So why are there no dwarfs in the 40k universe?

So why are there no dwarfs in the 40k universe?
Imagine an army of space marines-like dwarfs
that woulda be cool

As blatant as this bait is, I'm
>TRIGGERED

Soon

just how old is this photo?, 2nd edition maybe?

Rogue Trader, son.

Never.

Always in our heart.

Reminder

As long as I like squats, I don't want dwarf space marines. We already have space marine space marines, that's enough.

Has anyone here tried to field Warhammer Fantasy or AoS dorfs as minis for an IG regiment at a FLGS? Maybe describe them as a specialised abhuman army?

But there are Dwarves. They are allied with the Tau.

They were eaten by the nids.

We stilĺ don't have pics of the Demiurgs ?

AoS does have Steampunk Squats.

Because that would be fucking lame

>So why are there no skaven in the 40k universe?
>Imagine an army of nazi space rats.
>that woulda be cool.

That's incredibly nice ship

...

Dwarfs and rat people sound really cool in 40k. It's fucking gay how they are trying to separate 40k and war hammers lore nowadays.

Because dwarfs are boring and one dimensional as a race.

It would be cool, yes.

"Nowadays" doesn't cover it - they've been trying to separate the two since the early- or mid-'90s.

In the '80s, 40k had Space Elves with the usual "fallen race" story, Squats (space dwarves) who were into mining and motorcycles, Space Slann (to be fair, it sounds like the WHFB Slann were from space), and there might've been more Fantasy analogues but they realized people didn't want that. There were also Zoats but I don't think they came from Fantasy.

They never got very far with the Slann, but there were too many Squat fans when 2nd edition came out so GW released a get-you-by list. Meanwhile no one within the company really wanted to take them on because they were so silly and it was hard to come up with a gameplay theme for theme. Jervis Johnson said all this in an interview several years ago. So they never got updated. Later, they explored the possibility of a more serious Space Dwarf race, with a serious name (Demiurg) and serious ships as seen in a previous post here. They almost got released as a race within the Tau Empire, but others won out. (The Kroot had appeared in 40k art previously, but I don't see why anyone would make the Vespid before Demiurg.)

Meanwhile, the Space Elves got a new name, Eldar, and got a history of their own that kept the overall Elf theme but with details unique enough to make everyone happy. But they probably only added the Dark Eldar because Dark Elves were a thing.

What about the skaven though?

Somewhere I have an image of the administratum, inquisition and admech all blaming each other for the error that the squats were extinct.

honestly squat marines would've fit right into their lore
>primarch was too huge and proud
>warp fuckery and Horus Heresy
>entire chapter is now cursed to be squat

Don't need any "heavy grav world" shit, just "chapter curse, got little legs and a need for mead instead of being blood thirsty"

The Imperium are already the Skaven though.

Same thing, emperor instead of horned rat, but you got everything from the entire human race being made up of lots of mutants, to stormrats (space marines), to the specialised clans (adeptus mechanicus, inquisition, imperial guard, PDFs etc...)

I think they were the concept for the Hrud, who used to appear in the art as small figures in tattered cloaks. Recent fluff has changed them to something more original.

are they allied? Or are they an actual part of the empire?

Dawww, the glowy bits under the cannon look like a dorf!
