Player shows up and says he wants to play Circle of the Shepard druid. What do?

Eh, all right.

What are some particularly good spells for someone who wants to hunt and kill dragons?

Any thoughts on this revision of Ranger?

Anyone used the hero points system for their games?

Earthbind is particularily BAD spell, since it relies on Strength saving through that the dragon is going to have through the roof.

Also, it was a serious question about Shepard druid. My player wants it, but it seems to be all kinds of OP

Is there a zip or something that has all the Monster Manual art? I have Volo's but the trove doesn't have a MM one.

I tried to start reading but the feature overview table already put me off. Just, why? The UA ranger is good enough.

I found it on Homebrewery and one of my players wanted to try it, so I figured I'd get a second opinion before I made a decision.

I'm not a fan personally. It removes Ranger's martial combat niche (Whirlwind/Volley Strike) and replaces it with Battlemaster maneuvers.

Playing Gloaming and setting up huge surprise rounds for your whole party does sound like it could be fun though.

>No title
>Not easily searchable

Shephard Druid doesn't seem that OP. Let him play it and if it busts the game just nerf it a little.

From a quick overview, it looks like a sneaky attempt to overbuff rangers. It looks similar to the UA ranger but puts even more stuff in. I'll take a more close look since I'm currently looking into UA rangers anyway.

I mostly was interested since I liked how they made Hunter's Mark a feature and gave it expanded usage, and how they removed the damage bonus from Favored Enemy and spread it out over the other levels, so it wasn't as ridiculous a one-level dip.

Are there any resources for rolling plants and herbs found in the wild? My ranger constantly searches for them and I'm running out of ideas

republicofnewhome.org/lair/games/herb5/herb5illo1.html#contents

Tell him he better know what he wants to do with his summons before his turn comes up. There is nothing worse than a druid summoning 8 wolves and then spending 2 minutes deciding where to place them, who to attack and then rolling all the dice one at a time

...

DMs , would you allow your druid to wildshape into plants?

Probably not. I'd be suspicious of another set of creatures with potentially gamebreaking abilities being added to the Druid's list of ways to say "you have to let me do this or you're a bad GM".

But that might just be my 3e talking. How many of those are there in 5e? I'm sure there are a few. That one stealth cat comes to mind.

Animated plant creatures, or just stationary plants?

How good is Unearthly Chorus mechanically? A control spell that you can keep casting as a bonus action each round seems pretty decent.

A 10+ moon druid? absolutely, in any other case, they'd have to convince me first

Either or

Tricky question. A high level druid would be able to wildshape into Shambling Mounds and Wood Woads, who have regeneration

Has anyone tried a game where you have a core group of 3 or so players and rotate in others as 'supporting characters' for certain questlines or sessions? How did that work out for you?

>All the blatant rips from Oblivion

If I made the tabaxi have subtle feline features, would that be bad?

Alright lads, each of you can choose ONE (1) of these legendary high level endgame rewards:
(1/3)

>The Lance of Longitude
A really pointy spear that can pierce through anything (including concepts such as space-time).

e.g. the user can launch an unavoidable thrust attack which ignores all defenses to where a target was in the past rather than where it currently is. The attack can undo recent events caused by its victim.

Major Drawbacks:
- Session might end early due to the possibility of history being rewritten by this spear.
- There is only one in the multiverse, and its ability to pierce through concepts can only be used once since it is likely that the spear will poke its way into another dimension after doing its job and get lost forever or until someone else stumbles upon it.
- If you prefer throwing over stabbing, then the spear can only travel from east to west (on a multiversal scale) or vice versa.

>Phylactery of Yonder
A shield which grants its user a nigh-absolute defense by creating pockets of infinite distance/space between the user and and any threats.

>DestiN TRimmer
A pair of ciseaux capable of cutting the conceptual and metaphysical red string of fate that binds lovers.

>One Man Army
A bow with the ability to augment itself, whatever is fired from it, and its user depending on the number of enemies/targets if its user is alone and outnumbered. The bow’s power scaling accounts for more than just the quantity of enemies as it takes the power of each individual foe into consideration as well.

>A Song of Fire and Ice
A morning star which can deal severe amounts of both hot and cold damage. It deals cold (and possibly necrotic) damage by siphoning the heat from its surroundings and can deal fire (and possibly radiant) damage by releasing the heat that it has amassed. Direct hits in cold mode can cause necrosis and with enough siphoned energy the weapon could theoretically release a blast stronger than that of a nuclear warhead’s explosion.

