I’d just like to thank you for putting in some Judy Blume. I’d bet that a lot of the posters here didn’t read her, but her work is truly classic children’s lit.

...Also, the only reason English audiences think 20,000 Leagues is kid stuff is that the Miller translation, one of the most popular versions of it, hacked out huge chunks of the text which contained technical material which Miller didn’t understand. For example, most readers probably don’t know that the Nautilus derived electric power using a thermocouple exploiting the temperature differential between ocean depths. The story makes a lot more sense if you read another translation. Nice choice of cover, BTW.

While it may not be the better suited for killing Grimm, if you could describe Nero with a word it could be: Killer. After all, his work before becoming a Hunter was putting an end to the life he was tasked to (being 95% of the time Human or Faunus) thanks to his Semblance and his “inhuman-like” capabilities. Also not particularly good at anything but tracking whoever he wish (or is tasked) to find (thanks again, old life).

How did such individual end up in an Academy? Well, let’s say Nero find out that becoming a Hunter granted him entrance to many doors, which could help him achieve what he wishes for. One of his formers bosses, heard about this and since he saw potential in him, he actually help him join Atlas Academy. Of course this wasn’t kind hearted, because, with time, Nero was going to pay the favor back by a tenfold.

He meet his new team at the Academy, Rougue, a girl who is always competing to be the best at anything. Lutz, a laidback guy who doesn’t care what they do as long as he doesn’t do much and Zuri, a girl, which Nero cares the most because he holds her as his only friend, and the only person Nero feels comfortable talking about his past (not all of it and not the important details, for sure).

I always wanted to live through death game stories, like TWEWY, Zero Escapes, Danganronpa etc.
But honestly, there wouldn't be a genre I'd not visit, horror, shounen stuff, fantasy, romance and lots of porn.
After living my favorite stories, I'd start picking pieces of fiction that look fun without reading the story beforehand, so everything remains a surprise.

Aside from keeping any unnecessary deaths and betrayals from happening, my whole purpose in this dream is to play Tiffany Aching to Opal Koboi. With True Heart, Makings of a Witch, The Sight, and my Deltoran gems, it's impossible to hide from me with illusions. The gems might even stop me from getting mind-wiped, but even succeeding at that wouldn't stop me. I have a Field Guide that details ALL of fairykind, and when I set out to solve a mystery it's impossible to stop me from succeeding! They could pull the time stop on me and steal it, but then the Nac Mac Feegle would go after it. And a clone of Butler. Probably both at the same time. God help us all.

Gift of Giving, Unless..., and True Heart will hopefully stop a lot of the unnecessary tension between the Fowl family and the plot relevant members of fairykind. Then we can focus on what really matters. Joint ownership and management of a government funded DARPA equivalent to outpace Koboi labs. Nothing throws off a grandiose genius like a threat to their ego.

And a thermocouple resembles neither a Stirling engine nor an electric generator; I think you may be confusing them with something else. (In practice, thermocouples are not good power generators, and are mainly used as temperature sensors.)

Alejandro was a prim and proper nobel, the son of a wealthy Model and an even wealthier Banker. He lived most of his life sheltered and arrogant. That he was a gift to this world. That all stopped when he met his first Grimm in the field of battle. After 'Eating' a Beowulf his sister become curious about his ability. After a couple dozen the mass of Ichor and Bone terrified her. Thinking the beasts had some how corrupted her brother she tried to kill him.

Isolation and contempt is what he received when he barley made it home alive. Now instead of being Gods gift to man he was it's curse. For four years he spent his life in his room. All he could do was read, train and brood. Years and years of 'Education' he was forced through made him want to rebel but he followed his family's words dutifully. No matter the fear of his sister, the glare of his mother... or the disappointment of his father. On his 16th birthday he was finally allowed freedom in return for one thing. Never use that godawful semblance and never drag the name Adonis through the mud. If you become a hunter or renown you may become heir once more.

I made the CYOA and I thoroughly considered the chef option in my build too. I love cooking and making cocktails.
Culinary arts have so much depth because all civilizations have been improving it through history and adding their own traditions to the art.
Too bad being a cook pays poorly even in a good restaurant and starting a restaurant might not go well even if the food is excellent. But there are other options.

not sure if semblances can really mess with biology/remold people, so it would most likely just be summoner more or less- but semblances arent very well explored so maybe some form of what you are suggesting could work

aside from that seems like a cool build, very unique weapon too- actually really pleases with how creative some of them have been desu

I'm already a decent writer. (typist, not so much) and a good enough chef for my purposes (best in my peer group with no intent to crack into professional levels). They'd be boosted, sure, but it wouldn't be as pronounced. So those are out. Physician could be useful, but I'd still have to go to med school and get certified to really use it. Music and "misc junk" don't really appeal to me.

That leaves three options: Math/physics, visual arts, and IT. IT would really improve quality of life and I could start working freelance. Visual Arts would combo with my Writing skill to let me bring the stories I want to tell to life in a more marketable fashion (doing covers, illustrations, or even converting to comic format), while Math would mostly be to sate my personal hunger for abstract knowledge.

I think I'll take Visual Arts. I've tried to learn the normal way and... I am beyond no good at anything except miniatures painting where I hit OK for tabletop quality at best. So if I ultimately want both visual arts and IT, I think I've got a better shot learning IT without magic CYOA help, and Math/Physics doesn't present new opportunities to better my lot in life.

I was under the assumption that a semblance could be anything not to out there you know? Like speed and energy absorption is good but putting the concept of spaghetti on your opponents is a no no.

I think the answer is that we don't really have a canon answer as to what if anything is the limit of what a semblance can do. Yang's and Qrow's both have very interesting effects/side effects that leave lots of doors open.

Polarity was, frankly, only the crazy semblance it was because Pyrrha was both crazy strong and really good at using it.

Emerald dips into mind control with her mental illusions. She's narrow, but entering spheres other than the physical.

Yang's basic damage = power up is pretty tame (though strong) but her red eye mode indicates that there's some physical change over her from her Semblance.

Then there's Qrow. His semblance is bad luck (Blackbird in the CYOA) which... this is passively manipulating the universe in a way in which we can't really understand.

And lastly, Weiss' Semblance is basically "Be the Wizard" -- her glyphs have a lot of space/force effects including (momentary) superspeed, mid-air footholds, slingshot effects, and that's not even getting into the implications of "Summon recreations of your defeated enemies".

IIRC, pretty much all of them have been in one of three categories:
>energy-based (counting 'misfortune' and telekinesis as kinetic energy)
>psychological (illusions)
>temporary object/creature creation (summoning, most cloning powers)
This suggests that the main limit of Semblances is a general inability (or at least difficulty) to create actual matter.

True, I just think chaining Grimm to yourself isn't too far out there. There had to have been some cases of it. That's why I went for it, the horror route and the cool factor. How would people react to a hunter that can make a liquid mass of Grimm into weapons and have them fight for him. Being able to transform into a giant abominable flesh monster shaped into all types of those monsters while having a soul and a heart of gold sounds like a good story.
