What's Veeky Forums opinion on Goblin Slayer

What's Veeky Forums opinion on Goblin Slayer.

i hate everything, it included

Edge, Eddge n Eddgy

It spends a lot of time on worldbuilding, but the world is nonsense.

I like it, it's nice to see a trope played straight for once: The main character doesn't need to "get good" his flaws based on personal ones and how he distances himself from other people, the goblins aren't fucking stupid for plot purposes, are motivated by survival, and are actually conniving, evil, competent enemy that have proven to be a capable threat to even skilled individuals if underestimated. I also kind of like how the 'plot' doesn't really get ahead of itself, we always know what we'll be doing: killing goblins- there are other things going on in the world, sure, but we're here to kill. goblins.

If I had one complaint it would be that they jumped the shark completely at the end of the 'farm siege' arc because goblin slayer took off his helmet AND the manga did one of those infuriating, meta, "the author explains how cool the character is" moments that up until then the manga had been deprived of.
No, fuck off, I don't give a shit about how he's "ahead of the rolls of gods", is that supposed to endear me to this character? How you just told me he's one step ahead of basically the 'plot'? You just fucking ruined the entire atmosphere of the whole fucking series you dumb cunt jap author, jesus christ.

Anyway, it's okay.
Dungeon Meshi is the only thing Veeky Forums universally loves.

About the same as Dungeon Meshi

Dungeon Meshi is just a bunch of fetishes slapped together in a comic-book form to appeal to the broadest possible audience.

May the gods have mercy on your soul when the rest of Veeky Forums reads this

yeah we'll type at the fucker angrily

Not enough rape

But it's true.

It's not.

Edgy self insert fantasy.

RNG gods will show no mercy to his blasphemous soul. His rolls are forever cursed. He will forever roll 3d6 and pick the lowest in all his future incarnations. He will spend millenia among hugry ghosts craving for (You)s. His toll is eternal suffering until he finds the Truth and enlightment.

Dungeon Meshi is nice to read though.

Rolled 1, 3, 6 = 10 (3d6)

I was replying to with then I posted .

Just because something is a pile of fetishes doesn't make it bad.

I thought dungeon meishi was about food? This sounds way better.

I find it really weird and don't quite enjoy it. It seems to suffer a lot from the main character being knowledgeable in a weird way that doesn't line up with a functioning word. Everyone else goes about acting like normal JRPG stuff works and it's accepted practice in the world that it does work but somehow it all changes when goblins are involved and starts working on it's own internal logic? It feels a lot like when people write fanfiction for an existing world with a main character who uses meta-knowledge to beat stuff because he's smarter than everyone else (Like someone bringing guns into a harry potter story)

Rolled 2, 3, 3 = 8 (3d6)

You can slap that description on anything to make it sound better. But something that's purely a bunch of fetishes slapped together for broad appeal would be ideal.

To : Your curse was too late. I was the one to get .

Yeah, making yet another /a/ thread will surely help.

It's shit.

Veeky Forums is just salty and mad about Goblin slayer playing things straight.

Dungeon Meshi is better.

My opinion is that I'm tired of hearing about it.

Rolled 3, 19, 7, 5, 16, 2, 20, 8, 7, 11 = 98 (10d20)

We'll let the dice sort this out.

So what other Veeky Forums related manga you reading? I'm enjoying Kumo Desu Ga, Nani Ka so far.

Rolled 10, 13, 11, 18, 14, 7, 13, 13, 11, 7 = 117 (10d20)

5 crits, this manga isn't Veeky Forums tier.

I enjoyed Helck a lot, but I think it somehow ended.

That one where the Demon Lord reincarnated as a cute girl who spies on The Hero as his fairy companion was cute

Yeah, this pretty much. The entire 'internal consistency' falls to pieces when you ask why people think goblins are pathetic, easy enemies not worth a hero's time when they clearly, consistently, and LETHALLY are not.

No one would level up to become epic heroes thinking goblins were weak little shit heels, because anyone who does that is killed by goblins, meaning the mentality would never come into being in the first place because it demonstrably, visibly, and again, consistently, is not only wrong but can and will get you killed.