You looking for that catgirl pdf?

I actually think it's quite tasteless. Hunter's Mark is a ranger-exclusive spell. This homebrew makes a point to make the ranger more 'magical' and then removes that one spell. The homebrew also forces you to put in at least 12 WIS to stay even with the UA ranger on spells known.

Rewarding Foe Slayer at level 6 is also quite strange. Both UA and normal ranger get this at 20. Also extra attack for everyone, evasion for everyone, swift attack for everyone and a "not a crit into a crit" ability at 20, on a short rest. Not even the rogue gets that.

Gloaming Aspect. Free movement after an attack that doesn't use (sub-)action. The other stuff is more like 'what if I were a magical ranger assassin'. The few UA features that cover stealth look more appealing to me.

Beast Aspect. Almost identical to UA ranger, but gives more stuff to the ranger as a caster and less to the animal companion.

Stone Aspect. I have no clue what the idea behind this is. Does this try to merge rangers with barbarians?

All in all, I'd not allow this on my table. I'd tell my players to stick to the UA ranger and if they want to refluff something we'd do it from there.

(2/3)

>Hrunting: Marked for Death
This scythe marks a target upon dealing damage to it. Upon marking a target, the scythe will have an ever increasing chance to instantly kill its target(s) and will eventually become an independent creature and attack on its own without the need of any input from its user if the user’s target(s) manage to survive long enough to piss the scythe off.

>God Hand
A gauntlet which can telekinetically interact with anything in the user’s line of sight. By aligning one’s fingers with an enemy that the wielder of the gauntlet sees far off in the distance and closing them, the user can instantly crush said enemy.

Major Drawbacks:
- Beware of mirrors.
- Don’t look at the sun or you (and everyone else) might go blind.

>Cain
A stylish as fuck cane sword that has the ability to prevent its user from ever losing their balance or footing no matter what. Inadvertently boosts acrobatics to 999.

Major Drawback:
- Not a threaded cane, unfortunately.

>00 Trailblazers
A pair of twin katana that can leave behind undetectable, indestructible, and incredibly sharp afterimage trails folded over 1000 times with their slashes. Walking into one of these trails will really hurt. Only the user of the swords can see the trails and the user is also immune to them. All trails will disappear when the swords are sheathed.

>Arcane Focus of Inversion
Casting cantrips and spells will increase the number of respective slots and can allow for more casting without resting.

Major Drawbacks:
- Upon use, those in your immediate vicinity (usually party members) may have some of their cantrip and spell slots temporarily removed. Though this drawback can actually be used against your enemies, you would need to get really close and expose yourself to more danger in order to do so.
- When there is nobody else in your immediate vicinity, overuse of the focus may lead to instant incapacitation and/or death.

(3/3)

>Wraithblade
A sword with an incorporeal blade whose only weight comes from its guard, grip, and pommel. The blade ignores everything except organic matter and other incorporeal existences. Don’t cut yourself senpai.

>Achilles’ Revengeance
A divine construct that can take the form of any weapon. It is capable of changing its form, types, effects, etc. to target its prey’s weaknesses.

>Golden Tome of the Endless Nine
This is a spellbook which denies and rejects the existence of any cantrip or spell that is not written on its pages. If a cantrip or spell is not recorded in this book, then it cannot be casted by the user or any other creature within 999.999 999 feet. Comes with a free magical eraser.

>Five in the Chamber
A magical, conceptual revolver that has a ⅚ chance to INSTANTLY kill its target. No saving throws allowed. Get that legendary resistance shit outta here.

>Major Drawback(?):
-Should the user attempt to kill an enemy with this revolver and fail, the user must commit suicide or kill a party member. Conversely, if the user attempts to shoot himself or a party member first and acquire a favorable result, then the fate of their enemies shall be a foregone conclusion.

>The Ol’ Switcheroo
9th level or Epic illusion spell that can override reality itself. This spell forcibly instigates the exchange of fates (that are close in karmic value) between one creature or object and another. You can revive the chosen one and kill a world ending dragon at the same time!

Major Drawback:
- There may be a tiny chance of the wish-tier spell pulling a monkey’s paw on you. In the aforementioned example, the chosen one that you revived might have ended up claiming the the title of world ender upon his/her resurrection. Thanks for killing the chosen dragon of world salvation, asshole.

