What should I read next? Wulfric book, archeons book, or elves? Just finished all the skaven ones.
Nolan Gonzalez
Can someone tell me about Oreon? They are smack dab in the middle of the Southlands and are wood elves.
Jackson Miller
Can someone help me understand why Great Weapons are a good choice for hero or lord characters?
It just seems that if you are making the choice to forgo a shield or magical weapon, the natural choice would be to use an additional hand weapon. That way you get an additional attack, as well as taking advantage of the characters (typically) higher-than-average initiative.
With a great weapon, all you are doing is adding to their strength. So while yes, you have a greater chance to wound, you also have a greater chance to wound with +1A. So it essentially evens out, but with the penalty of striking last.
Am I missing something?
Julian Thomas
There's also the penalty to armor, plus it allows you to either blow through enemy lords and monsters easier.
Camden Gutierrez
> INB4 Gotrek and Felix.
I liked the Elves books even if Gav Thorpe wrote some.
Xavier Clark
Totally depends, most people would not automatically say GW are better. It depends on your faction, I play Empire so heroes are cheap and lack strength (plus they usually go last anyway) so I go for a GW and a pistol usually.
If you're playing WoC AHW may be the way to go though some people go for halberds.
Gavin Walker
I don't know, generally if it's a challenge lord, your fighting another lord with fuck tons of armor so the sunder effect from the extra strength might be better. Can't tell you how many times extra attacks just wiff because armor is too damn high.
For making a meat grinder against enemy R&F, yea id say the extra attacks would be better.
Noah Gomez
I vaguely remember them being related to the backstory of a very old mercenary character.
Joseph Long
wait, do we have faction specific diplomatic banter for particular options?
Ryan Reed
OP You need to update the copy pasta first post. Tomb Kings and Bretonnia are out of the indiegogo phase. Please link them to the proper TableTop Minis Solution website.
Hudson Smith
Oh no, the vampires got to Geralt!
Michael Ramirez
The rationale tends to be that you can have a unit champ tank a challenge, and you can protect your hero with would allocation shenanigans while said hero gets to choppin'. That, and does your unit really need "a few more" s3/s4 hits?
Thomas Ward
Maybe a silly question, but can I buy a box of Age of Shitmar Skaven, and (if I get square bases) use them for an 8th-9th edition army ? Do the models in AOS for Skaven match the units where 8th left off?
Samuel Lopez
So, I've got a question: I read everywhere, that Daemons of Chaos 7th was reaaaallly overpowered and shifted the whole power level of the meta. But how? I stopped being involved with WHFB around 6th and only got back around the clusterfuck that was End Times. Could someone explain to me how the meta shifted with the 7th Chaos Daemons book and why the whole game went down the drain in just two editions after I lost interest?
Charles Barnes
HAVE SOME GRENADES RAT FUCKING SHITS.
Ryder Rodriguez
Each author of an army book feels like it's his baby, and they want the best for it. This leads to a lot of imbalance over time when there are not mediating checks to make sure things don't creep into gameplay. Couple this with lower sales from some armies over others, and you have authors being pressured into making rules that may 'extend' the popularity and thus renown of that army. This causes a leapfrog affect and by the time 8th hit it was wildly imbalanced at times, and lead to many rules that were just table flippers. Plus, by 8th... GW had pretty much closed the door on Fantasy, because they knew this pic related pile of steaming turd was coming that would "fix" this problem
Leo Peterson
Source?
Xavier Carter
Yep. Spire of Dawn also comes with Square bases.
Jaxson Reed
7e Daemons weren't a codex creep so much as a codex sprint. The biggest change was changing how Daemon Saves worked, so they were flat Ward Saves, rather than Ward Saves that could be ignored by Spells/Magic weapons.
Daemon Gifts were selectable abilities, and not random rolls. One of the notable ones, gave a Herald of Tzeentch Loremaster in any of the 8 BRB lores. While 7e BRB spells were for the most part weaker, this was still a notably dangerous ability.
Furthermore, since charges were simply "2x move" rather than "move+2d6", and Steadfast and Hordes did not exist, infantry was a lot weaker. However, cavalry was relatively more reliable (2x7 > 2x4), and fliers even moreso (charge=20). In an edition where Heroes and Lords were fixed slots rather than army percentages, Heralds were even more infamous, because while other armies had to choose between "flyer/chariot mounts" or spellcasting, Heralds of Tzeentch could take a Flying Burning Chariot with a 4+ Ward...and they were Loremasters, and could also pay to shoot like a Flamer of Tzeentch...and they were heroes.
tl;dr, playing Daemons could be like showing to a swordfight or a musket duel with a wing of AH-1 Cobras.
Connor Rogers
Mostly due to their magic prowess and magic resistances.
Made them very potent to field and engage with heavy types of troops that inflicted magic attacks and were warded from magic attacks.
Plus they caused and were immune to a lot of psychological morale rules.
Shit got hammy fast.
Wyatt Williams
More that as GW became more obsessed with short-term profits and less about an actual community, a lot of their "old guard" increasingly got the boot. It started with Andy C and Pete Haines going, but those guys were 40kers primarily so that's a wash. For Fantasy, Gav left after 7e Dark Elves, presumably because management wanted to blame *somebody* for that armybook being leaked. Alessio quit shortly thereafter, and Rick Priestly soon followed. By the time folks got to writing 8th, it's easy to argue nobody truly cared too much for Fantasy either way, or was a competent ruleswriter. So now you had Jeremy Vetock, a fan known for rule slipups (look at the 7e Skaven FAQ), Phil Kelly who was known best for the terminally flawed 6th Ogre Kingdoms book, and the Cruddace. Is it any small wonder that Matt Ward got the main credits for 8th?
Levi Nguyen
Thank you, kind anons.

