The world is a massive forest/swamp with most trees and lagoons having some representative dryad or nymph, though they all have to possess and manipulate the body of one of its denizens to speak to the other races. These creatures are the source of magic, with magic basically being an invocation of thier name, and its up to the spirit to actually cast a spell. What the picture displays is a magespeaking with a local tree spirit about thier agreements and contract.