>Hunter's Mark is a ranger-exclusive spell
Technically vengeance paladins also get it.

>vengeance paladins
Oh well, guess it WAS a ranger exclusive spell. damn

wraithblade, achille's revengeance, or five in the chamber. Godhand looks fun but I dont wanna make everyone go blind, or choke myself out

>>Phylactery of Yonder
>Not a Zeno Ward

You're terrible Harry

What's the best Discord bot for dice rolling? Theater of the mind, no roll20. I know about sidekick, I'm looking for something that knows about D&D (spells, saves, checks), and can read character sheets.

Oh shit thanks user. This is good desu. I guess the shield would look like a tortoise shell then?

Vengeance Paladins were in the PHB, so it was never exclusive. And tying one of the class' main damage features to a spell was never a good idea. It was bad with Warlock & Hex, and it's bad here.

God no, Tortles are a player race now, that shit would be a hate crime

Like, how would you like if my Druid acolyte of the Great Ar'Tuin had a necklace made of pointy elf ears, Jesus christ

You actually can't use TWF with a net. It's not a melee weapon. So just really talk to your DM about this stuff.

oh the shame
let me disappear

Avrae

I'm back gentlemen, you've all been helpful so far and lent me your ears along with the aiding opinions in my past questions.

I'd like to ask you, when I first started in my session a year ago, we began with LMoP. I encountered Agatha, the Banshee.

Now that I'm level 10, our group has suffered through a lot of Bullshit and hardships where we really have nowhere to turn. We're currently trying to find a way to kill a Rakshasa who is our BBEG but he's ruined our image, destroyed Tresender Manor (We rebuilt it, warded it, it was our Home.) and so we've recently moved into Cragmaw with little to nothing in our names.

(The Rakshasa's Organization has kidnapped or killed everyone who travels between Luskan and Waterdeep, most villages/towns are empty or boarded up trying to wait out this apocolyptic setting. Most places are deserted aside from major cities.)

Explanation aside. I want to propose an offer to Agatha, she's a Banshee who serves little to no purpose at the moment in our campaign. She's dead and as I understand it, Banshees live in a constant state of torment. I know she's evil. I'm evil too, so is most of our group. I'm a Dick Necromancer.

I've dealt with her in the past. We couldn't get her Silver Comb back, but I showered her with Beauty Trinkets (No Mirrors) prior.

1. How would you go about Resurrecting or Reincarnating a Long Dead Banshee?
2. Does True Resurrection just do the trick?
3. How would you go about doing this or how would you propose this to your DM?
4. Thoughts?

I need a Benefactor. I figure if I bring her back, she can teach me magic or some shit.

You have my undying gratitute my negros

>I'm a Dick Necromancer.
You create undead dicks?

>The eternally quiet player that just plays Good aligned Assassins/Ninjas

I've Animated every prior PC who's died in our Party to be my minions, I kept them in Cells below Tresender Manor, Animated, then killed them with a spear through the bars and re-animated them when I needed their services.

I once tied explosive jars of Dwarf Fire to a skeleton and had it run into a Waterdeep Tavern in the docks district fully robed with an illusion on it, dive into the fireplace to detonate itself. All because an Information Broker who lived on the 2nd floor sold me a bag of holding that tried to eat my hand when I reached inside.

I put a Glyph of Warding on a fake spellbook, had a child hold it under a suggestion spell and it exploded, killing a Lords Alliance Noble of Neverwinter when he went to take it from him. Kid too.

I've done terrible things. These are just the most prominent.

Wew lad

[Nasheeds intensify]

>no undead dicks
I suggest you better start doing that now. So far, you're only "Creative Necromancer".

Fuck. You know, you're right. I will try harder user. I need more Dickery in my life.

>How would you go about Resurrecting or Reincarnating a Long Dead Banshee?
>Does True Resurrection just do the trick?
True Resurrection is in fact the only thing that would work, to my knowledge. Or Wish I guess.
>How would you go about doing this or how would you propose this to your DM?
If you have a way of casting true resurrection (somehow; it's 9th level, costs 25k and needs a corpse, and she can't have been dead longer than 200 years), then first you'd have to get Agatha's body and then just cast the spell.
Aside from clarifying whether or not Agatha can be raised like this (she might have died too long ago for this to work etc), your DM can't exactly say no.
>Thoughts?
She'd probably be grateful, so that might get you an ally. But whether or not she's a mage or even helpful is entirely up to the DM. Also, bringing back a vain, evil elf might not go that well for you.