>this manga isn't Veeky Forums tier.

Eh. It's as related as any manga with magic, monsters and gods is.

What makes Veeky Forums great is the sheer amount of topics that can be relevant to the board. World building, storytelling, history, literature, armour, weapons, tropes, manga, video games, geography... Since the average person here isn't a sperglord (unlike /v/ or /b/), these threads usually remain on topic and can offer quite nice insights at times.

Pic can either be related or not related, depending on what takes Veeky Forums's fancy.

I wish Kuutei Dragons would update

I remember some talk about a god fucking with the the goblins. That's why there more dangerous now. Apparently it comes up in the Light novel?

>that is a dragon
Oh japan, what are you doing.

Tsk. Um, ACTUALLY, that's a wyrm.

don't sign your posts

Fucking rookie. I swear.

At least it's not isekai.

>trying to attract an audience with muh edgy shock value
I don't care if it gets better later on, the author is clearly trash.

Still being released as far as I know, even if I am a few dozen chapters behind.

Kinda cool concept for a hero but the setting breaks to justify his existence.

It makes sense only as a videogame world that suddenly has to follow real-world logic.

>no High Elf Archer

>Goblin Slayer is fun because it "plays the tropes straight"

No. It doesn't. It is edgy on purpose. High fantasy heroes do not mercilessly slay goblins for no reason, especially not babies.
>b-but my tropes! my always chaotic evil!

Sure, you may ENJOY that concept, but that is not generic fantasy that is 'playing the tropes straight" you fucking ingrate.

One of the few good things about this manga. I would build an altar for these hips.

That would explain why I don't see any threads anymore. Last time someone dumped a chapter the bird somehow saved everyone

Amen

>No. It doesn't. It is edgy on purpose. High fantasy heroes do not mercilessly slay goblins for no reason, especially not babies.
I'm pretty sure it's explained in the series that goblins are hyper aggressive vermin, isn't it? They don't just go around slaughtering them for kicks.

...

Hey i know that artstyle, its from a popular series of french comics! "Les nombris" if i recall.

Goblin Slayer as a story is like the Purge or many, many other bad fictional worlds that sets up a nonsensical world where goblins are constantly raking and torturing young and attractive women across the land but no one is willing to do anything about it except for the lowest level of adventurers. Then the story bends over backwards to create a bland protagonist that solves the problem the logical way - frequently by going against the rules of the world it sets up to make them clever. And then it tries to shame the rest of this entirely fictional world for not addressing the problem as if the author is trying to make a statement about the real world, but teaching morality in such a contrived way is one of the most common features of terrible writing.

The manga looks terrible, the art is generic and bad. There are missing textures, clones background prieces, nonsensical anatomies, inconsistent perspectives (not done on purpose), etc.

Around the time it was relatively new, I posted a couple rants about why it's writing is lazy as fuck and the story in general is boring. That was when there were 3 or 4 chapters, and like I said back then I haven't followed it at all. Probably would have forgotten all about it if these threads didn't pop up from time to time.

So give me the TL;DR, how many more throwaway one-time characters have been raped? How many actual main character have almost been raped versus actually been raped. That childhood friend from...think it was chapter 3? Has she been raped or almost-raped yet? Cause I remember I could sense the flags when they introduced her.

...

It kinda went downhill after monkey fight desu, with a million of skills acquired including a notorious isekai "cheat skill" and all sense of danger gone for now and.
Majority of those rpg dung isekai could be instantly made better by removing [Skills], why do they keep inserting them into everything, no idea.

There was actually a decrease of rapes, most of the time we only saw the aftermath. A new side-story has been released that showed how Goblin Slayers village got attack when he was a kid, with the most pornographic rape scene so far.

It is. I have this edit of a storytime on /co/ a few month back

Tivadar would be proud.

Thats exactly what it feels like. Its like someones trying to show how smart they are by changing the rules on everyone except the main character, then having them point out all the flaws. Except in this case, its the goblins pointing out the flaws. With rape.

I've been wanting her to get to the surface world for awhile now.

