Hey Veeky Forums, should a mahou shoujo rpg have a "yuri" stat?

Hey Veeky Forums, should a mahou shoujo rpg have a "yuri" stat?

Should it? No.

Could it? Probably. It'd inform the tone of the game and directly place importance on the idea of relationships and intimacy, which some gamers aren't comfortable with, but that's not a reason to avoid it. Just something to keep in mind going forward.

No

Yes, absolutely

What would it govern?

>Defaulting Yuri to just a stat.
I bet you're the kind of guy to make RP begin and end with a diplomacy roll.

Social interactions between magical girls, obviously.

What's the point? It would always be at maximum

Depends how tongue in cheek you want to be with it. If everybody is on board with that sort of thing from the get-go it can be a good laugh, but if people just want cool magical girl fight scenes and chuuni beam attacks then they might not care.

I'd say no. Empathy, friendliness, or hell even lust could be a social stat. They can be abstracted as specifically or broadly as you need (like intelligence, strength, charisma, etc.) A sexual orientation stat will alienate players who feel uncomfortable with that like said, and turn away people who think it's an ERP in disguise.

If you're really into Yuri as a stat, rename it. Comradery. Affability. Intimacy. You could even put it on a scale like the WoD morality instead of a normal number for added allusion to sexuality.

Possibly. But it should definitely have a "yuyu" stat.

Neet

Was about to vote Nope (since you already (usually) got all the 'social' stats you need with Looks, Talks, Charisma & the like) but then I remembered the Relationships characteristic in the Powered by the Apocalypse games (Night Witches, for example).

It could be used to boost Willpower or reduce Corruption or cancel 'Soul' damage or shit like that.
Of course, losing the Relationship would then reduce Willpower, increase Corruption or add 'Soul' damage, but hey - you got your Yuri!

Yuyushiki pulled me through when I was at my lowest and absolutely miserable.

I dunno, should Veeky Forums have a "gay" stat?

See

Yuri is shit for pussy faggots who are so unsure of their masculinity they're afraid a fictional 2D man will cuck them with their 2D waifu.

Then go over to /hm/ you faggot

Not always. My gm is starting up a magical girl game and apparently magical boys are ok so long as they're cute, so I think my character is probably going to have a 0 there.

It's useful to wait for your buttache to subside before writing retorts, user, or you might write something dumb like you just did.

Personally I'd never trust Sailor Uranus around my girlfriend, god damn prince of a woman that she is.

Cry more in /hm/ faggot

Or lesbians. We have a lot of those on Veeky Forums.

Yuri isn't very much like real lesbian relationships.
That might be an advantage though.

....you have a point there.

Then there is Saki, whose yuri-stat is so high it affects how she plays majhong.

It is, definitely. Women be crazy. Cute, but fucking crazy.

Nah.
That kind of thing should be strictly roleplsy based.
I just like the idea of two lolis grinding together desu.

Humans overall are crazy

I mean theoretically you can rig the rules to select for the behavior you want. For instance:
>YURI measures the unresolved tension between your character and the other magical girls
>having more YURI is almost always a good thing -- especially when interacting with your fellow magical girls
>beware! if you ever "cross the line" into "doujin territory", your YURI score immediately drops down to 0

The ant community thanks you for that picture.

But after entering "doujin territory" with a girl, it will be easier for your character to increase the YURI score with her

That's not how these things go. After entering the doujin territory, girls either are retired as characters, or die. Unless it's straight up porn.

>Stat dedicated to measure sexual tension and if it gets too high your character is retired and presumably settles down with their lover.
That's almost stupid enough to make sense.

The person in that image is a male, isn't it.

Indeed.

did the context not make it obvious?

What would the benefits of a low/high yuri score be? It'd have to be some sort of gamble system for it to be an interesting game mechanic.

It'd be like call of Cthulhu insanity but instead of Mental illnesses people would gain unavoidable impusles to do gay yuri shit, and the more of it you have the gayer you become.

So Imagine a Mahou Shoujo RPG where the cost for using your powers is becoming more and more of a carpet munching hardcore dyke until you're one of those silent silver haired ice queen uber dyke "takes the mans" position anime girls.

Not necessarily. Playing a completely sexually oblivious character surrounded by super-lesbos would be pretty fun. Especially if she was the prettiest.

It could be a metacurrency like fate points. You get it for good roleplaying, and you spend it to help get your friends out of sticky situations. I'm against there being a threshold where you're actually compelled to fugg, that seems contrary to the authentic Japanese experience.

That's actually a pretty common story type at the moment; a lot of "I'm straight but gosh she's pretty!" manga are coming out. I think it's a backlash to the "I'm straight but i have to go out with girls right now because I have no choice" manga that were popular a few months ago.