I also had a plan of filling a Bag of Holding with a bunch of Crawling Hands... You know... For situations.

what's better
AD&D 2e or D&D 5e?

THAC0

>Fill a bag of holding with crawling hands
>For when you absolutely have to beat off every person in the room at once
>Or when you get tied up in the ropes too tight and she won't let you down because you forgot the safe word
Sounds like some kinky situations there user

True Resurrection doesn't need a corpse - you can speak the creature's name to create a new body for it.

depends on what kind of adventure you want to run/ if you like OSRG

>Not just stuffing a small child, halfling, gnome, dwarf or skinny elf into the bag for ultimate Hand-dom.

You bring up Valid points, thank you.

Our DM made our world "Persistent". When we take time to craft things, wait for merchants, travel, etc. It moves the clock for what the Rakshasa is doing in the background. He legitimately has a list of Objectives the Rakshasa has to or has completed and time duration's on them.

In the meantime, as we initially dicked around, he was killing off any NPC's we were "friendly" with. Or who helped us.

We're literally losing the campaign at the moment, and I for one, will take a 50/50 chance to revive a dead elf who was obsessed with her own beauty. (The Wiki says she was a Wizard too...)

Answering in this thread because I think it warrants discussion
Thankfully my table and I are already escorting the cleric, so this won't be an issue (if she survives).

So on impulse during Lost Mines, I blurted out that Iarno Albrek is in fact Sildar Halwinter's blood brother. Now my PCs are hoping there's a redemption arc for Iarno to come back to the side of good after turning away from the Lord's Alliance after being in cahoots with the Black Spider. Any ideas how I can turn this into something special? My PCs are really into this potential brother storyline. Might make Iarno turn on Black Spider in the battle and fight with the PCs if they are able to persuade him to join.

So I decided to go chain warlock for my table's next campaign and I want to get the most out of it as possible, not just EB spam. Here's a list of utility things the familiar can do that I've gotten so far, keep in mind Voice of the Chain Master is a must:
>Scouting (while invisible)
>Touch spells (situational)
>actions help and use item while invisible (includes carrying potions)
>rogue synergy
>melee attacks (meh)
>heart sight from sprite
>keen senses from dragon
>poisoned condition for quasit

Are there any really good ones I'm missing? This is probably the only time I'll ever run warlock so I want to get the most out of it

Remember that Glasstaff initially started the Red Brands because he sought power that the Lords Alliance couldn't provide him. Being a Lacky, taking orders, etc. Didn't fit what he wanted.

I believe only Sildar knows about Glasstaff's betrayal, so it keeps the issue bottled up right there in Phandalin.

So any redemption, perhaps Glasstaff learning that Sildar was kidnapped and beaten so badly, that Blackspider seeks to discard him after using the Wind Echo Caves.
Or that there's a Doppleganger already moving to "Replace" Glasstaff after his failure with the Red Brands, that the players can prevent.

Priests and acolytes can cure disease

where does it mention either of those?

Lesser restoration can cure diseases, and priests have that.

Doing a Strahd campaign right now. My players burned down the Old Bonegrinder killing the children inside of it.

The raven saw this, and I'm assuming that he'll inform the wereravens in Vallaki of this.

How should I handle this? I don't want to burn the PCs ties with the ravens but I also want to punish them for child murder.

So a bunch of adventurers wander into a massive underground fortress, long since abandoned, with magical items aplenty. This happens to be the home of a nothic, a complete side-monster with little relevance on the adventurer's quest, although he used to live here and knows all about the nasty crawly things that live thereand the sharks in the basement. None of the adventurers speak undercommon. The adventurers are too powerful for the nothic to take down, and besides, it needs to watch it's back constantly or it'll get eaten by a carrion crawler.

So my question, Veeky Forums, is how the HELL does it act? Agressive? Shy? Opportunistic? Does it try and make a deal for their magical items through hand puppets and the medium of interpretative dance?

Action has consequence. Teach them that.

Fear from Quasit and the imp can be a face in situation when you're talking to things that don't care it's an imp

Thoughts on multiclassing?

An interesting way to create character builds? A tool that is abused by min-maxers? A way to play the class you want but keep them on par with 'better' classes?

Curse the characters with stat debuffs, and if they were OOC while doing it, debuff them again.