>not buying leg armour to fight against fucking manlets

Sounds pretty sad.

I'm afraid we won't get to see it. I have a feeling it would be something like: Fire layer -> Real Dragon fight -> Getting own domain arc -> Truth of the world revealed -> the end

>High fantasy heroes do not mercilessly slay goblins for no reason
Because farmers don't pay them enough. But they took care of big hordes when they menace big popullations. They just don't care about "goblins stole my cow" missions in little country side villages since they are high risk little reward.

See now, I was almost willing to throw the writer a bone up until what you said about Goblin Slayer's village. I swear to god, Japan's habit of using rape as a way to add sex appeal is the most annoying shit. I said back in the day that that was the main reason he included it, but a lot of people disagreed.

Though that said, I thought the third chapter already covered what happened to GS's village, the chapter where they introduced that childhood friend who got out just in time to avoid the goblin raid. Did he go back to it again, or have there just not been a lot of chapters in the year or so since I last checked? Think it was a year at least, although it might have been in January or February.

This.

I can appreciate the IDEA behind Goblin Slayer: this weird adventurer with a personal grudge against a type of monster that should be well below his level by now. But so much of the manga are just dumb for the sake of making people worse than the title character.

Lets look at Goblin Slayer would have you believe that the fighter was stupid for bringing a weapon like that into a cave to fight goblins. While that may be somewhat true, looking at it the size of the weapon isn't the problem. The problem is that a human bean standing in an enclosed space SOMEHOW FORGET THAT THERE WAS A WALL A FOOT TO HIS RIGHT.

That sword is perfectly usable in that cave as a deadly weapon. Just not to swing with horizontally like a retard swinging a baseball bat. Just adjust your grip and thrust with it.

Goblin Slayer story has as many or even more sense than Batman.

So don't get your quests from fucking farmers. You should NEVER be getting your rewards from fucking farmers.

Those farmers work serve a lord. A lord who loses income every time goblins attack his farmers. A lord who, if there is a goblin nest nearby and this shit has been happening for a while, is probably sick of this shit and willing to pay money to make the problem go away.

Fuck, said lord probably has knights and shit of his own anyway, and its not like goblins are so strong that they NEED dedicated powerful adventurers to deal with them. Goblin nests are a problem that is much, much better solved by a hundred standard men at arms going in to clear the place out rather than a ragtag band of 4-5 assorted 'experts' who can be easily overwhelmed by numbers.

It had rape because it is a seinen, if you don't add rape to a seinen better just write a shonen.

GS village story is from Goblin Slayer Year One, which shows how GS started in the goblin slaying business, so chapter 1 is obviously the village attack.

There is currently a demon king war happening and everyones armies are occupied. Noone really cares about backwater villages in borderlands

Why pay soldiers or knights to kill goblins when low level adventurers are way cheaper? Soldier's and knight's time is better spent killing demon lords and dragons, their world was in high danger not long ago. Their system have a few casualities but it works pretty well. It'll get better now that the demon lords are already defeated.

>doesn't understand the concept of n00b

See, I think this is where you have to stop looking solely at Goblin Slayer and see that most premade RPG settings are guilty of this, too.
Most settings where you can be an "adventurer" start of with you fighting kobolds/goblins/rats although, as you pointed out, they should already be dealt with in some form or other
I think that's why people keep defending GS - they either know the nonsensical structure of the world throught other settings or value it for "pointing out" that nonsense

Going by the reviews of the light novel she does. It turns into side stories about the demon/human war and at some point the spider-girl shows up there.

N00b is forgetting your leg armor because you splurged your starting golf on a big sword. Not realizing youre going to smash your sword against a goddamn wall? That kid was too dumb to wield anything sharper than a pair of safety scissors.

Different user, but that's fucking retarded. If it's a handful of villages then yeah, sure, the nobles in charge of these territories might not care. But the manga talks about the goblin problem as if it's a borderline epidemic, where goblins are such a common problem that a guy specifically dedicated himself to handling goblin jobs, and most brand new adventurers end up taking a goblin job at some point. Hell, the manga even mentions that goblins breed like rabbits, meaning they spread around quickly.