As a WoC-player I'd definitely go halberds before GW. You still gain alot of dmg while keeping your I.

Malus Darkblade omnibus
G&F
Ulrika Undead.
Don't bother with the Archaon stuff, it's hideously bad. Like Sonic fanfiction about Shadow bad.
Liam Murphy
No prob mate. Still though, if you start playing Fantasy again, (you should), you can obviously create house rules with friends to sort of keep the Daemon from tipping the balance too much etc.. Considering it's just a game I don't get why some get so up in arms about the rules, and updates and what not... if you have a group of real friends to play with, the laughs and good times you'll have at the table, go far far beyond the actual game
Connor Miller
I'm a homebrew/systems git, and so I spend a lot of time pondering a better WHFB system, proper unit balance, etc.
One thing that always bugged me about Savage Orcs, especially in 8th, is they're basically "Regular Orcs, but better." Overlapping roles and that shit. Only differences between the two are the Orcs get Armor/shields and are slightly cheaper, but the Savage Orcs get Frenzy (more attacks), Warpaint (a Ward Save that always works), and access to Extra Hand Weapons. Stick a Shrunken Head Shaman in their unit, and they have a constant 5+ Ward now.
So, random thoughts were: -Savage Orcs are Skirmishers. (Orcs get no Skirmish core otherwise, and the idea of nekkid cave Orcs forming ranks feels weird). -Replace the option for Shortbows with Javelins. (Fire on the march, and quick-to-fire. S4 if upgraded to Big-Uns). -Big Stabbas work as long as the unit has at least 5 models. If 10 or more models, does D6 hits instead.
The end result, being while regular Orcs do the "rank and file" bit, Savage Orcs act more like a "Dryad" and are akin to a fast, "melee support" skirmisher of a sorts.
Maybe make Fist of Gork a "+1 strength to all Orc units within 6 inches" augment (that can be boosted for a wider augment), which then becomes +2 Strength if Power of the Waaagh applies.
Brayden Smith
Ohhhh THERE is a good idea!
Cameron Jones
I just lost interest in the game during the end of 6th, because of some RL matters and couldn't get back into it until the Malekith(?) End Times book, I think. It certainly wouldn't stop me from playing WHFB just because of one over the top army book and the Daemons of Chaos stuff never bothered me anyway, since no one played Chaos Daemons, that I knew of.
As you said, house rules go a long way for getting the game to the desired state and having fun with your friends during a triumph and treachery game is one of the best things Fantasy has to offer.