The issue with that is no air, then again being a necromancer that's a quick spell to fix but eventually you'll have to get new bodies.

The coward's way out

Which classes are best going straight to 20 and which are made more interesting/better by multiclassing?

Their reasoning was "Either we kill the kids by fire and take the hags out with them, or we leave and the hags grind them up and eat them later"

So it was a mercy killing.. Still fucked up logic though but I don't see it as 100% murder-hobo.

O P P O R T U N I T Y

The guardian of this cave is a nothic - an insane
subterranean monster that hungers for flesh,
lured by a faint magical effect...

If it notices intruders entering the cave, it hides behind one
of the large stone columns and watches them, attempting
to use its Weird Insight (see the creature's stat block) to
discern the characters' secrets.
The nothic communicates using telepathy. If detected,
it prefers to negotiate ... for the right incentive, such as the promise of
food. When roleplaying the nothic, consider speaking in
whispers and throwing in some mad cackles and bits of
gibberish. Also be sure to mention that the creature isn't
actually talking but rather filling the characters' heads
with its foul murmurings and demands for food.

>Which classes are best going straight to 20?
Bard
Cleric
Druid
Fighter
Monk
Paladin
Rogue
Wizard

What's one of the strangest things you've seen a DM do to accommodate a player?

Weirdest I saw was my buddy played a bard and got Giant-Slayer off a random Loot Table. His bond was he lost some one he loved so he decided it was a sign he should vow vengeance on the Giants who killed his waifu. So he took Ranger as a multi-class and named giants his favored enemy. Well up until this point the only giants were continents away. Now we were fighting giants every other session. It kind of hurt my autism but it was cool of my DM to be a bro to noob and help make his terrible decisions suck less.

>Trying to find art of a human/Aasimar Sun Soul Monk

WHY IS IT SO FUCKING HARD TO FIND ART OF MONKS THAT AREN'T BALD OR OLD FUCKING MEN

>Not shaving your head to show your piety
What a goober.

I want a knockoff Saiyan not this bullshit

be Sun Goku.

>Which classes are best going straight to 20

Full casters, because you keep getting brand new abilities all the time and some of the best spells are at higher levels. Whether you want to go all the way to 20 is optional but you definitely want those 9th level spells.

Other classes get their best features at lower levels and then only get incrementally better without any fundamentally new abilities for the most part, so it's often worthwhile taking a dip and grabbing those low level features from someone else.

That's exactly what I'm trying to do, basically.

It also sucks that Sun Souls don't get a beam attack.

Well you just found art then, didn't you?
You're welcome.

...

Magic Initiate can probably fix that for you.

...but sun sools specifically do have beams of radiant energy.

With what? Guiding Bolt as first level once a long rest and pretending that Sacred Flame is a beam? Something with the wrong spellcasting modifier?

Also another problem is that I wanted go do with an Aasimar to go super saiyan, so they don't exactly get a free feat.
The basic attack is a "bolt" or laser or whatever, but all they get after that is Burning Hands and a Spirit Bomb.
Problem is I don't want them to look LITERALLY like Goku. I might as well just go in to Xenoverse 2 or something and make up a character in that.

>pretending that Sacred Flame is a beam?
Why not?
>The basic attack is a "bolt" or laser or whatever
How can this possibly be so hard for you to visualize as a beam? I knew you lacked originality because "muh DBZ", but this is a whole new level of creative bankruptcy.

>Being burnt alive
>Mercy killing

Good ideas, user. Thanks. Doppelgangers are also fun to use and I think I can make some cool mindfucks with them (but not going overboard.)

Players are in a tourney arc and they entered as a party and while there's a mix of boss encounters in it, I want to give them a Party vs Party encounter. I'm thinking of mirroring their Party set up (bard, fighter, wizard, cleric) and let them fight a party like them. I think it would make an interesting session. That said, they do like their challenge so I'm trying to think of a party make-up that can let them break sweat.

Look after that. I mean the "After that" part immediately following that line. They don't get bigger lasers.
Granted I just remembered that I can reflavor certain other things, but whatever.

What I'm thinking of/what's stuck in my head might actually be a blaster Light Cleric.

>Problem is I don't want them to look LITERALLY like Goku.
You're playing a Sun Soul Monk. With lots of hair.
Everyone at the table will be instantly aware that you are wanking DBZ, same as if you played a Tortle with a pair of Nunchuks, you unimaginative twat.
