What kind of madman sees a black hole and says,
"I could use this for combat"

The same one who wants to weaponize anything and everything.

Me. -The party wizard

I'm sure it varies throughout the editions a bit, but everything I remember that allows you to have more control over a sphere of annihilation has a way of potentially backfiring horribly. If you could get one inside a portable hole without destroying the hole somehow I guess you could make a really badass pit trap that you can whip out whenever

I love the sphere of annihilation but I'm not sure it loves me back

That sounds like Oglaf alt-text.

Did you know you can play one?

Can you use a sphere of annihilation as a phylactery though?

You know
I think this BLACK HOLE would be a great place to store my soul.
This won't end badly

ask this famous rapper

Cream is like the best stand.

Made in heaven and such are situational, but I could move mountains with cream.

You need an amulet and some crazy stats but yeah, it could at least be used to herd people around as they avoid it. Pretty sure it only moves at 30 feet.

But then iirc 3.5 had a spell to create one, possibly more, for a few rounds. Was near the end before 4e and PF happened.

There was a prestige class built around making mini spheres

Do you know what class that is?

Yeah if you could see anything.

That's the one downside.

But i feel like it's worth it. You die to slow acting gases with made in heaven.

D&D 3.5, Entropomancer. Found in Complete Divine. Be prepared, it's underwhelming.

What about The Hand? Isn't it like the same thing but better?

You can't just hide with the hand.

What the fuck?

3.5 had a spell called sphere of ultimate destruction. wasn't an actual sphere of annihilation, it only did 2d6 damage per level rather than instant death.

3.0 had the force domain for cleric. It's 9th level spell summoned an ACTUAL sphere of annihilation.
This version of the domain was in DRAGON magazine 294, and return to the temple of elemental evil.

The force domain is in 3.5, but it has different spells.

The 3.0 spell was named "Annihilation".

Spambots got past the captcha.

Wouldn't a sphere or anhilation be a great siege weapon?

Only for Entropomancers, a kind of nihilistic mage that seeks to become one with THE VOID.

First day on Veeky Forums?

Ask an oldfag about the original /hc/board before moot nuked it.

>Wouldn't a sphere or anhilation be a great siege weapon?
Until you attack a fort inhabited by someone smarter than you.

Well if you have a talisman of the sphere shouldn't be much of an issue.

Who keeps a talisman of the sphere lying around.

hey oldfag, care to explain?
tfw been here since 2009 and still new

...

>Sees a black hole

You have a shitty DM if he gives you a Sphere of Annihilation and a Talisman of the Sphere and no incentive to do more than bully some 0-level guards.

this can only end up with one logical conclusion

Sphere-chucks, the ultimate weapon of the equally skilled and mad

A long time ago Veeky Forums didn't have captchas and the cooldown time was much lower on most boards. We had a board for hardcore hetero porn called /hc/, and life was good. Then Kimmo and the Spambots started their Sitewide An*ntalk Tour and began flooding every board with copypasta rants about how Veeky Forums was lame and everyone should come hang out on his CP-themed imageboard instead. Shortly after, a guy paid a coder to write a program that could exploit the way Veeky Forums accepted posts so it would post once per minute with a pregenerated statement from a list of 30-odd statements ("shes hot", "wow this really works", "thank you for posting this link", etc.) along with an image that was just a text link to a banned virus website (I know this part is true because I found his initial solicitation post on a coding-for-hire website and their reply chain wasn't private).

Whether it was because /hc/ didn't have any dedicated mods, or because the nature of the board meant that it moved slowly enough for the spammers to be ultra-effective, the end result was that more than 50% of the threads on /hc/ were created by this Veeky Forums-specific spambot. There was a campaign among the users of /hc/ to fight back by using the Xchan Directory Dumper (this was obviously back in the days when Xchan worked because there were no captchas for it to fill out) by targeting the spambot threads and dumping a series of images that just said "VIRUS" and "SPAM THREAD". It was effective enough that the spammer started personally posting in the threads to claim that the links were legit and the anti-spam crowd was just trolling him.

As time went on, other spammers picked up a copy of the bot. Occasionally it would malfunction and dump all the pregen replies in one long list, or some blurb of code from a posting error.

Captchas were implemented, but eventually moot had enough and just deleted /hc/ outright because by then the spammers were paying Afghanis to manually fill out the captchas.

That's amazing, I know I've read a little about that chapter in Veeky Forums's history but not that bit. Pretty much everything to do with anontalk was a clusterfuck, wasn't it?

The anontalk spam wasn't just /hc/, I distinctly remember it on /b/ as well.

>Pretty much everything to do with anontalk was a clusterfuck, wasn't it?
They were spambots that ruined every board they were active on while advertising a cp website and linking to virus websites. Take a guess

Kimmo's spambot just tried to entice people to come to anontalk. The /hc/-specific spambot posted mainly on the porn boards because the OP images were always naked girls with the banned website text pasted directly into the image.

There was also a 3.5 PrC to actually get better at controlling a sphere.

Entropomancer. Look it up. 3.5 literally let PC's become Vanilla ice. The fuck up part? In 3.5, there is a quest that requires you to pay a trip to the Tomb of horrors to get Accerak's Sphere of Annihilation Turns out that unlike other spheres, this one is actually a fucking static black hole, and will consume the entire material plane if broken

The Force Domain literally lets you create temporary Spheres of Annhilation to manipulate, said Domain being Tharizdun's and yet another reason why he was broken as fuck next to his deific salient ability to datamine anyone who is mad, Tzeentch style.
