The 10 Kobold Empires of the world, each bearing a force of conscripted level 1 kobolds near a billion strong, bands together to assault the tiny city state of max level adventurers, 1000 heroes led by a single max level Exalted.

How does it go down?

They get solo'd by one guy with higher ac than they can hit

>20s automatically hit
Uhmmm, sweeetie...

The majority of the adventurers form a defense in the city. The best wizards/assassin's take off from the city and scatter to the Empire capitals where they proceed to infiltrate and assassinate the emperors. They then work their way back to the city state going after officer-type kobold until eventually the news spreads and the armies splinter and flee.

adventurers have this easy

some guy is going to end up with a damage reduction so big they cant hurt him- and then solo them

either that or a wizard casts a spreading AoE spell or something

besides, theres only so many kobolds that can attack at once

Doesn't matter, probably only about 20 kobalds can attack a single opponent at a time and a kobald crit does fuck all, if any, damage to a max level character

Kobolds gets exp from all this bloodbath. Kobolds gets warlock kobolds. They design their attack to be gruesome blood ritual. Soon they masssummon high tier demons.

Max level diplomancer convinces the kobolds to surrender. Done.

>a couple of Bards throw the biggest kobold rave the world has ever seen

>Max Level Exalted

Solos it. Doesn't even need to fight. Solar diplomats can just talk them into surrender.

This. Then they can have a cleric sniping them with healing.

Only players get xp.

Then i play as kobolds

A billion kobolds? They starve to death.

Someone whips up a plague and kills all the kobolds.

Can't a wizard just cast wish and genocide the entire Kobold species?

the exalted solos the kobolds while the rest of the adventurers descend into civil war almost immediately

Now you see where things start getting real complicated, right?

Like, you've played RPGs that aren't vidya, right?

Not sure if wish is that powerful but they can certainly cast Cloudkill and many other AoE spells.

it takes a single fighter 5700ish hours if he can kill 8 (max surrounded in a grid) every combat round, lasting no longer than 15 seconds. so i hope there is room to stop and sleep, because nobodys magic will support him that long, and if he passes out from exhaustion after (strmod+conmod)/2 * 24 hours, then he gets que'de'gras and is dead.but with a thousand epic fighters, it takes 5.7 hours, so really: a liesurley afternoon.

The Kobold species becomes extinct.

1.) there's 1000 heroes, half of them can easily be fighter types

2.) 8 is lowballing it, unless you are playing 5e

>que'de'gras

There are level 6 builds that will solo the army with a single spell.

Avoiding hyperbolic meme builds, there are fighters who can kill every kobold within miles without rolling in a single round. Even poorly optimized, the players will win.

The city, however, may be crushed beneath kobold corpses by the end, rendering the victory meaningless. Then some epic level necromancer merges the corpses into a single ball of angry anti life and the real encounter starts

>unless you use 5e
any game on a square grid, as far back a 3e will have a max of 8.

1 2 3 the f is the fighter
4 F 5
6 7 8

>1k pcs, some of which can also be fighters
thats why i pointed to the 5.7 hours figure.

>not cue d grass
its like user doesnt even typo

What if he's a half ogre War Hulk with a spiked chain?

The kobolds may as well be fish their power level is so low compared to the adventurers. 10M kobolds a piece is a lot, but if we are talking D&D exhaustion rules don't even exist so the adventurers can just blender the kobolds forever.

Even if we make it more real there are going to be wizards and Clerk s that can just stop time periodically to let the adventurers rest up.

OP said a billion kobolds per empire. So 10 billion kobolds altogether.

10.000.000.000 / 8 = 1.250.000.000 rounds
1.250.000.000 * 15 / 60 /60 = 5.208.333, 33 fighter hours.

That's 5 million man hours spent killing kobolds.

In a similar vein...

Anyone actually played this boxed set? It's a 10-15th level adventure where the majority of the enemies are plain kobolds and their traps. Apparently it is a total meat grinder.

You can Supreme Cleave them all down in 6 seconds.

You don't need to kill them all, you just have to kill enough that the rest dont want any part of the fight anymore.
>Kobolds are usually not that brave

Do the adventurers have max'd out gear as well?

There are options in some D&D editions to allow you to move while attacking, allowing you to hit way more than 8 targets. Also reach.

They would succumb to starvation or dysentery before they can even launch the assault.
