How would you rate Gut's backstory for a roleplaying character? How would you rate it uf you knew nothing about Berserk?

Pre-eclipse? Meh, kinda edgy, but not awful. If keep an eye on the player, but allow it, unless the game is meant to be light-hearted
If we include the eclipse? 10/10, really great backstory. Comes with ano amazing hook, a strong motivation for the character to go out and adventure, and assuming Griffith/Godhand is the primary antagonist, then it ties amazingly well into the campaign, with a solid personal connection to the threat, and great opportunities for roleplay.

Obviously the player present Guts as his character + the whole backstory.

Hey when you throw in the eclipse as focal point of the setting, ad griffit as the target, you will need some character who is more or less balls-to-the-walls.

And he has a trucload of flaws and character development as anti-hero, which is the kryptonite of snowflakes.

To be fair, "born out of a corpse, adopted by an insane camp follower (who died), raised by an abusive criminal who literally sold him to his bro as rapemeat, has no friends, was attacked for killing a dude everyone in his company who has known him for his entire adolescent life knows treats him like shit constantly, survived a wolf attack shortly after, and spent the rest of his life as a wandering solo mercenary" is pretty edgy.

Honestly? It depends on the type of game your running.

Perhaps, when the only thing you can do is just attempt to survive I'm sure you'll eventually just learn to make the most of it or try to. I think at the point where Gambino sold guts to the dude who raped him he was injured and was drinking all the time?

Not really. One thing doesn't exclude the other.

Too miserable. If a player came up to me with it, I'd ask them to tone it down, but I'd allow some of it, as long as I know them to be a good roleplayer.
How else am I supposed to break their character in game proper, if they've already lived through it all?