At that point, enough farms should be getting hit that it's not just going to threaten a local noble's bottom line; When combined with the resources they have to be sending to contribute to the demon war, it should be leaving them at risk of starvation. You can ignore a handful of villages getting raided by goblins, but when it becomes such a problem that goblin jobs are common enough to toss at nearly every new group of plucky adventurers that ask for a job, you have a fucking problem that needs to be addressed before you fucking starve to death or are potentially overrun. Armies don't march on empty stomach, if food production is fucked then the army is fucked too.

This is obvious shit that any noble should probably know. If nothing else, they should know that goblins breed fast and armies need food to not starve, so they should be hiring people to deal with a goblin nest as soon as they're aware of one in their area. But the manga assumes that the world's leaders all having tunnel vision and will willingly throw their armies at an outside threat while internal threats weaken them enough that logically they'd have trouble fighting the demons they have tunnel vision over. It assumes that the people in charge are fucking dumb and assumes you're either too dumb to stop and think about it, or too engaged by the "gripping" storytelling to want to question it. It gives itself too much credit and the reader not enough credit.

I like it.

Handsome Helck was a mistake.

He was a kid who killed one or two goblins when they tried to steal a pig. He thought he'd be some great hero and took bunch of noobs and went without prepairing the group. And got rekt badly.

>he should have only lunged like he was playing Dark Souls
t. dead adventurer

Also, peasants who plea for help but receive none from their leaders have a nasty habit of rebelling, which is just another reason the local nobles -should- give a shit but the manga doesn't acknowledge because it's stupid and it assumes you are too. And you might argue "But they're fighting demons, no peasants would rebel while the kingdom's fighting a bigger threat like that!" Starving peasants do. Peasants who regularly lose people to goblin raids do. Demons are something these people never really have to deal with, goblins are. If you're arguing that nobles don't give a shit about a group of farmers, then said farmers shouldn't really give a shit about foreign wars that have nothing to do with them either.

All he had to do was not smack the sword against the wall like a baseball bat. It's pretty standard practice for arming swords, too. The gladius (the OG roman sidearm) was even intended for stabbing use in formation.

Have you actually went to a cave or held a sword in your hands user?
Because if you did you would not be saying that.

Caves IRL do not conform to rpg standarts. That sits on a flat terrain with straight passageways.
They have tunnels moving upwards, downwards. Some big , some so small you have to squeeze through it.

It is pretty idiotic to bring a longsword there, even if it is not that long.
Any blade longer than a spatha is useless. Even than it is better to have a mace at your hand.

You watch your mouth.

>Have you actually went to a cave or held a sword in your hands user?
Have you?
Weirdo

its a disjointed mess that devolved into its authors attempt at hentai

Overlord Is the best one and the only one worth reading.

She does. I liked it better when she didn't though, even as much as I like MCs rapidly becoming stronger from a weak starting point.

Her interactions with the human world is pretty good though, especially with those who actually try and learn about her.

>the manga doesn't acknowledge because it's stupid and it assumes you are too
Well hello there

>he doesn't play Mazes and Monsters IRL

>posts Helck before he became bishounen
He should've stayed as manga He-Man.

Yes to both

The gladius is actually shorter than a longsword. And that doesn't change that a longsword, while can be used to lunge, obviously it's strenght lies in slashing.

But even if he somehow only lunged and stabbed, that doesn't change it's still a bad weapon to bring to a short corridor and he would do better with a shorter blade or an actual lunging weapon.

that was actually foreshadowed a at least one story arc ago, when they were backtracking to the empire

>implying Helck doesn't look better than ever
No homo though

Night Crawlers is great in a cave.

The page I posted is from early in the manga, when he still was comedy He-man.

This show was pretty comfy.
Also, dragon best girl.

Youjo senki, it's like a player got magical realm'd and decided to play it straight.

Reminds me I need to see if Drifters stayed good, I love world mixing settings.

Fuck that, it's one of the worst Isekais I've seen. I'd rather read the one were one guy gets turned into an Onsen

...