Make it a two pole system, where starting Yuri is neutral and represents a platonic relationship. Lower than neutral Yuri gives greater stress reduction/co-operation bonuses or what have you, but in addition to the flaws associated with high Yuri, it also increases the damage you take and may even open you up to character death as opposed to just getting KO'd or something. Why? Because "negative" Yuri is a more explicitly romantic/sexual relationship, and if you can get away with that on-screen, then you must be in a more serious anime, or at least one aimed at older audiences. Either way, the creators no longer need to dodge or sugarcoat the idea of death.

Additional material

So before we start reading a 180 page thesis about yuri can you give a quick summary of what it's about?

Your GM is prancing lala homo man.
What's even the point of allowing "magical boys" if they will be completely unidentifiable from girls besides just having a dick? Might as well make the game about nothing but trap magical boys, faggot.

Do you prefer your Magical Girls dark and edgy and full of suffering or fun and lighthearted full of sunshine and rainbows? How about somewhere in-between?

Lyceene (french rpg about japanese highschool girls, has a mahou shoujo expansion) had a system of positive/negative perks that would fit very well, I think.

i'm the only guy in the game actually. it's great
>what's the point
the point is we're a bunch of perverts

>he doesn't want to read a 180 page thesis about yuri

Are girls who like traps gay or straight?

...

...

...

...

Straight.

Crossdressing=/=gay.

not him, but i'd like a look at the abstract to see if it's worth reading

...

...

Here user.

is a dude who likes ladies in pants gay or straight? It's the second one. Same thing applies here.

How many of you have been able to play mahou shoujo campaigns where the gays is allowed? Tell me so I can be jealous about how you people managed to find people willing to give it a go while I've looked around for god knows how long and have yet to find anything.

if you state the intent of the game beforehand, it usually runs perfectly. Add a session 0 to help relationships and roleplay, and some incencives for rp, and you shouldn't have any problem running one.
not living in puritain burgerland also helps, I guess.

it seems like it'll be allowed in the game I'm playing and the answer is I have no goddamn clue. I just found my way into a group of internet libertines by complete accident

...

How do you even get into a yuri mahou shoujo focused game by accident?

how did you get a screenshot of my computer

That is some phenomenal luck. or the goddess of Yuri interfering with your life.

a friend got me into a vampire game and then got kicked out. anyway, after a long time i realized that basically everyone other than me and one other person was erping on the side. Now we're going to do a magical girl game, yay

Did you start ERP'ing with the other person who was also not ERP'ing?

nah, they're ace

I like the despair side more desu. Doesn't make sense for schoolgirls to fight monsters and everything be all hunky-dory. Also makes the yuri more sensible.

How do you play a magical girl game where it isn't allowed? Magical girls without yuri just... isn't magical girls.

Of course the few games I've played in didn't have straight up fuckin' but there were still dates and teasing and sleepovers and other yuri stuff.

>homopathic remedy
>homopathic

It's the Freudian Slit ... uh ... Slip.

Even better.
>user you have been selected to become a magical girl (male)
>B-but I'm a boy
>That's why I specified (male)
>But I don't want to be a trap
>Just be happy you will be a conventional magical girl (male) and not an edgy subversion where your mother forced you to dress like a girl and sells you to grown men

This looks like a job for...

>I can't get aroused unless there's a cock for me to fixate on

>not the pdf

There you go.

Sexuality is a spectrum, not a binary.

Somewhere in between, leaning slightly towards the darker side without going the whole nine yards with it. Sleepless Domain does it pretty well.

Being a magical is, and always should be, suffering

>"yuri"
You can make a "players" stat chart and with that, the more time some player spend emotionally with other increases that player stat, making a character more likely to blush when the other calls she/he by the first name instead of feel displease.

Otherwise, you could make any posible yuri shit that makes your dic... i mean, feel happy!!!

Yuri is shit. SHIT!

Sorry, was in a rush.
Much thanks.

Proper Yuri is like 99% subtext anyway.
Anything more than brushing a cheek against the others cheek is to far.

Fuck off. ERP has been banned for a while now.

Not , but I'm reading through it now, and it seems like a very in-depth analysis on the genre. The author has done lots of research on "contemporary" yuri works and their publications at one point she talks about interviewing 10 yuri manga editors, and even goes as far as to detail the history of yuri and how it borrows from the class s genre. Good stuff for anyone who likes yuri desu.

This.
As a yuri fan myself this is better for everyone.

There is plenty of hetero Mahou Shoujo like CCS and Precure. /u/ needs to get back to its containment board.

Damn, this is some official purity right here.

What's going on in this thread?

>CCS
>Precure
>not yuri

Good things.
