Well he asked to see my character sheet and then said I needed to make some changes to be compliant with the rules, but I argued with him as the Rules as Interpreted support me because there is nothing saying I CAN'T do what I have done.

He said that because there is nothing saying I CAN, I need to get in line with the rest of the group as they have apparently all said I am a munchkin or power gamer and are supposedly tired of me being a rules lawyer to them while flagrantly disregarding ones that I don't want to adhere to so I can succeed in all my tabletop endeavors.

That's pretty unreasonable, right? I haven't even tried to break the game but I could really easily if I wanted. I'm not a munchkin at all, I just know how to play the game really well.

But the rules support me. And what's more important is that I am having fun. Nothing is stopping the other people playing from making characters that do as good as mine does, so why should I have to suffer?

Munchkins are people that deliberately break the game, which I haven't done. Yes I have made items that fall outside the norm and are better than the standard ones in the books, and yes I make sure to tell people when they are getting rules wrong, because it's not ok to disregard things as they are written or interpreted, but if I can argue my case it's not my fault they are too dense to understand how I am right. I mean sure I have some min-maxed stats, but again if I wanted to I could really break the game and then that would show them how I'm not a munchkin.

Well if I have a good reason for being an elf, like I was the child of a demi/god who made me in the image of an elf, and after spending a year in hell and getting possessed by a demon in my hand the only thing that looks different now is that I have small horns and darker skin than normal, but I hide my ears and can do magic even though I am not playing a magic class, I don't see the problem. We did something like this where I was a normal race, but then got possessed by the spirit of a special race that died out years ago, but I didn't tell my d-m at character creation, because it wasn't important to the story then.

A few sessions ago I let the group know I could now use demon magic because of the spirit, which they said was quite "special snowflake", so I assumed that was good. My d-m said he wanted to see my sheet and that's when the trouble started.

He asked me to change my armor class to fit the items in the handbook book, because I was wearing special armor I had made myself and had interpreted a rule around increasing it differently to what he had. He also asked me to put the items I had created into line with the rules for item creation we had been using, which is what I meant by the part saying there were segments that didn't specify I could not do something, so I did it.

Rules support you but the rules are rules at the GM/DM's discretion. So has it been and so shall it be.

Another point, though yes, your fun is important, the fun of the many outweighs the fun of the few. If the GM/DM stated that other players had come to him, this has obviously been an ongoing issue.

Seriously, go find another group. Find other people who can play whatever game it is as good as you can and just play with them; sounds like that's what you're looking for, unless you're simply looking to outshine those who don't play how you do in which case, that's a paddling.

K. So the easiest way to get back into the game is to just give the DM what he wants and fix the armour and ur items. Even if you gotta think of it as giving the baby his bottle, just do it. No armour is worth being kicked from your group.

But there are no other groups like this one. They are all the best players in my town and the adventure is the most fun and the d-m is the best one I have seen. Also the other ones at the university asked me not to come back after the first couple of sessions because I was apparently trying to bend the rules to fit me too much when all I was trying to do was make sure my backstory made sense in the game. I didn't think it was that big of a deal to have a 20 year old PHD who had also controlled a criminal cartel and was a notorious assassin, not to mention he had made a deal with a devil and then managed to pull one over on it, getting out of giving up his soul but keeping the powers. The d-m there said it was too much for a level 1 character, but the others in the group said I should be given a chance as they thought the character would be hilarious to watch. I think I just have bad luck with mean d-ms.

Their not being rules does not give you a free pass to do whatever you want. The DM decided against you and you didn't compromise. He is right about kicking you.

Or rather, they don't say I can't, and I don't think it's fair if the d-m tells me I can't because he doesn't like it, that makes it not fun for me and means I can't tell my character's story. I just think they all need to get a full understanding of the books like I have done.

The other armor in the game is too boring and there's another PC with really good armor that he spent a long time gathering the skills and parts to make, after a story quest. I realized I could do it if I just got enough money and then that way there's two people who can be on the front line, so I managed to get what he got in a few sessions instead of twenty something. He could have done it that way too but he did the quests, so if he is allowed to do that why can't I?

You know what else the book doesn't say you can't do? Let me make you a list.

With the right book, stop gravity and float off into space without the use of magic.

If you wanna use the argument of "Book doesn't stop me from doing X" then you might as well agree with the above point.

If you want the book to be accurate 100% rules as written then you have to abide by Rule 0 as well. The one that says your DMs rule is law. You can't have you cake and eat it.

But the d-m gave the others items that are really strong. One of the others can do heaps of damage in one round, but he doesn't always do it because it risks a lot for him, so I thought it would be awesome to make a version of that which didn't have the drawback, which the rules supported, and then there would be two people who were that strong.

Also the d-m said the group were not happy that I sometimes attacked their characters because of the dark forces in my character that demanded blood and they were the only ones around. I mean I roleplay it so it fits the game, but it seems they don't like it, and as my d-m put it the game is meant to be cooperative and while he doesn't mind people going off and doing their own solo things, trying to kill all the other PCs is not ok in his book. His book being the supposed rulebook where there is nothing saying I can't kill PCs if it's in character.

I don't think gravity can be circumvented based on what I know of the rules, but perhaps if I did something to affect the speeds which people moved? But that Rule 0 means that anything I do can be vetoed by the d-m even if the rules say nothing about it. How is that fair? If I'm smart enough to come up with it, and the rules don't have a way to do it, shouldn't it be up to the d-m to accommodate me? That's what I have read in various places.

Are we talking state or federal precedent? I'm not sure if federal law has a set precedent, but I think until such a decision comes to the Supreme Court, it'll continue to be decided by state.

Call or send a letter to your state representative and ask for their official policy on matters of "is it gay if-?" and other such questions. Although states can be weird about such things. I know here kissing isn't considered gay, but in Kansas it's gay if you peel a bell pepper in hotel lobby. Other states have similarly weird decisions on this matter.

Yes but his facebook account was set to private so I couldn't see where he lived. Thankfully that did allow me to get his last name and cross check against the other people of that name in town, which is how I found his mother. She is a widow which is quite sad, but she was happy to hear that her son had such a nice friend in me, and gave me his address. I promised to visit with her on occasion as it appears he does not see her as much as she would like, he is too busy with his work and his girlfriend.

I will go to his house about 30 minutes after the normal time our sessions end as based on google maps it would take him about half that long to get from our other friend's house to his address with the traffic at that time of day. If you come up with what you consider to be a great idea, talk it through with the DM, as they may well consider it imbalanced and inappropriate for their game. IF THEY SAY NO, ACCEPT THEIR DECISION AND DON'T ARGUE! Otherwise, you'll just get kicked out again.