Tyrion has a squire in Total War Warhammer. And she's hawt.
Kayden Butler

Asher Reed
Does Slaanesh get to rape her?
Aiden Morgan
>tyrion gets to fuck the everqueen >even caring about any other woman She probably gets to watch as tyrion puts it in Alarielle's pooper
Ayden Collins
Imagine being a cute elf girl who knows that if Tyrion wasn't so obsessed she could have him, but instead she has to be constantly frustrated with the most handsome elf in Ulthuan constantly pining for a forbidden romance.
Meanwhile all her friends are gushing about Tyrion and asking her how chiseled he is and if he ever jumps her or anything like that, and she's just sitting there frustrated because she hasn't been laid in nearly two centuries, because even if she isn't crushing on Tyrion anymore other guys just cannot compare.
Bentley Sanders
what happened to the 40k novels link? I cant find it in the 40k thread.
Christopher Hall
It's times like this I'm glad I made another link for the novels.
On a related note I found a copy of the 5th edition Warhammr Siege book, which I will scan when I get a chance.
Aaron Phillips
would you show me user the link please?

Sorry I meant the Fantasy novels.
This is the Warhammer Fantasy thread.

If you play teclis she Gives quests as Tyrion sent her to "keep an eye on Teclis"

Will Spire of Dawn be available again sometime or is it completely out of production?
After much looking around I get the impression it won't (be produced ever again).
Which is pretty retarded as HE Seaguard/Hoeth/Reavers are pretty fundamental units... and NOT FUCKING AVAILABE anywhere else.
So much for getting back after discovering 9th age...
Brody Gray
And yet GW still has on their website right now the old Swordmaster models from years and years ago. They released a kit for every other kind of Elf unit but not Swordmasters, Sea Guard or Ellyrion Reavers.
I know it's because they want you to buy more fucking Island of Bloods/whatever the AoS one is but still. That's a pain in the ass.
Owen White
>I know it's because they want you to buy more fucking Island of Bloods/whatever the AoS one is
I guess that was the initial plan but since the two boxes were insane value (for gw) they are long sold out everywere. One sealed one for >200$ on ebay and even the sprues are super hard to get.
I'm wondering if gw's aim is in fact to spite it's (would be) customers as much as possible instead of just squeezing them out.
Jesus, this guy is as stupid as Malekith if he thinks that's subtle or at all effective.

It's quite nasty, especially if you combine it with Helm of Many Eyes.

I'd go for a beer with that King Louis. He looks like a genuinely nice bloke.
Brody Garcia
If he's trying to spy on his brother casually, using his squire gives it away. If he's trying to intimidate him, using his squire is no threat. This is a wizard who could flay her to the bones with lightning before his morning wood flagged just after waking up. If she's there to defend him, she's worthless for the same reason.
Nicholas King
This makes me happy
Joshua Butler
He and Karl-Franz are actually on good personal terms. It's largely thanks to them that Bretonnia and the Empire have experienced some genuine warmth.
Samuel Lopez
>Don't bother with the Archaon stuff, it's hideously bad. Like Sonic fanfiction about Shadow bad. I desire to know more.
Eli Thompson
He doesn't want to spy on or threaten his brother . But just have someone he can completely trust be with his brother. And maybe he's trying to get him laid while sending the girl who wants to get between him and Alerielle far away.
Jordan Nguyen
>teclis has problems getting laid He just buys escorts
Ryan Davis
Teclis is well known for being the whore mongering Ben Franklin of the setting.
Tyrion is to beta content to impaling Alarielle.
Colton Butler
Apparently he's quite fond of ELFing humans.
Josiah Price
Tyrion is basically Immortal Ultra Chad who loves his younger brother. He's just not really capable of being subtle. He's also sort of proof that while elves certainly can become more accomplished at stuff due to living longer and having a longer-lasting civilization they aren't actually any smarter and don't necessarily have better judgment since Tyrion is kind of a dingus.
Adrian Perez
more like human women are the only ones who find him attractive.
Christopher Scott
, Tyrion is a moron who thinks using his sword (metaphorically and literally), but he loves and cares for his brother and worries about him since he grew up sickly and ill. The irony is it's Tyrion who'd be more likely to get into trouble due to his complete lack of good judgement. , He gets around a bit more then Tyrion (since SOMEBODY has to go around using actual brains to maintain their civilization), so he's used to humans. Sadly, he also probably does it because humans remain impressed by how good he looks even if by elf standards he's rather sickly and frail-looking.
It's kinda funny that TWII made him look like Cumberbatch.
Easton Turner
>He's also sort of proof that while elves certainly can become more accomplished at stuff due to living longer and having a longer-lasting civilization they aren't actually any smarter and don't necessarily have better judgment since Tyrion is kind of a dingus I would be careful about these things, sometimes it's just bad writing.
Luis King
>cumberbatch looks fey and has a huge female fanbase >is dr strange >CA base their magic elf on him. No, While he plays up the dumb jock stereotype, Teclis thinks that tyrion uses his noggin only for fighting.
Angel Anderson
>It's kinda funny that TWII made him look like Cumberbatch.
It's good choice, someone who's regarded as attractive despite actually being bizarre and malformed.
Wyatt Sanchez
>hes used to humans >he gets laid because humans aren't aware he's the runt.
Back to my Ben Franklin analogy. Ben Franklin fucked French whores not because he couldn't get it with American whores but because Ben Franklin was in France while fucking French whores.
Teclis abides by true chadum: "if You cant be with the one you love, love the one you're with"
Who figured elf embassy duty had perks?

