

Autism. Pure autism. Just jump over to because it has an updated pastebin.

Is it worth it to play an envoy in a party with a mystic and technomancer?

Is the party only 3 people? Probably not.

Reading through the nightclub sequence in Incident at Absalom Station is completely puzzling. How is it that a sci-fi nightclub has worse security protocols than even real-world, seedy clubs? There are no mentions of security cameras anywhere, let alone anyone keeping track of security feeds or keeping in contact with the bouncers. Furthermore, as per page 16, if one of the bar staff considers the PCs to be a nuisance, they have to manually leave the bar, cross the main nightclub area, cross a storeroom, and only then talk to the boss in a back office; one would think they would just use telecommunications given that hassle.

Why is security so terrible? Did they just want to give 1st-level PCs a chance even under the most boneheaded, "kill the guards at the entrance, then move in and kill the guards inside" plan?

Paizo don't go to nightclubs. They're scary.

>Did they just want to give 1st-level PCs a chance even under the most boneheaded, "kill the guards at the entrance, then move in and kill the guards inside" plan?
Pretty much, remember that paizo makes APs assuming the players are idiots who can't make a reasonably optimized character to save their life and are only interested in being murderhobos.

Real life clubs aren't equipped to handle an assault from a half dozen magical commandos either so it's probably just set dressing to fight more level 1 goons.

>commandos
>level 1 schmucks

Real life commandos eat crayons so the title doesn't necessarily mean anything. Soldier and Operative are definitely level 1 commandos.

Remember that Paizo forums think 14 Strength for melee guys is optimal.

Mary Sue incoming, Solarion when you want to go the warframe aggressive spaceninja, yes. If you want an actual ninja i´d say operative on ghost spec with bounty hunter theme. If you go Android you even have that Tenno/Souldriven bio/mechanic organism flair.