Eldyra of Tyranoc? I bet she will never be in game.
James Ward
This is a different squire and she is on the level of felicion heartseeker. A minor character in the campaign that you don't see.
Kayden Young
That's strange CA didn't use character from 8e armybook.
Alexander Diaz
The game might be taking place at a different time for all we know. There is no evidence that the story is taking place along with warhammer 1's story. Also I seem to have noticed that CA tends to actively shit on ET lore whenever they can. Specifically the guy rebelling against Karl at game start is the guy who was his reiksguard captain when the world ended.
Nathaniel Richardson
What is your favorite aspect of the factions you like, /wfg/?
Noah Thompson

Alexander Rodriguez
>CA tends to actively shit on ET lore whenever they can Why Lady of Lake is Lileath/Ladrielle in game then?
Robert Kelly
because it was alluded to for a long term in the setting and had strong circumstantial evidence surrounding it? Or are you one of those Complete coincidence sort of guys who believes that its totally alright that all the magical kids in bretonnia get taken to Athel Loren and become wood elven servants and part of their society?
Sebastian Lewis

Warriors of Chaos: >The allure of power. >People enslaved by their emotions. >Mysterious hordes from the savage steppes. >Interesting mystery cult-like religions. >Mutations are percieved as blessings. >Fickle and cruel gods who are more interested in fighting amongst themselves than actually acomplishing anything practical. >Allows for great fall-stories. >Dark sorcery. >Endless scheming and cultist activities. >No one is safe from chaotic corruption. >People might actually ascend into demi-god status. >People might actually descend into a non-sapient mass of cronenberg-flesh.
That was always one of the most uncomfortable parts of Bretonnia's lore, honestly, because it made them seem subservant to the Wood Elves...but weirdly enough, the Lady got set up as being a separate entity in her own weird way.
Zachary Ross
anyone nab that humble bundle? I'm pretty new but didn't realize there was so much content for wfrp until I saw all those books

I sadly lacked the money this month and didn't feel like under 20 would be fair... Which is kinda bullshit since I already pirated. Is the sale over?

Tell me about wights, I think they're pretty cool. What level of consciousness do they operate on? Regular zombies and skeletons seem to be almost mindless or at best have vague recollections of their former lives, but wights seem to retain a good chunk of their skills and reasoning ability, if not their memories. How common is it for them to strike out semi-independently rather than being thralled to a necromancer/vampire/liche priest, and how do their "masters" regard them? Kemmler seems to regard Krell as little more than an upjumped skeleton bodyguard despite him clearly being far more self aware than he lets on.
James Mitchell
Wights can actually be completely independent, almost as good as mummies in terms of preserving the consciousness and skills of life. Many are ancient chieftains who were preserved with magics in their tombs to keep their spirit from wandering, and at least hopefully prevent their tomb from being defiled by evil magic, though obviously many do. You can find them throughout the Old World, which is awesome - from Bretonnia to Kislev to Slyvania, and probably in the Southern Realms too.
Once a vampire or necromancer has them in their thrall though, there's rarely any independence for them - they're kept as a particularly skilled bodyguard or core of troops. And most VC-style undead lords treat them as just useful tools, not people. Occasionally companions, but not likely.
Thomas Gray
Check the end of that first page, and then the beginning of this one. I could post the whole thing if you wanted, though it'd be a little out of order now.
Caleb Cooper
Thanks user, that was very informative. Unfortunately most of my lore knowledge on undead is limited to the TK/VC army books and 2e WHFRP expansions, it's actually kind of a shame they didn't go more into the deeper aspects of necromancy. Feel free to dump the rest of the book if you want to, I've not actually seen much of it.
